Chapter 7: A Battle and Remembrance
Last Time:
Everyone held their breath as the smoke finally cleared to reveal the winner. Everyone gasped. There was only one blade in the dish still spinning, the other lay completely still. The owners of the blades got up and made their way to the dish to see the results. When they got there, their eyes rested upon the motionless blade and the one still spinning.
It was going in circles around the dishes rim, like victory laps. The only one still spinning was a black and blood red blade with a three pointed attack ring.
Faith had won the match.
Now
Everyone stared at the dish with wide eyes. Faith had won. The sound of someone clapping was heard throughout the stadium. The only noise. Then, slowly, other people started to clap until everyone in the stands were clapping and cheering, having finally gotten over their initial shock.
Faith's team had gotten up from the bench and had gone to congratulate her. She hadn't lost so they still had a chance to win with Kat in the default match. Kai slowly went and picked up his motionless blade in the middle of the dish before walking back to his team. They tried to talk to him, but he brushed them off. He apparently didn't like the fact that he had lost to Faith.
The announcers tried to speak over the cheering but it was too loud. After a few minutes when the audience had finally calmed they had their chance to speak.
“Since Faith of the Warriors won the match, making it a tie with both teams at two wins and one loss, there will be a default match between the remaining team members of both teams! You will be allowed a five minute break to get ready!”
Tyson looked nervous but everyone kept reassuring him that he would be fine. Bree stared out at the other team, her gaze fixed on Tyson's opponent, Kat. She was working any kinks out of her blade now while her teammates crowded around her giving her tips. Well, only Morika was, but oh well.
She turned to Kai and tapped him on the shoulder. The Bladebreakers stopped what they were doing to see what she would want with their team captain. He stared at her annoyed. “What?” he snapped. She was unfazed by his harsh tone. “Let me blade against Kat in the default match.” She said bluntly.
The Bladebreakers stared at her in shock. “WHAAAAAT??” Tyson yelled. She glared at him. “You heard me. Let me blade against Kat. I know I'm technically not a part of this team, but please?” She stared Kai right in the eye. His gaze remained stoic, not giving away what he was thinking. He tried to search her eyes for a motive, but she gave away no reason as to why she wanted to battle Kat.
Finally, he turned away from her gaze and instead stood up as if to walk away. “Hn, fine. I'll go inform the announcers of the switch.” Bree smiled thankfully at him while Tyson's eyes bugged out. “B-but Kai!”
Kai turned to him and glared. “My decision is final! Deal with it Tyson.” He turned and walked away while Tyson instead turned to Bree and glared at her. She didn't acknowledge him. Instead, she got out her blade and started getting ready for her match. Ray and Max helped her tune up her blade a bit while Tyson sulked on the other side of the bench far away from them.
Kai returned right before her match was going to be announced to start and he sat down silently, not looking at anyone.
“Okay teams! Time for the default match to begin! I have just been informed of a switch in bladders on the Bladebreakers. Instead of Tyson blading like originally planned, their…um…substitute, Bree will be blading against Kat of the Warriors!”
Whispers started going through the audience. Things like:
`Who's Bree?'
`They have a substitute?'
And `Are they allowed to do that?'
Bree stood up and went to stand opposite Kat with the dish between them. She didn't seem surprised with the sudden change. As if she had been expecting it.
! With the other teams !
They stared at the TV in shock. “What is Bree thinking?!” Enrique shouted. All the teams (the Majestics, White Tigers, All-Starz, Saint Shields and Demolition Boys) were all staring at the TV. “What I want to know is why Kai is allowing it.” Lee stated. His team nodded in agreement and some of the others seemed to think about this.
The Demolition Boys stared at the screen silently, over their shock. They ignored the other team's conversations, and instead kept their gazes locked on the TV. `Bree, what are you planning?'
! With someone in the audience !
The figure stared at the happenings of the match in silence. She had not uttered a word since the match between Kai and Faith had started, which is when she had arrived. `So chosen one, you have arrived in this world safely. But the turning point is coming fast. The point in time were not even I know what will happen. All will be decided on your choice. The outcome of the future depends on it. I just hope you make the right one.'
The figure silently stood up from her seat and walked out of the stadium. She walked into a nearby alley were a dark portal like the one that brought Bree into this world appeared. She calmly walked through it with steady strides. When she was completely through, it disappeared behind her, leaving no trace that she was ever there.
