Chapter 11
*************************************
Kai reached behind himself and groped for the covers. He was kind of cold. Growling in annoyance when he couldn't find any of the blankets, he cracked an eye open and frowned.
Tyson had rolled up against the wall and when he did, took all the covers with him.
"Okay. That's it. We're getting a bigger bed." Kai muttered, sitting up and yanking on the covers to pull them away from his sleep-like-a-stone lover, who rolled back towards Kai and let out a soft snore.
Kai glanced at the alarm clock and smiled. Plenty of time. He readjusted the covers over himself and Tyson and snuggled back down under them. "Tyson…" He said, brushing his mouth across his boyfriend's. "Wake up lover." Tyson sighed and wrapped his arms around Kai, pulling him close protectively. Kai kissed him again and Tyson responded, returning the pressure of Kai's lips on his own.
"Mmm…Kai…" Tyson moaned softly. His fingers came up and tunneled through silky duel-colored hair, his lips moving softly over Kai's lingeringly.
Kai sighed and stroked Tyson's hip, smiling when Tyson opened his eyes and blinked sleepily at him with his deep midnight blue orbs.
"Well, now I know how to wake you up in the mornings without causing bodily harm." Kai grinned.
"Oh shut up." Tyson groaned and buried his face in the pillow and nuzzled Kai's hair. "Why're you waking me up anyway?"
"Cause I'm awake and I didn't feel like being awake alone." Kai pulled the blankets up over their heads, creating their own little intimate world. "That and we've got class in a couple hours."
Tyson made a face. "Ugh. School." He snuggled closer and ran his hands over Kai, loving the feel of all that smooth, creamy skin and the toned muscles underneath. "Can't we just stay here?"
Kai shivered at his touch and sought Tyson's mouth with his own. "Sorry love."
"Mmm…" Tyson grasped the back of Kai's head and flicked his tongue over Kai's bottom lip, seeking entrance. Kai opened for him and Tyson plunged inside. They kissed passionately, hands roaming and caressing bare skin wherever they could find it. Kai moaned as one of Tyson's legs slid between his forcing Kai's leg over his hip and the length of their bodies to press together.
Tyson rolled them over until he was on top, never taking his mouth from Kai's. His hand drifted to Kai's hip and gripped as Kai wrapped that leg around his waist. "Ah! Ty…"
"Why can't I get enough of you?" Tyson nuzzled Kai's shoulder, rocking against Kai in his desire. He licked at the Phoenix's sensitive skin and Kai purred in pleasure. The Dragon captured Kai's mouth once more and they both moaned.
{Um…sorry to interrupt…} A slightly embarrassed voice cut into Tyson's lust-fogged mind. Tyson broke the kiss and growled, eyes narrowing. Kai blinked up at him, confused. "Ty-love?"
"Hold on." Tyson rubbed a thumb across his lover's bottom lip. {What, Dragoon? This is really not a good time!}
{I am sorry. But I thought you'd like to know that your grandfather is home. I sense his presence coming into the dojo.}
"He's what?!" Tyson exclaimed, rolling off Kai and getting out of bed. Kai frowned and watched him go to the closet to get a pair of jogging pants for himself and Kai.
"Who?" Kai snatched the sweat pants out of the air as Tyson tossed them at him.
"Grandpa. Dragoon says he's home."
"Shit!" Kai's eyes went wide and he hastily pulled on the pants, grabbing a tank top from the dresser and slipping it on. Tyson put on a t-shirt, too, before heading for the door. "God, Ty, I actually forgot he was coming home today!" He stopped Tyson just as his hand came down on the door handle. "Wait. What do we tell him? About us, I mean…"
Tyson looked at him. He heard a hint of fear in Kai's voice. "The truth. What is it Kai?" What are you worried about?"
"I…what if he doesn't accept us being together? What if he…"
Tyson cut him off gently. "Don't worry, love. Okay? Gramps is a pretty open-minded guy." He laid a hand on Kai's cheek. "All I need to know is that I love you. That's enough for me." He took Kai's hand and laced their fingers together tightly.
