Chapter 13: I got so far…
Kai opened his eyes to the darkness of a room. It was warm, and that didn't make any sense because he was certain Hell would have been a furnace at the least. Or was it just wishful thinking that he might be released to Hell. He didn't bother to sit up, his eyes were focussing and he could now tell that he was in his bedroom in the Hiwatari mansion.
He groaned in misery remembering Tala in his arms, he remembered with horrible pain that Tala was dead. Kai curled into a ball under his blankets and he cried like a lost child, for hours until he fell asleep. All that he was thinking was that it was his fault and it was killing him.
The next time Kai awoke, was when he felt someone come into his room and the curtains were drawn to reveal bright day light. He pulled the blankets over his head and tried to curl up, but the blankets were ripped from him,
Voltaire- “Enough of this baby rubbish, wake up, get out of this bed. Its been two days…!” he shouted angrily.
Kai opened his eyes and looked at his grandfather,
Kai- “Two days?” he whispered.
Voltaire-“Yes, and it's disgraceful that you've been moping like an infant!”
Kai got out of the bed, dried tears on his face and his eyes puffy,
Kai- “What about Tala's funeral? When is it?” he continued to whisper.
Voltaire pulled his face at Kai's continual display of affection to Tala, and so he felt glad at Tala's death, and the news he was about to deliver.
Voltaire- “There will be no funeral Kai, Tala's mother was informed of Tala's tragic death and has ordered a private cremation. So there will be nothing to remind her of the pain.”
Kai's face pulled slightly pained and confused and he swallowed the lump in his throat,
Kai- “His ashes, what will she do with them?” he spoke louder now.
Voltaire-“I don't know Kai, and I certainly don't care, your beginning to annoy me.” Voltaire sounded angry.
Kai stayed silent as everything settled in his head and he knew he had to see Tala a final time. He went directly into his bathroom to get cleaned up, and then he would go to see Tala's `mother' as she was calling herself. Kai cringed at the thought of her having such a nerve.
Voltaire watched Kai as he progressed to the bathroom then slammed the door. Voltaire didn't know what exactly was causing Kai to act this way, but something told him that closure would be the key. Voltaire left the room in the silence with only the shower running.
Kai left the house in haste later that morning, physically refreshed and clean, but emotionally and mentally a wreck. He trudged down the snow path, shouting in Russian, and order to the shaufer driver. He stopped at the car and waited as the driver came rushing.
Voltaire- “KAI! Kai wait a moment…” Voltaire stepped out and made his way to Kai.
Kai waited, the driver standing near as well. Voltaire reached them and he looked defeated at Kai.
Voltaire- “If your going to go off at least tell me for what, perhaps I can help?” Voltaire offered, wanting closure for Kai.
Kai-“Can you give an address?” his voice was so soft but cold.
Voltaire-“Well, it would help to know who's address your asking for.”
Kai thought twice about telling Voltaire, but if he didn't want to waste the day then it would be a good idea to ask,
Kai-“For Tala's…mother…” he hated that word.
Voltaire cocked an eyebrow, he didn't like this on going vendetta that Kai was obsessed with.
Volatire- “Very well…just give me a moment…” and Voltaire walked back inside.
A moment later, he reappeared with a tiny piece of paper. Voltaire stared at Kai who opened the little paper in a hurry. Once Kai saw an address that he knew existed he looked at Voltaire,
Kai-“Thank you grandfather…” was all he said before getting into the car.
Voltaire watched the car leave and then he snorted and pulled his face, he couldn't wait for all this ridiculous behaviour of Kai's to end. Kai needed to prepare for his future, taking Voltaire's place as one of the most prominent men in the world.
Voltaire smiled with pride, Kai would make him proud, and Voltaire's entire estate and fortune would be in good hands.
Kai sat quietly in the back of the Mercedes Benz, the black tinted screen separating him from the driver. He looked out through the closed window as they drove through Moscow's crowded streets.
So many people, he wondered if any and how many may have been as miserable as he was that day, he doubted any where.
He saw a flower stand along one of the side walks, the lady monitoring the flowers was having trouble with the cold wind blowing against the precious flowers. Kai saw what seemed like dozens of red roses among her display and he smiled as he thought of Tala. He picked up the phone connection the driver,
Kai-"Corlak, stop here please…" he said softly.
