A/N: This is some sort of AU because I added my own OC and hopefully it's not too mary-sue(ish), though I'm pretty sure I do not look or act or even think (or squeal) like the OC, in other word, it's not my self-insert. And OC pairing is going to happen here sooner or later so those who doesn't like this kind of story (cheap material) DO NOT READ!!

HOUKIBOSHI

A/N: This takes place when Urahara Kisuke is still in Soul Society and acted as the 12th Squad Captain. His vice captain is Kurotsuchi Mayuri. My OC is one of shinigami that serve under Urahara. BTW, maybe there would be implied yaoi.

Pairings: Urahara + OC1 (Akiko), Urahara + OC2 (Shiho), Urahara x Yoruichi, Urahara + Mayuri

Chapter I: Urahara's three favorite subordinates

Kurotsuchi Mayuri does not like his captain because Urahara Kisuke is a shady character and even a bit perverted and he is irresponsible because he kept slacking off his duty. It made everyone in the division, well most; are busy trying to chase time to finish what their captain has abandoned.

Nevertheless, Urahara is a genius. Mayuri is always wonder, how is it that the captain is able to create new experiment and hardly fail, when all he does is slacking off whenever he wants? It annoyed him that the captain can do everything without as much effort while he, on the other hand, usually met failure in his experiment.

Mayuri is upset because somehow, he has the urge to defeat Urahara by making much more improved technology research and yet as always when he reported his report to his captain, Urahara is able to find the miscalculation in his report with just one look.

Mayuri is looking for Urahara's approval and does not want him to treats him like he is his golden boy, which in a way he did his golden boy since he's the one of two that actually could equal him with their shared passionate interest in science. He hates it when people gossip about his relation with his captain; they seem to think the captain spoilt him for his good look instead of his brain.

Urahara Kisuke is a nice captain. He treated everyone under him with kindness and patience, always displaying a warm but guarded smile. Rarely, we could see him actually scolding his subordinates even when they made mistakes. He knew Mayuri's little obsession about him but doesn't say anything.

Only to those whom he really does care or interested with, he would let out his playful nature. That is why he likes to tease his vice-captain and other people. Even though he admits that Mayuri is his golden boy, that does not mean he mistreat others. He would compliments and encourage others when they least expect him too.

What Urahara likes other than Mayuri's passion for science and his smartness is his good look. He has always been a sucker for pretty faces, be it boys or girls. He likes to tease them by showing his affection (teasing with a compliment, making them blush and squirm uncomfortable; sometime treats them like one would do to a kid like ruffling their hair, pinch their cheek and makes them annoyed with him) for them openly in front others, inadvertently cause misunderstanding.

People talks; of the slacking behavior of the 12th Division Captain, of his weird eccentricityand of his pervert behavior (even though it is in downsized unlike Captain Kyouroku of eighth Divison and Captain Kurosahi Isshin of 10thDivision).

Urahara does not take life and his job as captain seriously because he think life is too fun to be lived with much hindrance. He left important paper works in the hand of his subordinates. There are at least three people in his division that he trusts the most: Kurotsuchi Mayuri (despite his obsession, he respects Urahara when it comes to science and his fighting skills), Yuuki Akiko and Miyano Shiho.

People said those three are Urahara's favorite subordinates because he often seen spent time a lot with each one of them but never actually be in one place with the trio all at once (unless in a meeting which has everyone else in it so that doesn't count).

Yuuki Akiko is a young girl of 16 years old. She has served under Urahara for 3 years now. She is not as smart and bright as Urahara's other favorite people but she cares and trust her captain dearly. She is rather good-looking, maybe that is why her captain put up with her despite her many weaknesses and her authority-disrespectful behavior toward him.

Akiko takes her works `quite' seriously. Since she does not really understand science, Urahara assigned her with matters such paper works for permission, asking budget and that sort of things. Those were supposed to become Mayuri's tasks but Urahara wants him for science project.

Akiko always scolded her captain to work properly (things that even Mayuri does not dare to say). She would drag Urahara away from the sake stand. Urahara's drinking buddies, Isshin and Kyouroku would tease him about how he is a sucker for pretty faces, would go easy even on enemies or rivals who have pretty faces. Now he let himself being order around by his subordinate.

Urahara would smile and said that; those two are no different with him, mentioning about Kyouroku's adorable little Vice-captain Ise Nanao and Kurosaki's lovely third seated officer, Daidouji Mayura.

Akiko tries her best to keep her captain's image in front of others people but to no avail (because Urahara purposely keep acting stupid and easy-going). She hates it when people talks bad about her captain and wouldn't hesitate to defend her captain which only cause more gossip about how she and Urahara are lover.

People say that Urahara is bisexual and thus he has love interest toward Mayuri. Mayuri hates that rumor but his captain does not mind at all. Akiko who has quite close relationship with her captain (not as lover) knew (not quite, as she thinks she did though) that her captain is a normal man, meaning liking girls. She knew this because she found out that Urahara has quite a special relationship with Shihouin Yoruichi and playful relationship (one night stand) with some other girls.

Akiko likes her captain for his kindness but hating him for his perverted view, in fact she hates every pervert men in the world.

Urahara once remarks, “If you hate perverted men then you'll end up hating every man in this world because that the way men are…”

Akiko stood with her arms crossed. “I don't believe that. There has to be men that do not think sex above all.” She wrinkles her forehead as she thinks. “Captain Ukitake is not a pervert… so are others captain except you, Captain Kurosaki and Captain Kyouroku…”

Urahara laughs but did not say anything further.

Miyano Shiho is a young girl of 18 years old. She is the third smartest person in 12th Divison (The first one is naturally Urahara and the second one is Mayuri). She does not like her captain but put up with him since she has passion for science. If Mayuri is his golden boy then she is his golden girl. She does not like Mayuri for his annoyingly-too-proud-for-you attitude.

Mayuri always treated the others that are not smart with mockery and those who are smart would be considers as rival. Mayuri hates Shiho and compete with her as well to get Urahara's attention.

Shiho find it ridiculous because she does not seek for Urahara's attention. She joins the division simply because it has facilitation that allows her to experiment.

Mayuri also find Akiko hindrance for some reason he himself does not understand. He hates that Akiko is closer with their captain even though she is just some loser. He would purposely make thing hard for Akiko. It would be his joy to see her depressed over some annoying paper works.

When Akiko depressed, she has short temper. She would pull her hair in unlady-like manner. Well, she is not a woman in the first place; she is still a little girl in a way. She is stubborn, childish, a bit egoist and crybabies in some way. Unlike Shiho who is much, more mature for a girl.
