Chapter 1
Sora Fukaku…Yume Shiroku…Chigireta Tsubasa….
(Deeper into the Sky. Illusionary dreams are white. Wings scattered to a thousand pieces.)
"My father once told me something I won't forget. I still remember that cold evening at the park. I was six and we were walking hand in hand through the pasty sparkling wonderland. I believe it was late December and I just recently recovered from the accustomed winter flu that I would constantly catch as a child. We were walking slowly, watching the flawless white flecks of snow flutter from the obsidian black sky. It was such a quite night. Mainly, people were at home preparing for New Year, save for few couples that were strolling around like us or kissing under the pallid streetlight.
As we were nearing the playground, my father slowed his pace to catch few snowflakes with his free hand. He had a black furred glove on, so the few dots of white were clearly visible. He brought it closer to my face and told me to take a look. As I did, I was amazed by its symmetry. It was truly perfect. He then gently shrugged it off on my hand as I continued to gape at it in wonder.
"If you open up your mind and soul, you might witness a miracle." I looked up at him as he said those words to me and all I saw was his kind eyes and soft smile.
We walked on and just as I began to think over the thing my father told me, I noticed the little blue penguin statue to my left. Something about it startled me. I let go of his hand and came closer to it.
It was shimmering in the most fascinating way, as if it was covered in thousands little silver stars. I held my breath as my hand carefully traveled up towards the statue to touch the marvel I was seeing, to see if it was real. At that very moment I knew I was witnessing that miracle.
Now, after so many years, when I recall that night and the thing I saw, I can't help but laugh at my silliness. It was most likely the hoarfrost that covered the penguin's surface and since it was a rather rough, uneven surface, the shine and the reflection from the nearby light gave it that extraordinary effect. Yet, I still can't help but sigh, as I remember the feeling I had and the words that played in my mind at that moment. I was just a kid, but I let my mind and soul open, to let in something that was beyond what one could witness or touch. Perhaps, that was a miracle and not just my imagination."
She woke up crying. She sat up hastily and pushed off her black cover on the floor. Her eyes traveled across the room to her alarm clock that read 6:24 a.m.
"Damn! I could've slept in 5 more minutes! Why did I dream about otou-san anyways…" She cursed again and rubbed her bloodshot emerald eyes.
After a minute of rubbing and groaning, she let her exhausted drowsy body fall back on the black silk bed sheets, her eyelids soon followed to cover those tired and red, now from the continuous rubbing, eyes. And just as she was relaxing and letting the sleep kingdom envelop her, the alarm clock announced its presence with that hideously annoying beeping sound that goes right through your brain and stays there for the whole day, accompanied by `A rose for the dead' by Theatre of Tragedy that blared on full volume from the little speakers.
"FUCK!" Sakura practically flew out of her bed, landing by her table to shut off the alarm and lower the volume.
"Why do I always forget to turn it down before I go to sleep… great… now onii-chan will be mad for sure… and call me…"
"KAIJUU!" a furious voice from the room next to hers interrupted the chitchat she was having with herself.
"...all day..." she closed her eyes and sighed. "GOMEN ONII-CHAN!" she shouted back.
"Not like it's my freaking fault anyways… lucky bastard, he doesn't needs to get up at the freaking dawn! I don't think I can handle another day of this nightmare…"
With that said, Sakura Kinomoto dragged herself to the nearest bathroom to have a nice refreshing shower that she deserved.
After she changed into her regular colorless clothes. (a small `hi' from me. By colorless I meant something not bright and sunny, something more dark and well in all possible shades of black. pretty cliché I know^^ No more `hi's from me I hope^^) Today she chose to wear her favorite ruched leather shirt with lace up sides, over that she put on her top with chiffon hood and sleeves. Next, her treasured leathered pants and to finish her look she chose to wear the rugged boots in oiled leather. Naturally, everything was in black to match her, now, everyday mood. She paid very little attention to her makeup. All that was needed were the black eyeliner and few strokes of dark forest green eye shadow, to enhance her eyes, followed by onyx matte lipstick, to cover those hideously soft pink lips. Her hair was left lose, brushed through carefully and then messed up in the most artistic way possible.