! Back with Bree !
She smirked at Kat. “You don't seem surprised.” She shrugged. “No reason to be.” Bree was confused by this. `You ready Aurora?'
-Yes Bree-
`Good.'
Kat and Bree got out their launchers and attached their blades. Bree had noticed something about the Warrior's launchers. They were all guns like hers, but they all had something distinct about them that if you weren't looking for it, you wouldn't notice. She didn't think that even they noticed. She wondered if it was because of her being this `Chosen one'. She was snapped out of her thoughts by the countdown starting.
(I'm not gonna say what she noticed about their launchers till later. I like to keep people guessing)
“3…” They got into the ready stance.
“2…”Bree looked at Kat right in the eyes calmly, showing her determination.
“1…” Their grips on their launchers tightened.
“LET IT RIP!!” They pulled the triggers on their launchers and their blades launched into the dish with amazing speed, landing right in the middle. Their blades instantly started circling each other. Their eyes were trained solely on the dish and the moving blades in it, ignoring everything else around them, blocking out the sights and sounds until it was only them and the dish.
Bree looked up and noticed everything around them was black. “Huh?” She looked over to Kat, freaked out, and noticed that she was as calm as ever. “Kat…What's going on?”
! With the Bladebreakers !
They shot up from their seats as a thick black fog started surrounding the dish and the two bladders. “What's going on?!” Max shouted. It was almost like Tyson's match against Tala, just with no big structure made of ice. The people in the audience started talking frantically. The one's who had been at the world tournament when Tala and Tyson had battled each other didn't freak out as much.
The warriors stood up and walked over to where the Bladebreakers were. They stared at them confused. “Do you guys know what is going on?” They looked at them calmly. “Yes. Apparently Bree and Kat need to talk, so…”
! Back with Bree !
“…so I used my bit-beast to create a thick black fog,” she gestured to the blackness, “so that we could talk privately while still blading.” Bree looked around her. Were in the middle of some fog?” Kat nodded. “Oh, Okay.”
Kat sweatdroped. `Okaaay…' Then she got a serious look on her face. “Bree, do you really believe in what we told you?” Bree got a contemplating look on her face. `Do I believe them, really? You have to admit, what they told me is a bit hard to believe. Yet it still makes a whole lot of sense. It would certainly explain some things. Like were I really come from, why I suddenly arrived here, why I have amnesia…'
Bree looked back to Kat. “Yeah, I do believe you guys.” Kat smiled at her. “Good. But now you have to know exactly what your getting yourself into, and maybe I can answer some of your questions.”
Bree nodded. “Shoot.” So Kat started. “I guess I should start off by explaining a couple things to you first, they may help to answer some questions.” Bree nodded her acceptance to this, faintly noticing that their blades were spinning calmly in the middle of the dish, so Kat started up again.
“The chosen one is said to have originally come from this world, but was sent to another one to keep them, her, safe until they were needed. So you Bree are originally from this world, which means you have family here, somewhere.” Bree chocked at this. She got a weird sensation in her chest, but chose to ignore it. “Y-you mean, I-I actually have some f-family here?” She couldn't seem to get the words out right. Kat nodded. “Then why can't I remember them?”
“Well, you must have been very young when you were taken from this world, am I right?” Bree nodded “I was five.” Kat continued “Right. Well, since you were so young, I would think the stress of your body passing through dimensions like that would cause a few problems, like amnesia for instance.” Bree looked shocked. “But you should have regained your memories when you came back, if not right away, then at least you should start to remember small bits and pieces of your past. I might take a couple months for you full memory to return. Have you seen and strange… visions…while awake or asleep that you couldn't explain?”
Bree's eyes widened as if just realizing something. “Yeah I have! At night I sometimes have a dream about a small girl, about four or five, which has my hair color. She was with a boy, I could never see anyone's faces, just their hair colors, he had lilac hair. In another one she was with four boys, one with green hair, red hair, and blonde hair. That lilac haired boy was there as well. And she kept calling him brother, and they kept calling her Ratri…”
Kat didn't interrupt her, even though Bree realized she was rambling. “Then when I was in the waiting room for the tournament, I was talking to the Demolition Boys, and I heard Ian, the short one, say something funny. He said something about `Ratri'. And now that I realize it, they all have the same hair colors as the boys in the vision thing; one of their names was even Tala…”
Bree suddenly felt a sudden sharp pain in her head, and Kat felt it too. Bree fell down to her knees holding her head, and Kat quickly rushed over to her. “Bree!”
