Dr. Romanova sat at Dr. Candide's desk. She had Rei's case notes spread out before her. She looked at all the symptoms then at the blood test.
"It looks like severe chemical poisoning but what kind of poison. There are hundreds but from the symptoms it indicates some sort of powder. Could be bloody organic phosphate but how in hell could he inhale an crop insecticide in the middle of the city," Dr. Romanova said letting her head fall to the desk.
"Do doctors always talk to themselves," Kai asked from his place in the doorway.Romanova looked up to see Kai leaning against the doorframe arms across his chest.
"Yeah we do it all the time," Dr. Romanova said sarcastically.
"Can I talk to you. On the quiet I mean," Kai stuttered taking a step into the room and looking at his feet.
"Yes of course pull up a chair," Dr. Romanova said looking at Kai worriedly.
"I don't know if I should really tell you this it could have nothing to do with things," Kai said placing his hands on the desk.
"Go on. It's obviously bugging you so get it out of your system," Dr. Romanova said leaning her elbows on the table.
"Well I've been having this continuous dream," Kai said looking at Dr. Romanova to see her reaction.
"Go on," Dr. Romanova said.
"In this dream there is this red rose and it's on the table. Then a friend of Rei's her name is Mariah, she's completely obsessed with him, steps out and says that I can't have Rei so he must die. I look down at this rose again and it's gone but Rei's there and he's dead," Kai said softly, "Just before Rei started to get sick Mariah gave him a red rose. I just have this feeling that she caused this and that it's my fault cause I didn't take the rose off him."looked at Dr. Romanova who was nodding her head.Romanova pulled her bottom lip into her mouth and nibbled on it deep in thought.
"You may have something there. My mentor was a psychiatrist and a neurologist and he told me that the mind takes in everything you see. If your mind doesn't find the information important it doesn't get filed it gets thrown into the cellar of your mind. Now when you're asleep your subconscious goes through that cellar. If it finds something it thinks is important it puts together a dream to help your conscious self understand what you have missed," Dr. Romanova said, "Your subconscious knows a hell of a lot more then your conscious self. Maybe it saw Mariah's danger to Rei and is expressing what it knows through a dream."nodded in understanding.
"Do you still have the rose?" Dr. Romanova asked, "It could be the lead we're looking for."
"Yes it is still in our hotel room," Kai said, "I can get Mr. Dickensen to bring it. He is taking my other teammates home."
"Great," Dr. Romanova said banging her hands on to the table, "The sooner we get it to the lab the sooner we'll know if it is the cause."nodded and stood.Romanova stood and followed Kai back to Rei's room.went over and spoke to Mr. Dickensen, Kenny, Max and Tyson while Dr. Romanova checked Rei's temperature and heart rate.Dickensen, Kenny, Max and Tyson left and Kai went back to sit next to Rei.Romanova disappeared for a short while but returned with special bag of intravenous fluids as well as a blood taking kit. Replacing the drip for the intravenous fluids, which were stronger she made notes of the change.
"Why did you change it?" Kai asked.
"Well this is a bit more enriched and will replace all the fluids Rei has lost through vomiting," Dr. Romanova explained.
"Oh," Kai said, "Is it alright if I stay the night with Rei."
"I'm not really supposed to let you but yes you can" Dr. Romanova said.
"I'm so worried," Kai said, "I have to go to a bey battle tomorrow to replace Rei but I don't want to leave him."
"Well I'll be here to watch over him and it would be best if you did get out for a bit." Dr. Romanova said taking Rei's free arm and placing an elastic strap around it, "You said you had a bey battle tomorrow. Who are you up against?"
"The Majestics," Kai said as he watched Dr. Romanova swab the inside of Rei's elbow with the special wipe.
"Really," Dr. Romanova said prepping the needle then inserting it in Rei's arm she started to draw blood, "I haven't seen a bey battle in quite a long time. Haven't participated in one for even longer."Romanova removed the needle securing a cotton ball to stop the bleeding. She bent Rei's arm up.
"Here hold his arm for a minute just till it quells the bleeding," Dr. Romanova said.placed his hand in place to hold Rei's arm folded and said, "You competed in bey battles?"
"Yep when I was in high school but as soon as I hit University I didn't have the time," Dr. Romanova said, "I'm going to send this to the lab and be back."looked at Rei and sighed
'It's all my fault. I'll never be able to forgive myself'
'll be fin Kai and it's not your fault. @is Dranzer and if I lose Rei I don't know what I'll do. ^'m sure you've hit the nail on the head with that rose and it's being brought to the hospital isn't it. That Dr. Romanova will find the poison and treat Re accordingly. She mad you a promise to have Rei up and about in four days and my senses tell me she's a woman of her word. @'re probably right Dranzer but I doesn't stop me worrying. ^'s a fighter and Drigger is helping him along as much as he can. @does Drigger say about Rei? Is he in a lot of pain? ^but Rei told Drigger not to worry. @'s Rei all over. Bloody stubborn. ^what if he's stubborn. He is and I quote 'Cairng, funny, gorgeous, loving and most of all pure'. @mean every single word. ^know. @'m going to tell him if he wakes up. ^he wakes up. @Dranzer when. ^sound tired Kai you should sleep. How does that sound? @ don't know. ^Kai you're no use to Rei in the hospital for exhaustion. @guess you're right. I'll go to sleep when I know the rose is safely in Dr. Romanova's hands. ^Goodnight Kai. @Dranzer. ^
looked at Rei and smiled then looked towards the door hearing heavy footsteps in the hall.Dickensen walked in followed by Dr. Romanova.
