Prologue: A New Destiny Awaits
Kinomoto Sakura hopped down the stairs, two at a time, humming cheerfully to herself. It was once again a new day to be happy, and she, was definitely feeling merry. The moment she opened her eyes that morning, she had begun her fresh new day by saying a greeting to the birds, the sky, the clouds, the sun.
"Ohayo Oka-san(mother)!" she smiled at a photo of her mother, which was dearly placed in a nice wooden frame. Her mother had died when she was only three, and Sakura had always wondered what was the reason behind her mother's death, but her father and brother usually avoided the question, so she never really knew the answer.
"Ohayo Otou-san(father)!" she greeted as she skipped into the kitchen, where her father and brother were sitting down and eating their breakfasts in silence. She felt a sense of uneasiness, her family was sort of quiet that day, but soon shook it off, thinking that she was just imagining things.
"Ohayo Oni-chan(brother), and don't call me a kaijuu(monster), because I'm not." she said pleasantly before her brother could utter a single word.
But all the same, as he helped himself to the freshly brewed coffee, he muttered teasingly, "Kaijuu.(monster)"
Sakura immediately jerked her head up, in the midst of eating a buttered toast, and glared at him. However, in a few seconds, the scowl on her face disappeared, replaced by a wide grin. Touya stared at her in surprise.
"I'm in a good mood today. Shan't argue with you, it'll only spoil my mood."
"Sakura-chan, you seem to be excited about the job searching ne?" Fujitaka smiled at his daughter when she nodded her head eagerly.
Soon the three of them finished their breakfast and helped one another to clear the dishes. Just as Sakura was about to go, Fujitaka stopped her abruptly.
"Hoe?"
Walking over to her in a few long strides with Touya following behind, Fujitaka grasped his daughter by the shoulders and hugged her in a fierce embrace. "I shall miss you, Sakura-chan."
"Otou-san?" she asked, startled by his actions.
"Kaijuu," Touya said from behind Fujitaka, "You won't get to hug Otou-san like this for quite a long time, you better hug more."
When Fujitaka released her, she could see tears welling up in her father's eyes. She glanced at her brother, extremely puzzled by then. Her father and brother were definitely acting weird since this morning. She had found it quite puzzling then, and now, she was sure that she wasn't imagining things at all. Something was wrong. Really wrong.
"Oni-chan, what's happening?" she questioned, "I'm just going to find myself a job. It's not like I will not return for a very long time."
"And Otou-san, where are you going?" she panicked, while Fujitaka headed towards his study room. She stared at his back, gaping after him.
"I'm just retrieving something! Please wait for a moment!" Fujitaka called back.
Sakura threw her brother a baffled look, not understanding a single thing that was happening. She tried to think her hardest, but she still could not figure out what actually happened.
Touya smiled sadly at her, shrugging his shoulders.
"You'll soon know, Kaijuu." He explained mysteriously.
In a few minutes Fujitaka returned, and Sakura stared at his hand, which was tightly clutching a red book. What did a red book have to do with her father and brother's weird actions? She wondered thoughtfully.
"Sakura-chan, this is your book, rightfully yours." Fujitaka said, handing over the red book over to his stunned daughter.
"My. . .book?" Sakura murmured disbelievingly as she went to receive the red book over. "I've never seen this book before! How can it be my book?"
Touya stepped forward, and urged her to try and open the book. Sakura looked at him as though he were crazy and flipped the book over to its front cover. The book's cover image quite shocked her, although she didn't know why. By seeing the yellow winged beast on the cover, she immediately sensed something magical. She could not explain the feeling she experienced, she just sort of knew. But. . .magical? Was she crazy too? But the feeling was still there, and she could feel it clearly and strongly. She slowly fingered the printed words on the book, named "The Clow".
"The Clow?" she muttered. "What type of book name is that?"
Fujitaka patted her shoulders, and just like Touya, urged her to try and open the book.
Sakura nodded her head, and positioned her delicate fingers on the lock. All of a sudden, the lock opened with a loud "CLANG!", startling her for moment, and causing her to almost drop the book in shock.
"Whew! That lock sure is rusty!" commented Sakura as she lifted her eyes to look at her father and brother.
