Jiana: She doesn't own Beyblade or anything related to it, just her storys and plot lines, as insane as they may be.
Meetings and other nasty goings on
Takao sat at her desk, staring into space and doodling on her new work book. It was the new school year after the long summer and she hated it. The only thing that kept her there was the fact that none of her friends wanted to leave. But of course, being in 11th Grade meant that she couldn't leave anyway. Stupid laws.
"Attention class 11b," the teacher shouted from her desk at the front of the room.
Takao sighed. 'Always with the shouting' she thought. 'Why can't teacher's just let us be ourselves instead of trying to get us to obey orders? Its bad enough they make us wear these ridiculous uniforms' she mused as she looked down at the offending articles of clothing. Her shirt was the palest blue with the schools emblem on the pocket. Her tie was a deep midnight blue that matched both her skirt and her long hair. The skirt of course was far to short for her liking though Maxine and Chief loved them. Kayla couldn't care less what she wore, really, just so long as it made her over-protective brother annoyed.
Takao's eyes fixed on the teacher and she watched absentmindedly as she brought out a ruler from her desk, lifted it, then brought it sharply down on the hard wooden tabletop. The resounding snap made everyone take their seats and pay attention. The teacher smirked.
"Now then. I'm Mrs Reid and I'm your new form tutor. You will report to me everyday before classes begin to have your name marked off on the register. Is that understood?"
"Of course its understood. We've been in school for eleven years," Kayla responded in an undertone. Takao tryed her best to stiffle her giggles as Mrs Reid narrowed her eyes at them.
And so the rest of the day wore on, with each student recieving new text books, jotters and anything else from their new teachers, as well as a 'Welcome to this class, don't behave like a total prat' lecture from each. Needless to say, it was five very tired and disgruntled girls that met up at their lockers after the last bell had rang.
"Can you believe it?" Takao moaned, slamming her locker closed and shouldering her backpack. "First day back and that bitch they've got teaching me chemistry issued us homework! Two pages on the basic elements and the periodic table! It'll take me all night to find that stuff on the net!"
"You mean Mrs Kirkwood?" Maxine asked.
"Yeah. How did you know?"
"I got her for science. She gave us homework as well. I have no idea where to start," Maxine said glumly.
"Well isn't it lucky for you that you have a computer whizz and a girl who's brother past at the top of his chemistry class as friends?" Kayla cut in, smirking at the two dumbstruck girls infront of her.
"You mean you'll help us?" Maxine asked, her saphire eyes lighting up with hope.
"Sure. Just come over to my house tonight and we'll get the homework finished with plenty of time left," Kayla laughed at the joy the shone in the blonde girls eyes.
They set off from the school, glad that the first day back was over. It would all get smoother after this. First day was always the toughest. Luckily for them, Kayla didn't live to far and within ten minutes they were turning into her street. They could see Kai training in the front yard but their attention was pulled to the large moving truck that was across the street from Kayla's house. Across the white sign out front was a red sticker bearing the word 'SOLD' in white capitals.
"So someone finaly bought that old place huh?" Takao asked no one in particular. They stopped in Kaylas' garden and turned to watch the unpacking, sitting on the soft grass near Kai.
"Don't you girls have anything better to do than be nosy?" he asked quietly, eyeing with distaste what his younger sister was wearing.
"Not really dear brother," Kayla said with a smirk. She loved driving him mad.
Turning back to the van, she watched as a dark blue car pulled up in the driveway, followed by a sleek black car which pulled up beside it. From the blue emerged two adults, one male one female, and from the black's driver's side emerged a girl with long raven hair, pulled back from her face in a long braid, bangs held in place with a red bandana. What amazed the group of friends was that this girl looked to be about their age. But they weren't old enough to drive yet. How did this girl get a license, let alone a car. They watched as the apparent family entered the house, the girl trailing some distance behind her parents.
Kayla turned to look at her brother, and noticed with a grin that he had stopped to watch this girl also. As soon as the door closed behind her, Kai snapped out of his trance.
"Don't you have anything better to do than to be nosy Kai?" Kayla asked.
Kai glared at her before picking up his towel and stalking into the house.
"Well, come on then guys. I don't think much else is going to happen out here, so lets go inside, grab some snacks and get started on that homework?" Kayla said to the others, who nodded in agreement.
Standing, they cast one last look at the house before entering the cool hall of the Hiwatari home.
"Watch where you're going," he growled, knowing full well that it was his falt they had collided. He brought his hand up to his head to make sure he wasn't bleeding, eyeing the other as he stood. His eyes widened when he recognised the body lying on the ground.
'Is that the girl from yesterday?' he asked himself, watching as she frowned in pain. 'She didn't hit the ground that hard did she?'
"I'm sorry," he said, bending and slipping an arm around her to pull her up. She hissed in pain. 'What's wrong with her?' He pushed his hand lightly against her back. She hissed again, but remained frozen. As carefully as he dared, Kai lifted the hem of her hoody and T-shirt up, and gasped at what he saw there.
Brusies and scars decorated the tan skin of her back in shades of blue, purple and black. One scar had reopened, it was new and was obviously the one causing her pain.
