Chapter 1
It was completely unbelievable. It was a sight that was usually only seen after Hitsugaya-Taicho pulled several all nighters. Except this time he wasn’t the one responsible. No this was all Rangiku’s work.
Renji said she was high on drugs. Hisagi said she was a hollow in disguise. Izuru thought she was sick. Nanao suggested that she had a head injury. They just couldn’t believe that Rangiku not only did all the paperwork for the past two weeks but it was done on time and correctly.
Of course, none of them knew that her Taicho had threatened her. Still it was worth it because he was happy now.
“One more day and I’ll be free,” Rangiku said gleefully as she locked the office up for the night. Tomorrow was the last day of her sentence- well this part anyways. She still had four months and two weeks to go until she was allowed to have any alcohol.
“Rangiku?”
The strawberry-blonde turned around to find Momo standing behind her. The younger woman had a worried look on her face. Even though Captain Unohana said that Momo was making excellent progress, Rangiku was still a little wary. Her Captain had been hurt too many times by Momo. ‘I’m glad he’s with Ichigo right now.’
The stress of running two squads was finally taking its toll on the Squad Ten Captain. Unohana-Taicho and the Sotaicho ordered Toshiro to take frequent breaks away from the office. “Hey, long time no see! What are you doing here?”
Momo wrung her hands. “Rangiku, I have to ask you something and I need an honest answer.”
Not sure what to expect, Rangiku nodded.
“Is it true that he’s involved with someone; that substitute soul reaper that everyone talks about?”
“Yes, they’ve been together for about two weeks. Why?” She was speaking to air. Momo was running away. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going after Toshiro!”
“WHAT!” This couldn’t be good.
It was cold outside but that didn’t faze Toshiro, after all his zanpakuto was Hyorinmaru. Laughter came from the store behind him. Urahara had invited all of them over for a party. Sighing Toshiro continued looking at the night sky. He was here because Unohana forced him to take a break. He had only grumbled a little.
It would be such a hardship to spend time with his boyfriend.
Tonight was the first night of his break. He grudgingly admitted that it was nice not to worry about paperwork or people making demands. Everyone here in the World of the Living only expected him to be himself.
There wasn’t a single cloud obscuring the sky.
Two arms wrapped around him pulling him back against a warm body. Equally warm lips brushed against his ear making him gasp softly. “Why aren’t you inside with the others?” It never ceased to amaze him how easily Ichigo could distract him.
“You’re not in there.” Ichigo answered, his warm breath caused the prodigy to shiver.
“Sap.” Toshiro muttered earning him a chuckle from his boyfriend.
“The real question is why aren’t you in there with me? You’re missing all the fun.”
Toshiro snorted, “Yeah, right.”
Ichigo smiled, he knew his kitten wasn’t a people person. Besides it just meant that he got to spend a lot of quality alone time with his boyfriend. “O.k. so Orihime’s latest dream about monster trucks in dresses isn’t all that interesting.” The teen walked backwards pulling Toshiro with him until he bumped against the porch. He sat down pulling the Taicho down to sit between his legs. It was more comfortable to sit rather than stand. Ichigo’s smile grew when his kitten leaned back into him.
Neither spoke, both of them content with the silence. Eventually, though, Ichigo spoke quietly, “He wants to come out and meet you.”
Toshiro tilted his head to look at the strawberry. “When you say ‘he’ I assume you’re talking about your inner hollow.” Ichigo nodded with a frown on his face. “I don’t see why I shouldn’t meet him. He is a part of you.” When Ichigo failed to respond, he quietly said, “You don’t like that idea.”
The orange-haired teen sighed. “I’m not sure. On one hand I’m thrilled that you don’t have a problem with my being a Visored and that you want to know all of me. On the other hand, though, I can’t figure out why he’s been so persistent about this. I don’t know if he’ll behave or try and hurt you.”
Toshiro ignored the unintentional insult knowing just how protective his boyfriend was. “Does he say why he wants to meet me?”
The teen shook his head, “I think he’s just curious.” His arms tightened their hold on his kitten.
The prodigy thought for a moment before coming to a decision. “In a day or two, once you’re more comfortable with the idea, let him out. Just let me know before you do so I know what’s going on.”
“Are you sure?” The warm brown eyes held uncertainty, something Toshiro didn’t like seeing.
‘He’s really worried about this.’ He answered, “I am.”
“All right.” Nothing more needed to be said about the subject. They both knew that the only way to stop the hollow from aggravating Ichigo to death would be to let him meet Toshiro.
“There you are!” Orihime exclaimed, stomping her way in front of them. “I’ve been looking for you guys.”
“What’s up?” Ichigo asked. He had known the redhead for a long time but her mood swings still threw him for a loop.
She never got the chance to answer.
“TOSHIRO!”
The prodigy’s eyes widened, “Momo?” He stood up just in time to catch his sister. The impact sent him stumbling back into Ichigo, who just barely managed to keep from cracking his head on the porch.
The white haired Taicho tried to ask what was wrong, but Momo hugged him so tightly he swore he could hear some of his ribs crack. “M-Momo, l-let go.”
Reluctantly the dark haired girl pulled away. “You’re so mean, Shiro-chan. I came all the way here to see you.”
“It’s Hitsugaya- Taicho.” A white eyebrow twitched in irritation.
Momo glared at him, “You really are mean.” She actually had the gall to stick her tongue out at him.