The car pulled up along the sidewalk a little ways from the stand. Kai got out of the car and the wind knocked his traumatised body fiercely, his scarf nearly blowing away. He grabbed a hold of it and himself and pulled his coat closer around him as he walked to the stand.
The woman looked up at him with a smile,
Woman- "Good day young man…" she began but her smile faded as she focused on Kai. The hollow look he had on his face was so scary to see on someone so young.
He looked at her, she had a kind smile and a slight Russian accent, her hair was a light brown with scarce grey and she looked to be in her early forties. Kai thought she might be one of the happier people in the world.
Kai- "Good day, I was hoping I could purchase those roses…" his voice was almost lost in the wind and she strained to hear him.
She glanced at the roses he pointed at and she smiled,
Woman- "Certainly, how many my dear?"
Kai blinked,
Kai- "All of them…"
Her face changed and she looked at the many dozens of roses she had just bought that morning.
Woman- "That would be a pretty penny my dear boy, roses are hard to come buy at any season in Russia…" she said unobtrusively.
Kai- "Its fine, I don't mind." He persisted.
Before she could say anything a massive gust of cold wind hit and many of her un-weighted flowers went along with the wind. She shouted a cry of irritation and rushed off after her flowers. Kai, even in his weakened state felt the need to help her. He rushed and grabbed as many of the flowers and bouquets as gently as possible and went back to her stand and placed them down with the paperweights she had.
She rushed back and she saw Kai still standing there and that most of her flowers had been recovered. She smiled at him thankfully,
Woman- "Oh thank you for your help, the weather is so dreadful. Look at this poor flower, just the slightest cold from the snow…" she held out a black rose that had wrinkled slightly from the snow and water.
Kai stared at the beautiful rarity,
Kai- "Where did it come from?" he looked through her display.
Woman- "Oh no dear boy this is not for sale, this was mine, its so expensive but so beautiful I just had to buy one for myself when I bought the roses." She touched the rose gently, "But now look…" she sighed at the damaged rose.
Kai- "How much did you pay for it?" he looked at her in her eyes, and she could see a sort of desperate need to know.
Woman- "For the black rose, I think it was 100 dollars for one, I buy from merchants who come from the states…"
Kai- "I'll pay you double for it…" he offered with a stern face.
She gaped at him,
Woman- "Oh my…I don't know…"
Kai- "Please…please sell me the rose…" his voice was desperate.
Woman- "All right dear child…" she began preparing a packaging for the rose but she kept glancing at Kai whose face was so empty.
She handed him the neatly packed rose,
Woman- "May I ask what it's for?"
He looked at her, and she saw tears lining his young eyes,
Kai- "It's…for…someone close to me…who died recently…" he whispered.
Woman- "Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss…" she had her own tears just seeing the pain in Kai's face.
Kai- "Thank you…" he gave a slight smile and then he laughed lightly,
Kai- "I was serious about buying the roses…" he looked at all the roses.
She took a deep breath and began packing up all the roses.
By the time Kai had all the roses it came to a grand total of 600 Euro's. She was equally stunned when Kai paid in cash for all of the roses, the black one placed safely in his coats inner top pocket.
She watched as Kai made two trips with all the roses to a car, when he returned for the second batch, he thanked her again. She didn't fail to notice the number-plate saying 'Hiwatari' as the car pulled away.
Kai stood on the doorstep of the mansion that was Tala's mother's house. The chauffeur had helped him with all the roses to the door, and now he just waited after ringing the doorbell.
The door opened to reveal a woman with a resemblance to Tala, her hair was the same red, just shorter and her eyes were blue, but not as light as Tala's eyes. She was tiny and petite.
The woman stared at Kai as if he was a ghost,
Mrs.Ivanov- "Can I help you?" she looked at all the roses.
Kai- "I came to speak with you…about condolences and grievances…" his voice was low.
-INSIDE-
She handed Kai a cup of hot chocolate and despite his nausea he took it and thanked her.
Mrs.Ivanov- "Well, thank you for your condolences, but I'd like to know your grievances." She said sitting down with her hot chocolate.
Kai- "Mrs. Ivanov, you don't know this, but there were many people that were extremely close to your son, myself especially. Tala was like my brother and nobody knew him the way we all did. We loved him, we were his family, and I think it's selfish that you've chosen a private ceremony that would keep all of us from paying our respects."
Kai had tears in his eyes and she suddenly found her own tears surfacing.
