Chapter 8
“I need to speak to Yue.” Kero-chan stated. Immediately, Yukito's eyes glazed over and the moon guardian took his place.
“What is it, Cerberus?” Yue asked. Kero-chan did not answer. He was busy staring at the guardian's clothing.
“Is-is that blood?”
Yue inwardly cursed his inattention. “Yes, it is.” He said calmly, before a wave of moon energy washed over his body, reforming his clothes so they were clean. “What of it? What did you call me out for?”
“Is that Sakura's?”
“Did she have any injuries?” He asked coldly.
Kero-chan had the grace to look rather abashed. “I… so… never mind. I felt Clow's aura last night…”
His eyes widened. No! It couldn't be… Clow was dead!
“That is odd…” He frowned, trying to keep his emotions under control.
“I know. The cards suddenly stopped working… I'm worried, Yue.” He sighed. “That's all.”
Yue nodded, before Kero-chan flew off and he relinquished control to Yukito, who wondered why he was standing in the hallway of the Kinimoto residence.
Oh yes… he had come to return his chemistry book to Touya… he must have walked into the hall without thinking about it.
Odd…
A few days passed, while nothing happened. However, a few nights later, Sakura felt Clow's presence once again, so she called Syaoran and they went out to investigate. Yue and Cerberus came along to protect their new master, as they should…
Sakura noticed that Syaoran was still wearing that white robe with moon patterns it was quite nice-looking, although it made him look even paler than usual….
Suddenly, a waterspout, reminiscent of the Storm card, sucked Sakura inside. Yue and Cerberus immediately leapt to her rescue, however, two giant bubbles appeared out of nowhere and trapped the guardians as well.
Tomoyo nearly dropped her camera as Syaoran stared in shock. What was… what was going on?
Inside the bubbles, Cerberus, with his weakness to water had already passed out, and Yue looked rather strangled himself… true, guardians weren't human, but that did not mean they did not need to breathe!
He had to do something! But what could he do? His ofudas were weak, and without the Clow Cards…
Syaoran slammed his sword into the bubble surrounding Yue, but nothing happened. He didn't want Yue to die! Even if… even if he loved someone else, even Sakura, it didn't matter!
If only he had Sword… < Please, > He begged, using the moon connection his bond with Yue had given. He wasn't sure if it extended to the cards, but it was worth a try. < Sword, please! Lend me your aid…! >
And there was a sudden bright flash of green light, tinged with silver, and then his sword was suddenly lighter, and it felt different, but it didn't matter, and suddenly, the bubble was open and Yue gasped for breath, and then he rushed to the other bubble and repeated the process with Cerberus - even if he disliked the stuffed animal he didn't want him to die!
And then Sakura glowed, and if anyone had been watching they would have noticed the wings on her staff expand and a new magic circle form beneath her feet, and then Firey broke through the waterspout, and she was fine, and Tomoyo ran to her side to look after her, and he wobbled on unsteady legs before he collapsed.
Yue barely had time to catch Syaoran before he fell. The boy was so light… and his aura was humming with despair, but even so…
Clow's descendant had just saved his life.
Clow's descendant had just saved him again. First, after the Return card incident when he'd kept him alive on his moon magic, and now…
Amazing…
He felt guilty for the breaking of this promise. Did he… did he still love Syaoran? He hoped so, and yet… he had been so cruel to the boy…
The guardian beast coughed a few times and blinked his eyes open fuzzily. “Yue?”
“Check on Sakura-sama, please.”
Cerberus nodded and rushed to Sakura's side. She was fast asleep in Tomoyo's lap, one hand clutching her staff, another a card, but not a Clow Card, it was pink…
What on earth?
“How is she?” He asked anxiously.
Tomoyo smiled. “She's just asleep. I don't think she was injured.”
Phew…
But how could he have been so weak? Yes, that was definitely Clow's aura… no one else could have defeated him and Yue…
Speaking of Yue, he had the gaki in his arms and was checking on him.
“Hey Yue, what's wrong with him?”
“He is fast asleep as well. I'll take him home.”
Cerberus nodded. “Odd. Well, we can talk later.” He watched as Yue flew off, wondering…
Something felt off…
“That was quite unexpected…. I never expected my cute little descendant to be able to change the cards… he is stronger than I calculated…” A short figure on a lamppost murmured.
“Perhaps it's a one-time thing?”
“Perhaps, but this could prove quite troublesome…. Unless Fate has a plan I know not of.”
“I have no doubt she does, Master.” Another voice said, before all three shadowy figures vanished.
Both Syaoran and Sakura missed school the next day. Sakura slept until nearly three in the afternoon, Syaoran slightly later… he gasped as he checked his watch and calendar.
What had happened last night?
He dimly remembered Clow's aura and using his sword to free Yue and Cerberus, but… how had he gotten home?
Surely he hadn't walked home and then forgotten about it.
“You're awake.” A voice stated.
Syaoran froze in the doorway of his room. Yue, the Judge, the Moon Angel, Sakura's Guardian, was sitting at his kitchen table!
“Yue-san?” He stammered out. “What…”
“I brought you home last night. You fell asleep after that interesting display of magic. You've been sleeping since then.”
“But-… you stayed here and kept an eye on me?”
“Yes I did…”
“A-arigatou.” Syaoran blushed, red creeping up his neck and cheeks again. “Thank you very much…”
“Now then,” Yue said, as Syaoran made tea and tried to ignore looking at him. “Perhaps you can explain how this happened.”
He held out a green card.
