Chapter 5: Haunting Dreams
The next morning when Aya awoke, she was dizzy. Suddenly all of the past night’s events came crashing through her mind. Images of heated touches, the sounds of breathless voices. The seductive way she danced with Aki and how he touched her. Aya blushed profusely when the ocean of guilt and confusion came upon her in deafening waves. Why did she think of her brother that way? How could she do that with Yuuhi? How could she do that to Touya? The man she loved with all of her heart, she had betrayed. Yes, she loved Yuuhi too, but Touya was the one she wanted to spend her life with. Aya curled onto her bed not wanting to face the day, as small tears fell from her eyes at what she had done.
Downstairs Yuuhi was up and already trying to take his leave. Not wanting to see Aya yet, he made his way stealthily to Aki’s room. Knocking on the door, he could still hear his friend’s music being played low. Yuuhi hoped he wasn’t still passed out from the night before, but slowly the door opened slightly and a very rugged, bare chested Aki blinked his eyes a few times trying to focus on the person in front of him.
“Yeah?” Aki asked hoarsely.
“Hey, I am leaving, just wanted you to know. Tell Aya that I will talk to her later. You look rough man, go back to bed. No more mixed drinks for you eh?” Yuuhi told his friend with a false humor. Aki nodded and followed him downstairs. Saying their proper goodbyes, he closed the door, turning the lock. Suddenly he had to lean against the wall as scattered images flashed through his mind.
There was Aya, her body flush with his in a seductive dance. How she moved slowly and sensually against him, the warmth creeping into him slowly as his hand caressed her silken skin. His breath felt as though it was knocked from him. There standing in his mind’s image was Touya‘s face. Aki could feel the hatred pouring from him as he tried to make his way back upstairs into his room. He needed to sleep, to get rid of all of these pictures his mind had conjured up.
Finally scrambling into his room, he pushed the door closed and leaned back against it. Aki’s eyes widened at the sight in front of him. His room, was completely wrecked, bed sheets and clothes strewn everywhere. Yet what disturbed him most was there, upon the bed, was the shirt he had worn last night, covered in red. Gazing with fear elsewhere he saw handprints on his pristine white sheets, and upon the outside of his window. All the same dark red as his shirt. He turned and locked his door quickly, so that no one could intrude. Slowly on leaden legs he walked over and picked his shirt off the bed, it was still soaked it seemed, and stuck to his hands. Throwing it on the floor suddenly, he looked down and felt fear clutching his stomach. This was… was… blood. It was all over his hands now, the wetness dripping slowly from them onto the floor below. Aki felt his world spinning as he collapsed into a void of peace, or so he thought.
(Dream)
“What are you doing here Aki?” Touya grounded out when he opened his door so late in the night. He had been listening to the radio about to fall asleep when he heard the pounding. “Is Aya okay?” Leaning up against the door frame, Aki grinned maliciously. His eyes locked dead on with Touya’s.
“I am here, my friend… To ensure Aya will be happy, and the only way that will happen is for her to be mine.” He spoke calmly in a deeper voice as his eyes once blue became a dark purple.
Touya backed up suddenly at the change he saw and heard in Aki’s eyes and voice. He was staring death in the face tonight and he knew it. Aki made his way in, a knife in his hands as he lunged towards Touya.
A song came onto the radio in the background he heard once when with Aya as he felt Aki’s knife plunge into his open chest, tearing the flesh with hatred. As the man who called himself Mikage told him how Aya would be his, and he would be with her from now on. Aki was not this man although it looked like him. His love’s brother may not have cared for him, but was not the one forcing the strong life force from his body.
Where once was light
Now darkness falls
Where once was love
Love is no more
Don't say goodbye
Don't say I didn't try
These tears we cry
Are falling rain
For all the lies you told us
The hurt, the blame!
And we will weep to be so alone
We are lost
We can never go home
So in the end
I'll be what I will be
No loyal friend
Was ever there for me
Now we say goodbye
We say you didn't try
These tears you cry
Have come too late
Take back the lies
The hurt, the blame!
And you will weep
When you face the end alone
You are lost
You can never go home
You are lost
You can never go home
Touya felt tears in the back of his eyes as Mikage took the knife once more and slashed his face. Suddenly a painful moan tore from his throat as he felt the cold steel plunge into his heart, darkness slowly engulfing him as his life bled to the floor. Aya’s happy face flashed through his mind, her laughter, her fears, her touch. Touya suddenly did not think he could be defeated so easily, he was meant to be with Aya, he knew it. In his heart he knew he was to be with her. Yet how could anyone fight against such rage? Such madness?
“Aya….Ay…” Touya choked out as he felt the blood in his throat collecting.
“Shut the fuck up! You piece of shit! Die! She will be mine! Never yours, only mine!” Mikage withdrew the sharp blade and began in a torrent wave to stab it into his battered flesh over and over. Even though his eyes were now lifeless, he couldn’t stop, the hate had taken over him.
(End Dream)
Aki woke up screaming, and sweating. “Please God. Tell me…. I didn’t. I hated him, but God please tell me I didn’t take his life.” Aki brought his knees up to his chest and cried. All the things in the room proved he had done that horrible deed.
“Mikage!!!!!!!” Aki screamed. “What have you done?” Aki repeated again in a choked whisper. “What have you done?”
‘Only what was needed to make Aya ours. Don’t worry, she will never know what really happened. She will only get a letter along with the necklace she had given him, explaining he had to leave her. How he didn’t love her. And when her heart is broken, she will turn to us, and we will be there to show her what love and pleasure really is.’ Mikage spoke with reverence.
