Kai: Anyone does that again and they'll have to face Tyson and I in a Beybattle.
Tyson: eagerly. I'm in the mood to demolish something. Let's go train, Kai! grabs Kai and runs away.
Kali & Dryad: o_O;; Tyson wants to train?!
*momentary pause of stunned silence*
Kali: Okay…who'd have thunk it?
Dryad: Let's just write this, shall we?
Kali: Yeah. I don't own Beyblade, so don't sue.

Chapter 14
*************************************
Kai stood in front of the bathroom mirror and was about to put on his shark fins when he noticed Tyson watching him.
"What?" He asked.
"I was just thinking…"
"You? Don't hurt yourself, Ty."
"Ha. Ha. Ha." Tyson scowled. "Funny."
"Sorry. Couldn't help it."
"As I was saying, I was thinking that you should try not wearing the face paint for once."
Kai's hand hovered over his makeup. "Not wear it? Tyson…I don't think I can do that." He did look a little nervous about that suggestion. Tyson sighed and came up behind him, wrapping comforting arms around his waist and resting his chin on Kai's shoulder, meeting his crimson eyes in the mirror.
"I know, love. You've opened up so much since the Worlds, Kai. I understand why you wear the paint. But you don't have to wear it all the time anymore." He gave his lover a teasing grin. "Everyone knows you're a bad ass, Kai. We aren't going to forget that just because you're not wearing those triangles of yours."
Kai smiled slightly. "Maybe." He leaned back against his Dragon and laid his arms over Tyson's, holding him. "I just…they're a part of me."
Tyson kissed his cheek. "Yeah. I get that, too. How about this? Don't put them on until we go meet everyone else later. Leave them off when it's just me and the team."
He thought about it for a moment. "Okay." He finally agreed. "If it's that important to you, then I will."
Tyson smiled and turned him around, kissing him softly for a few moments then taking one of Kai's hands and twining their fingers together.
"Let's go eat. Kenny said he was ordering room service, right?"
"Yes." Kai let him pull him out the door and down the short hallway to the sitting room.
"Morning guys!" Tyson greeted their team, who were already digging into their brunch.
"Hey, Tyson!" Max smiled at him and Kai. "Hey, Kai!" The blonde blinked at their captain for a second. "Wow, Kai…you look different."
Kai automatically scowled and went to turn around and go back for his face paint, but Tyson grabbed him and gently but firmly pushed him down onto the empty chair. "Ah ah! No you don't! Sit."
Rei, sitting next to Max on the couch, studied Kai for a moment, chewing thoughtfully and swallowing before commenting, "I like it."
Kenny adjusted his glasses. "So do I. It's a bit of a shock, but it suits you, Kai."
Kai stared at them silently, a faint blush spreading over his cheeks. Tyson grinned and handed him a plate of food.
"See? Told you it wouldn't be so bad."
Kai said nothing and started eating instead while Tyson sat on the floor in front of him and dug into his own plate.
"How did you convince him to not wear the face paint?" Kenny inquired of Tyson.
"I thought they were tattoos." Max informed them, innocently.
Kai sunk further into his seat, avoiding everyone's scrutiny.
"I didn't do anything, really, Chief. All I did was ask." Tyson finished one plate and loaded up for seconds. "I made a suggestion, Kai thought about it, end of story."
They finished eating, Kai doing his best to ignore his team's occasional curious glances. They cleaned up the mess and got all their stuff, heading for the lobby to check out and load their bags into the BBA van that would take them back to the dojo later.
Kai had stubbornly put on his shark fins before they left the suite, though. But, deciding on a change, made them crimson instead of blue, like the ones he'd worn to the party.
The five teens trooped down to the beach where they met the other teams - who were already into battles themselves.
Tyson rubbed his hands together gleefully. "Alright! Let me at it!"
"Whoa!" Kai hooked an arm around his waist and hauled him back when he nearly jumped into the battle between Lee and Michael. "Geez, Tyson! You know better than to jump into the middle of a battle uninvited!"
"But I wanna battle!" Tyson sighed, pouting a little and leaning into his lover, who laughed and nuzzled his neck affectionately, not removing his arm.
