[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
NOTE: in this fanfic Ichigo and Rukia never met. Rukia has no clue Ichigo exists. You get the point.
Disclaimer: I do not own Bleach or any of it's characters (but if I did >_<)
Cold. Kami it was always so cold. It was the only thing she felt. Her body was numb and her mind along with it, but she always felt the cold.
She must've been laying there for some time because she started to feel it. The thing that had caused the 12th division captain to find interest in her. The pulsing of a heartbeat; different from her own.
As a child Rukia had always been… strange. She never seemed to talk until she met Renji, and that was because she felt compelled. Maybe that had something to do with IT, because the day she met Renji was the very first time that she'd ever felt the pulsing. Since then she'd learned about her abilities as a shinigami.
Later in her life, while she was still in the academy, the 12th division captain, Kurotsuchi Mayuri, decided that the time was right to tell her that whatever it was that she felt when she was either near Renji, or extremely injured physically or mentally was not normal, and that he had the right to take her in for experimentation.
That's how she got where she is now. Cold. Th-thump th-thump. The pulsing was very strange. It was always calm while she was frantic; Soothing.
Wait. Something's strange. Something was off, but she couldn't quite place it. It was like something. Something was warming her from the inside out.
She lay there, not sure what to do. What was this? She tried to open her eyes, but they wouldn't budge. Still motionless, she heard what sounded like screams, but they sounded dull. As if they were at the bottom of a well. Rukia squirmed; trying to break free of whatever held her hostage. More screams, this time loud and very much so real.
Why do you let them do this to you? It was a voice, crystal clear, and in her head. She could tell it was male, but she… recognized it. She'd heard it before, but she wasn't sure from where.
Who-who a-are you? She absently replied. Hoping that since it was in her head she should be able to reply by speaking using it… she hoped.
Who I am isnot your concern. What you need isto tell me is why you do this to yourself. His voice had become harder, more demanding. Do you get some sort of kick making me step in and keep your ass alive!? She didn't know what to do. Was this what had been happening to her this entire time. Was it his?
Is it YOUR heartbeat I feel? She couldn't explain it, but she trusted whoever it was. She could feel the bond. And knew that he wouldn't hurt her.
No. It's the guys down the street! You're not stupid Rukia... Shit. There was a long pause. She became more anxious. Okay. Your gonna' have to listen to me okay? Someone's trying to get inside of your head, and if they do they'll find me. And trust me, that's not a good thing. What I need you to do is wait for me to release so that you can move again, but when that happens you run strait for your friend named Renji. I'll give you the facts later but we needto take care of this right now… Got it? The last part was strained, as if he were struggling with something.
I-I think so. Yeah. Her eyes flew open suddenly. She jerked her body upwards, only to see the wreck of a lab that looked like one of those animals from the human world found itself looking for food inside Soul Society's very own laboratory for experimentation. She almost felt happy about the fact that the people that made her so cold were lying unconscious on the floor, but that'd have to wait. She had business to attend to. Now, where was that red head? Wait. Why is she doing whatever the thing in her head told her to do? Wouldn't that make her some kind of form of insane? But, how could she not? If it were willing enough to tell her all about it, that means that it trusted her, so why not give in a little? “Damnit.” She cursed under her breath.
You still there? She waited for a reply.
Nothing.
“Shit!” She heard the 11th division unsheathing their swords and it sounded like they were headed in this direction. What should I do? She felt that heating sensation again.
You, head out to Hitsugaya-taishou's place. While I distract these buffoons. She started to turn when she heard more screams. They came from the hallway that the 11th division was in, but she didn't feel like stopping to check out what happened.
Did you do that? She questioned with uncertainty, close to nervousness.
Yup. Now get going! You don't have much time left Much time left? What was that supposed to mean?
Okay. She started to run towards the east, where the 10th division barracks were located. But do you have a name I can call you by instead of just saying “hey voice in my head how do I do this?” Her eyes opened wide when she heard the last thing she expected, he'd started to laugh.
Hmmmm. Well I suppose that would make you sound a little cookoo now wouldn't it? Okay okay. My name is Ichigo, nice to meet you. She stifled a laugh and only a small chuckle came out.
Strawberry? Do you cook or something? She could hear him growl.
