Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ Good evening ❯ a thousand plants ( Chapter 5 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Silver moonlight reflected off of glossy leaves, giving the room an illusion of glowing.
Never had the boy prince ever seen so many different types of plants, not even in his own garden.
Purple-tinged creeper plants stretched themselves out across tables and fell to the floor in an attempt to touch every possible surface with their large ace-shaped leaves. A collection of small flowers invaded a table close to the window, displaying pastel shades of purple, blue, pink, and yellow. Giant ferns stretched and draped themselves by the walls, joined by small trees of different sizes and shapes; some bared unforgiving red spines, while other more droopy trees provided a soft and furry look. So many plants abounded in the small room that it was impossible to name them all even for the most expert florist.
Fascinated golden orbs traced each table, taking in the light and dark shades of green, the soft and bright colors, the differing sizes… he'd never seen anything like it before.
Seeing so many plants all together in one place pushed the former incident of almost running into two separate people of very large stature from mind.
Rei walked into the room, looking around with wide eyes. Any thought of finding a way out of the castle was put out of mind just as quickly as the previous thought of danger.
The sight of the plants brought the raven-haired youth such joy as he walked that he lost himself in thoughts of the beautiful foliage. The sweet scent of nectar filled the air from the many softly flowering plants, giving the room an air of warmth. Upon further examination of the room's air one would notice that it was indeed warm. The air was as warm as if the sun were gracing it with kisses despite that it was night outside the window.
Rei mused over how rare a warm room in a castle was to find, but quickly forgot the thought as his attention was drawn back to the plants again. He loved plants; they felt happy to him, like a good friend would. He had never told his mother this though, for fear that she would cast him out for being the son of a witch, as she had feared when he mentioned his odd knack for saving plants. And of all the plants that the prince had ever come across, these were by far the most friendly. They forced a feeling of comfort and security into him, and he found himself wishing that he would never have to leave, not even to return home.
The thought startled him, why shouldn't he wish to go home? He was kidnapped, after all, and thusly not in the least bit as safe as he felt… which brought another thought to mind: why were these plants all together in this particular room? And why were there no treasures adorning the walls or the floor as there was everywhere else in the so called castle? Perhaps the plants were used in potions of some sort; Rei remembered reading books on witchcrafts which used plants in casting spells or forming potions to turn a man into a wiled boar or make him sleep and never again waken. A shiver made it's way through his body, it was possible. He vaguely recalled being put to sleep by something when he was being taken by the boy-thief two nights previous this. It had smelled of sweet roses, the sweetest that he had ever smelled. Could that have been a potion made from the plants of this room?
`If these plants are used in such concoctions,' he thought to himself, drawing back slightly from the table in front of him, `then I should destroy them all right now!'
He stood, surrounded by the silence of the room for several minutes contemplating the idea. But how could he bring harm to such beautiful and warm beings? He couldn't imagine being able to, but felt that he must. It was possible that if he did, he would save the life of a soon-to-be victim to the thief; maybe even himself. He raised a hand, ready to swipe the beautiful silky green mass from the pine table before him, and froze. If he did kill them all, what would happen? Wouldn't the thief merely grow more? Would it even matter?
After much consideration, the slender arm was lowered with a moaned sigh of defeat. He couldn't harm the gentle and sessile foliage; it had done nothing to deserve an all-ending blow.
As he turned away from the single table before him, a low growl was uttered from somewhere else in the room, freezing him in place. The sound was very much similar to the ones he had heard before, out on the passage he had escaped from barely in time. A second growl from a location much closer to himself sent a shutter through his small frame. It was like a dog's growl, only louder, and more threatening than any canine he had ever heard before.
Golden eyes darted around the darkened room, searching for anything in the pale moonlight. He saw nothing but plants and tables silhouetted against the soft silver glow.
Suddenly, movement came from behind him. He turned quickly to see what it was, only to give a pained cry as his back met very painfully with the hard stone floor.
He looked up quickly from where he now lay, and gasped at what he saw. Standing over him on all fours was a large creature. Its massive body was blanketed in thick dark brown fur that covered every inch of it, right down to the tip of its snout. Crimson red eyes stared viciously down at him, letting him know in the most forceful way they could that the creature was unfriendly. Saliva swung in strands from two rows of long, sharp, yellow and red teeth shown menacingly from an open mouth. Legs as big around as an average sized tree's trunk were on either side of his shoulders, long black claws scratching the stone by his ears to produce a horrible screeching sound that forced shivers down the boy's spine. Over all, the creature looked like a large bear or some sort.
It snarled loudly, fire burning in its eyes as though it had just captured an invader of some sort lurking around its unprotected home.
Rei closed his eyes; the creature was going to eat him. The sheer size of the brown body told the boy that he had no hope of pushing the creature away, nor saving himself in any other way. Where has such a large creature been hiding? But then, what did that matter?
He chanced a slight glance up at the creature again, not particularly sure why and not caring why.
One massive paw was raised above him, claws pointed down. He gasped when the paw began its rapid decent toward him, and closed his eyes involuntarily once more.
A pained yowl filled the room, followed by a loud thud that shook the floor.
A golden eye slowly peeked open, having not felt the expected pain. Was he dead so quickly; had the sound come from him, he wondered. The realization that he was still alive sent a wave of relief through his body, and of wonder. How? He did not have to wait long to know the answer when his gaze came to rest on a tall but slim figure bathed in soft moonlight in front of him.
Sai's notes:
All right, I'm sorry that it is a little bit shorter than usual… I sort of didn't really care to um… write anything more because it's not the weekend because I may be busy this weekend and thus wanted to get this up a little early. This'll be the last chapter until after July 10th because I'm going out of country… and I'm sorry to say that I will not be making up for the lost time… gomen!
So, I hope that no one's too… um… steamed at me for not writing anything to make up for the lost time… I also hope that you liked this chapter and will review on it or something since you've read it ^^ And I've not proof-read this yet, but I might get to that before I leave!