Toshiro resisted the urge to strangle her. “Why are you here?” He immediately regretted the question when her expression changed. Her face turned desperate as she grabbed him by the shoulders and began shaking him.
Ichigo and Orihime simply stared in shock. Neither one had ever met Momo before though Rangiku mentioned her name once or twice.
“Rangiku says you’re in a relationship, is it true?” She demanded to know.
Toshiro would have answered, but she was still shaking him. Either way, he wasn’t given a chance to answer. “You’re too young to date!”
‘Say what?!’
Finally he managed to grab her wrists prying her hands away. His heart clenched when his sister began crying. “What’s wrong?” That was the wrong thing to ask.
Momo cried harder, her voice shaking, “You can’t date. You can’t kiss anyone or have sex…”
“MOMO!!” Toshiro shouted feeling his cheeks burn. Sniffling, Momo looked at him with watery eyes. The ice wielder closed his eyes and breathed deeply opening his eyes when he felt calmer. “What are you talking about?”
He wasn’t prepared for her answer.
“I don’t want him to take you away from me. You’ve not been around and I can never find you.”
Unohana had warned him this might happen. Momo was making astounding progress but the healer said that she would be extremely clingy. He sighed as he leaned forward to pull his sister into a firm hug. “He will never take me away from you because you’re my sister.” The words were said softly, firmly trying to reassure her. “I haven’t been around the Soul Society because Unohana and the Sotaicho are forcing me to take frequent breaks.” His voice lowered even more so that no one else could over hear what he was saying. “Ichigo has two younger sisters and he loves them very much. He would never try to take me away from you.”
Momo nodded before pulling back just far enough to look over his shoulder at Ichigo, “Promise?”
Ichigo answered solemnly, “I promise.”
“Here’s a suggestion,” Orihime spoke up, “how about you come stay at my place for a couple of nights. This way you can spend time with Toshiro.”
Momo’s eyes lit up with hope at the suggestion. She turned to her brother who nodded. “I’ll get it cleared.”
“In that case, I’ll prepare a gigai for you.” No one noticed Urahara’s presence until he spoke. “Come by first thing in the morning to pick it up.”
An hour and a half later after walking the two girls to Orihime’s place, Toshiro sat on Ichigo’s bed waiting on his boyfriend to finish saying goodnight to his family. The prodigy was exhausted, thankfully, Unohana readily agreed to Momo staying in the World of the Living. However, Ichigo had been really quiet since Momo arrived. He thought he knew why.
His keen ears picked up the sound of the strawberry’s footsteps coming up the stairs. He waited patiently for his boyfriend, who paused on the other side of the door. After a split-second’s hesitation, Ichigo entered the room shutting and locking the door. The second the warm brown eyes met his; he said, “Don’t you dare feel guilty about what Momo said earlier.”
Ichigo smiled softly, “You know me too well.”
Toshiro scoffed, “You’re not that hard to figure out.” Ichigo stuck his tongue out at him as he lay down on the bed.
“You’re too far away,” the teen complained even though there was only an inch or two separating their bodies. He reached out to tug his kitten closer. Toshiro willingly obliged by laying his head on Ichigo’s shoulder; one arm wrapping around the teen’s waist. Ichigo’s arm curled around him holding on to him tightly.
Toshiro loved being held by Ichigo. “My not seeing her has nothing to do with you.” The teen stayed silent letting his kitten talk.
“For the longest time after Aizen’s betrayal I couldn’t talk to Momo. Every time I tried she would be fine for a few minutes then all of a sudden she would start begging me to save that bastard. She’d cry, scream, and rant all the while defending him and denying his betrayal.” Toshiro was glad Ichigo let him talk; the prodigy never talked about his sister to anyone. It was too painful. “At first Unohana tried to get me to come visit Momo, but then she realized how hard on me it was. I don’t think anyone realized how bad Momo was until they had to start restraining her. Unohana decided that it was best to limit the time we spent together.”
He paused, cuddling closer to the strawberry. One of Ichigo’s hands rubbed his back soothingly. “Rangiku and Ukitake knew how hard it was for me to see Momo so they would find ways to limit our contact. A few days ago he and Unohana came to see me at the office. According to them Momo has made some sort of break-through in progress and has recovered her senses. However, Unohana warned me that she would more than likely become very clingy. Because Aizen abandoned her, she would cling tightly to me afraid that I too will disappear. It never occurred to me she would show up here out of nowhere like she did.”
Silence filled the room as Ichigo digested his words. “So this was happening long before Halloween?” Instead of answering, Toshiro nodded his head. “I’m sorry.”
Confused Toshiro lifted his head to look at the strawberry. “For what?”
Ichigo’s eyes were filled with so much love making Toshiro blush from their intensity. “I’m sorry you had to go through this by yourself.”
“Baka,” muttered Toshiro as he shifted to kiss his strawberry.
Ichigo returned the sweet kiss. In private his kitten was more than willing to show affection and receive it; though, he always blushed. The shy, sweet side of Toshiro only came out when he was completely comfortable; and they were completely alone. That realization always brought a sense of elation quickly followed by humbleness.
When Toshiro broke the kiss, he snuggled back against Ichigo letting the strawberry’s breathing lull him to sleep.
“I promise you’ll never have to go through something like this alone again.” Ichigo promised his sleeping boyfriend.
Thankfully Hichigo refrained from making any comments.
