Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ Guilt ❯ Yearning for home ( Chapter 2 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Not long after she gave into her yearning for home, she started planning a way to get there. A few weeks afterwards, her bags were packed and she was ready to go. Though there were a lot of people displeased with her leave, Mariah seemed to be the only one fighting it. She was currently standing in Faiths room trying to convince her friend in staying.
“Why must you leave us after all this time? You've sort of become part of the tribe here, you know. Strange though, since you hardly ever talk to us or acknowledge our presence, but you've been here for so long. It'll be strange without you around. It felt good to have a girl around that actually knew more bout blades than me, which is impressive since I know a whole lot of them what makes you smarter. You know, I think even Lee was…”
“Mariah… you're rambling”
A blush formed on the Asian girls cheeks.
“Oh yeah, sorry, it's just that, I'll miss you, we'll all miss you. You have to at least admit that you'll miss us too. That you hold some emotions at least.”
Mariah noticed that she had blurted out that last thing too late. She heard Faith sigh. The dual haired girl liked Mariah, but sometimes she just talked way too much. Not looking up at her, Faith uttered a rather standard response. Eye contact meant forcing someone to be honest and that was something she had learned to avoid in the time she had been in the convent.
“Yes Mariah, I will miss you guys. But I just wish to go home.”
“How can you call it home? You haven't been there in years, how can you still remember you had a home there?”
Faith pointed at her backpack. An old scruffy thing that looked like it was about to tear up if it would get picked up again.
“In there are my memories, those memories showing me the home that I had to miss for so long. I might not be able to bring them back, but I'll be able to live in the memories of their presence. I'll still see my mom coming down the stairs when she and my dad went out to the movies. I'll still see my little brother playing on the rug in the corner. And most important of all, I'll still hear my mom and dad tell Chester and me stories before we go to bed. That is what I will remember, and that is why it is my home. I don't expect you to understand what I feel Mariah, you never really lost home, nor family.”
Mariah was about to open her mouth, but as Faiths words sank in, she just closed it and looked at the girl awed. She had heard a great deal of emotions in that voice and knew that there was no way to keep the European here whatsoever. Sadness crept into the heart of the pink haired blader. She had not expected to care so much for a person that hardly talked. This girl was just leaving them like that, not even showing a moment of regret. Not that Faith ever showed anything, but she had grown on Mariah, and soon the latter had learned to understand Faith by some simple expressions or sounds the girl made. To Mariah, they had become more like sisters, and she had hoped that she would at least get some sadness radiating from the girl. But as always she felt nothing.
“So this is goodbye then.”
The statement was made quick and painless, but yet it had been enough to startle Faith and make her look up. When she saw Mariah's downcast look and the slumped position something clicked inside her head. After all the years of staring without really seeing anything, she now saw an expression of true sadness. And for the first in a long time she felt something. An intense wave of loss fell upon her. She had no idea what it meant, but she was finding it difficult to speak in a clear voice.
“Mariah…”
The pink haired girl looked up in wonder, the tears evident in her eyes. She had never before heard Faith speak like that. When she saw the European her amazement grew. The colour of her eyes was now specked with purple as she approached Mariah. Not really knowing what to do, but relying on her emotions, Faith stroked Mariah's hair and pulled her into a hug. The impossible things happened that day: Mariah's was speechless and the thick walls around Faith's heart were breached, if only a little. Faith was the first to break the silence.
“I've never said goodbye to anyone before, but this doesn't feel like one either. Goodbye is when people will never see each other again. I'm just merely going away, you'll see me again, I promise.”
And she spoke the truth, in the 15years of her life, Faith had never been able to say goodbye to anyone before. Her family had been taken away from her before she had the chance to, and she had left her friends at the convent in the middle of the night.
“We're all going to miss you Faith. I just wished we could've gotten through to the human you sooner.”
A small smile erupted from the normally serious face.
“And how many more times must I tell you that I'll miss you guys too?”
A cough was heard next to them, making both girls look up startled.
“I'm sorry to bother you girls on this private moment, but the elder would like to see Faith before she leaves. Urgent business is all he told me.”
Faith looked at Mariah, a little unsure of what to do now. She hadn't felt emotions for too long.
The Asian girl just smiled.
