CHAPTER 5: The end of the day_

Tala had only just fallen asleep when there were noises outside the tiny cave they had found for shelter. Kai woke up when he heard snow being crushed, as though someone were walking really slowly outside the cave.
Kai- * “Tala, wake up…wake up…” * he whispered as he shook Tala roughly. Tala opened his eyes and sat up slowly because he saw Kai with a finger to his lips.
Tala- * “What is it?” *
Kai- * “Listen…someone's outside the cave…” *
The two boys were both extremely silent, they were listening, but no more sounds could be heard outside the cave.
Just before Kai could speak another sound of crushing snow was heard. Tala reached into his boot and pulled out a tiny knife. Pressing a tiny switch, a small blade flicked out. Kai didn't know where Tala got the knife from, but he was glad that he had it.
Kai checked his watch out of curiosity, it was ten minutes past eleven, the fire was burning on its last flickers now and the inside of the tiny cave became dim.
Tala crept near the entrance of the cave, his knife ready in his hand. He couldn't really see anything, but he still kept on looking and listening. Kai was getting suspicious, at first the movement had been a lot, but now it was quiet,
` They know that we're awake…'
Kai- * “Tala, they know we're awake, their trying to lay low to throw us off…” *
Tala looked at Kai as though he were thinking about what Kai had just told him,
Tala- * “You could be right…but they wouldn't leave…so what are they…”
Just then a round object came in the tiny opening at the top of the cave and landed next to Kai's foot. A greenish smoke emitted from the tiny ball and straight up into Kai's face,
Kai- “Tala, its sleeping gas…” he passed out almost instantly. Tala pulled the rocks down from the entrance to let the smoke go out. He held his breath from the moment Kai said sleeping gas so that he wouldn't inhale any of it. He reached for the tiny ball, the smoke burning his eyes and somehow managing to get into his lungs, he threw the ball out of the entrance. He grabbed one of the pieces of clothing from his bag and tried to fan as much of the smoke out as possible. But Tala could no longer hold his breathe, and had inhaled a substantial amount of the gas. He could feel his body becoming sluggish.
He dropped the shirt and started shaking Kai frantically,
Tala- “KAI, KAI! GET UP…WE Have…to get…out of…………” dizziness enveloped Tala, and he dropped down next to Kai on the ground. The last thing he heard was two gruff voices talking and laughing.

The two men each grabbed one of the boys and dragged them out of the cave into the snow. After that they went into the cave and picked up all of the boy's stuff and brought it out as well. One of the guys with black hair picked Kai up and threw him over his shoulder. The second guy was a large man with a baldhead. He picked Tala up with almost no effort and threw him over his shoulder like a rag doll.
Worik- “This will be much fun…”
Armin- “What do you mean Worik?”
Worik- “I mean fun with this kid.”
Armin- “…oh…” he said looking warily at the large man.
Kai, who was jolted into a half sleeping half-woken state, had heard the smaller part of their conversation, but soon he fell into a complete sleep again.
The two men began their trip back through the forest with the two boys on the backs.
Kai woke up when it was still dark outside, which confused him. He wondered if it had all been a dream. But he quickly came to reality when he noticed he was in Boris's office on the floor. He stood up slowly and looked around for anyone. When he had seen no one he became suspicious, he checked himself for any new bruises or cuts and there were none. Kai started toward the door and as he reached to open it, it opened and Boris came in,
Boris- “Hello Kai, how good it is to see you…back where you belong.”
Kai back stepped until he was a good distance from Boris. He checked his watch; it was 2:05 am.
Kai- “Where's Tala?”
Boris- “Don't worry about Tala, Kai. His…just fine.”
Kai- “LIAR!”
Boris- “Calm yourself Kai, I promise you, Tala is in good hands.”
Kai- “Good hands huh? I don't trust you for a second. Yesterday, you made a deal Boris. You said that if I lied to my grandfather for you, you wouldn't touch Tala, or any of them. But that was a lie wasn't it Boris? When I got back I checked on Tala, and he was not fine!”
Boris- “Yesterday, punishment went as usual Kai. It would have still been done had you been here.”
Kai- “What would have still been done?”
Boris- “Oh, the punishment was a simple mind wash.”
Kai- “Mind wash?”
Boris made his way passed Kai and sat at his desk,
Boris- “I just gave them a lesson in extreme violence and other stuff.”