"Is this it Kai/" Dr. Romanova said opening the box slightly for Kai to see.the rose Kai growled and nodded.
"I'll go do the tests now," Dr. Romanova said closing the box and tucking it under her arm.
"I'll leave and see you all tomorrow," Mr. Dickensen said leaving.
"Kai if you need anything get the nurse to page me okay," Dr. Romanova said.nodded and Dr. Romanova left.stood up and placed a light kiss on Rei's lips and whispered, "Sleep well Rei."back in the chair Kai closed his eyes and it wasn't long before he dozed off.
Romanova entered the lab carrying the box. Another lab technician was across the room testing Rei's blood sample for poisons.Romanova putt on a pair of plastic gloves and a small mask and special glasses.up near a microscope she opened the box.reached in and delicately plucked a petal of the rose.a small soft bristled brush she dusted the petal letting its contents fall on a slide.the small square plate on it she put it under the microscope and magnified the image.it she could clearly see dust particles.erupted in her stomach. This could be it.the slide out she turned off the microscope.a special dish out of a draw she grabbed another rose petal and dusted it allowing the contents fall into the dish.over to a big, white box of a machine she opened it and placed the dish in the a small opening at the front. She hut the small glass door, set what tests she wanted and pushed the red button to start it.over to the phone on the wall she picked it up and dialed a very familiar number.person answered on the second ring and gave a tired, "Hello."
"Mickhelson it's Romanova. I'm at Greenslopes Hospital. I've got a really puzzling case. I think it's Organic Phosphate poisoning but I'm not sure can it be bought in powdered form locally. I only thought you could buy it in bulk for crop dusting with permits and all that," Dr. Romanova said into the phone.
"Hope do you know what time it is?" Mr. Mickhelson replied.
"Come on Alexi please this kid can't wait and I don't want to make a mistake," Dr. Romanova said.
"No it can't be brought without a permit unless you find someone willing to break the rules and since you're at Greenslopes you're in close proximity to Mark Buchmann. He'd sell his own mother to get some cash," Alexi replied.
"Thank-you Alexi I owe you one," Dr. Romanova replied writing down the name Alexi had given her.
"Dinner on Saturday night," Alexi replied.
"You're on," Dr. Romanova said.
"Night gorgeous," Alexi said.
"Night Alexi," Dr. Romanova replied shaking her head and hanging up the phone.machine started beeping and started spitting out a strip of paper.Romanova walked over and ripped it off and started reading the results.squiggly lines on the paper confirmed what she had suspected It was Organic Phosphate.
"Ma'am I've finished the test," the lab technician said coming over and handing her the results.
"Brilliant. Thank-you for working so late," Dr. Romanova said.lab technician just waved it off.Romanova pulled the dish out of the machine and put a lid on it and placed it, the slide, the rose and its box in a plastic bag and locked it in a draw taking the keys with her.out of the lab she bolted to the secondary lockup. Showing her I.D to the guard there she grabbed a vile of medicine, its syringe and needle tip. Signed a sheet saying she took it and what patient it was to be administered to and headed for Rei's room.tore into Rei's room waking Kai with a jolt.immediately looked at Rei seeing noting but the obvious was wrong he glared at her.
"I did Kai. It was Organic Phosphate poisoning. When Rei sniffed the rose he inhaled the dust and his body absorbed it," Dr. Romanova said panting slightly from her run.
"SO if you know what is causing it you can administer an anti-dote," Kai said hopefully.
"This," Dr. Romanova said holding up the medicine vile, "Is Atropine. It will cure Rei completely. Well his senses may be extra sensitive for a few days but that's it."Romanova connected the syringe to the needle tip and entered it into the vile and drained it of its contents.over to Rei's intravenous tubes and inserted the needle into a special connection and emptied the syringe.
"There all done. Now all we can do is wait," Dr. Romanova said then walking over to the bin she carefully discarded the syringe and pulled two blankets out from a cupboard.threw one at Kai and placed the other over Rei.
"I'll be around if you need a drink or something to eat grab it from the doctor's lounge," Dr. Romanova said before disappearing.curled up in the blanket but found he couldn't sleep so he watched over Rei for the rest of the night.
Well what do you think? I couldn't remember the name of the machine or the tests. Please forgive me?
