Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Just A Little Bit Different ❯ Chapter 1

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Cossette had always been a timid, quiet child. This didn't change even after she turned nineteen. Why couldn't she be like her twin sister, Reila? Reila was always flamboyant and out of control with excitement. Then again, why did it really matter? Reila was born the way she was, and she (Cossette) was born to be the twin that enjoyed books and music, not partying and boys.

It was 3:04 in the afternoon on a Sunday. If anyone was to look for her, Cossette could always be found in the park near their quiet neighborhood in Kyoto, Japan. This was her place of peace away from her siblings and parents. She sat on a swing. Pushing backward, she started to swing. Closing crimson eyes, she started to pump her legs, gaining speed and height. There he stood before her, flashing her his signature smile. "Cossette!" someone called, but she ignored it. "COSSETTE!" that same someone called louder. A pressure in her lower back alerted her back to reality. At the peak of her swing, she flew from the seat, landing awkwardly on the ground, "Cossette?" the person raced to help her off the ground. "Cossette, I am sooo sorry!" Cossette stood, wiping the dust from her jeans and gave the person a peeved look. "I thought you'd realize I was behind you, when I pushed you." they apologized, "It's fine, Reila." she muttered quietly. "Did you come down here to daydream again, Sis?" Reila questioned, grinning. "So what?" Cossette countered. "Was it about-mmmmph!" before Reila could finish her sentence, Cossette slapped a hand over her twin's mouth. "SHHHH!" Cossette placed a finger to her lips and gave Reila a mean look. "Yoochang's sister is coming," Cossette stated in English. Reila's emerald eyes widened, mouthing an 'oh'. "She really bothers me, Rei." Cossette continued, tugging lightly on Reila's arm.

"Hi, guys!" the offending girl yelled, running up. "What are you two doing?" she asked, bouncing from foot to foot. "Nothing really, Yuki." Cossette stated, forcing a smile. "Did you guys read online about SHINee's Japanese debut!?" Yuki squealed, grinning broadly. "Yes, but we have to head in." Reila said, pulling Cossette with her. "Oh.... well.... bye..." Yuki sighed as the twins left.

"That girl is creepy..." Reila sighed in English, as they entered the house. "Told you!" Cossette replied heading upstairs. "Who's creepy?" their mother, Ophiliah, asked in English- the main language they spoke at home- from the stairs with her arms crossed. "No one!" Cossette called back, looking up at her mother. Ophiliah raised an eyebrow. "Cossette Sylas." "It's that Yuki girl, Yoochang's sister. I let her listen to one of my songs, and she went and turned it into something horrible. She only knows the one SHINee song "A.MI.GO." and she thinks she is their biggest fan." Ophiliah nodded. "Ah, well have you tried talking to the girl?" "No." "I say you should try to talk to her." "Fine.... I will tomorrow, when I go over to Yoochang's house." Cossette hugged her mother and pushed past, going into her room to do homework for her Korean class.

The next day, Cossette knocked on Yoochang's door. His mother answered, smiling, "Oh! Cossette! How are you?" his mother asked in Korean. "I am doing well, Mrs. Choi." she smiled, replying back in Korean. "Come in, come in! Yoochang is in his room." Mrs. Choi said, moving to the side.

Cossette walked down the hall of the one story brick house, heading toward Yoochang's room. "Yoochang?" she questioned, walking into his room. "NOONA!" he yelped, rushing over and hugging her tightly. "Hi to you too." she breathed out in Korean like she always did when she was at his house. "How's my favorite noona?" he grinned, flopping on his bed. Cossette flopped on the bed next to him, 'Gotcha Force' was paused on the TV. "SHINee's coming to Japan." Cossette smiled. "I know, and I wish I was going, but I don't have any money." Yoochang sighed, covering his head with a pillow. Cossette blew a strand of white hair from her face, "I want to be able to see Onew live." she whined, "And I want to see Jonghyun live!" Yoochang pouted.

