Chapter 2 Sickness
Sakura awoke with a big yawn. She heard a weird buzzing noise coming from her night table. She slowly got out of bed and looked at her alarm clock. It was 8:00!! Why didn't anyone wake her up? Oh, she remembered that her dad was going to work early in the morning and her brother was helping him. Her bus comes around 8:10, so she had ten minutes to get ready. But, she felt really bad, almost sick. That's it! She was sick. That's why her alarm clock didn't wake her. She could just stay in bed all day. Then again Syaoran was trying to tell her something. But what?
*
"Bye, grandpa," Yugi waved as he got on the bus with the millennium puzzle under his shirt, unnoticeable. 'Now, where should I sit? Maybe Sakura?' Yugi looked at each seat noticing that Sakura wasn't in. 'Maybe she's sick?' He thought as he sat down with Jounouchi.
"Hello, Jounouchi," Yugi greeted as he sat down beside his friend. "Have you seen Sakura on the bus today?" He asked hoping that she was going to school.
"No, I haven't. Sorry Yug. Say, why do you want to know where she is? Do ya like her?" Jounouchi said almost laughing.
"No, I'm just worried about her. She is my friend," he replied.
"Sure, Yug." He chuckled quietly. Yugi waited for the bus ride to end. Soon it did and as he went to class, he didn't see her. Maybe she was sick. Or, what if it was worse?
"Tomoyo," the teacher called.
"Here," she said smiling.
"Syaoran,"
"Here."
"Jounouchi,"
"Here."
"Sakura,"
"Yugi? YUGI!"
The yell brought Yugi out of his thoughts as he blushed. "I'm here," he said nervously. Then they began class. Soon, class was over. Yugi got a ton of homework, since he wasn't paying much attention. He decided to do it during lunch time.
Soon, lunch hour began and he stayed in the classroom doing his homework. But, he didn't notice Syaoran coming up with his sword. He slowly walked raising the sword to his neck. But, he hit a rock that made Yugi look up to see him right there.
"Hello Syaoran, why do you have a sword?" Yugi asked casually. "Wait! A sword!!!"
"Stop pretending to be good! Now, what did you do to Sakura?"
"I did nothing!" Suddenly, his voice got deeper, he looked stronger, taller. "This boy's soul is innocent. He did nothing to Sakura, as I did nothing to her."
"Who are you?"
"It doesn't matter, it's why you are trying to hurt Yugi. He did nothing."
"What are you?"
"I am I spirit, I share the same vessel as Yugi."
"And isn't your source that puzzle," he said as he grabbed Yugi's puzzle. Yugi became himself again seeing Syaoran with his puzzle.
"Hey, give it back!" Yugi yelled, jumping trying to reach the puzzle. Syaoran only raised it higher into the air, so Yugi couldn't reach it. "Give it back!" He repeated as he kept trying to get it.
"I don't think so. You'll have to tell me what it is, how you got it and what it does before getting it back," Syaoran laughed. This was like picking on a little kid, not even a fight or challenge.
"I won't say it's secrets, but I will challenge you to a puzzle. If I win, I get the puzzle back, and if you win, I will answer your questions."
"Fine, I will accept your challenge. But, just to warn you, you won't win."
The two began working on two copies of you puzzle. Yugi, having lots of experience with these things, was very good at it. Syaoran, with his quick speed, could find where a piece went really fast. Thus, the challenge was fair. Each person was now only down to one piece. They each put it in at the same time. Yugi had never said what they would do if they tied. Syaoran smiled.
"I've done your challenge. Since we both won, you must answer my questions."
"But you have to give the puzzle back," Yugi reminded. "Three questions." It would have been a lot easier if Syaoran won, he'd get his questions answered, and disable Yugi from becoming his stronger form and at the same time being able to find out more about it. It could have secrets to what was wrong with Sakura, if she had something wrong with her, that is.
"First question, where did it come from?"
"Egypt," Yugi smiled. Syaoran never said how detailed he had to answer the questions.
"Then how did you get it? You came from Japan, right?"
"My grandpa owns a game shop. He got this puzzle from Egypt, which I solved," he said proudly.
"How long did it take you?"
"Eight years!" Yugi smiled. A sweat drop fell down he face. (A/N: The puzzle actually took him eight years, in the manga!) "Now, that's three questions. May I have it back now?" Syaoran handed it back. He wasted three questions because of Yugi's smartness, plus Yugi didn't answer them that well. He didn't explain anything really. Only made Syaoran think of stupid questions. Maybe some of that spirit rubbed of onto him?
"Still, do you know why Sakura isn't here today?"
"You sound really worried about her. Are you her boyfriend?"
Syaoran blushed. How could he ask a question so... Innocently? Usually he'd get that question with a teasing sounding voice. But his was so serious.
"You don't need to know," he said turning his back and running away.
"Wait!" Yugi called but then the bell rang and it was time for next class. Yugi decided he'd phone Sakura, see if she was ok and ask her for Syaoran's phone number. He was very mysterious, and at the same time if you brought something up then he'd be embarrassed. He was very unusual. Was his puzzle giving him any trouble?
/Yami?/ He asked as he entered his soulroom.
//Yes?//
/What did Syaoran want with me?/
//He thought you were evil and were trying to destroy Sakura.//
/So does that mean that he really likes Sakura?/
//Maybe.//
"Yugi!!!!!!!" The teacher yelled. Yugi blushed feriously. Why did he always have to get this at school. Why couldn't he pay attention to class and talk to his Yami at the same time? Yugi noticed Syaoran staring at him as well. He probably thinks that I'm doing something evil with my puzzle. Or maybe I'm just too lazy to pay attention to class.
"Yes?" He asked like nothing happened.
"Don't 'yes' me young man. Why didn't you answer my question?"
"What question?"
"If you are partisipating in the dance on Monday?"
Today was Thursday, so it wouldn't be long till the day. But who would he go with? I guess he could say no. "Um, n..." Suddenly he changed, "yes." He said simply and changed back. Yugi, puzzled forgot what he said. His yami must've took over. But what did he say?
/Yami, did you answer yes or no?/
//Yes.//
/Ah, who am I going to go with? How could you? Now I'll have to say I sick!/
//Let's see what the future has in store, first.//
Yugi began paying attention to what was happening in the real world now. He took out his science work book out and began writing notes.
*
Soon, school was over and Yugi phoned Sakura first thing. "Hello, is Sakura here?" He asked hoping she would be all right.
"This is Sakura." She almost laughed but ended up coughing instead.
"So, I guess you were sick."
"Yep, what, you worried about me?" She almost wanted an answer of yes from him.
"No, Syaoran was really worried about you."
"Oh," she almost said depressingly.
"Well, I gotta go, bye." Yugi said as a excuse to leave. "You sould phone Syaoran."
"I will, bye." They both hung up.
*
"Hello, this is Syaoran."
"Hi, it's Sakura."
"Oh, hello Sakura. Why weren't you at school today?"
"Just sick. Yugi told me to phone you."
"Yes, about that. There is another side of him. A darkside."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that that puzzle thing he wears is a spirit from Egypt living insdie of him."
"It's not April fools day yet, Syaoran."
"I'm serious. Meet me tommorow at lunch hour and I'll show you what I mean."
"Ok, bye."
"Oh, one other thing.."
"Yeah,"
"Stay away from Yugi."
"Why?" But Syaoran hung up leaving Sakura to thoughts. 'Should I leave Yugi and make another friendship with one of the other exchange students?'
