Rei sat at the table, cautiously looking up at Kai as they shared their morning meal together. He carefully picked up a strawberry with his fork and placed it in his mouth, trying to be as quiet as possible so he wouldn't upset the Russian man.

He tried to pick up another strawberry with his fork, it slipped and hit the base of the plate, the berry slipping out and bouncing onto the pristine white table cloth. Kai looked up with narrowed red eyes, seeing the fruit rolling across the table before looking to Rei. “Sorry...” Rei muttered, reaching across the table and stabbing the fork into the strawberry, picking it up and popping it into his mouth. He turned his head and looked to Kai, feeling to hatred coming off his 'husband' in waves. “Problem?” He asks with a full mouth.

The Russian prince glared at him while silently making plans to have the Chinese boy properly house-trained before allowing him to dine with the rest of his family. “You got juice on the table...” He grumbles before standing up and leaving his half eaten meal behind, heading towards the door. Rei leaned up and examined the table cloth closely, his butt in the air. Kai felt a vein pop in his forehead at how unladylike his wife was being so he hooked his foot on one of the chair legs and pulled it out from under Rei.

Luckily though, the Asian boy had been trained in martial arts, so he could feel the chair moving before he fell. He placed his hands on the table and supported his weight, holding himself in the air using only his wrists as the chair clattered to the side. “That was a little uncalled for” He says, looking over his shoulder at Kai. He placed his feet on the ground, the dress sitting around his ankles once more. “We're dining alone...you don't honestly expect me to keep up this female charade one hundred percent of the time do you?”

“Actually I do...even when we're alone...until that grey old man dies or steps down from the throne and I can divorce you” He snaps. “Only act like yourself in your room...and don't let me hear it through the wall” He snips before turning on heel and walking out, his white twin scarves trailing behind him.

Rei stuck his tongue out and pulled a face. 'What a jerk' He thought before walking over to the chair and placing it the right way up. He looked at the stain on the table cloth, made by the strawberry and sighed. “It's barely even noticeable...that guy needs to pull his head out of his ass” He mutters to himself as he too left the kitchen.

“So how's your sex life?” Tala asks, once again lying on his back on Kai's bed and looking at the slate-haired boy. Kai looked over at Tala with a raised eyebrow.

“Why does that concern you?” He asks, placing his quill down.

Tala grinned and crossed his arms. “You said she had better be hot...well your wife is rating pretty high among the soldiers...and they've only caught glimpses of her...” He smirked. “You must have banged her by now...your wedding was yesterday after all”“Nope” Kai says before turning around and looking back down at his memoirs. “Not last night...not ever” He says with resignation.

“Why not?!” Tala pushed himself upright and climbed off the bed.

Kai sighed and looked back to his redhead friend, knowing he could trust the boy with anything. “Because...” he looks down, feeling the irritation of that morning return in waves. “She's...a he” He mutters.

Tala's mouth dropped open when he heard, his eyes popping out of his head. “What? How...when did you find out?” He asks, walking over and pushing himself up onto Kai's desk, looking down at the slate-haired boy.

“Last night...when I went to fuck my new wife” He grumbled, leaning on his hand and sighing. “I pulled her dress off...and her tit fell out...turns out those 'melons' you've all been talking out” He looks up at Tala with narrowed eyes. “Yes I've heard what you've been saying about her...well they're not exactly melons...they're leather pouches full of water...and she...has a dick” He groaned and pressed his forehead against the desk, running his hands through his hair. He normally wasn't so open about his problems or even emotions but this was driving his mind through the ringer.

Tala sighed and looked up at the ceiling, resting on his hands which were behind his hips. “That's...pretty fucked up of China to do that...” He mutters. “Wait...so why would they agree and send a man? Surely they'd know we'd find out eventually”

“That's the thing...they did have a princess” He sits up and looks to Tala, his hair extra spiky now from running his hands through it. “The bitch eloped the night she was meant to come here...” He grumbled. “They figured sending the most effeminate man in their family would be enough...clearly they didn't think I was ever going to try and have intercourse with him”

Tala smirked at Kai. “Oh...I don't know...I've had my theories about you Kai...” He says in a joking tone, earning a hot glare from the Russian Prince. “Oh come on...I've seen you with guys before. Always during those balls...you attract the attention of all the princes and none of the princesses...well that's not entirely true...but you only ever talk to the men” He chuckles behind his hand.

At that moment, Kai wished death upon his best friend. “I am not gay Tala Ivanov” He stands up and pulls his memoirs out from under the red-head's butt. “I will never be gay” He growls through clenched teeth and puts the papers away. “So keep your theories to yourself” He snaps before walking out of his room and leaving Tala sitting there alone.

Tala sighed and looked down at his hands as he fidgeted with his own fingers. “Stop lying to yourself Kai...” He mutters quietly to himself.

“Ouch! Dammit all!” He snaps, clenching the embroidered handkerchief in his hand and glaring daggers into the small silken piece of fabric. He looked to all the horrified women sitting around him, their eyes wide. “Oh...I mean silly me...I pricked my finger again” He says in a dainty voice before slumping back down into the chair, looking at his index finger.

