Oh Brother Where Out Thou?
As the kids sat in the waiting room in the hospital, Mr. Dickenson joined them. All were anxious, especially Kai, even if he didn't show it. Teeth were clenching, fingers tapping, the seconds on the clock droned on and on. Many people were going in and out of the waiting room into the other corridors. A few doctors came in to their room, all looking eagerly for one to come over to them and tell them that Ishizu was just fine. But nothing. They were starting to get impatient.
"How long can this take!" cried Tyson. Mr. Dickenson sighed. He knew what this long waiting could mean. Two hours passed and still they sat there. Ray tried to take his mind off of it by reading a beyblading magazine. Hilary was on the phone talking to her mother, trying to explain how she was fine and that she wasn't going to hold Tyson or the others to this at all. Max was asleep, or trying to at least. Kenny was running through some computer programs that he was working on. Tyson was pacing around the room, looking at the clock, the door, and the others. He rolled his eyes as he heard Hilary's conversation with her mother. Kai was sitting in the far corner, arms crossed, eye closed and head lowered. He couldn't help be continue to replay the incidents that led to this period. Mr. Dickenson was trying to read a book, but the words just wouldn't make out right. Finally a doctor came out and asked for Mr. Dickenson.
"Mr. Dickenson?"
"Yes. How is she?" The doctor walked over, and all, but Kai rushed over and put aside what they were doing. The doctor was shaking his head.
"I first need to know if Ishizu was under your care? The office needs to get in contact with her legal guardians." Mr. Dickenson looked at the kids, who all looked at each other.
"Um, Ishizu never mentioned her family," stated Hilary. "She never even talked about where she lives." The doctor gave a worry line on his brow.
"I'll take the responsibility until her parents are located and contacted," stated Mr. Dickenson. "Please, how is she?"
"Yea, what took you so long?" asked Tyson jumping into the doctor's face.
"TYSON!" shouted the others. The doctor nodded towards Mr. Dickenson's assertion.
"Well you see, it took a bit for the x-rays to come through-"
"And what is it?"
"TYSON!"
"Err- well it isn't broken all the way through. It is more like a simple fracture in three places. The x-rays showed the thin breaks along her fibula-"
"Fib-what?" Hilary grabbed Tyson by the ear, and pulled him away from the doctor. The doctor rolled his eyes at Tyson.
"Her fibula is fractured in three places, but nothing time won't heal. I must say that temporary cast she came in was a savior. From what Ishizu managed to tell us, it seems as though if she didn't have it, and it set so correctly, that she could have looked at a shattered bone. That would have required surgery."
"Oh my goodness. Thank God for your work Ray," stated Mr. Dickenson. Ray almost blushed.
"She won't be needing any crutches with in the next few days, but I wouldn't recommend her walking on it much. She'll be set with an air cast, which will allow her to walk normally without putting too much pressure on the bone," declared the doctor.
"And how is she right now?" asked Max.
"Well it also took long because she also came in quiet sick, as you probably can remember. She had a high fever and before we could get her into the x-rays, we had to contain it. It took the most time to do that, and right now we still aren't sure of what she has, but we are almost positive it isn't contagious. It might be something similar to pneumniona, but it will still be a day or so until the lab tests come back," replied the doctor.
"So she's fine?" asked Hilary.
"She is stable right now, but within the next 24 hours, we think, her fever could regress and sky rocket again. That is why we want to keep her here over night until we are sure that she'll be fine." Mr. Dickenson nodded.
"Anything possible to make sure Ishizu will come out fine," firmly said Mr. Dickenson.
"Can we go and visit her?" asked Tyson.
"Um... well... err- you can-" Tyson and the others ran towards the door. "But Ishizu personally requested that she get no visitors."
"WHAT!" shouted the surprised Tyson.
"What do you mean?" asked Kenny.
"Just what I said," the doctor replied. "Ishizu told us when we got her to her room, that she just wanted to be alone. She didn't want to see anyone. She stressed that." The others looked to the floor, and almost fell down anime style. Mr. Dickenson stood up.