I swear to Kami, EVERYBODY says that… She couldn't help it this time. She laughed. All sense of endangerment had flown out the window, and now that she thinks about it, what is it that he was afraid of anybody finding? Oh well. She'd find out sooner or later.
All that was heard now was her feet hitting the pavement as she ran toward the barracks. She saw the corner of the building, but what she didn't expect to see was a giant dragon that looked as if it were made of ice and water, flying over head. What the hell?
Ichigo started to laugh again. Looks like they got off to a good start, doesn't it? What was that supposed to mean?
What? She became cautious and began to slow down. Who wouldn't when a 400 foot long dragon was freezing things in it's wake just above you.
I'll explain here in a second, just keep going. Don't be afraid of that chunk of ice, he won't hurt you. Why does he keep putting it off? She should've asked him earlier when he was so inclined to tell her about himself.
If you say so. Dear god. She was having conversations in her head with some phantom that she was letting put her in harms way.
As she neared the building the dragon looked at her, but turned away and started to build what looked similar to a wall of ice around the barracks. Is it closing me in?
No. Just keeping others out. That wasn't the answer she wanted to hear. She was panting hard now, and knocking on the door. What're you knocking for? Just go in!
But this is where the taishou is! I have to show him respect. He chuckled.
That's kinda creepy. But you don't have to show him ANY kind of respect while I'm here. Got it? That's it. This guy's nuts. She swallowed hard, and opened the door. Funny, while outside of the building was in chaos the inside was perfectly normal. That is until she saw a girl running towards her. She'd never seen her before. She usually remembers when she meets someone with blue hair and silver eyes. They looked metallic. “Hi! You must be Rukia.” She smiled and reached out her hand. “Nice to meet you! My name's Hyourinmaru, but everybody just calls me Rin.” She really was adorable.
She looked at me with her head cocked to one side. “Ne, is Ichi-nii causing you any trouble? If he is just tell me so that when he gets here I can give him what he's got coming!” She smiled again.
“That depends on how you look at it- Wait! How'd you know about Ichigo!?” How did this girl know about a phantom living in her head?
Rin laughed, “Because Ichigo Is my elder brother silly!” She paused and then turned around. “And Hitsu-chan is mad at me for some strange reason.” Please tell me she didn't just call Hitsugaya-taishou “Hitsu-chan”.
That's Rin for ya. Sit tight I'm almost there. Ichigo was coming here. Wait! He was a real person! Rukia wasn't sure what to think. And wasn't Hitsugaya-taishou's zanpakutou named Hyourinmaru?
Rukia's legs buckled underneath of her. Exhaustion of all of today's happenings. “Hey, um Rin-chan. Is Ichigo a nice person?”
The girl smiled, “Yup! Ichi-nii is the best person Rin-chan knows!” She paused. “Oh yeah! Ichigo isn't the only one here! There's my older sister Zabimaru too! I'm not sure if she's here yet. But when Ichi-nii gets here everything will be alright!” Her voice had gotten soothing and she had started to pat the older girls back, apparently noticing the deep concern and the fact that she had just fallen on to the ground. “You must be hungry after what those mean people did to you. I'll go get you something to eat as long as Hitsu-chan isn't still mad at me.” Rukia was at a loss for words.
First she'd been told that she had something abnormal inside of her. Second this abnormal thing can talk. Not to mention it was real and coming HERE. Third this girl was here talking about her superior as if she'd known him since she were born. And fourth, wasn't Renji's zanpakutou named Zabimaru? “Um, Rin?”
Rin had started her way to the door while Rukia was lost in her thoughts and had turned the corner, but came back to answer the other girls question. “What is it Ruki-chan?”
Ruki-chan? Well… she's friendly at least. “Why is it that you have the same name as Hitsugaya-taishou's zanpakutou? And your elder sister has the same name as Renji's?”
Rin laughed. “Well, it must seem strange huh? It's because I am Hitsu-chan's zanpakutou.” She seemed to have noticed my look of disbelief. “Don't worry. When Ichi-nii gets here he'll tell you the story.”
“What'll I do?”
I think I'm gonna be evil and stop it here. A bit shorter then I had planned, but long enough to get me started.
If it seems weird right now I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about it. My master plot will take place and if you don't like it I don't care. >_<
R&R if you post a complaint I'll take it into consideration but not care otherwise!
