"At the Beginning"

A Card Captor Sakura Fan fiction

Disclaimer: 'Card Captor Sakura' and its characters do not belong to me, but damn, I wish they did! As a matter of fact, I wish I was a part of CLAMP so I could read all their wonderful stuff first! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

The titled of this story was derived from a music video I got my hands on (and damn, is it a good one... now if they'll only do one for Yuki and Toya. {pouts}). The song is by... um... damn... I think it's Donna Lewis and... Well, shoot. I'll have to look it up on my "Anastasia" soundtrack. Still, it was a good song, a good video, and I liked it perhaps too much.... (Mari-chan: Stop playing that damn video and get to the Weiss boys already! 'A View to a Kill' rocks! Or, even better! Let's watch the Gravitation one, "Proud"! {starts singing} 'What have you done today, to make you fee~el proud?')

Warnings: This story DOES NOT contains yaoi! <wow. Let us all die from shock!> Although, the pairings of Yukito/Yue x Toya are briefly mentioned, this fic deals with the main character of the series (yet again, another shocker! Will they never cease?) Sakura and Li Shaolan.

~At the Beginning With You~

Sakura stretched, yawning as she blurrily blinked her eyes open. Beside her, Shaolan grumbled before turning towards her, an arm reaching out to thread around her waist, dragging her back against him. Smiling, she turning into her boyfriend, resting her head against his bare chest, snuggling her chilly legs against his pajama bottoms.

"Wo ai ni."

She placed a tiny kiss to his breast. "Ai shiteru, zutto."

To say Shaolan's and Sakura's relationship was commenced with hardships would be a gross understatement. First there was the problem of Shaolan's arrogance and Sakura's ignorance, followed by Yue as the Judge. After that it was Shaolan having to admit his feelings for Sakura while Meiling was hanging off his arm begging for attention. And then Sakura's clueless ness about romantic matters, followed by more trouble with the cards, and then Shaolan was called home. Then he was able to return to help battle the emptiness card, and Sakura got to tell him she loved him, too. A long distance romance that spanned the three years of Junior High until he could transfer back to Tokyo and Sakura's school.

After that it was a matter of Sakura's older brother accepting "the brat" as the person his sister chose to date, Shaolan's sisters go-goggling Sakura on her visits back to Hong Kong with him, and Tomoyo threatening bodily harm if he ever hurt Sakura--physically or mentally.

Oh, and of course, the plushie and Yue. Kerberos being against the relationship from the instant he got wind of it, and Yue announcing that Sakura was their mistress and he would follow her lead unless her choices would cause her harm. That last was added with a distinctly pointed look at Shaolan. Kero had tried to convince the lunar guardian that 'the brat' *was* harmful, but Yue told him to shut up and go complain to Toya.

So Sakura and Shaolan became a couple. Things went fairly smoothly. Four about four months.

Until the two went out one night and Sakura failed to come home until the next morning. They both went to her father with trepidation.

"Gomen, Otousan! We fell asleep on the couch!"

"I swear upon my family's honor all we did was sleep--"

Which was about the part where Toya and Yuki entered.

"You did what?" Toya growled while their father just smiled.

"I'd thought that's what happened, so I called Tomoyo's home last night just to check and make sure you were all right. She tried to convince me you were with her, but she finally confessed that you and Shaolan had retired to Shaolan's home to watch movies. I trust you," he added with another warm smile. "Now, I just baked a cake and I need to go whip up the icing for it if we want to have some for dinner tonight. Yuki, Shaolan, I trust you'll be staying for dinner?"

And with that, their father had disappeared to within the kitchen. Maybe he knew Toya would be more strict then himself and that's why he left, but in either case, he was gone and oppressive silence remained in his wake.

Sakura studied the floor, feeling miserable despite her father saying it was okay. Shaolan would have like to have studied the floor, but Toya was forcing a staring match and Yuki was just smiling.

"Nothing happened."

"That's not what I just heard," Toya replied.

Shaolan sighed. "Honestly. All we did was watch some movies, and we ended up falling asleep."

"We fell asleep before the end of the movie," Sakura broke in feeling her brother's narrowed glare. "That was it! Not even a good-night-kiss!"