Mrs Ivanov- "I didn't realise, I was under the impression that the abbey was a place only worth hating…I didn't know that there were any people close to him. I'm so glad you told me…it hurt me so terribly to think that he had no friends…" she was crying and buried her face in her hands.
Kai failed to feel bad for her, as far as he was concerned this woman was no mother to Tala, she was merely interfering where Kai should have had first say. He was after all closest to Tala.
Kai- "So then you'll give him a funeral?" Kai asked coldly.
She took a moment to calm herself then she smiled,
Mrs Ivanov- "Yes…I will, I'll arrange the ceremony tomorrow to be a funeral, but will you tell his friends?" she asked.
Kai shook his head,
Kai- "Let me arrange the funeral." He said calmly.
She stayed quiet for a long time as if she was considering the fact that Kai didn't seem to be asking. She looked at him, but his face deceived his voice, as the pain was so blatantly obvious.
Mrs Ivanov- "OK, its fine. I suppose I don't really deserve the chance to do something for him now so late in his…well…his not alive so…" she broke down.
Kai blinked; here he was blaming himself, when she most likely cried every night blaming herself. But Kai knew it was his fault, because he was there, and he let Tala down.
Mrs Ivanov- "I'll cover the expenses…" she started but just broke down again. She knew the money would never make it right. It was money that made her sell her son, and now she never even had the chance to meet him.
Kai stood,
Kai- "No, I'll do everything, you will be expected there. I will be expecting you. Both of us have something we owe to him, so both of us are obligated." He told her in a soft voice, not wanting to hurt her intentionally.
She looked at him and stood up,
Mrs Ivanov- "Well, if you need any help I'll be here." She breathed.
Kai- "Just be there, have the casket and his body sent here," he handed her a folded piece of paper,
Kai- "That's where the funeral will be tomorrow at 10am. Just that, assure his body makes it there from the morgue."
She nodded and her tears came out again and she threw her arms around Kai and hugged him tightly,
Mrs Ivanov- "I'm sorry I wasn't there for him, I know I'm a terrible mother, a terrible human being. I cried every night I thought of what I did." She held him tighter, "I would do anything to make it right…" she was crying on Kai's shoulder.
Kai had never really been in a situation such as that and so he just stayed still as she cried, holding him as if he were a lifesaver. Once she came to grips, she pulled back and Kai looked at her face, she looked distraught. But he had nothing to say to her, she was just a woman laying a claim to love a boy she didn't deserve to love. She didn't know Tala and she never would have the chance to hurt him, and for that Kai was happy.
Kai- "I have to go." He said simply and turned to leave.
The Following Day
Kai looked at himself in the full-length mirror in his room; he wore a full black suit and he looked suited for a funeral.
But he still wore his famous white scarf, it was outstanding against the black suit.
His eyes were puffy and his face was strained.
He had returned home the day before and told his grandfather he wanted to handle the funeral. Voltaire, wanting Kai's closure, accepted and helped Kai arrange everything. As far as Voltaire was concerned, he just needed to get it out of the way, then Kai would be useful in many business ventures.
But Kai wasn't stupid, he knew that Voltaire had his own motives. He smiled at his reflection in the mirror in a very sad and hollow way. Kai felt he really didn't exist that much any more. He knew he died that day when Tala did, in his arms.
He made his way downstairs, and out into the massive back yard. The day was freezing cold, but there was no wind at all. It was as if the weather knew this day couldn't be interfered with. Kai was proud as he looked over the more than 300 people that attended the funeral.
Almost all were the abbey's children; the abbey had approximately 150 children, 90 of which was there that day, and their families, those of them that had.
The rest of the people where families and citizens who read about the tragedy at the abbey in the papers. They were volunteers and assistants at the abbey now, and they all came to pay their respects.
Kai greeted as he went, he checked his watch and it was fifteen minutes to ten.
Brian- "Hey Kai." He looked up to see Brian, eyes just as red and puffy, standing slouched against one of the lay out tables.
Kai- "Brian…" he said sadly, knowing they shared similar pain.
Brian's face faulted and it was obvious he was going to cry. Kai tried his best not to cry.
Brian- "We're all free Kai, finally, but Tala's not here to be with us. Boris is in prison and all of his evil is gone…but Tala's gone too. It's just not fair…" he spoke softly but his voice was full of emotion, which meant so much more because Brian never showed emotion.
