Artist's Commentary A young woman, on the edge of a cliff which overlooks the beaches she used to walk along. She finds there is no way down; no way to return to them. The surf she used to play in gleefully now crashes against the rocks below. A cave gives off a woeful moan as the wind sweeps in and out, making things seem much drearier than they would otherwise. The forest behind her is one she's come through only to find herself here on the precipice. Hidden within the woods is a dark figure, one she is far too closely familiar with. She used to consider him a friend but knows all too well that he is nothing of the sort. Yet he continues to follow her, revealing himself at each bad turn in life. Mountains stand in the distance, a symbol of freedom which she feels she cannot reach. If only she would look up she would see that a path has been made clear for her. A vast meadow has opened allowing her to pass toward the waking sun. If only she would look up and see, then she would rise and continue her journey onward toward salvation. |