Toya's cheeks infused with color at the thought of his baby sister kissing anyone, but a hand on his arm quickly discharged the angry words that were ready to burst from him.

"A sleepover!" Yuki grinned. "Sounds like fun!" Then he turned to Toya. "You were going to play that new CD for me?"

And with that, Toya's attention was blessedly diverted, and Sakura and Shaolan breathed a sigh of relief. They turned to each other and after a smiled leaned their forehead together.

"That was close."

"H-hai."

"Let's go see if your dad need help with anything."

"Hai!"

Things went overly well for the coupled. With Yue quietly supporting the relationship, Toya was easily manipulated, and with Sakura's dad supporting the relationship, they got away with a lot of things normal couples shouldn't. Like sleepovers, visits to China, weekend get-aways, etc.

Shaolan also helped Sakura develop her magical skills. They would sit for hours practicing meditations, tarot readings with the cards, precognitions, locating sources of powers, and other skills Sakura thought interesting or Shaolan thought necessary. The result: everyday Sakura (and Shaolan, too) grew more and more stronger. More powerful.

Of course, being more powerful meant she felt things more strongly. She also felt more attuned to what was going on around her: others' feelings, if her family or friends were in danger, energy spots. And her favorite energy spot was Shaolan.

She could sense him even when both were at their respective homes; she could sense his emotions, sometimes she could even sense what he was doing. With a little bit more practice, Sakura could also attune her senses to someone else: Tomoyo, her brother, her father, Kero-chan, and even Yue or Yuki, if he would let her. Even strangers on the street could become an open book for her. Soon she surpassed even Shaolan's abilities.

She could see the Sakura cards in her mind. She could hear their voices, too. Sometimes they would talk in riddles, teasing her, and sometime in common speech. But she could always hear them, buzzing around in her head.

That was how she knew.

They were over at Tomoyo's house; the girls were going to have a sleep over and the boys would have to leave at ten. Someone had asked Sakura to read their fortunes and Tomoyo had pleaded silently, turning her large eye on Sakura, so of course she had agreed. Things were going well. The cards loved to play games and especially Flower, who kept turning up.

And then, the cards all stopped talking to Sakura. She could still hear their humming, in the back of her mind, but they weren't talking to her. That was when she read her brother's and Yuki's union. Instantly, the images poured into her mind and the cards all began talking at once, excited for their guardian's happiness.

Someone touched her shoulder, and, thankfully, she snapped out of the visions.

"Sakura-chan?"

She looked up, seeing immediately Tomoyo.

"There's something I need to go do. I'm sorry, Tomoyo-chan, please excuse me?"

"Of course. Please be careful."

"Thank you."

"Need a ride?" Shaolan asked from behind her, her bag already slung over his shoulder and a concerned look on his face. They said their goodbyes and then climbed onto his moped.

"I need to go home. Just a quick stop," she offered no other explanation, and he didn't say anything other than, "Okay."

Sakura smiled, snuggling closer to Shaolan in his bed. 'It is nice, sleeping with the person you love,' she thought.

"And just think," Shaolan murmured, still half-asleep. "This is without the sex..."

She laughed, burying her flushed face against his skin. After a moment of calming herself--a moment in which Shaolan's hands rubbing her back in a soothing manner had absolutely no effect at all; nope, none--she propped her chin up on his chest again, looking at the boy. "I hope they'll be happy now."

"Aa, I'm glad they finally got a clue, too." Shaolan's fingers played in her hair. "After all, it only took us a year to figure out we loved each other."

"Mm, but it's taken us five years to be together, too."

Shaolan parted. "That's only because I lived so far away..."

"Hai," Sakura murmured, nuzzling his shoulder and throat. "But five years, none-the-less."

"Well," he frowned, massaging her scalp. "It's all about happy endings, isn't it?"

But instead of agreeing, Sakura shook her head, leaning up to look down at him. "Iie. It's all about happy *beginnings*," she answered, inching lower to bring her lips within reach of his.

"Beginnings," he agreed, leaning up just enough to touch his lips to hers, before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her against him, kissing her fully.
