Alice smiled. "I only wish that I was here all the time, with you."

"Maybe it is for the best that you're not always here," he sighed. "Because if you were I'd be spoiled."

She looked at him. "What is wrong with that?"

"Absolutely nothing."

Alice smiled big. "Then one day I will find a way to never leave here."

He smiled, trying to hide his sadness. "I hope that is true."

She brushed his cheek, seeing the hint of melancholy in him. "You do not seem pleased with that."

"I am your Hatter," he told her. "I belong to you. That it how it suppose to be." He shook his head slowly, his raven locks flowing down his face. "But Alice, she does not belong to the Hatter." She was not his to keep.

Her heart fell.
"That doesn't mean you can't keep me. Who says I don't belong to you? Who made such stupid rules?"

"You did," he told her. Before he could say more, the panting of the White Rabbit could be heard growing louder.

She didn't understand, but she didn't have time to question it. Quickly, she moved out from under the Hatter and grabbed her panties. After putting them on, she started straightening herself.

The Hatter sighed. Wiping off his pants, he pulled them back up and grabbed his hat. He should have thrown the watch farther.

Alice told herself not to forget the worlds of her Hatter. Later she would try and figure them out. He always did speak in such riddles.

The White Rabbit huffed and puffed as he neared them. He was clutching his watch for dear life. "Y-y-you-" He leaned against the table to catch his breath.

"I really wouldn't do that," the Hatter smirked.

The Rabbit paled and jumped back looking at his hand in disgust. "How could you! Alice is innocent!"

"And she still is," he told him. "More or less."

The Rabbit shook his head and pointed out where he had come from. "Come quick! You must see this!"

Alice blushed lightly at the table. She pushed the thought from her mind and followed the White Rabbit. "What did you find?"

The Rabbit took her hand and pulled her along until he reached the area where he had found his watch. He pointed at the large mess in front of him. "It's a cocoon! A huge one!"

The Hatter mumbled as a tree tried to snatch his hat. "Get your own!" He growled as he pushed through to where they were. "What on earth would a cocoon be doing here?"

Alice paled. Her chest felt tight. "Isn't it obvious?" she whispered and reached down to touch the broken cocoon. "It's the Caterpillar's...he's...a very big butterfly now..."

"Well, butterflies aren't scary," the Rabbit said, backing up to Alice's leg and holding onto it.

"Oooh, maybe he turned into a giant spider!" The Hatter said thoughtfully.

"S-spider!"

"Mr. Hatter!" Alice snapped. She picked up the White Rabbit. "Stop scaring him!" She stroked his hair and smiled. "Caterpillars turn into butterflies...but I don't think he will be so easy to kill now that he can fly." She started back to the tower. "Come on, let's get the White Queen."

The White Rabbit snuggled against her. Looking over her shoulder, he stuck his tongue out at the Hatter, he frowned and glared at him angrily.

"I doubt that someone as fat and old as him could fly," the Hatter sighed, as he placed his hands behind his head and began whistling.

Alice walked up to the tower door and pulled out her knife. She set the White Rabbit down again. "Stay close, ok? And don't run off unless I tell you to hide," she said to him. She looked back at the Hatter. "Let's do this." She opened the door and walked in. Instantly she was covered in tobacco smoke. Choking she waved her hands in front of her so she could see.

"Ah, Alice. How wonderful of you to come back. I had heard whispers in the trees and the wind that you were back." More tobacco smoke filled the air as the Caterpillar's rough yet whimsical voice echoed. As the smoke cleared, it was clear that the Caterpillar had gone through some changes. Despite his face being the same, his body was now slender and curved...a female's body with large beautiful wings.

As soon as the Hatter saw the Caterpillar he doubled over in laughter. "Nice boobs!"

The Caterpillar growled, smoke filling the room. "You are not welcome here, Hatter!"

The Hatter stuck out his tongue. "Well you're no fun!"

Alice's hand went to her head. Her thoughts were foggy, just like the smoke that surrounded her. It was hard to think, hard to remember why she was there. "Mr. Hatter....why...why are we here?" she asked. She looked at the Caterpillar through the smoke as she coughed. "Oh, my. You have changed, Mr. Caterpillar." His female face looked familiar...like someone she once knew...someone from the past or maybe the present...she wasn't sure.

"It should be Ms. Caterpillar now," the Hatter snorted.

"It's still Mr. more or less," the Caterpillar smirked, her wings spreading out to reveal its deadly colors. Golden spores filled the air as she took a step toward them. "Why Alice dear, you are here to see me. That is all."

"Alice, we're here to-" the Hatter stopped and began coughing as the spores entered his throat.

"Here to see you?" Alice asked as the smoke fogged up her mind. She could no longer see the Mad Hatter, only the Caterpillar. She smiled. "Oh! Yes! I have come to visit! It has been such a long time!" She started walking over to him.

The Caterpillar smiled as she watched the White Rabbit slide to the ground asleep while the Hatter gasped for air. Her wings wrapped around her like a cloak as she extended her hand for Alice to take. "Come, Alice. Maybe I will take you on a flight if you wish."

Alice held out her hand. "Oh, yes! That would be lovely! I do love the Wonderland skies!"

The Caterpillar smiled as more of her spores swarmed around Alice. "Then come my dear. We will have fun together."