"Tyson…"
"Come on. Everything will be fine, Kai. You'll see."
They went out into the kitchen and found Gramps sorting through the mail. He looked up as the two teens came in.
"Hey dudes! What's shakin'?"
"Hi, Grandpa! How was the trip?" Tyson inquired, cheerfully.
"Not too shabby, little T. Everything go alright while I was gone?"
"Yeah. Well, we'll tell you about it after school." Tyson said, glancing at the clock. "Come on, Kai. We'd better get dressed."
Kai blinked at him in surprise. He'd thought they'd tell Gramps everything right then. Shrugging he followed Tyson from the room.
Neither teen saw Gramps knowing smile or heard his faint chuckle as they walked out. He'd seen that Tyson and Kai were still holding hands when they'd walked in - and when they'd left.
"It's about time." The old man said aloud to an empty room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tyson flopped down in his seat in their history class with a yawn. Kai slid in beside him.
"So are you going to tell me why we didn't tell Gramps anything?" Kai asked, quietly.
Tyson shrugged. "Well, for one thing, we had to get to school. Other than that, I just thought…you might want the time to compose yourself."
"Compose myself?" Kai glared.
"Ah…" Tyson waved his hands defensively. "Bad choice of words!"
"Hn."
"Um…hi, guys!" Wyatt sat down next to Tyson warily. "How's it going?"
"Hey, Wyatt!" Tyson greeted him cheerfully, oblivious to Wyatt's wariness. "Where'd you run off to this weekend?"
Kai lightly smacked Tyson upside the head. "You went all stormy, genius. You freaked him out."
Tyson blinked. "I did?" He scratched his head sheepishly. "Oh, sorry Wyatt! I, ah, didn't mean to."
"It's okay…" Wyatt opened his binder to a clean piece of paper. "What was all that anyway?"
Kai and Tyson exchanged looks. "Long story, Wyatt."
At that point the teacher came in and class got underway.
On their spare, Kai and Tyson went up to the roof to wait for their teammates for lunch.
Kai sat down on the edge of the picnic table, feet resting on the bench seat. "Should we let our bit-beasts out?" He asked Tyson.
"No. I don't think we should risk it." Tyson shook his head and smiled. "We'll let them out later at home and they can meet Grandpa."
"Yeah."
"In the meantime…" Tyson swayed towards Kai, a slow, sexy smile spreading across his face. Kai blinked at him as he slid onto his lap, straddling Kai's waist and nudging Kai's nose with his own. Tyson raised his hands to slip his fingers into Kai's hair. "Wanna make out?"
"You're crazy." Kai sighed. "You won't risk anyone seeing our bit-beasts, but you'll risk someone seeing us making out on a picnic table like a couple of horny teenagers." He gripped Tyson's upper legs.
"News flash, Kai. We are a couple of horny teenagers." Tyson grinned, rubbing his nose against Kai's in an Eskimo kiss.
Kai pretended to think about that for a moment. "Good point." He finally said, raising his mouth to Tyson's.
Their lips met softly, a simple sweet kiss. Tyson increased the pressure just a little, nibbling on Kai's bottom lip and licking at the corner of Kai's mouth.
"Mmm…Ty…" Kai moaned a little, incredible hints of pleasure sparking through him. He moved his hands from Tyson's legs to his hips, pulling him closer. "More…"
"Greedy aren't you?" Tyson whispered against his lips.
"Ty…we got interrupted this morning and we can't finish that here." Kai traced circles with his fingers on his lover's hips and tucked his face in the crook of Tyson's neck, inhaling deeply and shivering as the familiar scent of ozone and Tyson filled his nostrils. "You smell so good."
Smiling in contentment, Tyson massaged the back of Kai's neck and nuzzled his hair. "Well, we'd best not make out, then. I don't know that I could stop…" He felt Kai smile against his neck and his arms band around his waist tightly. "How about we just cuddle for a while instead?"
"That's what we're doing." Kai sighed and rested his cheek on Tyson's shoulder, face turned into his lover's neck. "This is nice."
