Chapter 2: The School Phantom

Usagi sat in the car, waiting for the arrival at Cinques Fleches. She had this feeling that there was something bad going on. It wasn't very good to feel that because each time, she was right. A bag and the coffin were next to Usagi. She had packed hastily, knowing that Haji was going to be there as a gardener.

The large school came into view. Personally, size didn't impress Usagi. So long as she could do what she needed to, she would be okay.

As soon as the bell rang, Usagi was up. It was lunch and she didn't normally eat lunch. She scurried off to find Haji.

Haji was innocently doing his job. He was crouching on the ground, cutting weeds from the garden. Of course, someone glomped him from behind. “HAJI NII-SAN!!!” They shouted. “…”
“Pwease talk?”
“…”
“Evil!”
“…”
“Evilly!”
“…”
“Evilly evilly?”
“…”
“Evilly evilly evil?”
“…”
“I know; Evilly evilly evil evil!”
“…”
“That's not it?”

Haji shook his head. Usagi pouted. “Fine, nii-san.” Haji sighed and peeled Usagi from him. He tapped her head and said (A/N: HE TALKS!!!) quietly, “You're not going to believe who's here.”
“Who?”
“I'm not going to tell you.”
“Fuck…You…”
“Go ahead, I'm sure you're very experienced.”

Usagi flipped Haji off and turned to walk away.

“There's the matter of the new student that I must discuss with you, Mr. Chairman.”
“Is it in a report…?” Karl asked, staring at Usagi.
“Yes.”
“Then I will read about it in the report.”
“Well, that's all I really needed to tell you about…”
“Then I suppose we are done.” Karl walked off in Usagi's direction but stopped short and ducked behind the statue in the courtyard to watch her as she flipped Haji off and walked away. Solomon was right…She's here…Relief wiped over Karl's mind. He suddenly froze to the core. She's probably still mad…About Mouna…Damnit, I was under Diva's mind control! Karl walked off to his office once Usagi was gone.

The chair that was normally so comforting to Karl didn't matter to him at all. He sat in it and just drifted off into memories.

Karl was smiling at Usagi as she handed him Mouna, their 6-year-old daughter. He was suddenly unable to fight a teasing voice in the back of his mind. Kill the girl… It said. Karl fought it for a few minutes, playing with Mouna and focusing on her to drown out the voice. KILL THE GIRL, the voice was forceful. Karl suddenly lost any control of his body. On the outside, his eyes had begun to glow red, etching fear into his daughter's eyes.

Usagi, sensing that something was wrong, moved closer and attempted to get Mouna from Karl. Unfortunately, she was too late. The young girl's scream echoed through the garden. Karl had bitten forcefully into her throat, severing an artery and drinking from it. He then went to her wrist and drank, draining the fragile girl's body of its blood.

Karl went rigid and disappeared, leaving the dead body to fall limply to the ground. From the short distance he was away, he could hear his love's screams and shouts of disbelief and agony. Tears streamed down his cheeks, a cruel laughter echoing in his mind. What have I done? I'm so sorry, Usagi…Please…Forgive me…I'm sorry, Mouna…Please, rest in peace and also forgive me…

Karl dashed away, donning his mask and cape as he ran to try and soothe himself in the familiar feel.

Sighing, Karl allowed the sweet darkness of sleep to come to him. Chevaliers didn't normally sleep, but he wasn't like most. He wasn't in love with Diva…He was in love with Usagi.

Usagi, unaware that Karl could hear her, sang to herself as she traveled to Mouna's grave. “Memories consume, like opening the wounds, and picking me apart again. You all assume I'm safely in my room, unless I try to start again.

“I don't want to be the one the battles always choose. `Cause inside I realize that I'm the one confused.

“I don't know what's worth fighting for, or why I have to scream! I don't know why I instigate; say what I don't mean! I don't know how I got this way-I know it's not alright. So I'm breaking the habit, breaking the habit tonight.”

Karl's stomach lurched at that. He knew she was singing about her past and only what was horrible. “Clutching my cure, I tightly lock the door; I try to catch my breath again. I hurt much more than anytime before; I have no options left again!

“I don't want to be the one the battles always choose. `Cause inside I realize that I'm the one confused.” Karl wanted so much to just hug her close and comfort her like he used to. His heart ached and burned for her. “I don't know what's worth fighting for, or why I have to scream! I don't know why I instigate; say what I don't mean! I don't know how I got this way-I'll never be alright. So I'm breaking the habit, breaking the habit tonight.

“I'll paint it on the wall! `Cause I'm the one that falls! I'll never fight again! And this is how it ends…” Karl stepped from his hiding spot, Usagi still unaware of him. “I don't know what's worth fighting for, or why I have to scream! But now I have some clarity to show you what I mean! I don't know how I got this way-I'll never be alright. So I'm breaking the habit, breaking the habit, breaking the habit tonight!”

Karl wrapped his arms around Usagi. I've missed this… He pulled her into his warm embrace, Usagi passing out from a high fever.
