Chapter 2:
Dragon's Fury
(Warehouse/crime scene)
Police officers were investigating the warehouse while the coroners placed Ace's dead body into a body bag and carried it into the ambulance. While the police looked for possible fingerprints and DNA samples around the crime scene, Kai and the Saint Shields hid in the secret room of the warehouse. After the police were gone, Kai and the Saint Shields got out of the warehouse to see blood all over the place.
"Damn. Looks like a nasty slamdown happened out here recently," Dunga said.
"Yeah, there's fucking blood all over the place," Joseph added. "It's extreme overkill."
Ozuma stared at the blood written message on the exterior wall.
"What are you looking at, Ozuma?" Miriam asked.
"This message written in blood," Ozuma replied. "No doubt Tyson wrote this to King and Queen."
"Looks like Tyson's getting into his newfound power," Kai said.
"And I'm getting the feeling Tyson will kill again," Dunga added.
(Wild Cards' hideout)
King, Queen, Jack, and Ten ran into their hideout and slammed the door shut. They were still scared after seeing the corpse of their fellow parts hunter Ace back at the Saint Shields' warehouse. Queen sat down on a metal chair and let out a sigh.
"How did your little hunting trip go?" a female voice asked.
"It was a bust," Jack replied. "We didn't get any parts what so ever, Dr. Kay."
"Where's Ace?" Dr. Kay asked.
"He's dead," Queen replied.
"How did that happen?" Dr. Kay asked.
"Some fuck who calls him the 'Dark Dragon' killed Ace," Jack replied.
"And who might this Dark Dragon be?" Dr. Kay asked.
"We don't know," King replied. "All we know is that he sliced up Ace."
"I'm gonna find that motherfucker!" Jack snarled. "And when I do I'm gonna rip him up like a bad check!"
"Don't say, Jack. Just do," Queen said. "We can't let the Dark Dragon interfere in our plan to rule the Beyblade world."
"Of course not," Jack agreed. "I will find the Dark Dragon, just you watch."
(Airport)
Kai was standing near the window of the airport, waiting for Max to arrive. A plane arriving from New York landed on the run way. Kai saw his old team mate Max making his way through the crowd of people. Kai walked up to Max and greeted him.
"Hey, Max," Kai greeted. "It's been a long time."
"Sure has, Kai," Max agreed.
"You want to have a Beyblade battle? You know, for old times sake?" Kai asked.
"Go for it," Max replied.
"Before we have our battle, Max," Kai said. "I think you should know about something."
"What?" Max asked.
"Not here," Kai replied. "The Saint Shields will tell you at Tyson's."
"At Tyson's place?" Max asked. "But isn't he dead?"
"You'll know what I'm talking about when we get there," Kai replied.
"Sure," Max said.
(Tyson's home)
Kai and Max arrived at the Granger residence. The Saint Shields were staying at the house now that Tyson had turned their warehouse into a crime scene.
"Hey, Max. Long time no see," Ozuma greeted.
"Hi, Ozuma," Max said. "What did you call me for?"
"He called me, too, Max," Ray said.
"Hey, Ray. How's life treating you?" Max asked.
"It's all good," Ray replied with a smile. "Ozuma, why did you call us over here for?"
Just then, Kai stepped out.
"Kai!" Max exclaimed. "Ozuma called you, too?"
"No," Kai replied. "I've been here since the beginning."
"The beginning?" Ray echoed. "The beginning of what?"
"Ozuma knows more than I do, Ray," Kai replied. "Ozuma, explain to them what happened last night."
"All right, Kai. Now you all listen up, because I'm only going to tell you this once," Ozuma said.
Ozuma explained about the events that happened the night before. Upon hearing what Ozuma said, Ray and Max gasped in shock.
"You have got to be shitting me!" Max exclaimed.
"No god damn way!" Ray added.
"It's true," Ozuma said. "Tyson has risen from his grave and he is going to put an end to King and Queen and their gang."
"Where's Tyson now?" Max asked.
"He's prowling the night," Joseph replied. "Or doing whatever dead people walking do."
"When is he coming back?" Ray asked.