He sat up, "Noona, how many songs do you have on your iPod now?" he asked picking up his iPod from his desk. "I have.... thirteen-hundred." she stated, pulling her own iPod from her pocket. "Yaaah! I only have nine-hundred!" he groaned. "Do you want me to make you a list?" Cossette questioned. "Yes." he replied, sitting at his desk. "Do you want me to include Japanese artists too?" "Yes, please." "Okay, here. Write these down: SS501, Koda Kumi, SOULHEAD, KAT-TUN, Golf-Mike, Arashi, Rain, SE7EN, DNT, Ayumi Hamasaki, Alan, BUONO!, An Cafe." she said, scrolling down the list of artists on her iPod. "EWWWW! I don't like Rain, though!" he stated shaking his head. Cossette gave him a look, "Fine, how about f(x) instead?" "That will work, I really like them."

"Have you and your sister's put up any new videos?" Yoochang asked, as Cossette sat on the edge of his bed, "Nope, we only have "It's You", "Gee", "Replay", and "Mirotic". I want to do "Crazily Beautiful" by DNT and "U R Man" by SS501." "Why haven't you done those?" "Well..." Cossette rubbed the back of her neck, "The boys next door were making fun of Earien. You know cause she's a little bigger than me and Reila. Mama went over and scared the living hell out of them. Earien is self conscious of herself now..." Yoochang blinked, "Just because Earien isn't fifty-nine kg's doesn't mean she's fat!" he nearly yelled, eyes narrowed. "Calm down, Yoochang. We will just dance in the back yard from now on. Want to be our camera man?" "Okay!" Cossette smiled at him. "Thank you. Sammy-mama was our camera woman before, but she's been really busy with work lately. "

Cossette slid off of the bed, "Hey, is your sister here?" "Mhm, she's in her room." "Okay, I'll be right back, I need to go talk to her." Yoochang blinked, but stayed silent as Cossette left the room.

"Yuki?" Cossette walked into her room, "What do you want?" Yuki sounded upset. "I wanted to talk." "When did you learn to speak Korean so well?" Yuki questioned, walking over to shut her door; Yuki's eyes were bloodshot from crying it seemed. "I am in my fourth year of Korean at school. I took it back in high school as well. Also one of my mom's is Korean." Yuki mouthed an 'oh' as she stood with her head down. "Yuki, I want to say sorry for being so distant with you. I mean you're a sweet girl, but when it comes to k-pop, I want you to like it, but for the right reasons, listen to more bands. Find a band that you like, I want you to like SHINee because of their talent, not because they are my favorite band. Try 2NE1, Big Bang, Tohoshinki, Super Junior, 4Minute and Clazziquai. Even try the TRAX." Yuki nodded, "Alright Unnie. I just wanted you to like me because I want to hang out with older people, and you and Reila are so cool..." "Well.... how about this Friday, you come over to my house and I'll get you properly introduced to k-pop?" "OKAY!" Yuki squealed hopping in place. "Okay." Cossette smiled as she left Yuki's room.

"Yoochang! Come on!" Cossette called, "Where are we going?" He asked, putting his sneakers on. "We are going to a karaoke bar!" "YES! We haven't done that in a long time, Noona!"

When they reached the karaoke bar, Yoochang practically dragged her inside. Cossette remembered why she didn't come here often; she wasn't the best singer in the world. Yoochang on the other hand had some chorus under his belt from junior high. She sighed as Yoochang let go of her arm.

