Chapter 22
Lee placed his little brother in one of the guest rooms to rest. He thought that sleeping off the pills side effects would be better than having his brother walking around with them; plus, if Miki was right and his brother did have a seizure, it's better that he doesn't move around too much. Passing by his brothers room he paused seeing that the Russian hadn't actually left, but is instead inside of his brothers bedroom cleaning it back up.
"Kai?"
The other boy just glanced over his shoulder from the closet where he is hanging up all of Rei's floor-bound clothing. "I want to know what's wrong with Rei."
Lee came into the room, leaning his back against the wall. "...I'd like to tell you- really, I think out of everyone in my brothers life you have the most impact; he wouldn't admit it- but it's true."
"So than why don't you tell me," he places a shirt on the hanger then drops the hanger to the bar. "I can't stand idly by watching someone that I care about suffering."
"I like that you love my brother so much, but really, if Rei wants to tell you- he will. He didn't even want me to know until I found out for myself.... He kept this big secret to himself for all these years and the only other people who knew were our parents and they're...." He didn't want to say it. "Anyway, Rei will tell you. But for now, this has to stay between family, that way the problem isn't so out in the air for it to catch peoples ears and have them picking on my brother making it worse."
Kai nods. For a while they remain quiet; Kai hanging up the clothes and Lee watching him until he moved to pick up the knocked down pictures, trophies, and posters. The two boys worked to fix their loved one's room until it was nearly clean. Raion came from hiding to watch them and slink between the feet of his former owner. The distraction got Kai to open his mouth.
"He asked me, the other day, why I like him- if I would continue to like him, if he were different...."
"What did you say?" He prayed it wasn't anything upsetting.
"I told him I would love him if he were missing an eyeball, leg, or anything.... I don't care what happens to him- that will never change."
..........Maybe I should tell Kai, he seems to really care about Rei; but then again, telling him might really upset my brother. There's no way to win- hopefully he won't have to tell anyone and all of this will be suppressed enough for him to live a normal life again. Smiling, he said. "I'm glad that you said that. I really think you're good for him."
"And Tyson?" He had to know. If Lee is on his side, than maybe Rei will change his mind about Tyson; he seems to really think a lot of his brother and listens to what he says.
Lee shrugged. "I like Tyson alright... I think he's a bit shallow, though, but who isn't now adays."
I used to think you were shallow. Comments the Russian, mentally. "Can you call me when Rei wakes up, I have to be somewhere right now and I wanna make sure he's ok."
"Sure." Placing a poster back onto the wall, making a mental note to replace the poor ripped item, he asked. "Do you know what set him off?"
"...Back there, on the street, he was really tired and," he shrugs. "Fell asleep outside- he didn't hit the ground or anything but, I brought him home." Crossing the room to the door, he waved goodbye to the older male. "After that I lay him in here and went to make tea. Next thing I knew he was freaking out." Lee nods to that. "I have to go- something I need to take care of. See you."
"Yeah." Lee thought it was odd for his brother to just fall asleep like that, but then again all of this was odd to him. He didn't know what to do any more than Rei's therapist. All they could do was wait for this specialist and clue their uncle in on what's been going on. Looking around the room to inspect for tidiness, he picked up the kitten and walked downstairs; he can always clean his room later, right now he just wants to bone up on his brother's condition a bit more.
Rei's golden eyes stare at the wall closest to him. He listened quietly to his brother and Kai when they were speaking. He wants to know... what's wrong with me. How can I tell him, though, how can he understand? He's just like Tyson- perfect. Nothing wrong with him... Nothing will ever be wrong with him..... Rrrrr! I hate this so much! I just want to be a normal boy- just like everyone else and yet... all because of some dumb incident-... He clenched his fist, eyes tightening closed until they open slowly, sadness lacing every line around them.
I can't beat myself up- but it's so easy..... I wouldn't be feeling this badly if I know that Tyson isn't mad at me. I'll apologize for not sitting with them, I'll say I'm sorry for going out with Kai- whatever! Just as long as he forgives me-....
His cell phone went off in his pocket; reaching back, he picks it out and flips it open. "Hello?"
