How long can Haru keep her true identity to herself when the two sons of the yakuza want to know everything about her?! Simple. Not very long.
Chapter one- a winter break to remember.
Sounds of Namie Amuro's White light sounded through the lavish restaurant in downtown Tokyo.
The lights were dim giving off a romantic atmosphere. Couples were seated close together watching the snowfall just outside the large glass windows.
Against the VIP room doorframe a young girl around seventeen stood leaning, scanning the room with her thin arms crossed, and then sighing as she stared at the snow as well.
Her Curled dark hair reached just above her shoulders, Her creamy skin seemed to glow from the glare of the Tokyo lights below, and her electric green eyes stood out amongst her seemingly quite demeanor. She was dressed as a waitress, wearing a white button up dress shirt covered by a black vest that complemented the soft pink of her perfect tie, her black dress pants fit her snugly and showed the world just how slim she was, all this along with her black vans that she had snuck on just before leaving the house.
She watched the couples with a small smile; she had never had something like that. She watched envious slightly, as one couple laughed quietly together disturbing the flame of the candle that sat on the table.
` Lucky' she thought. “ Excuse me miss, but we're ready to order.” She put on a big smile that reached every part of her face “ of course, what will you have madam?” she pulled out a small note pad and an expensive looking pen waiting patiently for the older couple.
As the sliver haired woman expressed her deep dislike for the music that had turned from the soft Christmas song to one that seemed a bit more for the younger crowd, she noticed the large ring on the woman's ring finger ` Arisugawa Reika' She thought noting that her parents had done quite a bit of business with the crooked pair.
“ I'm sorry about that Arisugawa-sama, I'll have it changed immediately.” She said gracefully.
The old woman nodded her approval and asked for the seafood special. After taking the order she walked to the kitchen hading over the order.
“ Oi Haruka, what are you doing taking orders?” she turned around hearing her name to see the head chef there at Momo.
The man was in his mid forties but had quiet the reputation; he stood only five foot seven, with a plain face and plain hair and a rather small nose.
“ hello Chef-san.” He smiled waving the order in front of her face; he had to look up to scold her being five foot nine was something she was proud of.
Waving the paper he said, “ As soon as I saw the hand writing I knew who it was! Your father would be furious if he knew you were playing waitress again.”
She giggled taking his chef's hat from his head placing it on her own “ should I play chef then?” Chef sighed and motioned for his hat back, which she gladly gave back “ I wont tell if you don't Chef-san.” He side glanced at her shaking his head “ yeah yeah alright.” She smiled and walked back out to the main floor, reaching the bar she sat on one of the many open stools.
The Bar tender who had just been hired smiled setting down a wine glass that she had been drying “ ah, playing again are we?” Haruka smiled nodding her head
“ Yes its Christmas break and all my friends, what little there are, have all gone to some fantastic vacation sport for their winter break. So I have nothing else to do you see.” The thin blond woman nodded, handing Haruka an orange and red drink in a rather simple glass, well simple for this place.
Haruka looked at Ichie with a questioning glance
“ Don't worry there's no alcohol in it, that would get me fired! I made that special for you, it's called the super deluxe ninja.”
she laughed wiping down the already spotless black marble counter.
Haruka smiled grasping the yellow straw “domo.” She said sipping on the `special' drink. Her eyebrows rose and she looked at Ichie “ It too sweet!” she said setting it on the counter “ that's because your not sweet enough, here.” Ichie said pouring some other juice in it that Haruka couldn't identify.
She picked it up once again and sipped testing it, the sweet and the bitter taste lingered. `Much better' she thought.
“ Hey Haruka that old woman is motioning for you.”
Haruka looked to the Arisugawa table and sure enough the tiresome old woman was waving her hand for her.
“ So it seems, be right back Ichie.”
She placed the drink back down and walked to the table “ is there something wrong Arisugawa-sama?” the old woman seemed to look her over incredulously. “ Are you perhaps related to Momoshi Saeko?” Haruka smiled and bowed her head “ yes I am her daughter.”
The old woman's attitude completely changed as she unceremoniously slid her chair back to properly greet the owner's daughter. Shaking Haruka's hand she smiled.
“ Now why would you be working here? It is winter break isn't it, you should be out with your friends!” Haruka took her hand back smiling patiently with the kimono clad woman “ Yes, but you see I wanted to know what it was like to work for your money.”
Well it was close to the truth.
The woman nodded her head “ how very noble of you!” Haruka heard the bell in the kitchen ring `saved by the bell doesn't even cover this! Chef-san you're my hero.' She looked back at Arisugawa shaking her hand once more.
“ that would be your order, I'll be back in just a moment.” She sauntered off removing the smile she had placed on. She glanced at Ichie who gave the thumbs up
“ Good job!” she said laughing.
It was a bit past midnight and the new lavish restaurant Momo was empty expect for Momoshi Haruka.
