Title: Solace [ Miscellaneous :: Romance ] By: Sionnac
Uploaded On: Dec 2 13:12:03 2004
Description: Wow. This one was a royal pain from the first minute on. Scanned sketch colored in Photoshop 6. Still not sure I'm happy with the background but I finally figured out a good way to do hair.

Nice work. my main concern is the characters in the image have two drasticly different sized heads. I know her's would be smaller, but it appears to small in compairson to the man's. The other is her hand. I think others mentioned the size, but I will anyway. The rule of thumb (yes a pun) is that if you take your own hand and place the bottom of the palm to the bottom of your chin you will see the hand is about 3/4 the length of your head. your fingertips end slightly above your eye brows. The hair is great as is the way you showed the folds and creases in the jeans. Nice work, keep on using photo shop and improving.~Fanilia

Nice work - the extra effort and "pain" you went through paid off. I noticed the small size of her hand first off, so I think that's the major concern there. The subtle background works fine on this one. Great work, you're advancing well. :D

I must agree that her head an dhand do seem small, but it is quite a lovely picture. The emotion in this picture is beautifully displayed. Great work. ~~Amostar~~

All line work and feature aspects look clean and crisp, indeed it's a lovely scene, backgrounds good enough and the colouring is vibrant and thoughtful. A really lovely picture. On the proportioning side, her head appears to be noticeably smaller then his, and so looks a little small compared to her own body size as well, best to take extra care when setting up initial dimensions, its easy to accidentally resize appendages to make them fit a scene or a position. (her hand also looks a bit small). The highlighting aspects are lovely and the hair and jeans are particularly noteworthy, however I've noticed a lot that when artists are really good at highlights and texturing they see to forget about major shadow lines, (or are not quite bold enough with them, as in this case) this is particularly noticeable with characters touching each other or objects, as no dominant shadows persist it makes the interaction look flat. Now I know you don't want to darken any of the good highlighting work, but things like that are critical to giving depth to a picture highlighting alone can not do it. Forgetting all that, it really is a sweet scene, and a good testimony to your growing skill.

Noice! This is an awesome picture. The characters are so expressive in face and body and the colors, especially in the jeans and skin, are brilliant. I also like the way you did the hair. All in all, a fantastic job.

Indeed you did make a breakthrough with this one! Wow, the hair looks so much cooler and the skin coloring is fantastic. Porportions are awesome, and I love their faces and their emotions as well. I can almost feel what they're feeling. And the cloths are awesome too. Excellent!
