Death Note - Description/Synopsis
Shinigami own notebooks called “Death Notes” which are used as killing devices. Whoever’s name they write down in a death note will die within 40 seconds. Shinigami Ryuku accidentally dropped his Death Note in the human world where it’s found by honor high school student Raito. With the death note actually having directions in it for its use, Raito discovers he now has the power to discreetly kill people, and with this new power he plans to change the world in his ideal world by killing off criminals. Eventually the governments of the countries around the world notice the unusual amounts of deaths of their criminals, and figure out someone is behind them, but they have no way of discovering it themselves. That’s when they hire L, a master detective, to find out who is behind the murders.

Amazing
When I first heard the story line of "Death Note," I laughed. I thought it sounded silly. However, when one of my close friends forced me to watch it, I feel in love with it instantly.

Death Note is an anime worth exploring
I really enjoyed this anime. It is 37 episodes long and the anime is mainly a game of cat and mouse between L and Light (some spell it is Raito because of the japanese pronounciation, but its Light), where no one knows who can be trusted. I did not find it boring, it's more a battle of wits and intellect than one of senseless, brute violence. It has its share of gore, however, do not be fooled. It tends to be a bit wordy, so i assume thats where the boredom stems, however I think if you can get passed that, it is definitely an interesting story worth exploring.

Edge-Of-Your-Seat
When I first heard about the anime Death Note, it was the number one voted supernatural anime (while Yu Yu Hakusho, another favorite of mine, was voted number 3) on Anime TV, a podcast that reviews anime and manga. When it aired on Adult Swim.com, I just had to watch. I was wierded out at first, but then began watching again, because I was so enthralled. The charachter are so entriguing, with their own level of insurpassable intellect. The game of cat and mouse is suspenseful, as you don't know what's gonna happen next, and can't wait to see the next episode as soon as one is done...if you are a fan of suspense, horror anime and phsycological thrillers, this anime is for you.

Not your average killing spree...
Death Note. The title enthralled me as I scanned all the results of "recent anime" I had punched in to Google. The characters are original and entertaining and thankfully, there is not much pointless dialogue that many animes today seem to have. All the episodes I've seen so far (I think it would be about 21) have been relevant to the story, unlike many other series which have episodes in between containing little or no relevance to the story itself.

The plot died down after the first ten episodes but me being the anime junky I am continued to watch it and found that it was lacking a lot, despite its potential. The episodes became tedious and boring to watch and I guess that all the flare I'd seen in the first few episodes had evaporated. However, for those of you who enjoy suspense and quick and witty dialogue, Death Note is definitely for you and whether you see it on Adult Swim or on some online provider makes no difference...

Death Note is twisted............but i can't stop watching.
Death Note is twisted, starting with the shinigami who dropped the notebook in the first place *they said his name was Ryuk on adultswim* and the Japanese honer student who finds the book *they said his name was Light on adultswim so i'm confused* who begins killing people in the first place. and all because they were.........BORED!!! i was in tottal shock the whole time, and could only manage to mutter, "what the," *cough cough*, "heck?!!!" *coughcoughcough* i think the anime is totally twisted warped and creepy. but that's exactly how i like my anime, MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *cough couGH COUGH COUGH* *GASP* *COUGH COUGH COUGH* *gasps* hh-a.

opposite opinions
I don't completely agree with the other people on this anime/manga series. Though intelligent I find it to be bland and dry. It didn't catch my interest for very long. I originally began reading the manga and lost interest in it rather soon after viewing the anime. I don't know what about it makes it boring for me but it's boring. It has a never ending set of rules for the deathnote itself and I find Light's shikigami to be annoying and stupid almost as much as I find Misa to be irritating, especially in the anime. You say that you've never seen anything this gripping and creative and intelligent, then you haven't seen anything yet or seem to be missing the point of a lot of anime and manga. Ghost in the Shell (Movie and t.v. series) is a very intelligent and psychological. And Battle Royale is the most intelligent book and manga I've ever read (That should be an anime!).

THough I don't agree with others, I still find it to be intelligent and fresh, it just doesn't catch my interest like other things do...

Best manga and Anime ever
I was truely captivated by this Anime, so much so I went out and read the entire manga series. The manga is pretty much the exact same. I would now name this as the best anime/manga I've ever seen, and I've seen many. You never lose interest at any point in the story! it's always a great read...

Everything's complex
I have never came across a manga that gripped my mind so intensely as this one. It involves a notebook that enables a human or shinigami (God of Death) kill a person by writing a person's name down. There are many other factors that needs to be counted into the notebook. The 'hero' Raito/Light is a very complex character that leaves me wondering if I should be rooting for him or not. The villians are that way too, should I be rooting for L or not? What am I to think? A must read if you like reading complex plots within plots, complex characters and psychological thinking of the minds.
