Chapter 1: Steps of Eyes
Chapter 1: Steps of Eyes
Tomoyo's POV
I've finally graduated college! I, being the top of my class and the youngest, will be teaching at preeminent school in my hometown. I wonder what this experience will be like... I was never really interested in getting into a relationship so teaching at a middle school wouldn't be bad...Hopefully, I'll fit right in...
“Class, I am retiring this year. In my place, I would like to introduce a very interesting and quite young teacher. She was the top of her class in Todai [Tokyo University]. I'm sure that she'll be the perfect role model for you all. May I introduce, Daidouji-sensei.” Gracefully, a girl with long wavy purple hair and purple eyes walked in room wearing a long white skirt and a bright yellow polo with a smile cross her face.
As she bowed her head before the class, whispers ran across the room. “Hello Students. My name is Daidouji Tomoyo. I'm thirteen years-old and hope to enjoy teaching this class. I'll be sweet, but strict, so don't underestimate me!”
One of the female students raised her arm and asked, “You're so young. Is this a joke? I mean, you're the same age as most of us! I can't pay my respects to a chick that might be younger than me!”
“Like you respect anyone in the first place.” The boy next to her whispered.
“You little shit!” She grabbed his collar staring hard with her fist at the ready.
“Fukugawa-san!” The retiring teacher scolded. “Please pay your respects to Daidouji-sensei! And put Touya-kun down!”
“Yamamoto-sensei, please be more realistic! I can't pay my respects to someone who hasn't even married yet! She's as old as me.”
“Fukugawa-san! Please report to the director's office!” the girl push the boy down into his seat hard and stomped out of the classroom. “I'm very sorry, Daidouji-sensei. She's just very ignorant.”
“Please don't say that. She's just very shocked. Who isn't?”
He sneered in confusion and said, “Well, I guess I'll leave this class up to you. Good luck.”
“Thank you. I hope you enjoy and relax during your retirement.” The teacher nodded and left the classroom. “Let's start out with attendance.” She took out the attendance notebook and started to call out names. “Atsuka Aki?” After each name there was a “Present” or “Here” until one name. “Hiiragizawa Eriol?”
Another student raised his arm. “Excuse me, Daidouji-sensei. Hiiragizawa-kun will not be attending class today.”
“Why not? Does he know it's the first day of school?”
“Of course, he does. He's just being stubborn again.”
“Again?”
“Yes, that's correct.” A female voice added.
“Thank you...ah— ”
“Moribashi Renzo, Daidouji-sensei. The one that recently answered your question is Fuji Midori.”
“Ah...Thank you, Moribashi-kun and Fuji-san.” Midori raised her arm. “Yes, Fuji-san?”
She slightly smirked and said, “On behalf of the class, I'm terribly sorry for Fukugawa-san's behavior.” Renzo rolled his eyes and a few students whispered “Kiss-up” and “Teacher's pet”.
“It's okay. Let's begin class.” As she wrote on the chalkboard, she thought, `It looks good so far... Moribashi-kun and Fuji-san seem nice. Hiiragizawa Eriol... I think I'm going to have a problem with him... Fukugawa Mai... It seems she's very tense and aggressive indeed. I should think about this later...'
----
DING DONG! The lunch bell rang. After Tomoyo taught about four classes, she was relieved. For lunch, she started to walk to a nearby café. “Daidouji-sensei!” Midori and Renzo said in unison.
“Yes? Do you two need something or don't understand any of the music I taught in class?”
Midori seem to have a bit of a worried face. “Hiiragizawa-kun...he's not a normal sort of person. Ren— I mean, Moribashi-kun and I would like to inform you something about him.”
“Neither is Fukugawa-san.” Renzo coughed.
“I suppose you can tell me now. You two can have lunch with me, okay?” she smiled sweetly, as always. Renzo and Midori nodded and all three of them left to the café.
