Once the Red Queen was ash, the Cat did something he had wanted to do for quite some time. Dropping his pants, he proceeded to pee on the Queen's remains. "Ah," he said with a content smile on his face. Once he had finished, he fixed himself back and looked back at Alice. "In the end, you came through for Wonderland." The tiny bits of fire were disappearing. The world was shifting. Even he could feel the changes. He shuddered as his fury tail and ears took on a brighter shade of purple and his eyes shined brightly. "It feels as if I'm stepping out of a daze."

Alice looked at the White Queen. She waved her hand and the Hatter and the White Rabbit appeared. Alice began to cry. "You're choice, Alice?"

She looked around. Her hand went over her heart. "I have someone who needs me...in the other world..."

The White Queen nodded. Another wave of her hand and the two ghosts became whole. "Make your goodbyes fast...I can't hold the world for too long."

Alice nodded.

"Oh! Alice! Is this really goodbye?" The White Rabbit jumped into Alice's arms, hugging her as tears stained his eyes. His royal blue coat and pants were fixed, and his golden pocket watch hung from his waist as he snuggled against her.

The Hatter fumbled with his hat, staring at the ground while Alice held the rabbit. What was he to say with these last seconds he had?

Alice hugged him tightly. "I will miss you all so," she said and kissed him the put him down. She hugged the Cat. "Even you."

He snickered as he hugged her. "Yeah, well I might miss you if you're lucky."

When they pulled away, the Hatter stepped forward. "A Hatter's job is to be happy," he whispered. "This Hatter's job is to protect Alice. Now, at this moment I can do neither. Though this entire world rejoices I can not find a single thing to smile about."

Alice frowned. Her hand went to his cheek. "I will miss you most of all, my Hatter. I will always carry a piece of you in my heart."

"Though I knew that you could never be mine; my dreams were filled with thoughts of you," he whispered. Leaning down, he pressed his lips sweetly to hers. "With that last stolen kiss....I will wish you a very happy un-birthday." He swallowed hard as he turned his back to her, his hand quickly wiping his eyes.

"I will always love you...I will always long for you. One day...I hope to see you again," she whispered. The White Queen walked to her and placed her hand on her shoulder.

"It's time..."

Alice nodded. The world around her began to fade and she cried harder. "It's not fair!" she cried out and Wonderland was gone.

"Life is seldom fair...my Alice," the Hatter whispered above the flames which were consuming the area around her.

Alice coughed. She looked up as the fire danced around her. The Hatter stood above her, his hand extended. "It's time, Alice," he said softly.

She reached up and took his hand and he helped her stand. The White Rabbit smiled at her. "Hurry! You'll be late!" he said and pointed down the hall.

"He's not far, Alice. He needs you," Mr. Cat told her.

"Go," the Hatter whispered. Looking at them she hurried.

Her body ached. She was bleeding under her gown and her chest was tight from the smoke, but she ran. The White Rabbit showed her the way. In his office was Matthew. As soon as she saw him, her friends disappeared.

"Goodbye."

Matthew was unconscious, slumped against his desk with a fallen beam pinning him to the ground. It was hard to tell through the smoke, but it didn't appear that he was breathing.

Alice moved to him quickly, coughing and struggling. She pushed at the beam until he was free. Slowly, she laid him on the ground. "Matthew?" she whispered. She didn't know what to do. She had never been in something like this and she didn't know the first thing about CPR.

Matthew didn't move. The steady rise and fall of his chest was absent, the only reason his body was warm was due to the flames which were surrounding them.

"Alice," the Hatter whispered. "Allow me this...one last stolen kiss."

A wind began to pick up around the room, gently brushing against Alice's lips before the flames seemed to dance, being pushed back and smothered by the icy wind. It wasn't until the flames in the room died down that voices could be heard.

"I think I hear something!" Brian yelled through his mask. Pushing forward through the flames. Despite the raging inferno, he seemed to find his way through the place easy enough. When he finally found Alice and Matthew, he was in disbelief that they were still alive...sort of.

Kicking something out of the way, he quickly pulled off his mask and leaned over Matthew. Pressing his lips to his, he began to push air into Matthew's lips, slowly filling his lungs with air. "Come on," he said, in between breaths.

Alice looked over at Brian, her eyes falling on what he kicked. As Brian tried to breathe life in Matthew, she reached over and pulled a top hat from some of the ash. There was no mistake that it was the Hatter's. She hugged it close to her as she cried. Not only had she lost her Hatter...she was losing her Matthew.

Someone came up behind her and put a mask over her. "It's ok, honey. Breathe," the man said. And that's all Alice could do...breathe. The mask help cleared her throat, but she pulled away often to cough. "We have to get her out of here. She's bleeding," he said and lifted her.

"No! I can't leave him! No!" she kicked and screamed. She looked down at Matthew as she clung to the top hat for dear life. Ripping the mask off her she begged. "Matthew please! Please breathe! Think of Alison!"

Brian pulled back as Matthew began to cough. He quickly put his mask onto Matthew and nodded to the others. "Let's move. This place is going up in flames," he ordered. The other firemen nodded and started back with Alice and Matthew in tow.