Aki stood on trembling legs and began manically getting rid of the evidence hiding his sin. Placing it within the far reaches of his mind, he would just block it out and it would go away as if he hadn’t done it. Yes, that was the best thing to do right now. Aki convinced himself and a slow smile appeared across his face as he realized Aya would soon be his.
After taking a quick shower, Aki tied the trash bag and carried it through the house to curb. No one would ever know the lengths he had went through for his sister but him. He raised his eyes up to his sister’s window wondering what she was doing.
Aya stepped out of the shower trying to convince herself nothing had changed. Except for the fact that she would not ever drink again unless Touya was there with her. After dressing she walked downstairs just as Aki came back in the front door. Damn he looked so fresh this morning and she still felt like hell. It just wasn’t fair! "Is Yuuhi gone Aki?" She asked as she walked towards him. Aki had a wonderous beaming smile on his face this morning.
Now that everything was done, so was the memory forgotten. Aki gave his sister a larger smile. "Yeah Yuuhi left a long time ago. What’s wrong? Do u have a hang over?" He came up and placed his arm around her shoulder steering her to the kitchen. "Let me make something for you that will help ok?" He let his hand caress her neck as he slowly removed it. “You sit down and I’ll make you a hangover special smoothie.”
Aya sat down blushing at the way nothing seemed to bother him. She could still feel the heat of his arm where it had been around her neck. She looked down at the counter hoping he wouldn’t notice her blush. "You know I can do it Aki if you don’t want to." She watched as he turned around and approached her coming to stand in front of where she sat. He laid his forehead against hers and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Aya, don’t you know I would do any thing for you?" Aya jerked back as the phone rang and quickly jumped up.
"I...I’ll get it" She turned and fled to the living room and grabbed the phone taking a deep breath. "Hello?"
Yuuhi pause for a moment his heart speeding up with hearing her voice. "Aya , how are you?" His voice was soft and hesitant when he heard her catch her breath through the phone. "Aya?"
Aya snapped out the trance, "Yuuhi I’m fine. Aki was just fixing me something to cure a hangover." She gave a quick nervous giggle. "I’m afraid I drank way too much last night." She again held her breath waiting to see what he would say. Her eyes straying to the kitchen and widening when she noticed Aki leaning there against the doorframe with a suspicious look on his face, holding her smoothie in his hand. Aya quickly pasted a smile on her face but then the smile faltered slightly when Yuuhi whispered into the phone.
"I’m sorry Aya." He paused then drawing on his courage he continued. "I think we both drank too much last night and we need to talk. I don’t want this to come between us Aya."
Aya’s hand shook as Aki brought the smoothie to her and in a light hearted voice so Yuuhi would get the message she smiled at Aki. "Thank you Aki."
She took a sip waiting to see if he would leave but he didn’t. She talked back into the phone to Yuuhi trying to act like everything was fine. "That would be great Yuuhi. Soon though I want to go see Touya. Later ok?"
Yuuhi could tell Aki was still beside her by the tone in her voice, "Okay I’ll be back over in about a hour Aya." and he hung up.
Aki watched his sister’s nervous movements and wondered if the it was Yuuhi or him that was making her nervous. "What did you two do after I went to bed last night Aya?" He tried to hide the jealousy in his voice but wasn’t sure it had worked.
Aya opened her mouth to tell him a lie when the doorbell rang. ‘Saved by the bell.’ She nearly flew to the door throwing it open and squinting into the bright sunlight.
"Delivery for a Miss Aya Mikage?“ The delivery boy stood there with a package and Aya smiled.
"That’s me! I’m Aya." She reached her hand out and took the pen to sign for it. Maybe Touya sent her a gift? She wondered when she saw the name of who it was from. She quickly shut the door and almost ran smack into Aki again.
"Whatcha got Aya?" He came behind her and leaned over her shoulder to look making Aya giggle.
"I don’t know." She grinned at him finally feeling better, "but I’m about to find out." and she walked to the kitchen followed closely by Aki. Setting it down on the counter quickly tearing the package open. Aya frowned when she lifted out a small box and opened it seeing the cross necklace she had given Touya. Then looking back into the box she withdrew a letter that came from the stationary she had given Touya as a gift. Opening the envelope she read the words silently.
Dear Aya,
I didn’t want to face you so I’m writing you a letter.
I’m sorry but I can't see you anymore. I know this
comes as a shock to you but we moved too fast and
I’m not ready. So, I am moving. Do not follow me you
will not find me. Don’t ever wait on me ok? Find someone
who can love you because I am not that person anymore.
I do not want to keep the necklace and am cutting all ties.
I want my freedom and am giving you yours but it was fun
while it lasted.
Touya
Aya collapsed onto the floor in tears, clutching the now crumpled letter in one hand and the necklace in the other. She didn’t understand, things were going so well between them. She felt like screaming when suddenly warm arms embraced her as she turned slightly to see the blue eyes of her brother. She pushed her face into his chest and cried harder and she felt her heart shatter into a thousand pieces. ‘Aki. You are always here when I need you, brother dear.’ She thought silently to herself as she heard his reassuring whispers that everything would be okay.
“I loved him Aki. You were right though. He just wanted to use me.” As Aya wiped the tears from her eyes, she gently placed a kiss on Aki’s cheek. “Thank you for being here. I am going to go to my room now. When Yuuhi comes, just tell him I don’t feel well enough to talk.”