"Rei. It's me."
A smile marred his face. "Tyson? Does this mean you're talking to me again?"
"I wasn't ever not talking to you, I was just... mad! I've always wanted to skip days with you guys to just goof off and it makes me mad that that Kai beat me to it first."
"I'm sorry."
"...Hm? You ok? You sound kind of tired."
The boys teeth, show themselves in a cracked smile as he says. "That's because I am tired."
"Oh.... Rei, you don't have to sit with those losers- we're not kicking you out of the table or anything."
"Thank you."
"No need, you know I love you right?"
He frowned a bit. "Sometimes it's hard to tell."
"Yeah well... You make it hard."
He nods. "You wanna hook up later after I'm off work?"
"Sure. When are you getting off?"
"Some time around... Ten, I think. Yeah. Ten."
"Cool. I'll be waiting- and Rei?"
"Hm?" The sound barely audible through his drowsiness.
"I'm not gonna give you trouble anymore with your friends- I just wish that you'd put Ozuma and me first in your life."
"Mmhm." The phone slipped from his hands. He was out for the afternoon. * * *
Lee and Rei spoke to their uncle before Neko-kin opened that night. Stan was surprised at first, he really didn't understand what his nephews were talking about. Rei seemed perfectly fine! But to have his boys come at him with something like this was just- a blow away! Reaching out, he pulled the boy into his arms, hugging him.
"Rei," he spoke softly as if he were sending him off to join the army and it was his last day at home. "Why didn't you ever tell us until now? How could you keep something like this a secret?"
Rei closed his eyes, drinking in the feeling of being loved. But everything comes to an end, and he pulled away. "I had to."
"Why? Why would you think you had to be alone in this?"
Rei shrugged. "It's stupid... I thought that... I would shame the family and be disowned." He sighed. "Kon's are contenders... and contenders can't have problems. I have too many to count." He shuddered when his brothers hand went through his hair by surprise.
"That's not true. We're human just as anyone else and we all love you no matter what, nephew."
The young boy sniffles, looking up into his uncles big sullen face. "Really?"
"Of course." He gave him a squeeze. "Don't ever think otherwise."
"Thank you." He smiled the best he could. I may not be able to tell him the whole truth about me, but I'm glad that he at least knows this much. Wiping the tears from his eyes. "Hey, let's stop getting so sappy here and get some work done- the people are lining up down the street already." He pulls away from the man and grabs his apron.
"Work. With food?" Lee raised his hands. "This is where I take my leave, I have a date." He rubbed his brothers shoulders, whispering in the boys ear that he was proud of him for telling his uncle about his condition. He also said that he would see him later tonight and could share dreams again like when they were little kids.
Rei had to laugh about that. When they were younger Lee would slip into his bed with him and they would count to three before knocking heads together, pretending it made them unconscious leaving them in the same dream state so they could be together. Sometimes he missed those days- actually, he missed those days nearly everyday! But there was no time to think about things like that right now. He had to work.
The night pressed on and patron after patron came in. The young Kon must have prepared 70 plates by the time it hit eight o'clock. Brooklyn's family walked in around 8:25 that night and Rei was more than happy to see him- infact, he was more than happy to see anyone! This was possibly the best night of his life! His uncle knows, his brother knows- everything is how it should be now.
"Hi Brooklyn."
The red head smiled at him. "Hi. You seem well."
"Considering you're spying on me for Tyson- yes."
Looking down in shame, he scratched the back of his head. "Yeah. Sorry about that."
Waving it off, Rei set their plates down. "Forget about it. I'm just messing with you."
"Haha, you're really different. What's changed? You and Tyson make up?"
"Oh no. But Uncle said that I can get off early so I'm gonna go see him about that-..." Yanking the boy from his seat he embraced him, rocking back and forth. "He knows Brooklyn, he knows!" He began to laugh.
Rubbing his, still hopeful in making him his, crush on the back Brooklyn smiled. "That's great! When did he find out?"
"Before the restaurant opened. Can you believe how well he took it?"