With the Warriors and Bladebreakers -
Faith, Morika, and Tara all felt it at the same time, a sharp pain in their heads. Morika grabbed her head, and Faith and Tara tried not to do the same. The bladebreakers noticed this. “You okay?” Ray asked Tara. She blushed, VERY LIGHTLY, at his concern. “Yeah, were fine. But I don't think Bree is…” She turned to Faith and she nodded, as if agreeing with her. “Yeah. “Morika stated. “Something must be wrong.”
Ray got a concerned look on his face. “Something is wrong with Bree? What!?” (Don't worry NightShadow, this will still be a pairing between Tara and Ray! He's just concerned in the brotherly sense) they shook their heads. “How do you guys even know that something is wrong with Bree?” Kai asked suspiciously.
Faith glared at him, angry that he was insinuating that she was lying. “You wouldn't understand! Plus you guys'd think we were whack jobs.” He still looked suspicious but let it drop.
-Back with Bree-
Kat was shaking Bree, trying to get a reaction out of her. But her attempts were futile. She just kept staring at some spot on the ground, lost inside her mind. Kat sat back on her heels in defeat. `I just hope she snaps out of it soon. If not, who know what will happen…”
-Inside Bree's mind-
Bree was suspended in darkness, images flying all around her. She couldn't make anything out about any of them. They were just flying blurs of color. Suddenly, a certain image stopped in front of her. She started at it. It was a frozen image of that girl, Ratri, whom Bree now had a sneaking suspicion was herself, standing next to her brother staring out at a crowd of fifty or so kids. Standing next to them was the purple haired man. Bree had only a moment to inspect it before she was sucked into the memory…
Flash! -
Bree found herself standing in front of the same crowd she had been just previously looking at. There were about five or six rows of straight standing kids, with about ten or fifteen in each row. Bree looked to her side and found Ratri and that boy standing next to the purple haired man. The kids were talking amongst themselves and pointing to were Ratri and (I'm just gonna call him Bryan now, you guys should already know its him by now anyways, even if she doesn't, it's getting annoying to keep writing that bo- Readers: Get on with it!!! Me: EEP!) Bryan.
“SHUT UP!!” the man bellowed. The kids instantly quieted. “Good. These two are new…recruits, to Biovolt. This is Bryan Kuznetsov,” he pointed to the boy, “and his younger sister, Bree Kuznetsov. Now back to training!” The kids scampered off to wherever they were supposed to be, but the buy held three kids back. “You three! Come here!” They walked over, and Bree saw they were Tala, Ian and Spencer, but chibi (1) sized!
“Yes sir?” The small Tala asked him. “I want these two to train with you! Now get going!” They nodded and started walking off. Bryan and Bree hesitated, looking at each other before walking after them. They soon stopped at a private training room with a big dish in the middle. After closing the door, they turned and smiled slightly at them. The red head stepped forward. “I'm Tala. The blonde one is Spencer, and the midget with the big nose is Ian.”
Ian fumed at this. “Don't call me short!! I'm just vertically challenged!! And don't make fun of my nose!” Bree and everyone else laughed, the ice broken. Bree stepped forward and pushed Ian in the forehead lightly. “Didn't you know shorty? Saying your vertically challenged is just a nice way of saying your short.” Ian glared at her and lunged. Bree danced back, evading it. For a four year old she was fast. Ian growled and stared chasing her, Bree laughing as she ran away…
Flash! -
Bree felt herself being pulled from the vision, slightly dizzy. “So, Bryan is my brother…Then all those visions I saw before were of me…” Bree trailed off, realizing that the Demolition Boys must have realized already who she was. She felt bad. She had told them that she flat out didn't remember them. Suddenly she was falling. But this time the images weren't there.
“AAHHHHHHHH!!”
- Out of Bree's mind -
Kat was surprised when Bree's previously glazed over look vanished and she screamed. Kat rushed to her, hugging her, trying to calm her. “Bree! It's okay! Calm down!” Bree calmed down and started crying into Kat's shirt.