----
Arriving at the café, they took their seats and ordered they're lunch. Tomoyo felt uneasy. It was only the first day and already she had school drama. “Let's say that Hiiragizawa-kun isn't exactly a model student...” Renzo began. “He is smart and decent when he wants to be... But other than that...He's pretty much a rebel…”
Midori nodded in agreement. “Daidouji-sensei... Once you meet him, I would suggest transferring to another school.”
Tomoyo shook her head, not knowing what to do. “Fuji-san... Moribashi-kun... I don't really understand why you're telling me this. I'm just a music and English teacher and nothing more.”
Midori smiled and replied, “We are very concerned. He might hurt you. He really don't considered that fact that you're just an educator of music and English and-”
“Oh my god, I'm sorry to interrupt, but I hate seeing this… Don't listen to a single word she says.” He fixed his glasses and smirked. “We're here because Midori loves to scare teachers with her `I'm concerned' act. Shame on you, using our dear friend, Eriol.”
Glaring, Midori barked back and said, “Well, you're here, because you think she's cute!”
“Jealous?”
As Midori's hand was coming up behind Renzo, Tomoyo's hand already grabbed Midori's wrist. “Excuse me!” Tomoyo raised her voice. “I'm still confused. Don't use me for your selfish reasons.”
Midori smiled and said, “It's not exactly selfish.”
“It's not.” Renzo agreed. “We're merely warning you. Eriol isn't a jerk. He's just moody like that. He's actually not a bad guy as long as you don't talk to him.”
“Huh?”
Midori and Renzo's brows rose. It seemed like Eriol had some kind of reputation. Midori cleared her throat. “So, you've never hear of Eriol as `the troubled-fool'?”
Tomoyo considered listening since it seemed like they really knew Eriol, calling him by his first name. “The troubled-fool? I don't think skipping school is considered—”
“It's not just that. He has a very complicated past. He doesn't know what to do.”
“Then I'll help him as a teacher to a student.”
It appeared that she didn't exactly grasped what was said. Renzo sighed, thinking Tomoyo was dense. “It's not as simply as you think. I mean, do you know what kind of future he can have? I mean, he inherited millions, but he lives in a small, pathetic apartment. His brain is massive. He can date any girl he wants. So what do you think is wrong?”
Tomoyo was still confused. “Why are you telling me this? Isn't this too much for the first day of school? I would like to help, but I think this is too fast.”
“We have to tell you this.” Midori began. “All new teachers always want to help.”
“Yup.”
Midori quickly got up. “I told you, Ren. We should stop this. We're only making her curious. Besides, she's not going to take the time to hear us. Heck, if she does, she's just going to chicken out.”
“He's a student. I can't just not help. It's just not-”
“Healthy? He runs every day.”
“No, but—”
“Daidouji-sensei... Just be aware.” Renzo warned. “You're cute and I don't want you to get hurt, making you leave to school.” He winked, being the nerdy pervert he was. They left the café with their masks back on: Midori as the popular teachers' pet and Renzo as the nerd that is married to his laptop.
----
About ten minutes after Renzo and Midori left, Tomoyo headed to school. The wind gusted up as she walked up the stone steps. Suddenly, she lost her grip, making her purse fall to the floor spreading all her belongs on the floor. “Excuse me. Are you okay?” A deep voice asked.
”Yeah, I'm fine. I just need to— Ah!” The wind came up again. Tomoyo lost her balance and was about to fall down the stairs. The stranger grabbed her hand and swiftly went behind her and caught her. “T-t-thank you. T-t-thank you very much.”
He sighed and replied, “Whatever.” Finally, Tomoyo noticed that he was wearing the school uniform.
“You go to this school.”
“Really.” He replied in a rather monotone voice. “Just watch out.”
“I will. Thank you very much.” She quickly got up and pick up her things. She looked at him more closely. His eyes were a dark blue and hair was the same. His skin was pale and expression was expressionless. It seemed familiar from profiles she was looking at earlier. “You must be Hiiragizawa- kun.”
As he walked away, he stopped and said, “And what are you going to do about? You think I'm going to hurt you or something. Psh, I'm not going to waste my time on a perfect little student like you.” He knew full-well that people talk about him that way.