Alice looked over the man's shoulder to see Matthew being thrown over Brian's shoulder. She looked at the top hat as the man told her to put the mask back on. "He...saved us..." she said.

"That's his job. He's a fireman," the man said.

Of course he wouldn't know what she was talking about. How could he? The top hat was all she had left of the Hatter and now...she could finally prove to Matthew that Wonderland is real.

Matthew awoke several hours later in a hospital. He was hooked up to a breathing machine with IV's dripping God only knows what into him. Despite parts of his flesh being slightly singed and his throat hurting, he was relatively unscathed from his adventure. Blinking, he looked around only to be attacked by Sammy.

"You stupid, stupid, idiot!" he said through tears. "Don't you ever scare me like that!"

Alice was in another room, handcuffed to the bed. Her aunt was talking to the cops. They had taken her child away from her and were planning on going to Sammy for questioning. She hadn't seem Matthew since the hospital put two and two together and found out who Alice was. Seconds later, her aunt walked in, slamming the door behind her. Alice sat up, pulling on the cuffs.

"Where's Alison!" she demanded.

"I don't know what you are talking about you little slut!" Alice's jaw dropped. "That child isn't yours. She is going to that doctor if he somehow manages to get himself out of trouble for raping you."

"He didn't rape me and that's my child!"

"Yes, well, we are going to tell the court that you were raped and that child is unwanted by you. Do you honestly think they would let a crazy person have a child and keep it?" she laughed. Alice's heart fell. "You are being sent to New York this time and put in the most expensive, most high security place I can fucking find!"

"You can't!"

"Don't tell me what I can and cannot do!"

"But I'm nineteen now! I'm an adult!"

"Not when you are clinically insane. All your rights are mine."

"Where's Alice?" Matthew asked, trying to regain his bearings.

"She's in another room," Sammy said slowly. "Her aunt is here...as are the police."

Matthew's eyes widened, his hand flexing menacingly as he heard this. "And Alison?"

"In police custody..."

Alice screamed and kept screaming. She didn't care about the pain in her throat or the warnings from the nurses. She pulled hard on the hand cuffs while she screamed, cutting into her wrist. "I want Alison! Let me out!"

"What's going on?"

"The police are searching through the...remains of the corpses," Sammy told him. "When they're through they'll take you to prison."

Brian walked into Alice's room. He completely ignored her aunt as he walked over to Alice. "Calm down," he told her. "Alison is safe."

She looked at him, drowned in tears. "You have to get her out of here," she whispered. "I know you don't really like her, but if they take Matthew, she will go into an orphanage. Please...get her out of her," she begged.

He stroked her face soothingly, trying to comfort her. "I'll take care of her, I promise."

Alice grabbed the top hat on the bed side table. "Can you take this to Matthew..." she said softly. "I know I'll never see him again...but this is the proof that Wonderland is real. And...I want you to tell him to run..." She leaned over and hugged him. She was terrified. Her body shook because of it.

"Visiting hours are over!" her aunt spat. "Get out!"

"He's not a visitor. He's my boyfriend," Sammy said, wearing a doctor's coat as he walked over to Alice. "Are you okay sweetie?" As Brian moved back, he cupped Sammy's hand. Sammy smiled as he gently rubbed Alice's chained up wrist, slipping a tiny metal key into her hand. "Matthew is fine and worried about you."

Alice tried not to smile through her tears. "Thank you...doctor..." she said softly.

"Oh," her aunt said and smiled quickly. "I didn't know he was with you doctor. I should have asked." Her head snapped to Alice. "Alice, darling, I'm going to get something to eat. Would you like anything?"

"Off with your head..." she mumbled.

Her aunt shook her head, still looking innocent and sweet. "Poor thing. She is so far gone."

She left only moments later and Alice wasted no time. She unlocked herself from the bed and rubbed her wrist. "Alison?"

"I believe Matthew is handling the situation very...uh...delicately," Sammy told her, pulling her into a hug.

Brian opened the door to the hall and disappeared. A few seconds later he came back with a nurse's uniform. "Put this on."

Alice changed quickly and pulled her hair into a bun just like the other nurses. She grabbed the top hat. "He hasn't gone...crazy has he?" She winces as the stitches pulled at her lower half. She wasn't suppose to be moving. She tore herself up while searching for Matthew and they had to repair a lot.

"One man's crazy is another man's reality I'm afraid," Sammy said. He smiled as he stroked her cheek. "I know it hurts, but we need to get you out of here."

She nodded. "We have to get to Alison first," she said as they started out of the room.

"Not to be the bearer of bad news or anything," Brian said softly as they walked through the halls. "But has anyone thought of what we're going to do after we get out of here? We'll all be wanted by the cops."

"It is nice to be wanted...."

Alice followed the signs to the floor where the babies were kept. "You don't have to come, Brian. You don't even have to help. I just want Alison and I'll find my own way from there." She opened a door and instantly she could hear babies. Going to each bassinet, she looked for Alison. Finally, she found her. She frowned when she saw that Alison was hooked to a bunch of machines as if she was sick or something. Her tag was marked "Premature" but Alice ignored it. She pulled all the things off Alison, wrapped her in a blanket then pulled her close.