It was true that her socialite friends were no where to be found in Japan, and that her father would be furious if her saw her dressed like a commoner serving others, but her father was `away' on business. “Yeah right.” She said leaning against the tall window.
The upbeat techno beat that floated through the empty space lifted her spirits if only the tiniest bit. She loved to hear her mother sing, That's right Momoshi Haruka's mother was a famous pop idol in Japan, or she was when she was younger.
Her mother was the exact opposite of her father Momoshi Kazuharu, a widely known Businessman. Her mother was the free one who expressed all her feelings, while her father although had the best intentions `most times', would hardly express them to his wife and daughter.
Ever since she was brought into this world she had received anything and everything she could have possibly wanted. `But life is boring that way.' She thought.
“ Snow-san, I would like to be a normal girl, just once.” She placed her hand against the cold glass looking down at the crowded street, multicolored lights flashing drowning out the starlight and snow that drifted down. “ If you want to be normal than just be normal.” She jumped startled by the voice.
Still gasping she saw someone she didn't recognize, but he was wearing the uniform for the Momo restaurant ` so he works here. Okay he's not a murder.' She calmed down “ who are you?” she asked taking in his appearance her was taller than her and had black hair that he had neatly spiked up, his eyes were brown and his face seemed somewhat angelic, he was obviously quiet a bit older than her.
“Why I'm Snow-san, of course.”
She lifted one eyebrow “ Oh?” he smiled and walked over to the window rather close to her. She could feel the warmth that radiated from his body, making her uncomfortable.
He turned to her looking at her with sorrow filled eyes; his eyes caught her off guard. “ You know winter is a time of change.” He placed one hand on the window.
“ Haruka, you will never be normal, and if you should try I don't think that you will be happy that way.” She looked out the window once more deep in thought. “ But I want to try.” She said looking back at him.
He smiled and stepped away from her “ you are more like your mother. Goodnight Momoshi-san.” She watched him leave `mysterious guy' she thought looking at the door. “Ack!” she squeaked jumping from her position and grabbing her bag and white fur lined coat.
“ I completely forgot to ask his real name!” she raced to the door and locked it behind her, pressing the elevator button furiously.
“ Come on come on!” when she finally reached the street he was nowhere in sight, and in the crowd of people it would be nearly impossible to find him. She sighed in defeat grabbing her cell phone from her pocket, when it beeped in protest to work she sighed yet again throwing it back in her purse.
“ Guess that means I'm walking.” She said snuggling into her coat.
Walking to the train station wasn't its usual enlightening walk, not today. She walked into the busy station catching her breath as she leaned against the wall.
“ Hey there do I know you?”
the gruff voice that came from her left made her open her emerald orbs. “ Oh! What bizarre eyes, are you Japanese pretty lady?”
She took in the mans appearance, apparently he wasn't alone, two more guys looked at her with crooked smiles.
They didn't look like street punks; their clothes wear actually rather trendy and the orange sunglasses the gruff man was wearing looked very expensive.
“ You gonna answer me?” she focused back on the blue haired gruff man and smiled “ have you heard the story of the crooked house?” he went from trying to be daunting to dumbstruck. “ The wah...?” she touched his glasses that rested on his hair
“ these are very nice, where did you get them?” he smirked again grasping her hand, which seemed extremely small in his.
“ You like them eh?” she pulled her hand from his and stood up politely bowing “ I have a pair at home but that color must have been limited. It was very nice chatting with you but I need to get home.”
The two men behind that apparent leader gawked at her as she walked away placing her hands in the coat pockets. “ What a freak! Did she not know that where the yakuza?” said one animatedly
“ I guess she doesn't. What an idiot right Kei?”
the blue haired man slapped both the men's heads “ you dumb shits, obviously she knew who we are, she is just a bit more sly than I would have guessed.” He turned to follow her “ but being sly isn't enough little kitty.”
Both the younger men followed their superior without complaint.
Haruka sat in one of the open seats on the train to the Asakusa district where one of the many Momoshi homes was. When her stop came she stepped out into the crowd without noticing the flaming blue hair following behind.
Outside the station she flipped her phone open again “ it's one already.” She said to herself. “ What is that past your bedtime kitty?” She whipped around coming face to face- err well chest with the blue haired man.
“ You again?” she said in annoyance, he faked a hurt expression and roughly grabbed her hand making Haruka drop her cell phone. “ Hey!” she said trying to pull her hand from his grasp “ just what do you think you are doing?” she shouted hoping someone could hear.
“ taking you to get a drink with me, of course.” Her eye twitched as she tried using her legs to try and pry his hand from hers. “ Sorry to burst your bubble old man but I'm not old enough to drink as of yet!”
He leaned in close to her face making her blink and try to back up, which on one foot isn't the best idea.