But Tomoyo was never that easy to get rid of. “I'm not a student.” As always, Tomoyo wasn't shy or afraid to say what's on her mind. “I'm your new homeroom teacher, Daidouji Tomoyo.”
“I don't care who the fuck you are. Saying you're a teacher is even worse.”
Tomoyo just stared at him walk to school and thought `I wonder what bothers him so much. School is that bad?'
----
Only a few minutes after her encounter with Eriol, she heard yelling through the school halls. Near the boys' restroom, trash bags and toilet paper cover the door way. It reeked of foul urine and was very strong. `What's going on?'
“Oh my fucking god, what the hell!” Eriol's voice echoed.
The vice principal's voice seemed be to echoing as well. “Is that all you have to say for yourself? Don't act like you didn't do this mess. All the clue point to you!”
“I'm telling the truth! I didn't trash the boys' restroom! How does every clue point to me anyways? It could have been you, you old fart!”
“I would never! Why would I demolish the boys' restroom? It was most likely one of you rebellious piece of garbage!”
“What did you call me!?”
“Garbage! Because that's what you are!”
Before any violence occurred, Tomoyo intervened. “Excuse me, Oguchi-sensei, is there really any evidence that Hiiragizawa-kun did this?”
“Of course not, because garbage always stink. Daidouji-sensei, it was obviously Hiiragizawa! I believe he did not come to school on time today and missed four classes!? That's just enough time to destroy the entire restroom!”
“He can't be the only rebellious one. Tons of teenagers, his age, are very rebellious.”
“You obviously don't know this demon.” Oguchi-sensei glared hard at Eriol. “Daidouji-sensei, please go to your class. The bell will ring soon. It might be best for you to be there.”
“Oguchi-sensei, he's one of my students.”
“Daidouji-sensei! Do you would you like to be fired on the first day?”
“No, Oguchi-sensei, but giving children confidence is what educators do.”
Eriol rolled his eyes and murmured, “Oh my god, just shut up and leave me the fuck alone.”
“Don't use that language! And as for you Daidouji-sensei ...Go to your class. I'm not asking anymore.” The bell rang. Tomoyo just sighed and walked away. At the corner of her eye, she saw an expression on Eriol's face. He was totally disguised. `Why didn't he try to defend himself?'
----
“Hey, you!” Eriol stopped her. It was three o'clock. Class was out and Eriol just happened to catch her.
“You're welcome.” She was about to walk off until he grabbed her arm. Chills ran down her spine.
“I didn't want to say `Thank you.'”She turned around and saw that exact expression on his face from earlier. He was just in disguise. “Just don't waste your time on someone like me. I don't need your help with stuff like that. It's just Oguchi, the asshole.”
“Well, as an educator, I have to help students.”
“Where did you hear something ridiculous like that from?”
“It's not ridiculous. Well, I have to go now. Bye, Hiiragizawa-kun.”
“Whatever.” She walked off, making him think, `Who the hell does she think she is?'
Suddenly, Renzo and Midori walked up behind him. He just stared at Tomoyo as her hair swayed one side to the other. Midori waved her hand in his face and said, “Isn't she just amazing?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Renzo laughed and said, “You know you like her. Well, I have to say...She's hot.”
“Are you out of your mind? She's a teacher. Besides I don't like girls like that.”
“There was Fuyuka Aiko-chan.” Midori pointed out.
Eriol rolled his eyes. “That was first grade.”
“HA! You can't resist that fine number. She's hot.” Renzo added being the pervert he was.
Midori pushed him. “Yeah, we're trying to get you in the game. I mean, it's been so long. Get her some… Uh…”
“Magnolias.” Renzo fixed his glasses.
“Magnolias?”
Renzo grinned. Out of his black shoulder bag, he took out a small laptop. “Hacking is a useful skill.”
“REN!” Midori scolded. “You read my virtual diary again, didn't you?”
“Well... I don't think that Hiroshi-kun has a nice ass...”
“REN!”
Eriol just walked away and said, “You guys... I'm going home now...”