Meanwhile, Fujitaka and Touya was staring at her in astonishment.
"Hoe?" Sakura said, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Realisation dawned on Fujitaka's and Touya's faces and they continued to stare at her.
"So what Nadeshiko said was true. You are the Clow Mistress!" Fujitaka exclaimed breathlessly.
"Hoe? Clow Mistress?" Sakura was getting more and more confused.
The book in Sakura hands suddenly glowed.
"HOE!" she cried out, and accidentally dropped the book in stunned silence.
All three of them stared at the red glowing book lying on the floor, not expecting what would come next. Just then, a yellow head slowly popped out of the book, followed by its white wings, its body, and its legs and tail. . .the creature slowly lifted up its head. . .slowly opening its eyes. . .
"KONNYAYACHIWA!!!"
The three of them fell off the ground (anime style), sweat dropping.
"Thanks for waking me up after such a deep sleep." The yellow winged creature said.
"Eh. . .anata wa dare(who are you)?" Sakura asked, still staring at the creature with widened eyes. Behind her, Fujitaka and Touya's jaws dropped to the ground, staring open-mouthed at it.
The creature lifted its head proudly and introduced itself to them.
"Watashi wa(I am) Cerberus, the guardian of the Clow Cards."
"Hoe?"
Fujitaka nodded his head, confirming. "Okay, it's confirmed. Sakura-chan, you are the Clow Mistress."
"Hoe?"
Cerberus stared at Sakura, "You must be the Clow Mistress then. You're the one who opened this book right?"
Sakura nodded, utterly bewildered.
"Good, that means you've some magic in you. Normal people usually can't open this book except the Clow Mistress."
Touya patted Sakura's shoulders. "Kaijuu, time to pack your clothes."
Sakura glanced at him, in a daze. She could not seem to register the shock of hearing that she had magic from a yellow winged creature named Cerberus. "Uh, pack what clothes?"
Cerberus nodded in agreement, floating in the air. "Yup, time for your journey to begin. What's your name?" he asked.
"Kinomoto Sakura desu." Sakura answered faintly.
Cerberus looked at Fujitaka, asking, "You must be Sakura's father." Seeing Fujitaka's nod, it continued its question, "Have you told her about the mission?"
In reply, Fujitaka shook his head. "I thought we would confirm Nadeshiko's last words first."
"Oka-san?" Sakura exclaimed. "What does Oka-san have to do with this?"
Touya sighed heavily and began to explain to his mystified sister. "Kaijuu, before oka-san died, she told us that you are born to be the destined Clow Mistress. She was the one who handed the red book over to Otou-san, and ordered us to give it to you when you've finished your schooling. She told us that this red book will tell answer all your questions about the Clow Mistress."
Cerberus waved his paw about impatiently, "I'll tell Sakura all about the Clow Cards along the journey, just get ready in a few minutes time! We must hurry and get back all those scattered cards back!"
Fujitaka nodded his head in agreement, "Sakura-chan, forget all about your job hunting. You need to pack all your clothes and whatever you need in a luggage bag, afterall, you will not be returning home that quickly."
Sakura raised her hands desperately, "Chioto Matte(Wait)! What journey? And why won't I be returning home?"
Cerberus heaved a sigh, "This journey will take us months! Just listen to me and pack your clothes and whatever you need! Say your final goodbye to your family and get going! I'll explain to you along the way!"
Sakura nodded obediently and hurried up the stairs to her bedroom, getting out a carrier bag and began to pack her things. . .
~*~*~*
"While Sakura-chan is packing, can you tell us all about this mission thing?" Fujitaka asked worriedly.
Cerberus nodded, "Firstly, I would like to warn you that this journey is perilous and there is danger everywhere the moment we enter the Other World. For a very long time ago. . ."
Fujitaka and Touya began listening, their eyebrows scrunched together in anxiousness, no doubt frightened for their beloved Sakura. . .
~*~*~*
Sakura entered the bathroom, scanning around to check if there is anything they need. Her eyes suddenly caught sight of the very thing she needed every month. Sanitary pads! Gosh, she almost forgot about them!