They split the payment for two hours and entered a room. The room was a pretty decent size with hardwood floors. One wall sported a flat screen TV that took up a majority of the wall, under it was the karaoke machine. Yoochang sat down on the plush black leather couch that was pushed against the grey painted wall adjacent of the TV. Cossette heaved a sigh, looking back at Yoochang. "Go on, Noona, pick a song!" he grinned, leaning back against the couch with arms crossed across his chest. "Fine." she muttered, looking through a list of Japanese artists, "What about the GazettE's "Filth In The Beauty"?" she looked back at Yoochang for an answer. "Noona, I know what song you really want to sing." Yoochang responded, walking toward the selection of songs. Tohoshinki's "Love In The Ice" came on the screen. "I know it's your 'national anthem' as your mom puts it." he said making air quotes, sitting back down. Cossette blushed lightly, watching the lyrics pop onto the screen. She opened her mouth and started to sing along with the lyrics. Every once and a while she'd glance around the room, thankful it was only Yoochang with her. Singing wasn't at the top of her list of 'Special Abilities' so she was somewhat self conscious.

The song ended and Cossette quickly shoved the mic at Yoochang. "Here... your turn." she mumbled sitting down. "Uh... okay, let me see. What do I want to sing?" he muttered to himself walking over to the machine. "Hmm.... how about...AHA!" he picked a song. "f(x)'s "Lachata!" he piped, smiling. Cossette smiled, "Show me the dance you've been bragging about!" she called. "YAY!" he cheered. The song started and he began to dance around. How that boy could be so hyped up, she had no idea. He turned around with a grin on his face. "Noooooona!" he called, pulling her to her feet. "Dance with me!" he chirped, before returning to singing his song. Cossette followed his every move as well as she could; f(x) wasn't her top band, so she'd never learned any of their dances. "I'll let you go easy, Noona. I want you to sing "Mirotic"." Cossette let out a sigh. She looked at Yoochang who started to dance as soon as Cossette started to sing. By the end of the night, Cossette loosened up and was dancing around the room with Yoochang.

Their two hours were up "Hey, Yoochang, want to stay at my house tonight?" Cossette asked as they walked back to her house. He looked over at her and laughed, "Hell yea! Let me call my mom!" Cossette started to daydream again while Yoochang talked with his mom. She smiled, closing her eyes. Yes, he was there with his hand stretched out for her to grab. She took his hand, and was suddenly pulled into his arms. He began whispering sweet nothings in her ear. "NOONA!" Yoochang nearly screamed, while poking her face. "Stop daydreaming or I'll look at you with generalized feelings!" Cossette didn't even budge. How she could stare off into space and keep walking without running into anything was beyond him. "COSSETTE!" he yelled. He only called her by her first name when well....something like this came up. Yoochang huffed and tugged her harshly. "NOONA!" he cried, Cossette yelped, jumping back; unfortunately she tripped and fell into a street sign. "Sorry, Yoochang." she mumbled, rubbing the sore spot on her hip. "MHM. You have to stop thinking about Onew like that." he said while grinning. Her face lit up. "SHUT UP CHOI YOOCHANG!" she yelped. Yoochang burst out laughing. "Well I just wanted to tell you my mom said it was fine. I just have to grab some clothes and all that." he stated, grabbing onto Cossette's hand.

They reached her house at last, "Mom!" Cossette called from the living room to the upstairs when after they dropped their things. Reila gave Yoochang a lazy wave from the couch while flipping through channels. "Yes dear?" came two calls from upstairs. "Yoochang is spending the night!" "Okay!" came the reply.

Both of them made it up to her room. "Should we call Tae?" Yoochang asked, setting his things on the floor. Cossette's eyes lit up. "I am sure he's stuck at his house with nothing else to do!" she smiled, sitting on her bed. "Do it!" he grinned, bouncing on her bed. "Okay, okay." Cossette brought up her contacts list and hit "Taemin". After a few rings a voice picked up, "Hello?" the person sounded tired, "Hey, Tae... want to come over?" Cossette questioned, looking to Yoochang who was now laying on her bed. "Sure." he replied. There was a grunt, Tae must have been sitting up on his bed. "Yoochang is over here." HI TAE!" Yoochang called from the bed. "Hi, Yoochang. Ozzy, I'll be over in a bit." Tae stated, as Cossette smiled, "Okay." she replied, hanging up.