Kai- "It's all over Brian…and in some way…no matter how painful it may be…his in a better place." Kai told him, patting his shoulder.
None of them knew how to comfort but they all knew how to grieve. Ian was in a similar state, but Spencer wasn't there, he never knew any better.
Kai looked about 20 feet across the yard, where some people where leaving and others going to attend, the last few, was the decorated arch under which stood Tala's open casket.
Kai- "Did you…" he asked Brian while looking across the yard.
Brian nodded, his face faltering again.
Kai checked his watch. He had ten minutes before the formalities began and he wouldn't get another chance to see Tala.
It seemed as if the world was moving in slow motion as Kai made his way to the casket.
Kai passed his grandfather, who watched him intently. He passed a lot of boys from the abbey and their families and he was sure he even saw Tala'a mother from the corner of his eye.
By the time he reached a few feet from the casket the world seemed to have disappeared. He was the only person there at the arch and his hands began to sweat at the thought of seeing his friend dead…again.
Kai leaned over and he looked into the peaceful face of Yuri Tala Ivanov. The one thing Kai had truly learned to love. The most amazing person he ever knew, his only real family, even more so than his real blood.
Kai- "I'm sorry…" he said again, he knew he had said it ever time even to himself, but he also knew it didn't help.
Kai was grateful that Tala's death had been internal and so they were able to give him an open casket. If Kai didn't know any better he would have sworn Tala was only asleep. They pale colour of Tala's skin was so much like it had been in the abbey, unhealthy and unnatural.
Kai's face was hollow as he thought bitterly that even after everything they went through in the abbey, he would give everything and anything to be back there with Tala. Kai reached inside his inner pocket of his blazer and pulled out the black rose.
It was dying, but still beautiful, and he thought it made so much sense to leave it with Tala.
The rose had been touched by the cold, and then it began to whither and die, now in no more than a day it would be a dead rose, but still beautiful.
Kai- "Just like you…" he whispered as he looked down affectionately at Tala. Only Tala was already dead,
Kai- "I'll be with you soon…" he whispered even softer and then placed a kiss on Tala's forehead. He stared a moment longer at Tala's expressionless face and then leaned down again, tears running slowly from his eyes, he placed a second kiss on the point that was the corner of Tala's mouth and part of his cheek.
He held the kiss for a moment, his eyes shut tightly, Tala's face was frozen cold, but Kai didn't care.
Kai- "I love you Tala…" he whispered before standing up and roughly wiping the tears from his eyes.
Kai looked at his watch and saw that it was ten exactly. He turned and saw the priest approaching to the arch, the altar was next to it. Everyone was gathering.
Kai placed the rose on Tala's chest and then walked away from the casket, in a direction away from everyone. He didn't wish to stay for the sob stories, he had said his goodbyes, now it was time.
He walked along the garden path that was on the far end of the Hiwatari estate. He was thinking about everything, no one could see him now as he cried openly, cried for Tala, for himself and his own pain, for his misery, for everything that went wrong in Tala's life and for everything he blamed himself for, which was everything.
The wind had started to pick up and the cold had as well. Kai knew that a cremation was still arranged, but a tombstone would be put up in memory of Tala never the less, Kai had arranged that himself.
Mrs Ivanov- "Kai?" a woman's voice spoke to Kai.
He turned to see Tala's mother standing in the path a few feet behind him, she had a hand in her own, that attached to a small boy. Kai glanced at them,
Kai- "I never told you my name." He told her.
Mrs Ivanov- "Well, your names around the crowds of people." She explained.
Kai just looked the other way,
Kai- "Are you following me?" he didn't sound happy.
Mrs Ivanov -"No, I wanted to thank you, for everything, and especially for showing me how much Tala truly meant. Because I never would have known otherwise."
Kai looked at her,
Kai- "Your welcome, now please leave me…"
Mrs Ivanov- "Just a moment…please?" she pleaded, stepping closer.
He sighed,
Kai- "What is it?" he was becoming impatient.
She looked down at the young boy holding her hand,
Mrs Ivanov- "This is my son, Tala's blood brother. His seven now and I had always told him I would one day find his brother…"
Kai frowned,
Kai- "But Tala's father's dead, Boris said so." He said in a harsh tone.
