Chapter 1: Kai and Rei
Kai stood against the wall, the shadows of the room hid him well.
'What am I doing?' He wondered in his mind 'This is insane! Why did I ever agree to this!'
His thoughts traveling all the way back to when he started the Blade Breakers.
'I had a team! I was undefeated!'
But he knew if he had just let Takao walk away with the Championship his team would have overthrown him.
'I -was- undefeated.' He repeated in his mind.
A sigh escaped his lips. He heard a key click in the hotel door.
"Really, Takao! There were other people in line behind us!" Max laughed
"Takao! That was for Kai!" Rei scolded.
"There's still some left!" Takao argued in defense.
Kai felt moisture in his eyes. He pushed of the wall in the main section of there room and started for the bedroom he and Rei shared.
The door opened. To late! Kai wasn't even half way to the room. The three boys spilled into the room giggling.
"Hey Kai, we brought you something to eat." Rei said in a normal tone.
Kai stooped his escape and without turning he gave a snort of indifference, but it came across weak. Kai's eyes widened and a tear fell to the floor. He held his breath. The giggling stooped.
"Kai? Are you ok, buddy?" Takao asked.
"Fine." He replied, breathless.
'Good Job Kai, they won't suspect a thing.' He yelled at himself mentally.
He continued into the bedroom, the door didn't completely close behind him.
"Someone should talk to him..." Max said.
"Not me! I just ate his lunch!" Takao said.
"I'll do it. I've got a better chance." Rei replied. "I know what it's like being a loner."
"Thanks Rei." Max said and gave Rei a small hug.
Kai watched, unsure of what was going on. He couldn't hear them. Then he felt a ting of jealousy as Max hugged Rei. He wanted to hug Rei.
'That is another thing that got you into this mess in the first place!' Kai mind screamed.
He stalked away from the door, another tear dropping. He sat at the head of his bed, facing away from the door. Another tear fell.
Rei slowly opened the door. He took a step in and after hearing no objection closed the door behind him and made his way to the end of Kai's bed.
"Kai..." He said softly. "Kai, what's wrong? You got us all real worried."
Kai didn't move. Didn't say anything. Rei took a deep breath and moved around the bed to sit next to Kai.
"Kai... Please talk to me..."
Kai felt Rei sit down, he couldn't hold back anymore. Just moments after Rei sat he dove into him, wrapping his arms around Rei's waist, and buried his face into his chest. Rei could feel Kai's tears hitting his shirt. Rei draped his arms around Kai's shoulders and let them fall down his back.
They sat like that for several moments till Kai finally looked up at Rei. His eyes were bloodshot and his face held an obvious sadness.
"I'm sorry Rei..." Kai said quietly. "Thank you."
"For what?" Rei asked, just as quiet. "I don't understand."
"For just being here."
"No, that's not it. Why are you sorry?"
"For... for... worrying you... and the others, of course."
Rei wiped the newly forming tears out of Kai's eyes. Kai could feel the blush cover his face. Rei looked puzzled for a split second but realized what was happening. Kai had a crush... on him.
Rei leaned down so his nose was to Kai's. He then closed his eyes and the distance between their lips. Kai was shocked, but only for a moment. He returned the kiss Rei had begun. Soon after Rei began to deepen the kiss. His tongue ran across Kai's lips and as if in compliance Kai opened his mouth and allowed Rei to enter.
A heated battle soon began. Kai and Rei's tongues began darting around, swirling and dancing in each others' mouths. They each pushed closer to the other and soon tipped over onto the bed. Rei rolled himself on top of Kai. He went up on his knees and elbows to keep from crushing Kai. Kai still had his arms around Rei's waist.
Rei broke the kiss and the two took in a large breath of air. Rei grinned to Kai and Kai couldn't help but smile back, the smile was also joined by a bright blush.
"Rei... I... I should have..." Kai started.
Rei placed a finger on Kai's lips. "Shh. It's ok. I understand."
"Rei, I love you."
"I love you too, Kai."