"When he's ready," Ozuma replied. "He's still sorting through his memories."
(The city)
Tyson Granger a.k.a. the Dark Dragon prowled through the darkness of the city. Tyson had returned to the material realm for a day and the cops were already after him. The Dark Dragon had busted criminals from robbers to drug dealers but that didn't help ease his lust for revenge. As Tyson was about to call it a night, he saw a dark-haired boy dressed in a white uniform leaving a malt shop. Tyson hid himself in the shadows as the white uniform cladded kid walked into the alley.
Jack walked through the alley while he saw homeless bums begging for pocket change. Jack ignored their pleas and walked into the darkest part of the alley. Jack didn't see anything out of the ordinary except dumped trash cans and stray cats but what really got Jack's attention was a black bird sitting on a dumpster. It cawed at Jack. Jack became spooked as the bird stared at him with its golden brown eyes. Jack walked backwards until he bumped into someone standing behind him. He turned around to see the painted face of a boy dressed in black.
"Well, I'll be a wet bag of shit," Jack said. "It's the Dark Dragon himself."
"You'll be less than that once I'm done with you, asshole," Tyson said with an evil smirk.
"I don't get scared that easily, punk," Jack said pulling out some playing cards from his uniform sleeves.
"What? You gonna make me play fifty-two pick up?" Tyson mocked.
"No, we're gonna play a different card game, doc," Jack retorted. "It's called 'Death of the Dragon.'"
"Really? Well, that's going to be hard, seeing how I'm already dead," Tyson replied, getting his daggers ready to strike.
Jack threw his razor-bladed cards at Tyson but he smacked the cards away with his daggers. Jack did a roundhouse kick but Tyson ducked and elbowed Jack in the face. Jack threw some more razor-bladed cards at Tyson but he easily dodged them. The Dark Dragon slashed Jack across the chest then punched him into a row of trash cans. Jack grabbed his chest as he groaned in pain. Jack looked up to see Tyson holding something in his hand but he didn't fully see the object when the Dark Dragon punched him in the head and knocked him out cold.
When Jack awoke sometime later, he noticed he was not in the alley anymore but in an old warehouse. He tried leave but something kept him from moving. He realized his hands were tied behind his back. He struggled against the restraints but he ended up cutting his own wrists in the process. Jack saw his hands were bound by barb wire. He saw Tyson sitting in a chair as Tyson said, "You're finally awake, Jack."
"Where the fuck am I?" Jack screamed.
"A hangout of mine," Tyson replied. "I just found it. Sweet place to crash, isn't it?"
"What the fuck are you talking about, ass?" Jack asked.
Tyson just chuckled cruelly.
"Let's cut the dragonshit," Tyson said. "Tell me where King and Queen are and I'll see to that your death is quick and painless."
"Fuck you, you painted-up freak job!" Jack yelled.
"Wrong choice of words, Jack," The Dark Dragon smirked. "You better tell me or else I cut you all over."
"You don't scare me, motherfucker," Jack retorted.
"We'll see about that," Tyson replied, pulling out some razor sharp cards from his coat pocket.
Jack just glared at Tyson.
"What the fuck are ya gonna do with those?" Jack asked.
"Thousand Cuts," Tyson replied with a cruel smile.
"No!" Jack screamed. "Don't do this! Please don't!"
"You have no right to beg for your life," Tyson hissed. "Not after all the lives you and your masters ruined or ended."
Tyson tore Jack's uniform off and gave the helpless Wild Card tiny cuts all over his body. Jack screamed as blood dripped from his wounds.
"Yes, scream," Tyson whispered, a sadistic glee appeared on his face and in his eyes.
After losing a quarter amount of blood, Jack passed out. Tyson walked out of the warehouse and left Jack to bleed to death. It was this rather disturbing sight that King, Queen, and Ten saw for themselves when they went looking for Jack.
"Oh, my God! Jack!" Queen shouted in fright.
Ten shivered at the gruesome scene.
"That Dark Dragon bastard is gonna get it!" King vowed. "If it's the last thing I do, I'll rip his spine out!"
"Leave some for me, King," Queen said.