Mrs Ivanov- "I was married to Tala's father for nine years before he died. When I…uh, gave Tala away…"
Kai- "You mean sold him…" his tone was sharp now.
Mrs Ivanov- "Yes…yes, well Tala was a year old. Two years later his father came back to me and told me that he knew I had been pregnant and he wanted to take care of us. I told him what had happened, and by the grace of God…"
Kai- "I don't believe in God." Kai was really on his last nerve.
Mrs Ivanov- "Well, by some miracle, he forgave me. We were together for 9 years, but he became ill, he had cancer, and he passed away. A year later I married…Curtis. The biggest mistake I ever made…" she seemed angry.
Kai looked at the grey sky,
Kai- "What's your point?"
She smiled a little,
Mrs Ivanov- "Yorgi here is Tala's blood brother, can't you tell? I had him when Tala's father was still alive." she looked hopefully.
Kai turned to look at the boy that about 3 feet tall. He had that same red hair and it was cut just below his ears. His skin was milk white, Kai remembered a time where his own skin and Tala's had been so pure, before the abbey. And then there was the eye's, the same as Tala's, he was definitely Tala's brother, and that cut into Kai like a knife.
Tala had a real brother, so what was Kai really worth now.
Kai- "Yeah, I can tell." He answered bitterly.
She stayed silent a moment, the wind carrying more of Kai's soul away as it's cold blew against him.
Mrs Ivanov- "He asked me a question that I couldn't answer, and I was hoping you could."
Kai looked at the boy, who looked so innocent and sad,
Kai- "What?" he spoke in a more gentle tone.
She crouched down and told Yorgi in Russian to ask his question. He stepped forward very timidly and spoke to Kai in Russian.
Kai's face softened at the boy's question, he really was an innocent and Kai couldn't hate him for something he had no control of.
Kai- "He was amazing Yorgi, the best brother or friend anyone could ever have…and he would have loved you so much…" Kai struggled to say the words, and he was speaking in Russian, assuming Yorgi didn't speak English.
Tala's mother had tears in her eyes as a small smile appeared on Yorgi's face. Yorgi said thank you and went to stand by his mother.
Mrs Ivanov- "Thank you Kai, I couldn't tell him what Tala was like, because I never knew…" she was crying now.
Kai felt more pain and misery at that moment than ever before, he knew he couldn't do this anymore. He had to get away, get out, and be truly free. He looked at Tala's mother and then at Yorgi, tears full in his eyes,
Kai- "I don't want your thanks, I don't deserve it…its my fault his dead…it my…fault…" his voice was low and icy and he turned on his heel and walked away, the wind catching his scarf and ripping it from his neck, at that point Kai started running.
The scarf floated in the air and Yorgi jumped up and caught it, he hadn't understood a word Kai had said. Tala's mother was in shock, as far as she knew, Curtis and Boris Balvoc were responsible for Tala's death. But she could almost feel the pain that was in Kai's face before he walked away, a pain she knew she would never understand.
Kai rushed into his room and slammed the door and locked it. He broke down then, his body shaking from his crying.
He hated himself and he knew he would always.
He would always hate himself for that moment too soon, that he left Tala in that room alone, for that hour he stood out in the yard, thinking of other less important things.
It was his fault, and he saw Tala die a painful, miserable death.
He didn't care how deceptive that peaceful look on Tala's lifeless face looked. He saw the pain Tala was in as he was dying, he didn't know, he couldn't imagine what kind of things were going through Tala's mind at that moment. He knew Tala was in pain and he had been certain Tala knew he would die.
But in that moment that Tala focused on Kai, he knew Tala was cursing him, because it was his fault.
Kai gripped his hair and gritted his teeth and the tears flowed from his tightly shut eye's. He lay there crying on floor, all of his life running through his head, and he realised how it simply meant nothing now…it was over…it was the end.
Kai sat on the floor reading the last of the words written on the piece of paper. Once he'd decided that was all he wanted to say, he signed his name then he threw the pen to one side. And put the paper on the white carpet of his room.
He stood and went over to his desk, he had long since discarded his blazer and his tie.
His top two black shirt buttons were open and his shirtsleeves were rolled up.
He rummaged hurriedly through his drawer and found what he was looking for.
Kai went to the window and saw the few people left there, everyone else had gone and Tala's body was probably on the verge of being cremated.