"I'm Rei, by the way."
"Huh?" Kai looked back at her face, frowning slightly when he saw that her eyes were now closed.
"Well, you just saw something that even my friends at my old house didn't know about. I thought you should at least know my name." She opened her eyes and Kai's mouth opened in a silent gasp of shock. The deep amber orbs looked dead. There was no life, no light, in them. "You were the guy who was watching me from across the street yesterday, weren't you? Your sister and her friends were there."
Kai smiled sheepishly. "Yeah. I'm Kai Hiwatari, and that was my sister, Kayla. Sorry for staring."
"I'm used to guys staring," Rei said, shrugging her shoulders and starting to walk again. A few feet away, she turned back to Kai and motioned for him to follow. He hurried forward.
"Don't your parents do anything about whoever's doing that to you?" Kai said, indicating towards her back.
Rei laughed, but it was a humourless tone. "They're not my parents."
Kai frowned. "Then who are they?"
"They're my foster parents. My parents died when I was young, and I was put up for adoption, but some bad stuff happened when I was with my adoptive father. He was doing something illegal and was thrown in jail. I was put into a foster home, but they're no differet from him," Rei said, staring hard at the lightening ground before them. She turned to Kai. "You can't tell anyone about this."
"But..."
"No. You just can't."
Kai glared at her. "You'll be in the same class as my sister when you get into school, and when that happens..."
"Today."
Kai paused. "What do you mean 'today'?" he asked.
"I mean, I'll be going to school today, and I'll no doubt see your sister later." Rei turned her gold eyes to Kai again.
"Whatever, but I need her to know that she might be in danger if she becomes your friend."
Rei stopped. "You actually think that I would let another person be hurt by that bastered they've put me with?" she asked, her voice dangerously low.
"I don't even know you," Kai yelled. He sighed and wispered. "I've worked so hard to protect her from everything. I don't want her to be in any danger."
Rei stopped walking. They hadn't noticed it, but their path had led them back to their street and they were standing outside Rei's house.
"Kai, even if your sister never came in contact with me, there would be a chance that she would be in danger. But if I can keep an eye on her, then I might be able to help you and keep her safe."
Kai smiled slightly, and before Rei knew what he done, he had enveloped her in a tight hug.
"Thank you, Rei. Thank you," he wispered, eyes clenched shut. Rei stared over his shoulder in shock, not knowing what to do. Unconciously, she brought her arms up and wraped them around the taller teen, leaning her head against his shoulder. She felt kinda comforted in his arms. When he let go he was still smiling. "I'll see you later in school then."
"Yeah," Rei said, mind still reeling from what had happened. She watched as Kai crossed the street and entered his house. Standing there a while longer, she glanced at her watch and sighed. She was late. Aaron was not going to be pleased.
The classes heads turned in unisen towards the door as it opened and a raven-haired girl walked through it. She looked normal enough, except from the dark sunglasses she wore. The girl stopped in front of the class beside the teacher.
"Class, this is Rei Kon. She just moved in from France with her parents."
"Foster parents."
Mrs Reid stared at the girl. "Excuse me?"
"They're not my parents. They're my foster parents," Rei told her, staring levely at her through the dark glass.
"Well I'm sorry for geting that wrong, but you will not speak back to me or interupt me again. Now take a seat."
Rei walked to an empty seat at the back of the class, muttering, "Whatever."
She sat down and glanced at the girl next to her. She had long midnight blue hair that matched her tie and skirt, and complimented the blue shirt that she wore. 'At least the uniform looks alright on her,' Rei thought, looking down at the clothes she wore. Her foster parents had enlisted her in this school a week before they had moved, and the new uniform had been sent to the new address the day before. She had hated putting the skirt on, it showed the long scars on her legs, but thankfully no one had noticed when she walked past. She turned to her right and looked over the girl there. She was a tanned blonde, probably from America and she looked very hyperactive, if the way she was bouncing slightly in her seat. Rei smiled slightly when the blonde turned in her direction. She could also feel the eyes of the girl to her left on her.
"Take off those glasses, Kon. You can't wear them in school," Mrs Reid called from the front.
Rei sighed and closed her eyes, reaching up and pulled the glasses from her face. All around her she heard soft gasps as the large bruise that covered her left eye was revealed. She had been right in asuming that Aaron would be angry. As soon as she had entered, the man had hit her, yelling and accusing her of 'flirting' with Kai. Of course she had denied it and that had only made him angrier. She was very glad of the lock she had installed on her door the night before.
"Hey."
Rei opened her eyes and turned to the girl on her left. "Yeah?"
The girl smiled. "I'm Takao Kinomiya. Welcome to our school."
"Thanks."
"If you want, I could show you about. Lets see your time-table." Rei pased her the slip of paper. "Great, you'll be in most of my classes. And for some of these," she pointed out some classes, "you'll be in with Kayla. That's her over..."
"Kai's little sister," Rei cut in, looking over to the slate and blue haired girl who was turned in her seat talking to a smaller brunet.
Takao looked phased. "Uh, yeah. How did you know that?"