"Hmm…"
"You're not falling asleep on me, are you?"
"No. I'm just happy." Tyson absently twirled a lock of Kai's hair around a finger.
"So am I."
They stayed like that for a while, perfectly content to just remain close and attached to one another. Eventually, Kai raised his head and kissed Tyson lingeringly.
"Have I mentioned how much I love you yet today?" He asked, staring into Tyson's midnight blue eyes.
"You just did, lover." Tyson winked at him. "I love you too." They both glanced down as Tyson's stomach growled.
Kai rolled his eyes and reluctantly let him go when Tyson got off his lap and went into his bag to get his lunch. Moments later the roof door opened and students poured out, spreading around the roof for lunch.
Rei, Max, and Kenny arrived and took their usual seats, and the team discussed the events of the weekend. Kenny presented the data he'd collected and it proved everything they had already figured out, so far.
"Hey! Where's Wyatt?" Max looked around.
Rei pointed to a table on the other end of the roof. "He's over there with the other new kid, Zeo."
Kenny frowned. "I wonder why he didn't sit with us today?"
Tyson yelped when Kai smacked the hand he'd reached out with to steal a cookie.
"I think he's still freaked about Ty's little fit of jealousy." Kai smacked his hand again. "Tyson! Get your own!"
"I had some! I ate them! I'm still hungry!"
"Too bad! Start packing bigger lunches!"
Rei looked down at the table, avoiding looking at anyone. "About that…I'm sorry, guys. I've been acting stupid and jealous when I have no right to be." He looked up briefly. "You were meant for each other and I know that. I accept that. I'm happy for you both. I want you to know that." He heard an approving purr in his mind and mentally stuck out his tongue at the tiger. {Let it lie, Driger.} He cautioned. {Just let it lie.}
He didn't see Max's quick glance of astonishment or the relief and spark of hope flare in the blonde's blue eyes.
Kai did. He smiled at Rei and nodded his acceptance. Rei smiled back and yelped in surprise when he was glomped from behind by Tyson.
"I'm sorry too, Rei!" Tyson hugged the startled neko-jin. Rei sighed and hugged back briefly.
"It's okay, Tyson. I can't blame you, after all." He gently shoved Tyson back around the table. "Get back over there. Kai might get lonely."
Tyson grinned and looked at Kai inquiringly. "Are you?"
Wincing, Kai tried to glare but ended up closing his eyes in resignation. He'd seen the mischievous, wicked glint in Tyson's eyes, which meant he was about to be embarrassed. "Either way I answer you'll do something embarrassing to me so just do it and get it over with."
"Aw…" Tyson sat back down on the bench next to his mate, straddling the bench seat. He crooked a finger at Kai to come closer. "In that case, I think this place could use some livening up. Wanna give everyone something to talk about?"
Kai smirked and raised his eyebrow. "What'd you have in mind?"
"Uh…guys?" Kenny cleared his throat. "I know you won't listen to a word I say, but just so someone says it, don't do anything stupid. It would be very bad if you got detention or worse, suspensions, so close to the party this weekend."
"Don't worry, Chief." Tyson cupped Kai's face in one hand, staring into Kai's crimson eyes as he spoke. "We won't." With that, he captured the Phoenix's mouth in a heart-stopping, passionate kiss.
That of course got everyone's attention. Kenny groaned and buried his head in his arms on the table. Max and Rei goggled at their teammates for a moment, then began laughing, watching with interest as Tyson and Kai forgot where they were and wrapped arms around each other. Tyson pushed his boyfriend back until Kai lay along the bench seat and Tyson lay atop Kai, still kissing hungrily.
Max clutched at his sides, he was laughing so hard, when a moan that sounded suspiciously like Kai floated up from the other side of the picnic table. Rei grinned, flashing fang, and leaned over the table to tap Tyson on the shoulder.
"Guys, I think you can safely say 'mission accomplished.' Come up for air, at least!" Rei told them.
