It seemed like we hadn't moved for hours. My body crumpled against the floor and wall, his hovering inches in front of mine with one hand woven through my knotted hair. His eyes bore into my confused glare like a drill into steel.
I had to admit; I still loved this man, but on my memories brought happiness to my heart. His presence left something to be desired.
A knock at the door finally drew our eyes apart. I watched silently as the prince turned his head to the door, eyes gleaming with hidden anger. “Yes?”
“It's Bruno. May I enter?” The Prince's hand withdrew from my hair as his legs straightened forcing the rest of his body to follow.
“The door is unlocked.” He half yelled. His head was the only part of him that was turned to the door. His body still loomed over me like a sheltering tree.
I looked to the door as it silently slid open. A blinding beam of light streamed into the room forcing me to cover my eyes or see spots for the next ten minutes. Almost as quickly as the door had opened it shut leaving one more body in the room.
“We have received word that the dark lord has claimed another city in the Water realm. Lord Max requests your advice.” The Guard Captain explained. Anger suddenly flared in me. Were people making special requests for his war tactics? For the war tactics he used against my kingdom? Oh, hell no. He wasn't going to be helping anyone until I got what I wanted.
“Please tell him to use the advice that his war chiefs give him. I can't be running his country for him.” The Prince finally turned his body towards the visiting Captain of the Guard.
“I did, but you know him.” I could hear his armor scrape against it's self as he shrugged. Did he like living in a tin can or was it mandatory to dress like an antenna for people of his status?
“But sir, your duty-“
“My duty at the moment is to the princess of the former Air kingdom.” Bruno fell silent. His eyes fell on me for the first time since he entered the room. I stared back at him with vacant eyes. I hadn't heard my title spoken in ages. It was a bit of a shock to me but I stared back at the disbelieving man with out a hint of emotion.
“You mean that this woman, the one we rescued from the dark lord's minion is your betrothed?” Bruno's face was a priceless image that you would expect to find in one of Kodak's picture albums.
“Yes. Would you mind stopping by Lady Mariah's room and borrowing one of her dresses for Princess Renee. She needs something to wear that is appropriate for public view.” Bruno nodded, his head bobbing like a boat on rough waters. Before he was excused he exited swiftly out of the room. I didn't know I scared people so badly.
Pursing my lips together once the door was firmly shit I glared up at the Prince I felt like being annoying, and I was going to make sure he could tell I was pissy. “If he doesn't go and shit himself I can guarantee he's gonna tell everyone I'm here.” He glanced down at me with a quirked eye brow. I guess women didn't say profanities in this world. What a shame.
“That was the point. Everyone has assumed you dead for the past eight year, but as everyone can now know you are not. I want everyone to know who you are, to know that you aren't to be treated like a sex kitten.”
“Ha, more like a sexist lion.” I grumbled as I rolled my eyes.
“Sexist?” He turned his body back to me with his brow still quirked above his eye.
“Kidding, I like men just as much as the next gal.” I said in my defense. “And if she just so happens to be lesbian then I swear I'll never date any of ya.”
“The mortal world has defiantly had an impact on you.” He shook his head and held his hand out to me, offering to help me up. I remained on the floor motionless.
“Try living there by yourself. It really makes you think twice about being so up tight and proper.” I glared blankly up at him. I was defiantly bitter about having to make it on my own in the human world. It was his entire fault.
“I did, just not nearly as long as you did.” His hand remained stuck in front of my face. I quickly slapped his hand away and looked to the ground.
“You followed me?” I mumbled out.
“I went after you, to bring you back with me. I looked for you for two years before I was forced to return.”
“You must be joking.” I stated flatly. There was no way a demon would willingly go to the mortal world… well, besides me.
“Why do you say that?”
“You destroyed my Kingdom, killed my parents, ruined my sister's future and still thought I would come back to you with open arms? You have to be nuts to think I was that dumb.” Slowly I rolled out my stiff legs and used the wall for support to stand. He drew back suddenly. It was only a few inches but it startled me a bit. I looked to his eyes that were wide with shock. I seemed to be getting that look a lot lately.
“You had a sister?” It was my turn to quirk and eyebrow. I nodded slowly. I thought he knew I had a sister. Maybe it slipped his memory after all the years.
“I have a sister, she isn't dead. My mother gave birth to her a few days before you decided to kill her. Remember?” I challenged him.
“How old is she now?” He almost looked panicked. He never looked panicked. Maybe a bit frazzled or worried, but never panicked.
“Eight. Why? What aren't you telling me?” I stepped away from the wall standing up straight. He was beginning to make me worry just a little.
“… I must go. Get cleaned up,” he motioned to a door I hadn't noticed opposite from the entrance to the hallway. “And when Bruno gets back put on the dress. I will be back soon.” As soon as his last words left his lips he vanished. I heard a click of the door and instantly began to worry even more. I knew that a child had been left with the man known as Bryan, but I didn't think it would have been Alli that they were speaking of. Her powers as a Royal were just surfacing, but any demon could tell she was a demon as well. When I had come to the human world I sealed my demonic powers away so I could hide from any pursuers, Alli was too young at the time to have developed any powers so she remained in control of her own.