"Well I sure would still like to know which room she's located in," stated Mr. Dickenson. "And I think we should all respect her request. Ishizu has been through a lot and she must want to get better quickly." The others sighed and nodded.
"Well she is currently in room 334," stated the doctor, leading Mr. Dickenson away to do the paper work and payment. The kids sat down again in the waiting room.
"Why wouldn't she want to see us?" asked Tyson.
"I'm not sure," replied Ray.
"It can't be because of what happened could it?" asked Max.
"I'm sure it wasn't," declared Ray. "I mean, the entire time Ishizu was trying to be independent from me and Kai. I guess she didn't want us to see her so weak and vulnerable."
"I wouldn't want to seem that way," mumbled Hilary.
"There's no chance for you too be weak when you're too busy being annoying," decided Tyson in a joking manner. Hilary, sitting next to Tyson, bobbed him in the head.
"Putting that aside," stated Max. "I agree with Hilary, no one wasn't to be see as a weakling. Especially if you have a bit beast like Ra."
"Speaking of Ra," went Tyson, turning towards Kai and rubbing his sore head. "What happened during that battle. Even Dizzi thought that you and Dranzer were goners." Kai never looked up from his 'usual' position.
"You don't believe it was my skills as a blader?" he asked, almost like a joke... almost.
"Ha ha ha, Kai. You're such a hoot," mocked Tyson.
"It was Ra," he stated.
"How do you know?" asked Hilary.
"Besides the light coming from Ishizu's blade... I could feel it," he replied.
"Hey do you remember what that Tomi kid said about an 'ancient bit beast'?" asked Ray. They all turned towards Kenny.
"I'll have Dizzi run a scan for it," nodded Kenny. They sat down quiet again.
"Maybe we should go and practice for the World Championships, since they are coming up soon," suggested Max.
"Good idea," declared Ray. "It could help us take our minds of-" He couldn't really bring himself to finish. And everyone knew exactly what he was talking about. Walking out of the hospital, they made their way to the riverside, all in silence. What could they talk about? As they started their practices, none of them could concentrate. Each battle just reminded them more and more of their battles with Ishizu, both in the dish and off. Kai and Tyson both felt equally bad about the accident.
"Well, you guys seem to suck. I thought practice was suppose to make you better?" asked a voice in the background. Everyone looked up and noticed it was Ozuma.
"What are you doing here?" asked Tyson.
"Making sure that you're not going to screw up and let someone else take the sacred bit beasts. Hey, I thought Ishizu was hanging out with you guys? What she realize how bad you guys are?" asked Ozuma, curiously. [How does he know that Ishizu was with us, and who she is?] wondered Kai to himself.
"Well actually, she's probably the reason none of them can concentrate," declared Kenny. Ozuma's eyes almost popped out.
"Yea, she went with us to battle those Wraith Bladers, but turns out it was just another scheme to get our bit beasts," stated Max.
"And we still have them all, but Ishizu..." started Tyson.
"Ishizu got hurt and sick. She's at the hospital right now," finished Ray, getting it off his chest. Ozuma's face started to flare up red.
"What room is she in?"
"I think its like 334," replied Ray.
"What's wrong?" asked Kenny. "How do you know Ishizu?" Kenny started to catch on to something. Ozuma had turned to leave, and looked back at them.
"There's more to Ishizu than any of you have figured out." With that, Ozuma was gone, leaving the confused bladers in their locations.
At the hospital, Ishizu was lying on her bed, leg propped on a pillow wrapped tightly, all alone in her room. Once in a while a nurse would come in to check on her IV for something or another, get her blood for more test work, or who knows what. But when she was alone, Ishizu would take her blade from underneath her pillow and just think. Think about anything, the past, the present, the future. Glancing up at Ra, she looked over the picture of him. The might golden griffon just looked back at her. She so wished if Ra could be right next to her side, to protect her, instead of her protecting him. But it was her life, to protect Ra, even if she wasn't sure why exactly. But the griffon and her always seemed out of place where ever they went. It didn't matter how many battles they won, or how many tournaments she was in, she always felt empty. It was hard to find out what exactly the reason for that was. Maybe there was more to them
"What happened Ra? What started this? Where did it all go wrong?" she asked. She then felt kind of stupid talking to Ra, because he never seemed to answer her, but every night she always conversed with him, except while on that island of course.
