Chapter 18--> Mirror Effect
The storm to never seem to end, as the pounds of sand kept on pelting the cavern, scaring the young Arabian still. It took all Abassi's strength and patients to keep up with the frightful animal. The others kept as far away form the dancing hooves that they could. Kai kept looking at the storm as it continued to rain brown and tan. Finally the horse calmed down and Abassi was able to leave its side. Making it over to the Blade Breakers, he looked into the storm.
"You should get some rest. We're going to need it to get through there when it's over," he declared. Myrrh was sitting next to the sleeping Malik. She looked over towards the boys as one by one they fells to a sleep as peaceful as possible. Hilary was having a hard time falling asleep. Myrrh got up and walked over towards her.
"Hey, you OK?" asked Myrrh. Hilary sat up and looked over to the Egyptian blader. She leaned against the wall. Hilary nodded. "Malik didn't make this easy for any of you, and I apologize for him," she stated. "He never knew Ishizu and never knew Ra, even though he heard the rumors about the bit beast, and the history of Golden Ra. If he didn't get into that battle, he wouldn't be hurt and maybe we could have got Ishizu back." Hilary looked over towards Myrrh as she looked to the ground.
"He was only trying to do what he thought was best," declared Hilary. "I just can't sleep while knowing Ishizu's out there." Myrrh nodded and leaned up against the wall with Hilary.
"I understand, but if what you guys said about evil scientists and her being with them is completely true, which it is since we've seen it, there is no way they are going to let her die," assured Myrrh. Hilary looked to the ground.
"I know, its just Kai's taking this harder than the rest of us," she stated. Both girls looked over to the boy with two-toned hair. He was standing, looking out into the storm. Myrrh bit her lip.
"He really seems to have feelings for her," declared Myrrh. Hilary grinned and nodded.
"She seems to understand Kai better than any of us, and he seems to act differently around her," Hilary stated. "He never admits it, but its obvious he likes her if not loves her." Myrrh chuckled.
"From all the articles in beyblade magazines about Kai, I never would picture him being a softy for any girl," she laughed. Hilary chuckled too.
"Yea, Kai's just one of a kind. He surprises us a lot," Hilary declared. "I wish not as much, but we're not sure if Ishizu feels the same about Kai."
"What do you mean? We?" asked Myrrh.
"Well, when Tyson and I talk, he's going on about how during the night he hears Kai mumbling in his sleep. And usually he says 'Ishizu' some where in that grumble," smiled Hilary. "Tyson actually thought about how Kai felt and told me instead of the guys. Rei and Max are oblivious to the night dreams unless they hear it themselves."
"That's so cute," commented Myrrh. "So... what's going on with you and Tyson?" Hilary snapped her head quickly at Myrrh.
"What are you talking about!" she squeaked, trying not to rise her loud, as everyone but them and Kai were asleep. "There's nothing going on between Tyson and me. He's a rude, obnoxious slob!"
"But you just said-"
"That was one rare occasion," declared Hilary, firmly. "Once, and only once." Myrrh grinned and nodded.
"Yes, but how does he feel about you?"
"WHAT! How would I know! I don't know what he thinks. Wait a second, I take that back. I don't want to know what he thinks about other than blading. Don't put that thought in my head!" Myrrh giggled, and hooked her long black hair behind her ear. "What's so funny."
"You're saying that it's obvious how Kai likes that girl," stated Myrrh. "But are you sure you're not doing the mirror effect."
"Mirror effect?" questioned Hilary curiously.
"Mirror effect. They taught us that in my psychology class. Its when you relate your feelings, thoughts, or ideas to someone else, but really are talking about you." Hilary's face turned bright red.
"Mirror effect, no, no way!" she exclaimed. "Never." Myrrh nodded her head and smirked, a twinkle escaping her eye.
"Sure sure," she said. Hilary broke.
"Promise you won't tell anyone, especially Tyson?" she asked. Myrrh looked over at Kai, who could be in hearing distance if he wanted.
"What about Kai? Won't he tell Tyson as a means to keep the boy quiet?" asked Myrrh. Hilary looked up at Kai.
"No, I'm almost positive he won't. He doesn't always get along with Tyson, but he wouldn't do that to me," she replied. "At least I hope not."
"If you keep this between you two, I won't," stated Kai, as he walked over towards them. Hilary and Myrrh looked up at the handsome young man, their faces blushing.
"Thanks Kai," stated Hilary. Kai seemed to shrug it off.
"You're going to have to tell him one day," replied Kai, moving up towards the entrance of the cavern, continuing to watch the dancing attack of the sand.
"So Myrrh, is there anyone special in your life?" eyed Hilary, curiously. Myrrh blushed.
"Promise not to laugh?" Hilary crossed her heart. "Well not really, but I've been crushing on Malik for a bit."
"Mr. Grumpypants?" Hilary joked. Myrrh blushed even a brighter red.
"He's not a grumpypants, at least he wasn't until you guys came here. We were actually hitting it off pretty well for a bit," she replied. "It's been an off-on relationship. Sometimes its great and we're ready to announce it officially, and then his parents get all fucked up and pressure him about the ruins. And when they do that, Malik turns into this, horrible person."
"Wow, I'm sorry."
"No worries," declared Myrrh. "I'm hoping that once this adventure is over, Malik will get out of his home, and away from his parents. Then in a few years we can just get away from Egypt."
"Where would you go?"
"Anywhere," stated Myrrh. "I've always wanted to go to Rome, Paris, even Tokyo."
"Hey, that's close to our home town," declared Hilary.
"Really! You're so lucky you don't live in Egypt. Everything is ancestral, historical, propor-ical. Whatever-ical. Really it gets crazy sometimes. At least my parents are more lenient than the Naeems. Then again, we weren't the ones gifted with position of Head Keepers." Hilary nodded.
"Nope, back home, it's all about being a kid," she replied. Myrrh smiled.
"I wish Malik had more of a childhood, maybe he wouldn't be as uptight as he is now," she stated. Hilary nodded.
"Being disciplined isn't too bad though," laughed Hilary. "I wish Tyson wasn't such a lazy pig sometimes."
"Yes, and I wish Malik wasn't as short leashed as he is now," replied Myrrh. "Sometimes." Both girls grinned. Kai sat down at the entrance, tuning out the conversation between the girls. Still one thing was going through his mind. He couldn't help but almost hallucinate, seeing Ishizu next to him, him wrapping his arm around her protectively and securely. He was going to get her back, and she wouldn't leave him again. There was no way Kai was going to let that happen, no, Ishizu meant too much to him...
