Chapter One
Riku Steals Away
(For all those people out there who know what darling Zuko looks like, Good For You! Because I personally don't feel like wasting my time with a description. This fanfic takes off a very short time before Zuko's father gives him the scar/that I lurve, by the way/. You(as this is written in a "you" point of view) are Riku(without a last name...sorry, but it seems that noone has last names on the show anyway). Unfortunately, at the moment, you look like a boy(you are a girl, don't worry)your hair is cut short and its black. You're fourteen with smoky green eyes and light colored skin. Sorry people, but I(the writer) am short and in this FF you'll be short too! You're thin(not much to show girls, I apologize once again but it adds to the point) but spunky(did I really use that word?) and you have your own little sparkle of pwettyness.
Oh god, I'm such a dork! ^.^
~I no own Avatar, but I like to fiddle with the characters a bit!~
Let the Fanfic Begin!!!!!*cheering*
Amnesia, you think, is certainly not a pretty thing, but in your case you think it's pretty preferrable to being without a family and without a home. You live in the Fire Nation now and you know that you want nothing to do with it. You've heard stories, of course, about the foolish Prince whose father has currently banished from the Nation and, unusual for you, you pity Prince Zuko, for he really is a pretty good guy. You've met him three times and know his Uncle quite well, though you'd be lucky if Zuko remembered you at all.
You have heard that Zuko's leaving on a ship that night, rumors as usual, but you have something of an itch that tells you that the rumors are probably right. You're bloody sick of the palace, as you're living as one of the Fire Lord's servants and personally want nothing to do with them. So you make a decision, and this time-you've tried before-you would act before you could convince yourself otherwise. You are quite adept at what you simply like to call "kicking ass" when the time calls for it, so you run for the ship docks and whaddayaknow, Zuko's ship is starting up. Grinning slightly, you follow one of Zuko's men and trip him from behind.
You pull out a steak knife and press it to the guy's throat as he lays defenseless on the ground. "Cough up the suit, sailor boy!" You demand snidely. You let him get up and remove his armor. He drops it on the ground and readies a yell, but you kick him off the side of the dock. Snickering, you pu the knife back in your pocket and slide on the heavy armor. It's the most preposterous thing you've ever worn. It's heavy. It's smelly. And worst of all, it's itchy! (and how is armor itchy?)
You force yourself to walk upright and pull the face mask down. Then you make your way onto Zuko's ship. You steal a glance of the young Prince speaking to his Uncle and looking rather annoyed when you get onboard. You overhear him saying, "Uncle, this is taking too long! Tell the men to hurry up!"
The Uncle cheerfully replies, "But I'm not done with my tea!" You can't help but snicker when the Prince makes an odd growling noise and snags the closest soldier to give him orders. You suddenly realize that you have absolutely no idea where to go on this mass of metal. Becoming somewhat annoyed, you manage to dash-well, more like hobble-your way to a descending deck that looks like it might go into the lower decks.
This ship may have been the smallest at the docks, but it certainly is big! Its hallways are like a maze to you. You find yourself going in circles and ending up in the oddest places. You even come across what you think is Zuko's room once, but lose it as quickly as you found it. Finally, after hours of searching in that big heavy armor, you fall over. "That's it! I give up!" You huff with annoyance and lean your head against the wall.
You know you fell asleep sometime later. Then a rather annoyed voice wakes you from your slumber. "What are you doing here?" You hear the voice say.
Sighing, you look up and twitch uncertainly. Zuko is standing above you, with all his burnt glory. Your belly flutters oddly. You frown at its reaction. What did that mean? "Lost is it?" Zuko shrugs and offers a hand. You suddenly seem to recall that Zuko doesn't think you're a girl. You say what you think would be the appropriate thing. "I'm good!" It comes out a bit too loudly. He assumes that you're just embarrassed. You somehow manage to stand and then grin at him stupidly. Luckily you're too off in lala land to remember that you're still wearing the mask and he can't see your face.
"No worries." Zuko tells you, sheepishly. "You're only the second one lost in this ship."
You feel your heart sink. "No don't tell me. Not you too, sir!" You say astonished. How is it that the Prince can get lost in his own ship?
"This is my first time on the ship." Zuko shrugged. "I didn't exactly volunteer to ride in this rust bucket in to search for the Avatar." You once again feel sorry for him.
"Well, at least you have one chance of getting back." You try to help.
"I don't know." Zuko says. "What's your name, soldier?"
"Riku." You reply. He nods and tells you to call him Zuko. That leaves you feeling rather special. "Well, left or right?" You ask.
"Which way did you come from?" He wants to know.
"Left I believe."
"So did I. So let's go right?"
"Whatever works, I guess."
And so you and the Prince were off.
~kays, like I found this in my weird ass collection of old stuff and it's not too bad so i said what the hek and i'll post it~