I knew I couldn't follow the prince. He was too fast for my body to keep up, and even if I just followed from way behind I could get lost or picked up by another group of perverted men. Staying in the room was my best bet for everything to end happily.
Sighing loudly I headed towards the bathroom. On the way I snagged a candle and lit it using the little bit of magic I knew and could perform.
I had to agree with the prince, I was as dirty as a pig rolling in mud with sharp objects in it. My skin was littered with the cuts and bruises he hadn't healed yet. I didn't understand why he didn't have that old man heal me, but I had a few good guesses. The old man was a blessing though. Ever since he fixed my broken ribs the pain from my cuts and bruises ceased and I felt whole. If I ever saw that man again I was going to give him a big ol' bear hug.
Pushing the door open I found that the prince still had his good tastes about him. Lifting the candle up I glanced around at the tiled walls and floor rugs. Everything was color coded in shades of blue and the classic white. I'd have to say that the thing surprising me more was the shower that stood in the corner and the light switch on the wall to my right. Did they have electricity running through this place? Propane perhaps? Maybe the whole candle charade was just a fetish he had with fire? Probably not, but it was worth a shot.
Reaching out I hesitated to flick the light switch but cursed my self and pressed the switch down with the very tip of my index finger. Almost upon contact with the switch a wave of shot up my arm. I jerked my hand back dropping the candle in the process. I quickly stamped out the flame with my foot and cradled my arm against my chest. The sudden contact with a magic harnessing object had surprised me rather badly, but I was otherwise perfectly fine. Slowly my eyes moved around the room. Candles I hadn't seen in my initial analysis of the room stood lit along the rims of the sink and tub. Other candles lined the shelves and the rack in the shower.
Apparently magic harnessing triggers were all the rage these days. Even the shower knob was triggered by sucking magic from your fingertips, and I had to touch it every couple minutes to keep it running. No doubt that it was because most of my powers were sealed away in my mother's locket back home. If I opened it would all come back to me, so I hadn't seen her face in ages, but it was worth not being found by these people…
I was starting to get a little dizzy from the loss of what little magic I had when I finally finished carefully washing the dirt and dried blood from my skin and hair. Stepping from the shower I wrapped myself up in a towel and shook my hair out like a wet dog in the shower stall. I wasn't so rude as to fling water all over this beautiful room. Now his bedroom on the other hand wasn't nearly as pretty…
Standing in front the mirror I looked over my shoulder at the hardly familiar skin on my back. Scabbed over lash marks marred my skin like thick, red line tattoos. Maybe in the future I could scare my kids and tell them I took a cookie from the cookie jar and it attacked me.
I couldn't remember a thing from the time I was captured, if I was even ever captured. The whip marks didn't bring any memories to my mind. The only thing I could remember from before I woke up in chains was being dragged off to the side and gagged by someone's hand. After that it was nothing.
Heaving a heavy sigh I pulled the towel completely around my body and began the long process of patting my skin dry. Almost as if they were on cue, voices entered the bedroom. I strained to hear their conversation as I continued to dry my torn up skin.
“Where is that woman?” I heard Bruno's voice boom from the other room.
“She's in the bathroom you ninny. Try being more polite, she is our princess after all.” A woman's voice joined Bruno making me wonder who she was. I hadn't seen hide of hair of another woman in this place. It didn't surprise me that one existed down here, but it did surprise me that she was being so familiar with the up tight tin man.
“Your Princess, she's going to be my Queen pretty quickly here.” He retorted. I was hurt. Who wouldn't want me to be their Queen? Ah, sarcasm. It's god's greatest gift to man if you ask me. Women on the other hand were blessed with a period. Ugh.
“How do you know that?” I assumed the woman as Lady Mariah, the one who's dress I was to borrow.
“Tala is going to make her his bride. Hell, he actually went in the mortal world to look for her. There's no way he's gonna let her go after going through that.” I heard a shuffle of feet and a sigh come from the woman.
“No wonder you can't keep a woman around. Just because he wants her doesn't mean she wants him. The only thing Tala has going for him is the fact that he has the former king's powers. Nothing else should make her feel obligated to marry him. She probably doesn't even remember him anymore.” I sighed. She was making a good point to the Guard Captain, but there was much more to it then that.
Flinging the towel around my body I tied a secure knot with the ends of the towel at my side and walked to the door. Slowly pulling the door into the door I stuck my head out too look at the people in the door. Upon seeing me the woman bowed deeply but Bruno stood staring at me idly.
“Princess Renee?” The woman asked politely. Her pink hair stood out in the darkly lit room and the dress she held in her arms shimmed with elegance.
“Yes?” I nodded my head to her once she looked back to me. This whole princess thing was going to take a bit of getting use to, again.
“I'm Lady Mariah. I've brought you some clothes. I hope you don't mind the color blue.” The dress was more of a baby blue then dark blue, but I didn't mind. It was something that would cover these damn cuts and keep people from wondering what the hell happened to me. That was all I needed to know.