After her look was assembled, save for her boots that were still in their place by the door, she packed her books and hurried downstairs for a quick breakfast.
"Damn. No time for making lunch again. I guess I have no choice, but to celebrate Shao-kun's return at some noodle place… oh I'm such a bad girlfriend.' She laughed at herself as she finished washing the dishes. Sakura grabbed her stuff and went down the hall to the entrance. She was about to put on her boots, when out of nowhere her little guardian in a shape of yellow stuffed animal appeared.
"Ohayo, Sakura." there was something strange about his tone of voice.
"What is it Kero-chan. I don't have time, I'm going to be late for my class…as usual…" she greeted him without looking up.
"That gaki of yours hasn't returned yet, has he?"
"He's coming today. Why you asking?" she looked up as she was done with tying her boots.
"No reason…I just want to tell you that I haven't been feeling exactly…in place lately…"
"What do you mean?" she stared at him and noticed the strange expression on his small face.
"I feel awful menace coming our way…you don't feel anything like that?"
"No…not really…"she closed her eyes and concentrated for a second, just to make sure. "Nope, sorry. I think you just need to eat something sweet." She shrugged it off.
"It's more serious than that… Yue has been feeling it as well. I talked to him a couple of days ago."
"Yukito came over???" she hasn't seen her old friend in ages. Every time he comes, she's never there for some strange reason.
"Yes. That bothered him as well. He said he hasn't been able to trace you. He fears your aura is changing way too rapidly."
"Nonsense. Listen, I'm already late for the train as it is. If you see him again call me and we'll set a meeting date or something. Just don't go all overprotective for no reason." Sakura stood up and tossed her bag over her shoulder.
"Wait! Sakura! Watch out for any new strangers you might meet in the future. And stay away from Shaoran for a while. I feel as if something strange may be coming from him." Kero looked pleading at his mistress that he loved so much.
"Sure. Whatever. Ittekimasu." She slammed the door behind her and rushed towards the train station.
"Itterashai…" Kero-chan sighed sadly. "She's never been so careless before… what's happening to her..?"
He flew up the stairs and knocked on Touya's door.
"Touya! I'm sorry to wake you up, but we need to talk!"
Sakura barely made it on time. She tried to calm her breath after she settled in her seat with Rika on her left and Naoko on her right. All three decided to take this archeology course together.
"Just like in elementary school, Sakura-chan always makes it just in time!" Naoko exclaimed happily, as she patted her friend on the back gently.
"I don't know how you do it, honestly! If I'm late, I'm late. If I'm on time, I'm on time." Rika shook her head. Sakura just sighed and dropped her head on her arms that rested atop of her desk.
The day went by rather quickly, even though at certain points it seemed to Sakura as if time seized to exist and minutes were frozen in eternity of the Void. At those certain moments she tried to imagine seeing Shaoran again, feeling his strong warm arms wrapped tightly around her in a passionate embrace and feeling his soft sweet lips fastened to hers in a consuming kiss. The daydreaming always got her in trouble and it certainly didn't help her this time. Her mind rammed through all the possibilities of her welcoming her love home, yes, even the most perverted and naughty possibilities, that she completely forgot of one important duty she had to take care of at that moment. She had a misfortune of daydreaming during a midterm exam in Calculus. Still, nothing could break her spirit of reunion.