Tyson barely heard him. When the words penetrated his fogged mind, he broke the kiss and slid off Kai to sit up again, eyes sparkling and face flushed. He held out a hand to Kai and he took it, breathing in soft pants and as flushed as Tyson was. Tyson pulled him to a sitting position and they grinned at each other as one person started clapping, then another, and another, until everyone on the roof was clapping and cheering the school's newest couple.
After the excitement died down, Rei shook his head with a rueful grin.
"What Rei?" Max asked.
"Oh…just that I think it's a good thing I wasn't as in love with these two as I thought." He sighed dramatically. "No way I could compete with that." He laughed when Kai and Tyson blushed deeply.
Kenny finally looked up from his arms. "Is it safe to look now? No one's in trouble?"
Max patted his shoulder. "It's all good, Chief."
Tyson grabbed his backpack and stood up. "Let's get going, guys. Don't want to be late for class."
Kai picked up his stuff, too, and followed Tyson to the door, Rei and Kenny right behind them. Max yawned and stretched out on the picnic table for a while since he had a spare.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They stood outside the dojo staring at the door. Tyson took Kai's hand in his and squeezed reassuringly. "It'll be okay, love. You'll see."
"I don't know why I'm freaking out over this." Kai said, not realizing he was clutching at Tyson's hand. "He's not my grandfather."
"But he is mine. And Kai - you have to admit it - Gramps has become as much yours as he is mine. He's given you everything that Voltaire didn't."
"Yeah." Kai took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Okay. Let's just go in and do this."
They went in together, Kai still clutching Tyson's hand. As they were taking off their shoes, Gramps appeared out of nowhere, pouncing with his wooden training lance and yelling, "Incoming!"
Tyson and Kai rolled to the side and blinked at the old man. "Grandpa! That's becoming too predictable! Can't you find some other way of 'surprising' me?" Tyson groaned and both teens stood, heading into the dojo. Gramps followed, chuckling because the two had automatically reached for each other's hands, their fingers linking together.
"So homeboys, what did you do this weekend?" Gramps inquired, taking a seat on the floor and laying his training lance across his lap.
"Where to start?" Tyson wondered, tapping a finger on his cheek in thought. "Well, Kai and I started going out on Friday, I talked to Dragoon, then I helped the others learn how to talk to their bit-beasts, and…"
Gramps held up a hand to cut him off. "One thing at a time, T-man! Start with the 'Kai and I started going out' part." He frowned a little when the Phoenix paled and looked a little panicky, scooting closer to Tyson.
Tyson's arm came up to wrap itself around Kai's waist protectively and he glowered at his grandfather. "What did you not get in that statement?"
Gramps chuckled. "Little dude, don't get bent out of shape! I was just wondering what took you both so long. Details! And why Friday?"
"You mean…you aren't mad?" Kai asked, surprised and looking as if he was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
"Mad? Why would I be mad?" The old man stared at him. Then an expression of understanding crossed his face. "Oh! I see! You thought I'd freak out over you and the little dude, here, being together!" Gramps smacked the floor with his training lance and Kai barely managed to keep from jumping into Tyson's lap. "Well, worry no more! I've known you two were more than just homeboys for a long, long time."
Kai closed his eyes in relief, sagging a bit and leaning into Tyson.
"Wait a minute." Tyson scowled at the old man. "What do you mean, 'you knew'?"
"Your grand-pappy knows a lot of things, Tyson my man. I think if you ask your team, they'll tell you they knew a long time ago, too." Gramps looked at Kai. "And by the way, you can always count on your main squeeze, here, to be there and protect you, Kai." He suddenly became very serious and wise. "Even leaders and captains need someone to watch their backs on occasion. And Tyson'll always have your back." Then he gave his grandson a hard look. "As for you, T-man, you'd better treat your boyfriend right and take good care of him, know what I mean?"
Tyson sighed and nodded, pulling Kai as close as he could and replying, "That's what I plan on doing, Gramps."
Nodding once in satisfaction, Gramps put down his training lance again. "Good. Now that that's settled, move on to the next thing you did."
Tyson took Kai's hand and gripped it tightly. "Well, it all started with a dream…"
The two teens told him the entire story. Gramps listened intently, not interrupting. When they'd finished, Tyson and Kai exchanged looks before taking out their blades from their pockets.