Mariam sighed. “How do you still manage to prick yourself...you're wearing a thimble on every finger” She says in an exasperated tone. She takes the handkerchief back and sees the few spots of blood on it's surface. “And you were doing well with this one...but now it's ruined...Rei” She looked up at him.

Rei pouted and put the needle and thread down. “I don't know...I'm just not made for this kind of thing” He says, pulling the thimbles off his thumbs and index fingers, dropping them all back into the tray. “In China I learned how to fight...now how to sit around sipping tea and sewing all day” He muttered under his breath, looking back to the dark haired girl. “I guarantee you, if any one of these guards were to come onto me, I could knock them out in seconds” He says confidently.

“Oh really” A voice says from behind him, a hand resting on the back of the chair Rei was sitting on. The Chinese boy looked up and tilted his head, seeing a lilac haired man looking back down at him. “So you think you could take me out, do you?” He says in an arrogant tone.

Rei stood up and looked to the smug looking boy. “Yes...yes I do”

“Rei cool it...” Mariam says, trying to stop a fight from erupting between the two.

“No woman has ever beaten me...at anything” He says, crossing his arms and smirking at the Chinese boy. “So...care to take me on?” He taunts, earning glares from the women sitting around the table.

Before Rei could accept the challenge, he was spoken over by a charming red-head. “Bryan Kuznetsov! Learn some proper respect would you” He snaps, walking over and glaring at the lilac haired boy. He then looks to Rei and narrows his eyes. “Your husband has requested an audience miss Rei” He says, stepping closer as Bryan slinkered off like a sad puppy. He held his hand out, palm side down, so Rei could take it.

Rei sighed and rested his hand on Tala's, gathering up some of his skirt before stepping over the sewing kit and walking off down the hall with the red-head. He chanced looking at the boy who was leading him out to a secluded courtyard and sighed. 'I've really done it now...Kai is gonna put my head on a pike' He thought.

Tala lead him outside and gestured to a bench where he could take a seat. “You need to be more careful...especially around Bryan. He may be the head of the guard but he's also incredibly homophobic” He says with a knowing look when Rei's head snaps up. “Yes...I know you're not a woman...Kai told me”“Really? And he made such a deal about me not telling anyone...” He sighed and leaned back, placing his hands on his lap. “So what's the deal? What's that Bryan guy's problem?”Tala sat down next to him and looked up. “He's just very narrow minded...as are most of the people living here. As I said, he doesn't agree with same-sex marriage or any kind of union between a two people of the same gender. He's also misogynistic so if he sees or hears any woman thinking she can outdo him ay anything, he'll challenge them. It doesn't matter if they're the queen to be or a milkmaid...so you're lucky I intervened when I did” He looked to Rei. “If you care at all about Kai and his reputation, you'll keep a level head from now on” He stood up and went to head inside.

“And what if I don't care about Kai?” He decides to ask, before Tala could walk off.

Tala turned around and looked down at Rei with icy blue eyes. “Then you'll have me to deal with” He says in a dark tone before turning around and walking back into the palace.

He actually felt a chill run down his spine at that declaration and looked at his hands. 'Maybe I'm not trying hard enough to be a good wife figure for Kai...' He thinks, spending the rest of the afternoon mulling on what Tala had to say.

Later that night, after a hushed dinner with his wife, Kai was sitting in bed reading a book. The palace was very quiet during the night as the snow outside insulated it and keep the noise level very low. All he could hear was the tick-tocking of the grandfather clock in the corner of the room and the light crackles the fire made in the fire place. He turned a page in his book and continued to read when he heard the squeaking of someone climbing out of bed and the patting of feet walking towards his door, coming from Rei's room. He looked to the door, getting his best glare ready in case the boy tried to come in. Instead of the door being opened though, something small was slid under the crack between the wood and the floor.

Curiously, he got out of bed and walked over to the door, picking up the small envelope. He narrowed his eyes at it before pulling it open. Inside was a small note and a piece of fabric folded in half. He pulled the fabric out and looked at it, seeing a poorly embroidered phoenix on it. He cocked an eyebrow and looked at the note.

'To my prince. I offer you this favour in return for keeping my secret. Thank you' There was a small smiley face at the bottom which had cat ears and whiskers.

He shook his head and walked back to his bed, tossing the handkerchief onto his bedside table with the note. He sat back down on his bed and opened his book, trying to read another chapter. After ten minutes of trying, he sighed and looked to the handkerchief before leaning over and grabbing it and the note. He opened his bedside drawer and pulled out a small wooden box where he kept his treasures.

Inside was a small coin with a red phoenix engraved on the top and a few other little bits and pieces. He placed the handkerchief and note inside before replacing the lid and putting the box back into his bedside table. He sighed and put his book next to the lamp, putting the light out and laying down on his side.

Looking out the window at the moon in the sky, he felt a small smile creep onto his face. “Idiot...” He mutters as he drifts off to sleep.
