Akane counted the hours on her fingers. One to get there. One to get through security. Two to Vienna. One to get to their hotel for the evening. “It will be five hours.”
“I'll be transformed by then!” the red head panicked. “I can't get on that plane!”
“What if we put you in a doggy crate?” Walter asked. He had to get them on that plane, any way, form or fashion.
“No. I won't look like a normal dog! I'll....oh God!” Amy turned into Koga's chest and buried her hands. “I have to stay here at least another day. I'll catch a morning flight and meet you, that way I can land before dark.”
Walter was at a lost of what to do. Akane rubbed her forehead, pinching the skin together and wandering in a small circle. “We can stay another day in the flat. I'll call Vienna, ask for an extension.”
“They seemed pretty intent on having you there,” Walter said in hopes that she would at least leave herself and let the others stay one more day.
“What? So they can tell me what a marvelous job I've done and put me on some stupid assignment so I won't dig any deeper into the hanyou problem?” Akane rubbed her thighs. “I'm thinking of quitting anyway. Going solo.”
Sesshoumaru let a single eyebrow raise. What Akane was suggesting was certainly interesting. She had been with them for years, one of their best operatives. Would she really let her job go? Walter piped up. “Please Akane, don't quit. Integra needs your intelligence. You're the only tie we have to the UN. You need to make that meeting.”
Akane hadn't thought of that, but the idea wasn't going to stop her. “Walter, I don't work for Hellsing. I'm not even sure what Hellsing even stands for. All I know is that you guys have been killing vampire freaks lately and so the enemy of my enemy has to be my friend.”
“Well...yes.”
“But I also know Walter, that at anytime, our little friendship could change. I am not a fool.”
Walter didn't say anything. She was right. As long as she was amiable, they would continue this beneficial gentleman's agreement. If she ever turned on Hellsing, Alucard would have to take her down. They looked at each other in complete understanding.
“You could go,” Koga said. “Amy and I can stay here if you'll let us. We'll just take a London flight to New York instead of a Ramstien.”
Akane didn't like that either. “I was hoping you would meet Hizumeha and I for dinner, maybe come back to Japan with us for a while. We would love to have you.” She smiled mischievously. “I was planning a big family reunion. I thought we might have a baby shower...or two.” She rubbed the back of her neck. “I might as well come clean with it, 'cause everyone will know soon enough. Koga, you're going to be a father. Again.”
Koga slumped to the ground. His knees had given out on him. It was one thing to know he was father to a bunch of werewolf hanyous, but Akane?...Sesshoumaru's ex-wife? He looked at her first, then looked to Sesshoumaru who only looked as still and blank as ever. Koga couldn't tell if he was mad, sad, glad or just pissed off. This meant she was part of his pack now by the old demon law. He tried to say something, but only a stuttering drool came out.
Akane understood his stress and felt bad for lying to him and everyone else, but she didn't want to reveal the true father. No one would understand, but they could understand artificial insemination. It was the first time in her life she ever lied about anything big. Little white lies, oh sure. Lies that if she got caught in them would not matter, sure. But something of this magnitude...there was a first time for everything. “Don't worry Koga,” she said patting him on the head. “This works out really great for me and Hizumeha. We have been trying for decades. You've given us something we have really, really wanted.”
Sesshoumaru could feel a muscle in his eye twitch. He didn't know what to think of it all. First she talks about being free, then she talks about staying with Hizumeha. Then she sets herself up with a London flat so she can see her vampire lover. She really didn't know what she was doing with her life. She only seemed to be grabbing everything greedily. She was going to try and have it all.
That sounded familiar. He had done it too once and found out that trying to juggle everything usually meant something dropped and shattered. Sesshoumaru steeled his back and continued to look all stoic. He would not let his concern for her overcome him in front of everyone. He looked over to the butler, who seemed to have a similar idea. He was a blank face too.
Koga grabbed at Amy's hand on one side and Akane's on the other, lifting himself up and looking at them both confused. “I thought I was prepared for news like this, but I'm not doing so hot am I?”
Amy just hugged him and kissed his cheek. “Just think, our baby will have lots of brothers and sisters to play with.”
“Yeah. I suppose. If we ever find them all.”
“We will,” Akane embraced the two. “If they are anything like their father, their loud mouths and boorish ways will help us find them easily.”
Koga pushed at Akane, who pushed back and they started some sort of play wrestling like little kids. Sesshoumaru was awfully glad the two distant cousins had always looked at each other more as brother and sister than anything else. When he had seen enough, he made a coughing sound to pull them out of it. “You need to make a call, don't you Akane?”
“Oh...yeah.” She got up off Koga's chest, where she had pinned him with her thighs around his neck, her knees boxing his ears while she leaned back and tickled under his cream colored cotton sweater. Amy had taken to crossing her arms over her chest and looking at the two angrily. When Koga looked up to her, he looked at her apologetically, and she grabbed him by the ear and twisted hard. “Watta ye think ye doin'?” the hot Irish woman yelled. “I nevr' wanna see her on top ya' again! Next time, kick 'er ass!”
Koga knew for sure he was in love then. She was as fiery an alpha female as he had ever seen. What she didn't have in demonic strength, she made up for in spunk.
Akane picked up the phone and dialed the airport. She got Koga and Amy's flight rescheduled for the next morning. They would fly to Budapest and stay the evening, then make the connecting flight to Tokyo the next day. Picking up her bag, she gave them hugs and kisses and with Sesshoumaru in tow, Walter took them to Heathrow. “You left them your cell number, right?” Sesshoumaru asked her in the car. Akane nodded. “If they need anything, they will call.”
