(Part 1)

The school bell rang at exactly 8:20 am on schedule. Reedington High School Students flocked nosily along the hallway, scurrying to enter the classrooms. Seventeen years old, Julian Starr pushed his way through the crowded hall. His face looked flushed and tired. He furiously rode his bike to school this morning. He got himself almost late for his first period Physics Class.

"Yo, Julian!" He heard his named being called loudly.

Julian's face lit up in a bright smile to see his best friend, Tori Avalon waving at him. He was standing by the classroom door.

"Where were you this morning? Sakura and I were waiting for you to show up." Tori asked as soon as they entered the classroom and took their seats.

"Sorry bout' that," Julian said sheepishly. "I've overslept and my alarm clock wasn't working. It's a good thing that my grandpa woke me up in time."

"Oh? Someone's been partying up all night?" Tori said teasingly. There was a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Julian made a comical face. "Well, if you thrown in a couple of mathematical equations here and there, that should you keep you awake all night." He answered. He pulled out a large Physics textbook and a binder from his shoulder bag. "By the way, did you get page 201 done?" He quickly changed the subject.

"Not really," Tori shook his head. "I've got half of the homework done. I left some of the answers blank. Don't give a crap anymore cause I've had enough thinking. That was a tough assignment. Why don't Mr. Mizaka give us ever a break?" He complained.

"The last test was a killer." Julian agreed. "I wonder how did we do? He hasn't given the test back to us."

"So, what has you worried?" Tori asked. "It was just a unit test."

"Well, if I don't maintain my average, I could be in a lot of trouble." Julian answered, looking very much concerned

"You'll pass," Tori said confidently.

"Good morning class," Mr. Mizaka walked inside the classroom, carrying his briefcase with him. He settled on his teacher's desk and opened his briefcase. He shuffled through stacks of papers and piled them neatly on his desk. He stood up and paced around the classroom. He had the test papers with him.

"Now class," He began. "We are in our final quarters. It's time for you to get serious if you want pass this course. The score of this test will weigh upon your grade. As you're all aware, each test scores are about 50% of your final mark." Silence descended on the room. He passed the test back to the students.

"Woohoo!" Tori gave a joyful yell. A few students stared back.

"How did you do?" Tori asked. He couldn't stop grinning.

"Not too good," Julian said weakly. The look of horror in his eyes to see a big red mark of a failing 42% written across his test paper. His teacher left a note to him: PLEASE SEE ME AFTER CLASS.