Kat was surprised to say the least. She didn't know what to do. She slowly put her arms around her in a comforting manner and rubbed small circles on her back. Bree finally stopped crying not even a minute later. “M-my friends.” Kat looked at her, silently urging her to continue. She looked up at Kat, and she saw Bree's red eyes and the dry tear stains on her cheek “T-the Demolition Boys. They were my friends when I was little. Bryan's my brother.” Kat's eyes widened at this information. “I feel so bad. I told them I didn't remember them.” Kat's eyes softened.
“I'm sure they don't blame you.” Bree looked so lost for a second. Like she was a child who just needed guidance. “You sure?” Kat nodded. Bree smiled at her. “Thank you Kat.” “No problem.”
Then Kat let her go and stood up, helping Bree up as well. Then Kat smirked at her. “If I remember correctly, we have a battle to finish.” Bree looked confused, before looking over to the dish and smirking. “I do believe your right.”
They got back into their places and called their blades back to them. They were going to start over. “Ready?” Bree started.
“3…” Kat said tightening her grip on her launcher.
“2…” Bree said, also tightening her grip on her launcher.
“1…” They said together.
“LET IT RIP!” They both released their blades, and they shot into the dish before circling each other, looking for a weakness. Bree, seeing no weakness, decided to create one. “Aurora! White blaze!!” (2) Aurora raised her staff, an org appearing on the top. She raised it in the air before saying something and pointing it at Ebony. A bright flash of white came from the orb, blinding Kat and Ebony, though Bree and Aurora could see just fine.
“Aurora! Gem daggers!” Before Ebony or Kat could recover, Aurora said something again before pointing her staff this time at the sky. Something flashed, then thousands of daggers made of crystal rained down. Aurora directed them towards Ebony, and as they hit there was a flash of light. When the light cleared…there stood Ebony! Unharmed!
Kat laughed at Bree's shocked face. “I used Ebony shield. It made a shield around Ebony so she would not be harmed. Now Ebony! Dark illusion!”
Bree didn't see anything happen so she smirked at Kat. “Guess it didn't work.” But Kat kept smirking. Bree shrugged it off. “Aurora! Angel wing slash!” Aurora's wings whipped around her, shielding her, then they whipped back to their original positions, but a line of feathers In the shape of an `X' were zooming towards Ebony. They hit head on, destroying Ebony. Bree was shocked. That wasn't supposed to happen! Then she thought about what Ebony's attack had been. `Dark illusion, could it…' Bree's eyes widened. “Aurora! Behind you!”
But it was too late. Kat was smirking triumphantly. “Ebony! Black fire!” Fire started to grow around Ebony, swirling around her. Fire started gathering in her mouth, and then the fire left her mouth, along with the fire that was around Ebony. The fire took the form of a wolf and zoomed towards Aurora. Bree's eyes widened in horror. `Aurora...'
It hit. There was once again a flash of light, this time accompanied by smoke. When the smoke cleared, only Aurora's blade was spinning. Kat looked absolutely shocked. “What?!”
This time it was Bree laughing at her face. “I used white blaze right when your attack hit mine. White blaze is and attack and a defense. I can choose how it works. When I used it, your attack was disengaged, and it hit Ebony, who was still vulnerable and weak since she had just used that attack. So I won.”
Kat's shocked look turned into one of amusement. “Heh, guess I shouldn't have underestimated you.” Bree smirked playfully. “Look's like it.” The fog around them started to fade since Ebony had lost. The noise of the crown hit them full force though. “Ow!” Bree covered her ears. “Can't they be a little quieter!?” Kat laughed.
“Well folks! It looks like that fog is finally starting to disappear! Let's hope we have a winner!” When the fog had fully faded, the crowd gasped. “We have a winner! The winners of the first match of the tournament are the Bladebreakers!” The crowd started cheering. The Bladebreakers ran up to Bree, or in Kai's case walked, and hugged her, or in Kai's case, just nodded.
Bree laughed and rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. The warriors walked up to Kat and congratulated her on trying. Bree walked up to them. They looked at her as she approached. “I just want to say that now I fully believe you guys. And Kat, your going to have to explain some of those things to me another time, we got interrupted.” Kat smirked, remembering.
