Note: Takes place in Soul Society Arc.   A couple days in but still Pre battle with Mayuri and no real spoilers to speak of.

 

 

A Promise in the Dark

 

     Ishida Uryu climbed down from the crate under the window.   The passing squad hadn't even glanced in the direction of the old storehouse where he and Inoue Orihime were holed up for the night.

 

     After Inoue-san's sleep talking outburst had brought unwanted attention to their first hideout, Ishida suggested that they take turns sleeping.    It was once again his turn to keep watch while she slept.

 

     He sat on the floor across from her and rested his chin in his hands.    She was curled up on her side and had cuddled the top of his shinigami robes into a ball against her chest.

 

    Seeing the state of his top, Ishida smiled.  **She's so cute when she sleeps, I wonder what she's dreaming?**

 

    She was mumbling softly into the bundle of clothes, so Ishida scooted closer to see if he could make sense of the words.

 

     It had become sort of a game to him.   Each night before he'd listened to her `dream talk' and silently hoped that he'd be included in one, but it was always Ichigo Kurosaki who was mentioned by name.

 

     Feeling his warmth Inoue wiggled her body closer to his and he saw her smile in the dark.   Ishida helped raise her head and laid it in his lap, gently letting his hand stroke and trail through her hair as she snuggled closer still.

 

    They'd gotten to know each other as their adventure had tested them.   Ishida knew that her place beside him was a fluke of luck, and that he'd do anything to protect and stand by her.   Her kind and gentle nature wore a mask of fierce determination to protect and help her friends.  

 

    "Beautiful."   Ishida dared to speak aloud to the sleeping girl,   "Inoue-san?   Do you know how beautiful you are?   What would it take for you to understand how much you've come to mean to me?    What can I do to help you understand how I feel?   Would you ever dare to love me?   Inoue-san, will you stand by me after we return?   Will you let me try to show you love...  someday?"  

 

     Sighing as he sat back and looked up at the window, Ishida allowed himself a small smile.   "Someday, huh?"   He returned his attention to the mumbles in his lap and relaxed.  

 

    "Ooooo   Ishida-kun!   Ahhh!   I like it!   No!  I love it!   You're soo amazing, Ishida-kun!"   Ishida snapped to attention as Inoue squealed his name.   **What on earth is she dreaming about!   She sounds so happy, so passionate....  NO!  She wouldn't!**

 

     Blushing fiercely and shaking with unknown anticipation Ishida cupped her chin gently and whispered in her ear to quiet her down.   "Inoue-san, I'm right here.   Ahhh are you all right?   Can I ummmm..."

 

 

     "Ishida-kun's sewing is the greatest!   So cute!   Look at this!   Amazing huh?!?"   She sat up suddenly as if to show what ever it was she saw in her dream and connected hard with Ishida's chin.

 

    "Ow!   What is it Ishida-kun?   You look upset?   Have they found us?"   She turned around cupping a hand over her bumped forehead.

 

    Trying to cover the initial look of shock and disappointment his face had shown her, Ishida fumbled for the right words   "Ah, no...  Everything is fine Inoue-san.   You were just having a dream and I came to quiet you down.   Dawn will be here in a couple hours."   Ishida kept his hands in his lap hoping she wouldn't notice that his body had reacted to her unknown sensual cries.

 

    "Yes!   Thank you Ishida-kun.   I'm glad you're here with me, I know I'll be safe as long as you are by my side!"   With that she curled up again and was soon mumbling again into his top.

 

     "Inoue-san, I will keep you safe, and I will keep you by my side for a long time."   Ishida blushed as he made that promise to himself and to her.   "I'll do whatever it takes, Inoue-san, anything at all."

This was kept to just the hour and without knowing the characters personalities I think some of the fic will just be lacking in reiterated characterization.

 

I've had this scenario in my head for a few weeks now….   First it was a lemon, then it was prequel to a lemon, then it was after a lemon… now it's just NOT a lemon… WTF?

 

I may alter and change it to suit my other ideas   or just do an alternate ending…….  Maybe… I don't know what I want to do >.<     I'd like to explore the “what ifs” that the series didn't show from the nights that Ishida & Inoue spent together…   so there may be a few more challenges in that time frame…   I'm also dying to know more past chappy 205…   which is causing me a serious fit of… HOW TO GET IKKAKU NEKKID and in a ficlet….   I kinda like the TatsukiX Renji TBD Pairing… but she's a good candidate for Ikkaku too…

 

Anyway…  I wrote a ficlet for you guys…