He went back and sat on the floor next to his letter, he smiled at the pocket knife he held in his hand. That knife had sentimental value to Kai. When he and Tala were around 10 years old, they had made a blood brother pact and that very knife was the one used to cut their hands before they shook hands.
Kai opened his left hand and smiled at the scar that he would always have, even in death. He thought for a second about what he was about to do, and he felt amazing calm all through his body, his blood was running cold and he had no fear, this was what he wanted in the end.
That Night
After the longest day Voltaire walked his mansion searching for Kai. Brian and Ian were with him, they wanted to say good bye to him.
They didn't realise their reality of their goodbyes until they reached Kai's, locked, bedroom door.
Voltaire knocked hard and loud,
Voltaire- "Kai open the door, there are friends here who wish to see you." He said impatiently.
But there was no response, no sound…nothing.
In no real hurry, Voltaire sent Ian to fetch the house caretaker from the outbuilding, the 46 year old Slovakian woman was the only one with the master keys. Ian went off quickly, he was worried.
Brian was worried as well so he also knocked,
Brian- "Kai, its Brian, are you in there?" he called.
Again there was nothing.
Voltaire- "His been in there a lot since Ivanov died, he's probably asleep." Voltaire said irritably. Brian didn't appreciate the uninterested way Voltaire spoke and the insensitive use of Tala's last name.
Ten minutes later Ian returned with the older woman and her keys that she never let out of her sight.
She opened the door as Boris instructed and then walked away.
Brian and Ian went in first, and before Brian even switched on the light and saw it he knew it.
Brian could smell the blood, the pungent iron smell. He was too afraid to switch on the light, but the light that flooded the room from the hall only revealed a foot. It was still with an expensive black Italian shoe, it was Kai.
Voltaire switched on the light and all three pairs of eyes fell on the sixteen-year old boy lying on his back in a pool of his own blood, soaked into the white carpet.
Brian- "Kai…" Brian said in an understanding tone.
Ian- "Kai…" Ian said as well, only in a 'why' tone, "Not you too…no…" he added.
Voltaire was speechless, his heart racing at the sight of his dead grandson. He didn't know what it was, but he thought it felt like pain that was forcing into his body. He loved his grandson, Kai was his young prodigy, Kai was supposed to take over Voltaire's empire, Kai was his heir, and his grandson…Kai was dead.
Anger surfaced when he realised that Kai had committed suicide for Tala.
Brian was the only one who went to Kai and sat next to his body, he gave a miserable but understanding smile to Kai's dead form, and then he noticed the letter.
He lifted it up and read the first word,
Brian- "Its addressed to you sir." He referred to Voltaire.
Voltaire took the letter and his face went through many expressions as he read before it finally settled on confusion, a frown on his face. He looked at Brian, squashing the slightly bloodstained letter in his large hand,
Voltaire- "I don't understand, I thought this was what he wanted, closure…" Voltaire was asking.
Brian looked at Kai,
Brian- "This…" he pointed to the slit wrists, "was his way out, and that's what he wanted."
Ian- "You'll never understand Voltaire, because you didn't know him…" Ian added understanding what Brian had meant.
Voltaire walked out after throwing the letter to the ground, he had tears in his eyes he had to hide, tears for his last blood relative that was now gone.
Ian looked at Brian,
Ian- "I wanted to show you something…" he sat down on the other side of Kai and pulled out his wallet.
Kai's face was peaceful, just as Tala's had been, but Brian and Ian knew that it was only the surface.
Ian pulled a picture from his wallet and handed it to Brian.
Brian smiled at the picture, it was of the five of them, the original Demolition Boys.
Tala, Kai, Brian, Spencer and Ian, they were all so much younger. They weren't even teenagers in the picture. All had grins on their young faces, happy faces, they always said they would be the beyblading champs of the world, and that was their first time they won a match.
Brian- "We look so naughty…" Brian had tears, reality that two of the people in the picture were dead and one of them was dead next to him. And the other was somewhere, with no memories of anything.
Ian- "We look happy…" Ian was crying and he was looking at Kai.
Brian put the picture next to Kai and he picked up the letter and he looked at Ian,
Brian- "Should I read it?" he asked wiping his tears away.
Ian- "Yeah…I think we deserve to know…" Ian said softly.
They both heard the sirens of the ambulance as Brian began reading the letter aloud between the two of them…and they both had tears of understanding by the end.
Then came the chaos and the ambulance…