At a loss for words, he just laughed and enjoyed the hug. The psychic boys parents watched this display with warm smiles. They had no clue about either of the boys preferences, all they know is that it's sweet to see two boys so happy over something that sounded completely foolish.
Clearing his throat, a rather dressy looking gentleman put his hand up. "Son, it's nice that you and you're friend are so happy, but I think it's best you eat before your food gets cold."
"Oh. Sorry." Taking his seat, he smiles at Rei. "I'm really happy for you."
"Thanks.... I should be going now. Enjoy your meals." Stepping away from the table, he walked into the kitchen where his uncle is; taking his apron off as he approached. "Uncle, I'm going now."
"Alright my boy." Wrapping his arms around him, he pats his shoulder after letting him go. "We'll start your therapy tomorrow, as soon as possible."
"You're not gonna open?"
"No. I think this place could use a day off as well. And I don't want you working at the theater tomorrow either- I'll call Mr. Shibata about that."
"Okay."
"Good. I'll see you at home. Good night, nephew."
"Night, uncle." Taking his leave, he pats his friend on the shoulder as he goes by. The night air was so rewarding as the cool breeze touched his face. He took in a deep breath and let it out with a smile. Maybe this is what I need. To have them know- to have everyone know. And then maybe I can go back to being normal. Dr. Yang once told me that the best possible medicine for me was to have the people who love me around so that they can keep me happy. He crossed the street. I shouldn't rely on them for too long, but when I need them it would be nice to have them here. So yes, after we make up I'm going to tell Tyson about my condition. He'll understand and he won't hate me.
Smelling his arms, he frowned. Maybe I should go change first. Knocking a fist to his head, he shakes it. Duh. Tyson loves it when I come to him smelling like food, hahaha. Hurrying down the street to his boyfriends house, he tugs at the band in his hair until it falls free. I'll really make him have no choice. The food scent, the hair, and of course nothing but unconditional love and honesty.
Across another street he goes and then down. He's a block away from the Granger Dojo, so he starts at a run when he sees a familiar sign flashing near by. I hope he's at home. He checks his watch. I may have told him later, but he should still be at home on a school night. Turning the corner, he sees the home and picks up the pace a bit more. Kinda wish I wasn't getting such a nervous ball in my gut. But I will tell him, and if he's spent, he'll really listen. Panting, he opens the door to the large building and steps inside. When he's up to the walkway of the house, he slips his feet from his shoes and sets them under the walkway.
Hearing Grandpa laughing in the living room at some television show, he smiles. He's such a good guy, he knows about me and Tyson and he loves his grandson anyway. I hope my uncle takes it as well as he does if that truth about me has to come out tomorrow. Walking slowly so that he can catch his breath, he smoothes down any fly aways that may have come up while he was running, then he checked his breath. With a nod, he steps in front of Tyson's bedroom door, sliding it over then he steps inside.
"Tyson I-...." His eyes went wide, at first from what he heard, and once adjusted to light, at what he saw. A naked Tyson, behind a naked Max, riding the boy as though he were the keys to his car. Max moaned arching into Tyson's body, head on his shoulder. They hadn't seemed to notice him since they were still thrusting and moaning away. It can't be.... thinks the boy, stepping back toward the door. He isn't- he wouldn't!
Max made a moan that sounded oddly familiar to Rei. Flashes of a night before came rushing back to him. Tyson had said he he had to help Grandpa clean the place, and that he was being chased around... that is why he was out of breath but.... he heard a moan- that moan, he was listening to right now. He continued, blindly stepping back. Tyson is... cheating on me with... Max.... all this time... all that time.....
His legs banged into something before he reached the door causing the two to look up. Rei froze, chest heaving as if it were trying to keep his heart from ripping out. Tyson looked horrified. Max remained neutral, but when he realized what was going on, he jumped up to a sitting position.
Tyson held his hand out to keep his boyfriend from leaving. He climbs off the bed, grabbing his robe to cover himself with; Max does the same. "Rei! It's not what you think, hang on!" Following him outside into the yard, he snatches the boy by the arm and turns him around. "Will you listen to me!?"