Kai- “Don't play with me Boris, what was it meant to do?”
Boris- “Well, it actually did nothing despite my high hopes. It was an experiment of sorts, to test if we could completely replace all thoughts in a human mind with anything we chose.”
Kai- “And what did you choose?”
Boris- “What does it matter Kai, it didn't work…”
Kai slammed his fists down on Boris's desk, causing some of the things on his desk to fall,
Kai- “WHAT BORIS?”
Boris smiled at Kai's anger,
Boris- “Would you like a demonstration of your own Kai?”
Kai- “Why the hell would I want you to `mind wash' me? I'm asking you a simple question Boris, I've never asked you for a goddamn thing, just tell me…” his voice was straining.
Boris- “First tell me why it's so important that you know?”
Kai dropped to the ground on his knees, trying to stop himself from crying out from all his anger. He calmed himself and sat cross-legged on the floor, his back to Boris and the desk.
Kai- “Because…whatever you did, it…it hurt Tala okay. So please, just tell me.”
Boris- “Very well, each of them had different simulations. Tala's one consisted of war violence, psychotic violence, domestic violence. Murder, suicide, all types of deaths from disease…and…his parents…”
Kai looked up when he heard the last part; he stood up and leaned on Boris's desk,
Kai- “Tala's parents are dead, so why did you show him that.”
Boris- “What ever gave you the impression that his parents are dead?”
Kai- “That's what you told him…”
Boris- “Of course I told him that Kai, how else would I have got him to stay?”
Kai was very confused at that moment, he couldn't figure out what Boris was saying to him,
Kai- “Wait, this was originally an orphanage, before you became sick and twisted, you use to take in children and look after them, my grandfather funded the project. Then when Beyblading became popular, the two of you invested in a team, the Demolition Boys. Tala Brian, Ian, Spencer and me. All of us were orphans when we came here. So what are you talking about?”
Boris- “Very good, you've got almost the entire story…almost.”
Kai- “Well…you like selling your mouth, tell me, what did I leave out?”
Boris- “Honestly Kai, I believe that telling you the truth would do more damage than anything else.”
Kai- “Why do you care, your safe you freak. I'm not about to tell my grandfather a damn thing, as long as you have Tala, then my mouth is shut. You know that! And besides, I've been through so much shit, I don't think it could get any damn worse!”
Boris- “Alright, if you insist Kai, why don't you have a seat, your legs must be in terrible pain.”
Kai- “I'M FINE, JUST TALK!”
Boris- “Okay, lets see. You're right about everything, except that all of you were orphans when you arrived…” he waited to see if Kai would say anything, but continued when there was only silence, “You're parents where dead, your mother died during your birth, and your father killed himself etc. Brian's parents were also dead…”
Kai- “Yeah I know, father was a drug dealer, both of them were murdered because of a bad drug deal. Brian was found sleeping in his cot.”
Boris- “Right again. However, as far as Spencer is concerned, we don't know if his parents are dead, nor do we care. He was abandoned, found wrapped up in a blanket on an old woman's doorstep. Ian, well he came to us. You boys were already well on your way at that time…but Tala…”
Kai- “What about Tala?”
Boris- “You're going to be angrier if you know.”
Kai- “Yeah, so…”
Boris- “You're grandfather bought Tala from his parents Kai. We were looking for genetically perfect beings, and as it were, Tala happened to be one. You, Brian, Spencer and Ian were also discovered for this. That's why you're grandfather sent you here, so you could become greater than you already were, all of you.”
Kai- “So Tala's parents sold their baby…how much?”
Boris- “Well, I'd say it was a hell of a lot of money. But to your grandfather it was just six figures on a piece of paper.”
Kai- “Are his parents still alive?”
Boris- “…We don't know.”
Kai- “You're lying, of course you…”
Just then the speakerphone in Boris's office came on and one of his guards spoke to him,
Voice- “Sir, Worik has just requested more time with Tala Ivanov, what should I tell him?”
Boris looked up at Kai, who had a look of pure horror on his face. Kai wasted no time; he turned and ran straight to the door, as he exited he heard Boris calling after him.
`Boris was stalling…making conversation while that asshole was beating up Tala. I'm such an idiot, how could I be so stupid!' Kai kicked himself mentally as he raced toward the stairs leading up into the tower. He was so angry by now that he was certain he would kill Worik.