"I was talking to him this morning. They live just across the street. I saw you all yesterday." Rei turned back to Takao. "Look, about the bruises..."
"It's alright. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but if I get the chance to become a close friend of your's, I'd hope to be trusted enough to know. It can be hard moving. Especially all the way from France. By the way you don't look very French," Takao said very quickly. It had sounded strung together, but Rei understood.
"That's because I'm Chinese. Like I said to her," she jerked her head towards the teacher, "I live with my foster parents."
"What happened to your real parents?" Takao asked tentitivly.
"They died," was Rei's simple reply.
Just then, the bell sounded for first period. Takao led Rei towards Chemistry, then in second period, to Math. In both classes, Rei recieved her books and the same little speach that the others had recieved the day before, but she kept getting strange looks from Mr Mullen, the Maths teacher. Takao brushed it off, thinking it was because of her new friends black eye, but Rei knew what he wanted. The same as every man before him had wanted.
At break, Rei followed Takao to her locker to meet her friends.
"Hey," they said to the blue haired teen, eyeing the raven haired uneasily.
Takao caught the looks and slamed her locker door. "Look you guys, I don't know why you're acting wierd. You all saw Rei in tutor and..." She trailed off, staring at someone over Rei's shoulder. "JAN!!!"
Rei stepped out of the way just in time as Takao took off past her. She jumped into the arms of a tall blonde guy, who swung her around before placing her on the ground and kissing her soundly. Rei turned to the other girls.
"That's Takao's boyfriend Jan Bennot. He's in Kai's year and hangs around with us sometimes," Kayla explained. Theyy all turned quickly at the sound of a resounding slap. Jan stood beside the smaller Takao, holding his cheek that was turning an angry red.
"What was that for?" he asked.
"Where the hell have you been?" Takao shouted at him, fists resting on her hips.
"I'm sorry, but ma folks took me on holiday and they wouldn't let me call you," Jan said as he wraped his arms around Takao, wispering in her ear and making her giggle.
"Well then, that's okay. Sorry for slapping you. Jan, this is Rei Kon. She just moved here," Takao told him as she turned and indicated the girl who was now watching Kai come towards them.
"Hey there," Jan said, smiling and holding out his hand. Rei shook it, eyes still watching Kia curiously.
"Are you guys just gonna stand here yapping all day or are we going outside?" Kai asked, glaring at his sisters skirt. He was sure that it had shrunk at least three sizes since the night before. Kayla just grinned at him.
"Hey there Kai. This is..."
"Rei. I met her earlier," Kai told her, looking at Rei, taking in her new bruise as they headed outside, Takao still glued to Jan's side. They sat under a cherry tree. Kai and Rei sat a little further away from everyone else.
"Rei who did that to you? Was it someone in here?" Kai asked.
"No." Rei glanced up at him from the grass, where she had been lying, watching Takao and Jan. "It was Aaron."
Kai shook his head. "Who's..." he trailed off. 'No, it couldn't be, could it?'
"I was put into a foster home, but they're no different from him."
"Your foster-father did this to you?" he asked in an angered wisper.
"So?" Rei asked as she sat up, resting on her elbows. "Why do you care so much?"
"Because I..." Kai stopped. He had no idea why he care what happened to her, why he wanted this Aaron to burn in the deepest fires of hell. "...I don't know," he wispered truthfully.
"Then stop. Or you might get hurt." With that, Rei turned towards the others.
"Do you want to come over for a while, Rei?" Kayla asked.
"Nah. I've got to do some homework and stuff," Rei replyed, smiling slightly. Kai's eye narrowed. They watched as she walked up the short path and through her door.
"There's something strange about her, Kai," Kayla told her brother. But as they turned to cross the street, they heard shouting erupt from the house behind them.
"What the hell were you telling them?" It was a man's voice. 'Aaron,' Kai guessed.
"I didn't say anything, Aaron. I just...Stop it. Let me go!"
Kai and Kayla stood shocked on the pavement as they heard a loud thud. The door was yanked open and they could see a man in his mid thirys laying on the floor, Rei standing in the doorframe.
"Don't touch me," she wispered to him, slamming the door shut behind her. Look ing up, she spotted the two siblings and smiled.
"I think I will come over for a while Kayla, if that's still okay?" she said. They set off. Rei knew that she'd pay for hitting Aaron when she got back, but she could handle that more than him spouting stuff off about her.

The next morning, Kai sat making sure his trainers were tight and wouldn't fall of whilst jogging. He was sat on a bench in the park near the school, getting ready for his usual morning jog. Sitting back, he sighed and stared into the mist. It was quite cold out, but the thought that within an hour the sun would have broken through the cloud and blazing brightly kept the stoic teen from shivering. Standing, he took a deep breath, and ran into someone."Watch where you're going," he growled, knowing full well that it was his falt they had collided.
KHRK
At the end of the day, the group went their seperate ways, Takao, Maxine and Chief turning left and waving their goodbyes to the others. Kai, Kayla and Rei headed right. When the reached Rei's front door they stopped."Do you want to come over for a while, Rei?" Kayla asked.