{Dragoon? Would you like to meet my grandfather?} Tyson inquired.
{Certainly, Tyson.} Dragoon answered eagerly. {I would like that very much.}
{Okay. I'll call you in a minute.}
Kai asked his Phoenixes the same question. Dranzer was very willing. Drisana, however, was a little unsure.
{Are you sure it is wise for me to appear, Master Kai? I do not know this old man…}
{I'm sure, Drisana.} Kai paused. {I trust him. Please?}
Drisana was silent for a moment, then replied, "As you wish, Master. If you trust him, then I can do no less.}
{Thank you. I'll call in a moment.} Kai told them.
"What's wrong, love?" Tyson asked.
"Drisana is wary of people she doesn't know. She's a little shy." Kai held out his beyblade to show Gramps the images of both Phoenixes imprinted on his bit-piece.
"Hmm…I see." Gramps handed it back. "And you say that she's really Dranzer's little sis?"
"Yes."
"Well, then! Bring out your special friends, my homies!"
Tyson and Kai launched their blades and called to their Sacred Spirits.
"Dragoon!"
"Dranzer! Drisana!"
Unlike the first time they'd taken physical form, the bit-beasts did not need to pass through their human companions before becoming solid. They just appeared.
Dragoon curled around Tyson's body, his head resting on one shoulder and his tail wrapping securely around his waist.
Dranzer and Drisana circled Kai in greeting, gently brushing soft feathers against his cheeks as they landed on his shoulders. Kai rubbed their heads fondly and sat once again, his blade spinning happily by his knee.
Tyson sat next to Kai and ran a hand of Dragoon's coiled tail, petting him. The dragon purred and nuzzled his neck in contentment. "Boy, Dragoon! Who needs a cat when you can have a dragon?"
Dragoon rubbed his cheek against his human's and replied, //You don't. Introduce us, Tyson.//
Gramps bowed at the waist to the ancient dragon. "It is a great honor to meet my family's guardian Spirit." He bowed again to Dranzer and Drisana. "And also to meet you, Dranzer and Drisana. Welcome to my dojo."
//We thank you, wise Elder.// Dranzer spoke up. Drisana bobbed her head at him.
"Um…Gramps? There's one thing we haven't mentioned yet…" Tyson shifted anxiously. "When our bit-beasts took physical form the first time, and they had to pass through us to do it, they left a mark."
"What sort of mark, little dude?" Gramps inquired, suspicious of Tyson's tone.
"Show him yours first, Kai. Maybe he won't freak out as badly over mine…"
Kai sighed and sat up straight, lifting his shirt to reveal the tattoos of Dranzer and Drisana.
"Cool!" Gramps studied them. "Very wicked!" He looked at Tyson. "There's nothing wrong with tattoos, little T-man!"
Dragoon slithered off Tyson and curled up on Kai's lap with another purr, much to Kai's surprise. Tyson stood and drew his shirt off over his head.
"You may not be so enthusiastic when you see mine, Grandpa." Tyson closed his eyes and turned around, showing his grandfather the elaborate and very realistic likeness of Dragoon etched across his back and disappearing under his waistband.
"Holy…" Gramps stared at the teen's back, awed. "That's one fine piece of art."
Tyson turned back around and sat, putting his shirt back on. Dragoon returned to him, draping himself over Tyson's lap and lashing his tail lazily, almost like a cat.
"You and your peeps have to be real careful and on your guard." Gramps warned them, standing up. "If those dreams of yours, Kai, are really flashes of a possible future, you need to be careful."
//And we will help also.// Dragoon promised. Dranzer and Drisana squawked in agreement.
"Alrighty then! Let's get some chow, homies!" Gramps headed for the kitchen.

Kali: >_< Okay. I know.
Dryad: Sheesh…
Kai: Kali talks too much! smirks.
Tyson: Aww…leave her be. This had to happen, after all.
Kali: Exactly! Thank you, Tyson.
Dryad: sighs. Next update coming soon! R/R!