Morika laughed and hugged Bree sideways with her arm around her shoulder. “Nice to know you don't find us crazy anymore! Unlike earlier when you said you didn't think we were psychopaths!” Bree laughed. They walked with her and the Bladebreakers back to the waiting room were she was congratulated on beating Kat. She also introduced The Warriors to everybody. The next match was the Majestics against someone they hadn't heard of before, so they didn't pay attention to the name.
Kat walked over to her, and nudged her. Bree had been sitting by herself staring into space while everyone else was talking. “Huh?” She snapped out of her daze to see a chuckling Kat. “Yeah?” She just pointed over to the Demolition Boys and left. They were standing by themselves, watching her. Bree knew what she meant. She didn't have to speak. Bree had figured out that her protectors had a special bond with her that would let them speak telepathically and t=let them know if she was in trouble or hurt when they weren't with her.
Bree stood up and started walking over to the Demolition Boys. She could feel the other teams watching her, staring holes into her back. The Demolition Boys watched with emotionless faces, though she could see a spark of curiosity in their eyes, and a small spark of hope in Bryan's.
She stood in front of them, slightly nervous. What if Bryan hated her? What would he say? “Umm, Bryan? Can I talk to you for a moment?” She looked in his eyes and saw that spark of hope increase slightly. “Sure.” He said it so uncaringly that Bree thought he didn't really want to for a moment.
She led him out into the hallway were they could be alone. She could feel the gazes of wonder directed towards her, also with happiness. And gazes of hate directed towards Bryan. When they were safely away from prying eyes, Bryan leaned up against the wall, Bree facing away from him.
“What did you want to talk to me about?” Bree wondered how she should say this. “I wanted to talk to you because, I-I um…” Bryan was growing frustrated. She was his sister, and he loved her, even though she couldn't remember, but this was getting ridiculous. “Spit it out!” His tone was annoyed and Bree though he might be mad at her.
“I remember you now!!” She said quickly. She heard silence from behind her. Then the rustling of fabric, before two strong arms encircled her waist, a head on her shoulder. Bree put her hands over his, relieved that he didn't hate her. “You have no idea how much I was hoping you would say that.” His voice was loving; something Bree got the impression many people didn't hear. Bree turned around in his arms and hugged him back, her face buried in his chest.
“Brother…” his arms tightened around her at that. And Bree was finally truly happy. She finally remembered, even if not much, her brother. His absence the reason why she never felt right. Now she felt like a part of her soul had been returned, the part that held the bond most brothers and sisters always had, even if most didn't know it was there.
“How long have you known?” The question startled Bree. “I just figured it out during my match with Kat. She helped me to remember.” He nodded. Then he pulled back and looked at her. He smiled, if a faint, barley there smile, but he smiled none the less. Bree felt happy to see that smile, to finally be back in the arms that had protected her so much when she was younger, the arms that helped her during her pain filled nights at the abbey.
“Come on. Let's go back in. The others will be happy to know your back. And your friends probably think I murdered you by now or something.” Bree laughed, and Bryan was happy to see his sister so happy, unlike how she was at the abbey. Sure she was happy, but most of the time it had been fake happiness. Her only moments of true happiness were when she was with her brother and friends all together, all alone. They headed back inside, Bryan now walking a safe distance from Bree, and went back to his team.
They could feel the inquiring gazes of her friends, but they ignored them. The Demolition Boys say the look of happiness on bree face and the barley noticeably uplift of Bryans lips. When they stopped in front of them, they looked hopeful, not a very common thing to see on the usually emotionless Demolition Boys' faces. “Do you?” Tala's question was hopeful too.
Bree smirked at them. “What do you think? Red headed fool…” Tala smiled when she said her childhood nickname for him. “Ratri! Your back!” He hugged her, not caring about her friends reactions. She laughed. “Yes. Now if you don't mind, oxygen, becoming an issue…” He let go of her, smiling slightly, though it was more of a smirk than a smile. Bree smiled back at him, their eyes holding a bit longer than they should have.
Across the room, Johnny saw this and glared jealously at Tala.
Chibi- means little, or small
I know in the beginning Bree didn't know their attacks, but let's just say during one of their conversation they told her their attacks.