"Let's leave this place," Ten suggested. "It feels . . . creepy."
The remaining Wild Cards left the warehouse while Tyson's pet bird watched them from the rafters. Through the bird's eye, Tyson watched King, Queen, and Ten running out of the warehouse in fright. The Dark Dragon smiled evilly and went straight home. Tyson returned to his dojo/home sometime later. As Tyson opened the door, he was suddenly greeted by his two old friends, Max and Ray.
"Tyson, is that you?" Max asked in shock.
"No way! You can't be Tyson!" Ray declared.
"Actually, I can and I am," Tyson replied with a frightening grin. If it weren't for the ghoulish red-and-black paint on his face, it would have been a friendly smile.
"You can't be him," Max said. "Tyson died a long time ago."
"That's right," Tyson confirmed sadly. "I did die. That's why I'm here."
"Who did this to you?" Ray asked.
"King and Queen," Tyson spat, his voice filled with rage and hatred at the memory of the parts thieves.
"They're gonna pay for what they did!" Max shouted. "No one murders our friends and gets away with it!"
"Indeed, they will pay," Tyson replied. "They're going to pay because I am going to hunt them down like the animals they are and slowly take them apart, piece by piece."
"How'll Hilary react when she sees you like this?" Ray asked.
"I don't intend to see her again," Tyson replied sadly. "As much as I would like to, that's not what I came back here for. I came back for vengeance and that's it. I don't think I'll be able to stay on this plane of existence once my mission is finished, so seeing Hilary again would be too painful for me."
"But it would be nice to see her again, Tyson," Kai said matter of factly.
"And that is where I'm different from the Tyson you knew," Tyson said. "The Tyson you knew wouldn't have cared if he couldn't stay on Earth for very long, as long as he saw Hilary again before he had to leave. I can't . . . afford that. I can't give in, no matter how much I'd like to."
"It's not like she'll be scared of you or anything," Ozuma said.
"It's not that," Tyson replied. "I just can't . . . see her."
Tyson went into his house as he said, "I'm callin' it a night. See you guys in the morning."
"Night, Tyson," Joseph replied.
(Hilary's home)
Hilary was sleeping in her bed while she moved about and shook violently. For the past few days, she was having nightmares. She hadn't told her parents or anyone else bout them. Hilary hadn't ate anything and stayed home from school due to her physical and mental anguish. The nightmares were about Tyson's death. Every night, the same event, but a slightly different twist. She never saw who killed him, though, nor any clear details. The only thing that was clear was the pain, both physical and emotional. This night was no different. In Hilary's latest nightmare, she wouldn't see Tyson dead. She would see him as something much more.
(Nightmare)
Hilary ran through an abandoned street that was covered in filth and blood. She panted big time as she ran. Hilary saw a dark figure standing in the middle of the street as she stopped running. The mysterious stranger had his back turned towards her. Hilary crept quietly toward the stranger and then put her right hand on the guy's shoulder. The figure instantly turned around and that was when she recognized the figure.
The dark figure was Tyson.
(End Nightmare)
That was when Hilary woke up with a gasp. Hilary wiped the sweat from her forehead as she sighed. She gazed at her clock, it was seven in the morning. Hilary couldn't take it anymore. She had to tell somebody about her nightmares or else she would self-destruct. Alas, it was time to go to school. She knew she couldn't hide away in her corner forever. At school, Hilary saw Kenny speaking to Dizzy on his laptop. She wanted to tell him about these nightmares she had lately.
"Kenny?" Hilary asked.
"Yeah, Hilary?" Kenny asked softly. "I haven't seen you in a while."
"I've been at home for the last 3 days," Hilary replied. "I need to talk to you about something."
"Sure thing. What is it, Hilary?" Kenny asked.
"I've been having nightmares," Hilary replied. "In each one of them, I see Tyson dying. The details are never clear. All that is clear is the pain."
"Hmm...what was your recent dream?" Kenny asked.
"I was in an alley full of filth and blood," Hilary replied. "I saw someone there with his back to me. I crept up to him, touched him on the shoulder, and when he turned around I saw Tyson's face."