"You still talking to that silly blade?" asked a voice from the door way. Ishizu almost jumped out of her bed, as the voice was so familiar to her. Looking at the door way, she saw Ozuma standing there, arms crossed and in the typical "Kai" stance.
"What are you doing here?" she asked in a harsh voice. "I thought I told the nurses that I didn't want to see anyone." Ozuma let go his arms and walked in, letting the door shut behind him.
"Why Ishizu, I do know of some of the answers to your questions, but that isn't a very nice thing to say to your-"
"Answer and get out. I don't want to see anyone anymore," stated Ishizu. Ozuma made it next to the bed, and pulled up a chair.
"Well you can't run from all your problems, first of all." Ishizu just gave him a death glare. "And it all started when you left. After you ran away, well that's when it all began."
"Don't you dare talk about living back in that village," stated Ishizu. "I never belonged there, and even you know that. I was different, and so was Ra. You never were able to get him in that rock where you? The night before I left. Did you think I would never figure that out, when my blade was missing?" Ozuma looked away.
"Listen, I was just doing my job, I had to try and get him in there so no one could get their grubby hands on him. He's ten times more powerful than Flash Leopard, who is no push over," stated Ozuma.
"Than why couldn't you have trusted me!" shouted Ishizu. "I am just as good a blader as you Ozuma. I could protect Ra just as well at that stupid rock. And I think I've proven it time after time."
"Maybe you did, maybe you didn't, but those scientists, they are out there for the four sacred bit beasts, and what's going to stop them from wanting Ra?"
"Who even says that they know Ra exists? Thanks to the penny rumors, Ra is a hoax, and no one takes him serious until they face him," replied Ishizu. "Plus, I'm a better blader than those Blade Breakers." Ozuma chuckled.
"Well I must agree with you on that-"
"Why are you here Ozuma? I'm not in the mood for petty conversation," stated Ishizu. Ozuma leaned back on his chair.
"I ran into Tyson, Kenny, Hilary, Max, Ray, and Kai. And they told me you were hurt, as I can see there," smirked Ozuma. Ishizu's face tensed as he stated Kai's name, and Ozuma took notice to that. "And I had to come over when I heard that my little sister wasn't up and on her feet running from every trouble that faced her." Ishizu glared deathly at him.
"I am not your real sister, Ozuma, and I am not running from my problems-"
"You ran away from home, you ran to Europe, and you ran from Robert when things were starting to get between you two-"
"That is gibberish," firmly stated Ishizu. "Nothing happened between me and Robert." Ozuma put up a finger.
"I beg to differ," he confirmed. "I have been traveling around just as much as you have little sis, and I actually ran into Robert, and he told me a different story there, Zu." Ishizu looked away. "Or is it that you have your sites set on another man?" Ishizu looked back at him, in disbelief. "Come on Ishizu, when I said Kai's name, you tensed up. And the last time I saw you tense up was when that kid came through our village and you crushed on him like a whore." Ishizu slapped him across the face.
"You call me that again, and you'll be singing soprano," she shouted at him. Ozuma held his red cheek, and realized his mistake.
"Listen, I'm sorry, you're my sister, and I'm the last person who would call you that. But I'm trying to look out for you. And that's why I want you to stay away from Kai."
"And why is that? How even said I came close to liking him?" she questioned, eyeing him. Ozuma got up and headed for the door.
"I don't want you to expect something and not see it in Kai, and leave him too. I don't want either of you hurt. I'm your big brother, age wise that is, but still, I'm going to watch your back. So don't go running away on me again, and don't fall for Kai." With that, Ozuma left Ishizu to her room, pondering what just happened in there.