Matthew rubbed his eyes. He kept telling himself that he needed to get contacts, but of course he knew that he never would. After dealing with the nurse, he started with his rounds, trying to push the thought of his encounter with Alice from his mind. While walking toward her corridor, he was stopped by the Director who had seemingly been looking for him due to the look on his face.

"What did you give that Alice girl?"

"Huh?"

"She's out like a light," the Director told him. "I went in to try and confirm your story about the twins and she's asleep."

Matthew shrugged. "She's probably just tired. I'll check on her when I finish with my other patients."

"Yes, well you do that," the Director said with a nod.

Alice stopped before placing her hand in the Caterpillar's. She placed her hand on her head once more. It was like her mind was battling for control. She blinked over and over as she tried to make sense of everything. "Where...where is Mr. Hatter?" she mumbled. She was never without him so why wasn't he here. She turned slowly and looked through the smoke. Slowly she stumbled as she walked, searching for the Hatter. Something tapped her foot and she reached down.

Her hands touched something warm and soft and she lifted it. The White Rabbit seemed lifeless in her arms as she cradled him and she knew something wasn't right. "What....what is going on?"

She held the rabbit close and began to search through the smoke again. She covered her mouth and nose with her hand while the other arm held the White Rabbit. Without the smoke for her to breathe in, Alice's head began to clear and she realized how much trouble she was really in. Finally, after stumbling in the fogginess, she found the Hatter.

Going to her knees, she laid the White Rabbit down and cupped the Hatter's face, noticing he couldn't breathe. "I will give you air," she whispered and placed her lips on his so she could blow clean air into his lungs.

"Alice. Alice. Alice." The Caterpillar walked up behind her, a syringe full of golden liquid in her delicate hands. "Sanity never suited you," she told her as she stabbed Alice in the back with the syringe.

Alice cried out and lunged forward. She crumbled on the Hatter and her eyes glazed over. Once more, her head fogged up and she couldn't think straight. With her body over The Mad Hatter's, she felt numb and helpless as well as confused and clouded. The walls seemed to close in on her and her breathing slowed, threatening to stop.

"You see my sweet, Alice. You belong to me." The Caterpillar cupped her face and made her look at her. Leaning in close, her lips pressed against hers as she exhaled into Alice's throat, filling her body with more of her spores. "In madness, we are together."

Alice's eyes widened as her lungs filled. Being so close to the Caterpillar, she now recognized the face even with her mind cloudy. It was the same face as her aunt's. The Caterpillar even smelt like her strong perfume. Alice's body felt like butter melting in the hot sun. Her arms were heavy and her head like a rock. Suddenly, she couldn't remember anything. Not even the reason why the Caterpillar's lips were pressed to hers. Her heart sped and she closed her eyes, trying to remember why she was there, what she was doing, and where her Hatter was while this creature kissed her.

The Caterpillar lifted her into her arms, smiling as she started to carry Alice away from the now unconscious, unmoving, and non-breathing form of the Mad Hatter. The Caterpillar carried her to a white room where she laid Alice down on the bed. Stroking Alice's hair, she smirked as she trailed kisses down her jaw line. "Alice, you will stay here with me. Do you understand?"

Alice stared off into nothingness. "Yes...I understand," she said in a mellow tone.

"Good," she smiled. "Because you're mine, Alice. We will stay here in the madness forever."

"Forever..." Alice whispered.

She just smiled and motioned to the wardrobe behind her. "Put on something nice," she said. "I have to tidy up your mess and then we will talk as we always do."

"Yes...." Alice said and walked to the wardrobe. She pulled out a white dress made of ruffles and lace. She put it on and tied the bow around her back. She looked in the mirror and for a moment, she was even more confused. The person that stared back at her in the mirror was the ten year old version of herself.

The Caterpillar froze when she reached the bottom step and looked around. The Hatter and Rabbit were nowhere to be found. "Cat!" she yelled, her voice echoing through the tower.

A few seconds later his fanged grin appeared. "You beckoned on curvy, winged, beauty?"

The Caterpillar rolled her eyes. "I'm still a male Cat, more or less. Get over it. Where are the Hatter and the Rabbit?"

"They're here. There. Everywhere," he replied calmly.

Spores started to cloud around him, and an invisible finger seemed to wave them away. "No. No. No! You know as well as I that your tricks don't work on me."

"The Hatter is dead. I want his body."

"I'm sure you do. He's well endowed, but while Alice is alive the Hatter cannot die." His eyes appeared, only to add to his mischievous appearance.

Alice reached out to touch her reflection, the one of the younger her. Before she could, the ten year old Alice laughed. And Alice pulled back.

Ten year old Alice fixed the headband on her head and smiled. "Alice, you have to remember. Remember the Hatter? Remember the White Rabbit?" she sang.

Alice shook her head and her hand went to her temple as she tried to focus. "I...I don't know..."

Ten year old Alice tapped on the mirror. "He was your first kiss. And you have always adored him...we have always loved him. How could you forget?" She watched at the older Alice stared at her. "Our very first adventure here was one we promised never to forget. What about the promises you made to the Mad Hatter? Always to remember...never to forget."

"Never...to forget..." Alice mumbled to herself.

The younger Alice pointed to her hand and the older Alice looked down. There was the knife. "You know what you must do. Not just for the Hatter....but for yourself."