"You saw Tyson in your dreams?" Kenny asked.
"Yes," Hilary replied. "When I saw Tyson in my dream, it was like he changed somehow."
"Changed how?" Kenny asked.
"It's almost like the Tyson I knew and loved was gone and some evil spirit took control of him," Hilary replied.
"Evil spirits?" Dizzy asked. "You mean like one of those Cyber bit-beasts, or something like Black Dranzer?"
"No," Hilary replied. "It was something much worse."
"This is something I ought to check into," Dizzy said.
"You might be distressed by hearing this, but two people were murdered in the past few nights," Kenny replied. "They were both members of King and Queen's parts-hunting gang the Wild Cards."
"When did this happen?" Hilary asked.
"On consecutive nights," Kenny replied. "The last murder was last night."
"The strangest thing is the killer left behind a calling card: a picture of a crow drawn in blood," Dizzy added.
"Dizzy, see what you can find out about crows," Kenny said.
"Sure thing, Chief," Dizzy replied.
"What would knowing about crows be able to tell us about this killer?" Hilary asked.
"I heard something about a strange legend of crows bringing people back from the grave in the name of revenge," Kenny replied.
"Revenge for what?" Hilary asked.
"For their murders," Dizzy replied.
"The only way to find out for sure is to find Ozuma," Kenny said.
"Is he an expert on crows?" Hilary asked.
"Well, he's familiar with legends and myths," Kenny replied.
"Where's Ozuma now?" Hilary asked.
"Who knows?" Kenny replied. "One of the murders occurred in the warehouse where he and the other Saint Shields were staying while they were here."
It was then Kenny recieved an e-mail on his laptop. The e-mail was from Kai. Kenny opened the e-mail and read it.
"What is it, Kenny?" Hilary asked.
"I got an e-mail from Kai," Kenny replied. "Kai wants us to be at Tyson's house after school."
"Ok," Hilary said, trying not to let on just how hard it would be for her to go to the place where her secret love had lived and died.
After school, Hilary and Kenny went to Tyson's home. When they got there, they were greeted by Kai and co. It had been a long time since Hilary and Kenny had last seen the surviving members of the Bladebreakers at the funeral.
"Hey, Hilary," Max greeted. "It's been awhile."
"Same here," Hilary replied.
After being greeted by the Bladebreakers and the Saint Shields, Hilary asked, "Can you guys tell me why you called me and Kenny here?"
"Tyson's back," Kai replied in a simple, straightforward manner.
"What?" Hilary screamed. "Are you fucking joking?"
"No," Kai replied. "I saw him. I saw him climb out of his grave. You don't believe me? I'll take you there."
"I'll go in there by myself," Hilary said.
"Sure," Kai conceded.
Hilary walked into the house by herself. When Hilary wandered quietly through the darkness, she checked various rooms until she saw the room where Tyson was murdered. She saw a boy dressed in black sitting on the blood-stained floor. Hilary walked toward the boy as she asked, "Tyson? Is that you?"
"Yeah," the boy replied. "It's me."
Hilary kneeled down next to Tyson and hugged him as tears started to stream from her eyes. "Oh, Tyson. I can't believe you're alive."
Tyson looked at her, reddish-brown eyes burning with mixed sorrow and joy. "I'm not really alive. I don't know what I am but I know that I'm not alive."
"I don't care," Hilary replied. "I should have told you this before you died but I was too afraid. I won't keep silent this time. I love you, Tyson."
There was silence. It lasted only a few seconds but it felt like an eternity to Hilary. Just as she was about to give up all hope of Tyson returning her feelings, she felt a pair of blackened lips on hers. When Tyson kissed her, Hilary felt her fear of rejection melt away. Hilary placed her right hand on Tyson's cheek as she deepened the kiss. Afterwards, they pulled away and a huge smile appeared on Hilary's face.
"I'll take that you love me too," Hilary stated.
"Yes, Hilary," Tyson replied. "I do love you."
Hilary could have cried for sheer joy. Hearing Tyson say those words was a dream come true. For the first time in a long time, she felt . . . genuinely happy.