"No patience." He whispered in Tyson's ear.
Tyson just smiled, laying his arm over Kai's. "Of course not." He whispered back.
Rei and Max came up beside them, Rei's arm slung casually around Max's waist. They both shook their heads at their teammates. "Lovebirds." Max commented.
"Aren't they sweet?" Rei added.
Kenny smothered a laugh and Dizzi spoke up from his laptop. "Oh, like you two are any better."
The Chief and his bit-beast got four glares.
Tala sauntered over, Bryan at his side. "Ah. I see. So that's what all the excitement was about."
Bryan eyed Rei and Max with interest. "I think Ian owes me $20."
"Spencer owes me $50." Tala's smile was wicked.
"Do you mind?" Rei growled, acidly. "Why don't you go pick on someone else?"
"Better yet…" Kai studied Tala. "Put your blade where your mouth is."
Tala folded his arms over his chest. "Is that a challenge, Hiwatari?"
"From Kai? No." Tyson smiled at the red-haired captain's raised eyebrow. "From me? Yes."
All battles and conversations came to a silent and abrupt halt. A Beyblade match between Tala and Tyson was always worth watching.
"Hmm…" The Demolition Boys' captain thought it over. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt. I had hoped to challenge myself a little and take you on, Kai."
Tyson glared, his temper flaring. "Are you saying I'm not enough of a challenge for you?"
Kai winced. "Easy, love. I don't think he meant it that way." He glanced uneasily at the sky, checking for grey storm clouds when he felt static in the air.
Tyson nudged him. "Quit worrying. I've got full control of my temper - this time."
"Just checking."
The other teams were giving them strange looks, since they had no idea what either blader was talking about.
Tyson patted Kai's arm and moved away, taking out his blade and launcher from the belt at his back under this jacket, and setting the blade to the launcher. "So let's do this thing, Tala." He took up his launching stance.
Tala set his own blade to his launcher and mirrored his opponent.
Kai stepped between them off to the side and folded his arms over his chest. "Ready? 3…2…1…"
"Let it rip!" Tala and Tyson chorused, launching simultaneously.
Wolborg and Dragoon clashed midair, already grinding away at one another before hitting the sand, sparks flying everywhere.
"Give it up, Tyson! You can't hope to beat me like that!" Tala kept up his assault.
Tyson frowned in concentration, pulling away a little and circling Wolborg looking for an opening.
"Tyson, quit playing around." Kai yawned. "Finish him off."
The Dragon spared him a glare. "Why? I'm having fun here!"
Kai rolled his eyes. "I'm not. We should be getting home and doing our homework."
"You're reverting, love."
"Tyson…"
"Wet blanket."
"Shrimp."
"Jerk."
"Moron."
"Do you mind?" Tala interjected. "Tyson, are you going to battle or are you going to flirt all day?"
Tyson stuck out his tongue at Kai and turned his attention back to the battle as Kai laughed in delight. "Don't do that unless you're planning to use it!"
Tyson turned red and stared hard at his blade. "Shut up, Hiwatari, or I will."
There was a lot of chuckling and laughing around them until Kai gave them all a cool stare.
The battle raged on, neither blader willing to concede defeat. Finally, though, Tyson had had enough.
"Dragoon! Finish it!" He called out his bit-beast. "Storm Attack!"
"Wolborg! Counter!"
The great storm dragon was too much for Tala and his wolf, however, and Wolborg spun to a halt, kicking up sand in all directions.
Tyson's team cheered (except Kai) behind him and he held out his hand, calling his blade home. Tala knelt and picked up Wolborg, then stood extending his hand to shake Tyson's.
They shook and Tala stared into Tyson's eyes, which had gone a stormy grey-blue, for a moment.
"There's something different about you." Tala said, almost to himself. "I can feel it."
Emily, sitting beside Kenny on the warm sand, spoke up. "You're right, Tala. I noticed it, too."
Kai watched Tyson tuck his blade and launcher away, fighting off the strong compulsion to throw himself into Tyson's arms and let his lover surround him and…
Tyson glanced over, feeling an insistent tug on him. His eyes met Kai's and he smiled, seeing those eyes flare. He recognized that flame and felt an answering wave of heat pour through him.
