Artist's Commentary In a wizard's workshop, a very special flower waits suspended in midair. With each drop of blood, the once crimson rose is one day closer to dying. The flower is inexorably linked to the wizard himself. He is cursed: when the flower dies, so does the mage. So he studies and waits, frantically searching for a cure to his curse. Sketched in Pencil, colored in photoshop. I played. I've always been intrigued by the linking of the rose and the beast from "Beauty and the Beast" -- but I always felt that the wilting petals was the easy way out. I liked the idea of the sap being blood. So I played with it. The basis of the rose itself is from one of my roses in my garden. I haven't played with layers and effects much before. I am actually happy with this, since I can't draw to save my life. Per one of my co-workers questions I changed the wall up and messed with the lighting a bit. She prefers it this way. There Lady M, I've submitted more than one piece. |