Sakura still could not believe what she was encountering that very morning. Was she dreaming? Or was it really reality? Did she really have magic? Many questions were still bubbling inside her, but somehow that she had this feeling that her questions would soon be answered. In one way or another, Sakura seemed to believe that everything she had just experienced was true, it really was true.
And if what that Cerberus had spoken were all true words, that means that she would be leaving home for quite a long time, going to some other place for their journey. She stared hard at her bedroom, a sense of homesickness creeping into her. Shaking her head, she promised to herself quietly, "I will come back."
~*~*~*
"Must she really go Cerberus?" Fujitaka asked worriedly.
"Yes, she must. There is only one Clow Mistress in this whole world, and only she can prevent the world from evil. The whole world is depending on her to give them peace and harmony, Fujitaka. She has a responsibility since she was born."
Touya folded his arms and leaned back against the couch and remarked, "It seems quite exaggerated and far-fetched though."
Cerberus snorted. "You humans think that you know everything. But no, there have been many sorceresses and wizards working tirelessly, and secretly too, against the dark evil. You never knew about magic until your wife told you right?"
"Magic is what many people don't believe in, and that's where they are wrong. They think that magic is a bad thing, but that's only because they fear it. Just like humans, there are good magical people and evil magical people too." Cerberus said.
"So this Other World you were talking about," Fujitaka queried, "Where is it?"
"The Other World is not in this world of course, it's in another dimension." Cerberus explained. "A map is given in The Clow book of all the places in the Other World."

After a while. . .
Sakura emerged from her bedroom, carrying a bag over her shoulders.
"Okay, I'm ready!" she called out while walking down the wooden staircase. "So where do we go now?"
Cerberus gazed at her solemnly, "I will first warn you that the journey we are taking will consist of many dangers, so be prepared. You might not escape from the World unharmed, if you cannot defeat the evils in the Other World. Are you afraid?"
Sakura breathed in deeply, her heart pounding. "N-no."
"That's my girl." Fujitaka smiled at her.
Touya nodded at her as an acknowledgement.
"Good, now Clow Mistress, to open the portal to the Other World," Cerberus instructed, "Close your eyes and take in a deep breath. . ."
Sakura obeyed, closing her eyes shut, and took in a deep breath.
"Concentrate. . ."
Sakura's fists were clenched tightly.
"And open the portal. . ."
She could feel it.
"OPEN!" she yelled, feeling strong as she felt something rushing out of her. Behind her, Touya and Fujitaka gasped in surprise. A gust of wind blew her hair away from her face, her eyes was still shut and she could see nothing. . .she heard Cerberus in the background, chuckling.
"Very good, Sakura-chan. Very good." Cerberus praised warmly, "You may open your eyes now."
She did that and gasped the moment she opened her eyes to her surroundings. A deep dark pink circle that seemed like flames appeared in front of her. In the circle were light pink swirls, sparkling mysteriously. Was this the portal Cerberus was talking about? And how. . .how did she do it?
Cerberus smiled, "You'll make a very good Clow Mistress. First time using your magic eh?"
Sakura nodded silently for she didn't know what to say at all.
"Time to go." Cerberus said and flew down beside Sakura. "Say your goodbyes now."
Sakura turned around, facing her father and brother. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she stammered emotionally, "I'm going now, Otou-san, Oni-chan."
Fujitaka walked over to her and hugged her tightly once again.
"Do your best Sakura-chan, no matter what. Live, and never give up. Understand?" his voice was muffled as he embraced his beloved daughter.
"Kaijuu," Touya came to her just when Fuijtaka released her. "Remember to come back safely. If you don't come back home, I'll come after you!" for the first time, he smiled sadly at her and ruffled her honey brown hair.
"Un!" Sakura nodded her head, suddenly beginning to miss her father and brother already.
"Let's go then." Cerberus said quietly.
"Hai."
With a last look at her family members, Sakura, together with Cerberus stepped into the light pink swirls, through the flaming deep dark pink circle. The swirls engulfed them and before Fujitaka and Touya could even blink their eyes, they has vanished. Gone. Father and son exchanged looks before sighing, and went back to their usual daily activities.