She squeaked as she fell on her but into the snow, earning two laughing men behind her. She glared at them standing up again
“ Yeah ha ha.”
She said dusting snow off of her butt. “ I like you.” Said the blue haired man grabbing her face and forcing her to look at him.
“ your a feisty one.”
He said smirking and undressing her with his eyes. She started getting scared now, why oh why had she walked off to the side of the station? Why hadn't she just used a pay phone to call her driver? Curse her stupidity.
` If worse comes to worse, there is no way I can physically overpower these three.' She screamed out for help in her mind trying to remember all that her self-defense teacher had taught her.
Kei inched closer to her and she inched away eventually finding the cold station wall behind her “ no where to go now kitty.” She gulped and pressed herself against the wall. He placed his hands on either side of her head, his eyes gleaming evilly at her.
“ I'll say this once. So listen up you idiots.” she said bravely.
` What the hell did I just say?!' she thought feeling immensely less brave than she sounded.
The three seemed to be waiting for what she was about to say. She thought for a moment and then smiled sheepishly “ heh heh seems I have forgot what I was about to say.” She said rubbing the back of her curly haired head.
The men seemed to process what she had said before bursting into laughter. ` Got ya.' She thought, as she brought her nails down on Kei's face earning a howl of pain from him.
Using the distraction she bounded away from the tree with more force than she knew she had ` run. Run. Run, don't look back.' She repeated in her head. She could hear them gaining on her she never was much of a runner.
She felt as the hood of her coat caught, and then she felt her body being slammed into the ground.
She couldn't catch it, she just couldn't seem to catch her breath. “ You stupid bitch!” Kei yelled holding the left side of his face. “ I'll fucking kill you.” His voice seemed to drop and octave or two. She could feel tears stinging her eyes but wouldn't dare let them free. Not in front of these bastards.
From her blurry vision she saw him approach. Closing her eyes she waited for the pain, the crunching sounds of her bones, or the blood to run out of her, but it didn't come.
She opened her eyes to see Kei on the ground unconscious and the other two running down the sidewalk. “What the…” she felt a hand on her shoulder and jumped, she looked at the hand and then to the owner.
The first thing that grabbed her attention about this guy was his long red hair that was held in a high ponytail. Then the black tattoos that snaked down his neck. His clothes were definitely in style and he also wore expensive glasses. `Oh god another one.'
He looked at her still on the ground staring at him and he growled to grab her attention. “ Hey, you going to sit there all night?” she shook herself much to his amusement and stood up ` she's tall.' He thought looking her over “ you aren't hurt are you?”
She shook her head no still in a daze. “ You shouldn't walk around without your boyfriend or at least some friends. Not around here anyways.” Haruka came out of her daze and said the first thing that came to her mind “ I don't have a boyfriend and all my…Well never mind.” She blushed and picked up her purse and turned back her savoir and bowed “ thank you very much. I thought I was a goner for sure. I don't really know how to thank you.”
He scratched the back of his head and hid the slight blush that was forming on his face `goddamn, she's cute.'
“ Oh, uh that's alright just be careful.” She smiled and his blush grew. “ Can I have the name of my savoir?” she asked curiously,' you sound so dumb.' She thought mentally smacking herself.
He stuck his hand out to her “ the name is Abarai Renji.” She took his hand shaking it in the cold night air it felt wonderful. “ What about you? I haven't seen you around before.” She smiled again the former blush returning “ I'm-“ she was cut of by Kei waking up and leaning against a bench
“ Dammit Renji! Why the hell did you have to hit me so damn hard?” Renji glared at Kei uncaringly and looked back to the girl. When his eyes landed on her face again he almost jumped she looked downright evil with the look she was giving him “ your with Him?” she pointed to Kei with acid laced into her words. “ Uh well I…it's more like he's with me…” she stuck up her hand.
“ Never mind I don't want to know.” She whipped around and stomped down the street fuming and scolding herself for playing nice with the bad guy.
When she reached her house it was dark and quite.
Her mother long since had gone to bed. Haruka placed her coat and purse on the coat rack on the wall “ I'm home.” She whispered, slipping off her shoes. She walked through the hall and up the stairs to her room and plopped down on her bed.
“ What a day.” She said into her black pillow. She rolled over looking at the high ceiling and heard the sound of crunching paper under her. “Huh?” she pulled out the elegant looking notepaper and unfolded it. Her eye quickly read the beautiful handwriting of her mother.
Haru darling,
I know how much you hate that private school your father sends you to.
So! I have found you a new school and starting when winter break is over you will attend a commoner school! Isn't that exciting? I wanted to tell you when you goy home but this is all right too. I'll see you in the morning dear. Sweet dreams.
Momo!
Haruka smiled at her mother's words, until they sank it. She moaned and fell asleep still in her clothes
“ But this is what normal people do…”
okay well thats the first chapter, tell me what you think!