After finishing up with the makeup test and gathering all her homeworks in her book bag, she dashed towards the closest sushi bar to order Shaoran's favorite meals. She knew that he'd be disappointed by the fact that his future wife didn't make him any bento, but she hoped that the plans she had in store for him would make up for whatever meals she made him miss. While thinking all of this through she didn't realize that she reached her destination, the bus stop. Sakura checked her watch to make sure she wasn't late and sighed with relief. The bus wouldn't come for another 10 minutes or so. The girl tried to calm down as she settled herself on the nearby bench, resting her back against the glass of the booth. Her mind involuntary traveled back to the dream she had last night. Her eyes darkened with sorrow and ache as she thought of her beloved father. Its already been 3 years since he passed away. She tried hard, she really did, no one better than onii-chan and those who are very close to her knew the hardship and suffering she went through and still she showed enormous determination and willpower to go on with her life and make everyone proud. Shaoran was constantly there to support her, in fact, if it wasn't for him, Tomoyo, onii-chan who wouldn't allow her to get her own place until she finished college and insisted to live with her in their old house, Kero and Yukito she would've died, emotional, if not physically. As she traveled back to that winter evening with her father she was lost to reality for a split second and during that second some strange sensation overcame her, something she hasn't felt since Cards or Eriol's mischief. It was dark, foreboding, threatening her and warning her of some unknown danger that was steadily coming her way. The girl was so lost in that whirlpool of menacing feelings that she was utterly oblivious to the world about her and the fact that the bus she was waiting for at last came.
She jumped up when she heard the breaks screech. Her look was dazed and unfocused, but she quickly recovered and catching up to the huge crowed that was quickly forming in front of the van she did a mental check on her appearance and then set all of her attention on the door of the bus that was still closed.
Random people began to pour out of those automatic doors filled with random luggage, random packages and random conversations about the most random things. At last, Sakura caught a sight of shoulder lengthen messy chestnut hair, green top and pair of chocolate eyes. Something about his eyes made her whole body shudder, as cold sweat broke from her forehead. She didn't know what it was, but all she cared at the moment was to be near him so she gradually began to make her way closer to the bus. He started his descend off those steps in one hand carrying his sports bag and another stretched out as if to help someone down. In a second Sakura's eyes spotted that someone. It was a drop dead gorgeous girl that one would probably only find in a most exquisite magazine. She had long raven hair with streaks of silver running through them, tall, well built, yet slim body, her features perfectly shaped and in proportion resembling that of an aristocrat or a royalty. However, none of that really catches attention if you compare it to her eyes, her eyes the same color that Sakura possessed, which lacked its warmth, loveliness and light. They were stunning yes, but these eyes were dead and only became alive with menace, hatred and seduction. All of this passed through Sakura as the mysterious girl glanced at her for an instant and her small pouty mouth turned into the smirk of Death and smirk of Triumph. This girl's empty eyes shifted back to Shaoran's outstretched arm and his shaded eyes that seemed to glow with obedience and adoration. She took his hand with her small one and descended the steps in the most dramatic way possible. As they moved away from the crowed that stirred willingly to let them through she put her hands on Shaoran's face pulling it closer to hers. Something snapped in Sakura's body. She didn't know what it was, yet something was very wrong and the instant that she saw that wicked beauty's lips covering the lips of the man she loved, everything stopped and became a miasma for Sakura.
That moment she was shattered.
That moment she died.
That moment her white wings were scattered to thousand pieces.
A/N. How did you enjoy that? I always appreciate some feedback to help me improve so if you got something to say don't hesitate and don't be shy! Comments and suggestions are more than welcome!
The dream at the beginning of the chapter is actually something I experienced myself I remembered it and wanted to share. It really was something quiet extraordinary, well then again nature tends to be the most amazing thing if we only bring ourselves to look with open hearts and open minds! In any case. I really haven't worked on this fanfic even though this is my primary story that I have been mulling over for the past 4 years maybe even more… I figured I will reupload the edited versions and hopefully that will bring me back into it. I have lots of parts written already but they are all over the place and mainly concern Sakura's past lives. Now isn't that exciting? heheh.
Thank you once again my dear readers^^ I love you all!!! ::huggles her readears::
And now we must all depart to our lovely bed I wish I had one like sakura in meh story ohoohohohohoho^^
