Chapter 8 “Evident Jealousy”

Yuuhi flipped his cell phone closed and returned it to his pocket. He wished he felt more at ease about enlisting the aid of the blonde man. But despite the good relations that had formed following the tragic events of Aya learning she contained Ceres, Yuuhi still couldn't fully trust any member of her family.

 

They had tried killing her and controlling her and even raping her. No matter how you looked at it, their family tree contained more than a few rotten branches. But Yuuhi could think of no one more resourceful or influential than Alec Mikage, the current head of the family after a small string of deaths put him in charge.

 

Yuuhi trembled involuntarily as his brilliant blue eyes caught sight of the horrifying display before him again. His stomach twisted violently as he thought about how he used to trust Aki. The man had become almost like a brother to him once the twins had been reunited and things had settled down. They had become close in a way he and Toya were never able to bond because of the generally unspoken, although often evident, jealousy over Aya.

 

But now… Toya was dead, and Aki was the primary suspect. No matter what kind of negative feelings Yuuhi had for Toya, he was still a good man who treated Aya well, and he didn't deserve this. He clenched his fist tightly as he forced himself to stare upon the murder scene for any additional clues.

 

In that moment he resolved that Aki would not be forgiven for this crime!

 

His resolve slipped as the sickening stench of dried blood attacked his senses and drove him back out the broken window and into a bush where he spilled the contents of his stomach.

 

Yuuhi felt weak as he kneeled in the grass with his head spinning. His palms pressed hard against the disturbed soil while his chest heaved slightly. Breathing slowly, he tried to take stock of the situation to decide how to proceed.

 

He had set up a meeting time with Alec in one hour at a small restaurant few customers frequented. Alec had advised him to leave Toya's house quickly after masking all signs he had been there and then to do nothing else until their rendezvous. But how could he leave Aya alone with that madman even a moment longer?!

 

Hurrying back to his car, he sped off toward Aya's house. There had to be some way to get her away from Aki safely.

Aki sat on the shower floor hugging his knees to his chest and rested his head between them. His body felt drained after his recent sexual and emotional turmoil. Aya was nearby, lying helplessly on the bed. His blood burned to go to her and claim her as his once and for all. But he knew if he did that the Mikage within him would take over completely and win. He couldn't let that happen...not to his precious sister.

 

He let the water spill over him as he tried to force the Mikage presence deep within him where he could keep it locked away.

 

`It won't be that easy,' Mikage's evil voice hissed inside Aki's head.

 

“Watch me,” Aki growled out in a low tone.

 

`You have to relax sometime. You have to sleep, but I don't. I am always here, always alert, and always ready to take over. Why don't you let me help you? We both want the same thing.'

 

“She is NOT yours!” he stated firmly just before his eyes turned a stark amethist.

 

`Fool! Of course she is mine! I trapped her here. I gave her purpose. I made her special. Without me, neither of you would be alive today! I built this family. So, don't you tell me what is and isn't mine!' came the somewhat rattled reply of Mikage.

 

“Did I hit a nerve?” Aki taunted back.

 

There was silence in his mind for a moment and Aki thought he had won the battle. He felt the hot beads of water continue to wash his pale skin while the steam filled the room. It was very soothing and soon his eyelids were drifting ever closer together.

 

Just as he was almost asleep, Mikage's voice whispered psychotically in his head again. `You seem very tired. This is a shower, not a bath after all. I think you lack the energy to stand. Perhaps, I should take over. I have plenty of energy. I think I will show Aya just how much energy I have.'

 

“SHUT UP!” Aki screamed. The word echoed off the bathroom walls and he quickly sucked in his breath as he quietly listened for any sign that he might have woken his sister from her drug-induced slumber, but she made no sound. `I have to get far away from her so I can sleep… and he cant get to her.'

 

Aki quickly got out of the shower knowing Aya would sleep a little longer. As the water dripped from his hair it mixed with the tears he couldn't hold back. He knew what he had to do as he dressed and grabbed his wallet. “For now I will leave and rest.” As he passed his sisters doorway his eyes traveled in to see the angel still lying in the bed. “Aya, I love you and always will.”

 

With tears spilling from his eyes Aki took the steps two at a time, knowing he had to get Mikage away from her. His cousin owned a yacht at the harbor and that's where he would go. By anchoring the boat out a good distance and making sure there was not enough fuel to start it up while he slept all would be safe till he returned. Aki looked up at the second story window at his sister's room once more before he dipped into his vehicle and drove away.

Yuuhi jerked the car in park hoping that at this time of night Aya was safe asleep in her bed. He cringed again as he visually remember what he had found at Toya's. He quickly slid out of the car and ran to the front door. Raising his hand to ring the doorbell he paused as it dawned on his he hadn't see Aki's car in the driveway as he had pulled in.

 

Looking hopefully back at the door his hand reached for the handle and with a satisfying click it freely opened. Yuuhi slipped inside on silent feet listening for any sound that alerted him that he wasn't alone. Last thing he needed was to be caught off guard by Aki. Hearing total silence his eyes traveled up the stairs were he knew Aya's bedroom was and he headed in that direction.

 

Aya's door was open and as he entered Yuuhi froze. There… lying on the bed uncovered was Aya… naked. Her hair was spread out across her pillow like silk and her cheeks were flush against her creamy skin. Yuuhi's vision swept the room seeing not only Aya's clothes thrown on the floor but Aki's as well. Rushing forward he called her name and frowned when she didn't even flinch at the sound of his voice. “Aya?”

 

Yuuhi's eyes began to glisten as he thought of Toya's death and Aya now … like this. Coming out of his shocked state he was by her side in an instant, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her gently. “Aya…Aya!! Please wake up.” Lifting her by the shoulders into a sitting position his eyes widened as her head lulled back and she moaned.

 

Hearing the sound let him know she was live and he crushed her to him entangling his hand in her hair and rocking back and forward. “Thank god.” Yuuhi whispered feeling her breath on his neck. Frowning at the fact that she was unable to wake up he laid her back down deciding it was time to take her far from here. He wasn't sure what was wrong with her but when she did wake up he would fine out.

 

Rummaging through her closet he grabbed out the first thing he found and turned to her, gently dressing her as if she were a child. Lifting her into his arms he decided, `until they could figure out what was going on with Toya's death and her deep sleeps Aya was not leaving his side.' Rising to his full height Yuuhi left her house and placed her in the back seat laying the blanket he had grabbed over her to keep her warm and hide her at the same time. Looking at his watch he knew he would have to hurry to meat Alec and decide the next move.