“Go, the elder is expecting you. He's too important to be kept him waiting.”
And so she followed Lee to the building where the elder was. As soon as the old man saw her, a smile lit on his face.
He did not know why, there was just something about this girl that made him smile every time he saw her. She just radiated this pure innocence. Even though she always glared at everyone that dared to show happiness. His eyes widened when the girl smiled back at him. It seemed a little quaint and uneasy, but her eyes were smiling too. When the elder saw that his wrinkled mouth widened even more.
“Lee my son, could you leave me and Faith alone to talk?”
The young blader made a short bow and left the room. Faith looked at the elder questioningly. It was not normal for the old man to keep a conversation secret. She was sure Lee was thinking the same thing.
“Don't worry my child, I just sent Lee away so we could discuss more private things, nothing to worry about. How long has it been since you came here and graced us with your incredible power? 2 years?”
“3years and a half sir.”
“Ah yes, time goes by to fast when you wish it to go slow doesn't it.”
“Indeed it does, but might I ask you what you mean by my incredible power? I have none, if it wasn't for myriad I wouldn't have been able to stay here in the first place. It is her power that has done the gracing.”
“That is where you are wrong young one. It is true, your bitbeast is powerful, but that is not the power of which I speak. The real power of a bitbeast is inside its wielder. Your Myriad wouldn't be half as strong if it had been in the possession of one of my tribe. You have a power inside of you that can tame even the wildest storm; you just have to stop fearing it.”
“Fearing what sir? I have nothing”
“You have, your emotions my dear. You have to let them go. Stop being afraid of them.”
She stared at him open mouthed and clearly feeling insulted.
“Excuse me? I am not afraid of my emotions; it wasn't my intention to get stuck in a place where we have to tuck them away. It takes a while to get rid of that training you know.”
The man laughed at her expression, but his tone never lost its seriousness.
“I'm old my child, but that doesn't make me stupid. You are afraid of your emotions, even if you are not able to admit it. You still use biovolt training as a cover because you are scared. I don't know why, but I will tell you that you shouldn't be. The powers you have, are rare and powerful my child. It would be a shame to see that go to waste.”
She had listened to the old man with an open mouth. She wasn't afraid; she had never feared anything so why should she fear her emotions. Her emotions had once gotten her in trouble, and on that day she had vowed never to feel them again. It was not because she was scared.
She was pulled from her `I'm not afraid of my emotions'-mantra when the elder placed a small black box in front of her.
“What's this?”
“Open it and you shall find out young one. Think of it as a token of our gratitude.”
She carefully lifted the top from the box and what she saw inside nearly made her drop the lid again. Inside was one of the most powerful bitbeasts: Ragos. She had learned about its history from this tribe. The bitbeast had been in possession of this tribe for centuries, passing on from generation to generation. Faith looked at him with a big determination on her face.
“You cannot give me this. This is the tribe's heirloom, I cannot, will not accept this. Why isn't one of the white tigers in possession of this priceless bitbeast?”
“My dear, the days of old have passed a long time now. The strong blood that once ran in this tribe has lessened. None of the white tigers can control its power anymore.”
“That is still no reason to give it to an outsider.”
“It was my bit for many long years my dear, but my end is nearing and I must find a suitable heir for him. Outsider or not, you have become a part of this tribe, and that gives you the right to have Ragos as your bit.”
She bowed her head in gratitude.
“I thank you for such a major gesture, but I cannot accept this. The bit must stay here in the tribe. I have no right to this. Only the people with birthright should be able to lay claim on this.”
The man smiled. Somehow he had a feeling this girl would reject the bitbeast. Her heart was too pure and too honest to take away an heirloom. He knew that if she had accepted it, ragos would've been in the right hands. He suddenly looked at the clock that was hanging above the door.
“Oh dear, I have kept you here for so long. If you don't leave soon you won't make it to the village by tomorrow. Faith looked up shocked and glanced at the clock and cursed. He was right; she was going to have to hurry. Even though she had a car driving her, the next village was still miles away. She rushed over to the elder and gave him a quick hug. Startled by this it took him a while to hug back, but in the end he did so with a big smile.
“Thank you for everything.”
“Quite alright dear, quite alright, now get going.”
And that is how Faith left the Asian grounds, setting course for Europe.