"Ha! Listen to what?! How you're cheating on me with Max because I wasn't a good enough boyfriend for you! Or how I brought this on myself because I'm friends with Kai! .....Or maybe you just wanna ask me to join the two of you..."
"Would you?" Asks Tyson innocently. Rei gaped at that and turned around just to be grabbed again. "Rei please don't be mad, you really don't understand."
"I shouldn't have to understand!" He is raising his voice now, calling attention to the place.
"Rei, seriously," begins Max. "You don't understand."
"Aahahahahahaha...... Then make me understand. I don't want to- but you two seem to have worked up some story so I might as well hear it."
Max glanced at Tyson, then back to Rei. "Listen, truth is- I should be the one mad at you."
"What?!"
"Tyson and I have been dating for two years," Max explains. "You came along and he told me that he thought you were cute and wanted to give you a try."
"Yeah, I told Max that, if things didn't work out with me and you I would stay with him." Chimed his ex-boyfriend.
"Since Tyson and I never broke up, you were the one coming between us but I didn't care because-..."
"Because why would anyone come between the two of you." Says Rei. His eyes are dark and bitter. "....Tell me something Max, does it hurt?"
"Does... what hurt?"
"Your heart? Does it hurt to know that Tyson slept with me? That I've countlessly slept with him?"
The two boys look at each other with a shrug. "No. Not really."
"We're used to this Rei.... I've slept with Ozuma too."
"Ozuma... Does Ozuma know about this?"
Tyson didn't answer, he just looked down. That was good enough for Rei. Turning away he spoke as he left the building, forgetting about his shoes. "I loved you Tyson. I really did.... I had so many plans for us in the future- I'd save up enough money to get us a place and we'd live together and not care what the world thought about us... But I see now that there never was an us. I was just a test drive for you and since one of my tires fell off I'm no good anymore."
"It.... It isn't like that Rei."
"Then I wish you could explain it to me in a way that doesn't make me feel sick to my stomach...." He stops walking. "How many times have you two done this behind my back?" When they didn't answer he snapped at them. "How many times!?"
"A lot.... Mostly at school." Answers Max.
Nodding, he throws his hands into the air. "No wonder your teachers kept saying you were late- no wonder you came out of the building every other day- late!" Swallowing hard, he shakes his head then leaves, he had to get out of there.
"Rei!?" He looked back when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Just let him go, Tyson. He'll understand some day." Says Max.
The bruised boy wandered into the quiet place he has to call home. He wished he didn't see that, he wished that he had gone to Tyson later on, then he would have missed the whole show and everything would be fine. His feet walk tiredly up the stairs and into the bathroom; dropping down beside the toilet he emptied the nausea in his stomach, coughing from things that got caught. Wiping his mouth, he washed up before going into his bedroom.
"I should have known you'd be here." He greets his friend, Crack. "You won't even let me have this one moment to myself, will you?" Heading over to the dresser where the broken man was looking, he notices a knife sitting atop the dresser. "A present..."
Crack smiled, bits of broken teeth showing. "Take it." He nods.
Rei grabs the knife looking, all the while, at his reflection in the mirror.
You're so beautiful, Rei. He hears his ex-boyfriend say.
You know Rei, you're better looking than I thought you were. Says Ozuma.
"Always, good-looking, Rei." He says to himself. "Always, cute, Rei." His shirt falls away one freed arm at a time. The knife sliding along his body with every word he remembers.
Tyson is panting, whispering into his ear. You're really hot, Rei. I've never met anyone as good-looking as you are.
Trickles of blood drizzle down his chest to the floor and rim of his pants.
"Maybe he was right all the time.... I am nothing.... I am nothing to anyone but a pretty face..... Who cares if I'm going crazy, as long as I've still got a cute face and nice ass."
All the while Crack is nodding, smiling, touching the boys hair. Rei noticed that... he's always had people playing in it- always.
Rei, people will treat you like a king for the rest of your life because you're good-looking. Says Tala. Why would you worry about no one liking you?
If he were paying any attention to the door, he might have heard his uncle walking in. He might have seen the rage in the mans eyes as he came up behind him and he might have been able to avoid what happened next.........
