Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ In The End ❯ It starts with one thing... ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

DISCLAIMER- I do not own Beyblade or its characters, any unknown characters are probably mine.

Phantom- This is a Tala and Kai fic, this story was highly inspired by my favourite song on Hybrid Theory, In the End. And I believe it is a great story. Oh and on a personal note, this story includes no romance between Tala and Kai.

NB- Thoughts of characters will be inside apostrophes, speech will obviously be inside inverted comma's and flashbacks will be obvious as well, whispers will be in between (*) and dreams will be in between (#). I truly hope you enjoy this story. In this story Tala and Kai are both sixteen, only Kai is older. Also they are not really brothers in the story, but that's how they see eachother. As far as their heights are concerned, Kai is a few short inches taller than Tala, not even noticeable.

IN THE END
CHAPTER 1: It starts with one thing_

Kai rubbed his hands together slightly, just so that he could feel if they were numb, and also because he was nervous. Tala looked at Kai who sat beside him on the roof of Balvoc Abbey. He noticed that Kai was unusually edgy, and this made him edgy as well. Tala let his left leg dangle off the roof edge,
Tala- “Are you okay Kai?”
was all Tala could say to start a conversation. Kai, who had been staring down at nothing, blinked in reply to his friends' question, then he sighed lightly,
Kai- “It depends on your definition of okay…although I'm generally not okay, it may not seem that way to you…”
Tala stared up at the dark blue sky that was partly clouded here and there, small snowflakes landing every now and then. He had the slightest smile on his face,
Tala- “Your babbling Kai, it was a simple question you know.”
Now Kai smiled just as slightly and Tala looked at him again, this time Kai looked directly at Tala, both of their smiles disappearing slowly,
Kai- “Things aren't going well, Boris is still undecided on what he plans to do about the escape, I spoke to him this morning, his convinced that it was our idea, just me and you.
His not even interested in anything else…his just to certain that we are responsible…”
Tala- “What do you think he'll do when he finds out it was us? I mean, the most he could do is the usual, either kick the shit out of us or put us into solitary confinement in one of those little damp rooms he calls the `happy place', I've got used to it by now, and so have you…”
Kai placed his face in his hands and then let out a frustrated growl,
Kai- “That's just it, you have to see the look in his eye's Tala, I swear his gone crazy all together, I don't think his going to beat us or anything else for that matter, its going to be something terrible…something sick.”
Tala didn't take lightly the worried look on Kai's face, he knew that this was something major.
Tala- “Well, there's nothing we can do about it, we just have to hope that we both come out of it alive and…”
Before Tala could finish his sentence Kai was already cussing out loud, it was echoing all the way down the street,
Kai- “You don't realise the seriousness of this do you? Why cant you see that I am being serious Tala, you think it's a joke if one of us comes close to death, its not a joke…I don't think I could stand the sight of any of the teams blood, least of all you…the last time you were…UGH…I could kill Boris, you could have died…it was my fault…”
Kai trailed off into one of the worst memories he had in his mind, a memory that haunted Tala as well, a memory that made Kai too afraid to ever stand up to Boris again…

FLASHBACK…

The Demolition Boys stood in a line at attention to Boris who was lecturing them about their weaknesses. Tala, who was team captain, was getting it the worst,
Boris- “You disgust me Tala, what kind of a team captain are you? Your filth, the dirt underneath my shoe. When I placed you as captain of this team I expected results, not weak launches and amateur blading! Who do you expect to beat with weak attacks like that, a two year old? WELL?”
Tala- “No s..sir..,”
Boris- “Well that's all you'll achieve Tala, weak and pathetic beyblading…” Boris leaned forward until he was just inches from Tala's face,
Boris- * You are a disgrace, and I'm not surprised your mother got rid of you…your just a worthless and weak little bastard child, govno…*
Tala wouldn't dare speak back to Boris, because the consequences would be horrible, but Kai was not the type to just shutup, and so instead of just gritting his teeth like he normally did, he couldn't allow Boris to go on insulting Tala,
Kai- “His not worthless Boris, Tala is a great captain, you're the one who's pathetic, relying on teenagers to do your dirty wo…”
Kai hadn't even raised his voice that much, but Boris found any reason to beat them, he knocked Kai down with punch,
Boris- “So you want to defend Tala do you? I'm afraid that its out of the question little Kai.”
He kicked Kai in his stomach before ordering his men to remove Kai and the others, except Tala. The last thing Kai saw before being dragged away, was a knife that Boris held firmly in his hand, and on his face the most sadistic grin Kai had ever seen. And the last thing Tala remembered was hearing Kai screaming for him, before witnessing his own blood seeping through the cuts in his wrists.
Later that night when he was done with his beating, instead of going back to his room, Kai ran to find Tala, lying on his bed, the sheets soaked in his own blood. Kai fumbled around the room in vain before his own pain took hold of him and he collapsed. The next Kai woke up he was in a hospital room, Tala in the bed beside him. Some how Boris had convinced the hospital that Tala had tried to commit suicide, and that Kai had been in a street fight, and Kai didn't dare go against Boris's words, he was just happy that Tala had lived.
END FLASHBACK…

Tala who had just remembered his near death experience, gritted his teeth,
Tala- “It wasn't your fault Kai…you know that. Stop blaming yourself, because I don't blame you. And I do know how serious this is, I know more than any of you how serious it is to see death right before your face…but the fact remains, we cant change it.”
Kai- “Why don't we at least try Tala…we can't just give up…”
Kai's voice was shaky, almost as though he would break down any minute into tears. But Tala was too angry at what Kai had just said. Tala held his head in his hands and then looked Kai straight in his eye's, Tala barely containing his own tears,
Tala- “I don't ever want to hear you talk that way, I will not allow you to risk your life for me again Kai, I cant live without you, I need my big brother…if you die trying to save me, do you think I could live with that, I wish you'd stop trying to be so goddamn strong for me all the time…why?”
Tala stood up and ran along the roof edge before jumping down and landing on the ground below without so much as a sound. Kai had stood up when Tala started to run, and he watched as Tala ran into the Abbey. Kai stood alone, the cold wind burning his pale skin, his nose bright red. He didn't know what to do, he wanted to protect his little brother, but how could he without causing him pain.
