Chapter four

“First off,” Kai began, “Where are you from?”

“Good question,” Rei said, “I'm from a small village in China.”

Max then piped up, “New York City.”

Kai was shocked, they seemed happy to tell him things. Why?

Rei smiled.

“I knew you would ask that. I became a vampire when I was sixteen years old in 1808.”

“And I in 1838,” Max interjected.

“So I am 213 years old,” Rei said, “And Max is 182 years old.”

Kai was confused. They seemed so young! While Kai was thinking, Rei came and sat down next to him.

“Come-on,” he teased, “Respect your Elders.”

He put his arm around Kai and he jumped.

“If I'm going to help you,” Kai said, “I have to go home and get help.”

Rei nodded.

“We'll come. Its night.”

“So this is where you live,” Max commented, “Nice place.”

Kai nodded as he opened the front door.

“Tyson? Kenny? Are you guys here?

Tyson came out of coat closet and said, “Who are they?”

“Vampires,” Kai said bluntly, “We have to help them with a problem they have.”

Tyson paled.

“Why bring them here?” he asked, “To my home?”

“Our home,” Kai corrected, “Kenny and I pitch in on the rent.”

Tyson nodded and Max walked up to him.

“Hi!”

“Hello!” Tyson gasped out.

“You're more calm than your friend. He tried to kill us.”

Tyson had to smile at that.

“He doesn't like vampires.”

“We noticed,” Rei chuckled, “But I got him to calm down.”

Tyson smiled bigger and Kai shook his head. This sucked.

“I'll get Kenny,” Kai said going to the study.

A hand on his arm told him that Rei was following him to the study.

After everything had been explained, it was decided that Rei and Max were going to stay in the house, and they didn't even have to pitch in on the rent. Lucky bastards.

But Rei wasn't sure that Kai wasn't going to stake them through out the day. Even though Rei though that he had gotten through to Kai, he couldn't be too sure.

Rei was walking through the house, he opened a black door and looked inside. It was a bedroom and Rei saw a figure lying on the bed, sleeping After a second, he realized that it was Kai.

After a few minutes, Kai looked up and saw Rei staring at him.

“What are you doing here?” Kai snapped in anger, “This is my room!”

“Sorry,” Rei said trying to come up with an excuse, “I was wondering why you couldn't sleep.”

“How did you know?”

“I'm a vampire, I can sense things like that.”

Of course Rei knew that this was a bunch of bull, but Kai didn't.

“Oh.”

Apparently he didn't guess either.

Rei sat down next to Kai on the bed and said, “What's wrong?”

“I'm fine,” Kai said coolly, “Just can never can sleep after a fun in with a vampire.”

“Are you going to be okay?”

“I'll be fine.”

What were these feelings Rei was having for this mortal? Why did Rei even care?

“So,” Kai said quietly, “are you going to let me toss and turn?”

Rei pretended to think about it.

“Is it okay if I stay?” he asked Kai pretending to be scared, “I can't relax either.”

Kai sighed, the last thing he wanted to do was share a bed with a vampire. But he agreed anyway.

“Fine,” Kai snapped, “Just don't kill me.”

Rei smiled, he lay down next to Kai and said, “Sleep well.”