Kenny closed Dizzi and stood up. "It's a long story, Emily, but they really haven't changed much."
"So who's up next?" Rei asked. "Anybody want to take on Driger?"
"Or maybe me and Draciel?" Max pulled out his blade and launcher.
Before anyone could accept, an unfamiliar, emotionless voice spoke up. "I will battle you, Guardian of Water."
Everyone spun to see who had spoken. Max frowned, watching as the figure of a cloaked person came forward. He felt Draciel's sudden concern.
{Draciel?}
{Be careful, Max. I don't like what I sense from that cloaked person.}
Draciel wasn't the only one. Driger growled a warning to Rei. {Stay alert, Kitten. Something is very wrong here.}
{I know. I can see that.} Rei moved up next to Max. {Driger, I can't hear a heartbeat from that…person.}
Tyson moved up to Max's other side, Kai right behind him. {Dragoon…what's up with this guy? Why is he all grey like that? It's like I'm watching a black and white movie on TV.}
{I'm not sure, Tyson. Keep an eye on him. He doesn't seem human to me.}
{Not human?} Tyson frowned, laying a hand on Max's shoulder.
Kai, too, had come to the same conclusion. {I sense…nothing from this guy, Dranzer. No life, no emotion, nothing. Drisana, is this the evil you warned me of?}
{I believe so, Master Kai. Or at least, a part of it.} He felt her shiver. {Please be cautious.}
{Do not worry, little sister. We will be careful.} Dranzer reassured her.
"Well? Do you accept?" The cloaked figure asked.
"I don't know who you are, dude." Johnny gave him a disdainful glare. "But this is a private gathering. You can not just come here and challenge one of us like that."
The figure didn't even look at him. "You speak of things you know nothing of. You are of no consequence to me or my mission." He held out his blade towards Max. "My Master sent me to destroy you and capture the Elemental of Water. Will you battle me, sprite?"
"Why should I?" Max shook his head. "I have no reason to fight you. Draciel is mine and we are partners."
"Wait, Max." Kai said, slowly. "I think you should battle him."
Tyson looked at him. "Kai?"
"I think this battled is inevitable. Even if you don't fight him now, you will eventually and at least here we are prepared and in control."
Kenny nodded. "He's right, Max. Dizzi's readings are under analysis and so far things are in our favour. I think this is a test of some kind."
"I don't like it." Rei's golden eyes narrowed.
Tyson and Kai pulled him back to give Max room. "I know, Rei. We don't either." Tyson eyed the freaky blader. "I feel a strong power coming from that guy and it gives me the willies."
"Yes. But I think Max can take him." Kai met Max's gaze and nodded. "You are Water. Show him what happens when someone dares to challenge the Elements, Max."
Max took up his stance. "As my team captain commands." He replied, flippantly.
"Smart ass." Kai grinned.
"Uh…Kai? Mind sharing what's in your mind?" Tyson muttered to him. "How can you be so sure about this?"
"I'm not. All I have is a feeling." Kai crossed his arms over his chest. "I've learned to trust my instincts, lover."
Tyson nodded. "Good enough for me."
"Not me." Rei shivered. "Damn it! That's not either of you out there! It's Max!"
Kenny laid a hand on Rei's arm. "Rei, of us all, you are the one that must believe in him. You and Max are mates. My research has shown that there is a connection between you and it could mean something more."
Rei shifted restlessly. "I know, Chief. I just…I'm worried about him. You can't blame me for it."
{Indeed, Kitten.} Driger answered, his voice low and soothing. {But they are correct. Max needs you. Your love will make him strong, and your faith in him will protect him.}
"Rei?" Max was looking at him now. "If you don't want me to, I won't battle him."
Rei struggled with himself for a moment, his instinctive need to protect his mate losing to his sense of reason. "Do it, Max. Take him out."
Max smiled and turned back to his opponent.
"You heard them. Let's go."

Kali: I know it's short. But I'm busy these days and I'm still trying to work out a few things.
Dryad: More to come next week!
Kai: Finally. The antagonist makes an appearance.
Tyson: Cool! R/R!
