Chapter 14
“This is not your fight!”
“We have no choice.” Syaoran murmured, as he watched Lancelot and Arthur bicker from his window. Yue nodded.
“We must fight… to spare our lives…”
“I didn't want to kill them…”
“You didn't kill them. The ice will melt in a few months, but they haven't died.” The faintest smile. “Clow's cards are not meant to kill, although they have great destructive power.”
“I see…”
The Saxons were coming. Freeze waited, but he was not sure whether or not he ought to activate it again…
Firey, or Earthy, however, would kill them…
“I feel so tired, Yue…” He whispered. “I don't know why… this area is full of magic, and yet…”
“The moon is dark tonight.”
The moon is dark tonight… during the dark of the moon Yue would draw energy from him through their connection… that might explain it… even so…
“There's one more factor.” Yue said softly. “Your aura… it used to be green.”
“…Used to be?” He asked in confusion.
“Bring up your aura…”
So he did, and he gasped… the green had almost been completely replaced with a brilliant silver color.
“You see? Your magic is almost wholly of the moon now…. Surely you noticed the magic circle on the back of your `Xiao Lang cards'?”
“I did, but I never expected…” This could be a problem…
Whatever it was, they had to do something… his eyes closed as he thought. “So it's… my magic is completely moon-type now? There's no way to undo it?”
“Your cards contain mostly moon magic with a hint of earth, thus their green color…”
“How come Sakura doesn't have this problem?”
“Her magic is pure star magic…” He smiled at Syaoran. “Do not worry… I am in no danger of disappearing.”
Syaoran blushed. “How did you?”
“Your emotions are plainly written upon your face, Syaoran.” The guardian frowned. “But…. They are coming closer…”
“We must be ready then…”
He was wearing those white robes with the silver crescent moon designs… he smiled. “I think we ought to attack from a distance.”
“I understand, but isn't it risky what if our allies are caught in the path?”
True, that was important…
Very well then…
“Mirror, stay here, all right? We can't have anyone knowing what we're up to.”
The card winked at her master before she shifted into an exact illusory copy. Syaoran and Yue cloaked themselves in Shadow and flew outside to join the others.
It was windy on the battlefield, and there were arrows flying everywhere… shields were hastily called up, before they landed on a relatively un-crowded hill.
< Should we interfere? >
< I see no harm in doing so. You are having second thoughts now? >
Suddenly, Syaoran stiffened, before the Shot card activated, knocking out a Saxon who had been about to strike down a male Woad with long dark hair.
Yue looked at Syaoran in puzzlement.
< We were meant to be here, Yue. > Syaoran said grimly. < I just knew, that that was one of Clow-san's ancestors. >
Yue shuddered. < Point taken. >
The woad stared at Syaoran incomprehensible.
“Run.” Syaoran said, and the man immediately fled. Something told him to stay out of this battle… to stay alive…
He had a sudden glimpse of a man with dark hair…
Someone was going to die in this battle…. Not him, but how did he know? He wasn't supposed to have foretelling dreams, but then again, the cards had not been meant to split and duplicate either…
It was so confusing…
Yue's arrows were striking down barbarian blondes right and left, the magic simply pierced through their armor - or lack of it - easily…
“Where are those coming from?” Cerdic demanded, as he stared…. Then barely ducked a long slender silver arrow made of a material he could not identify.
There was no reply.
So the druid is fighting with us, Arthur deduced, upon seeing those odd arrows. Well, at least she was on their side… however, something in his mind warned that there were things beneath the surface…
She was dangerous in her own right…
Well, now was not the time to dwell on mysteries. He had to stay alive…
The battle as raging fiercely, but they were not losing - yet…
Something still seemed off, however…
Merlin was commanding his soldiers, but even so, he kept feeling something odd, almost…. Otherworldly, drawing nearer…
< Watch out! > Yue barely had time to take to the air before a man charged into the area where he had been a second later, panting, with drawn sword.
< I don't know how they found you, but… >
Yue nodded grimly. < My thanks. > Another wave of arrows swarmed into Saxon ranks… men clutched at their bleeding bodies in pain…
He was starting to feel sick… even with Shield's protection, even with Shadow hiding him, his head began to spin…. Why? Was it because these men were dying?
He wasn't' used to the battlefield…
Yue noticed as Syaoran suddenly crumpled to his feet, completely dazed. < Syaoran! > He flew over and hastily gathered the child up into his arms.
What was he to do now?
Unconscious, Shadow and Shield slipped away… several men looked hungrily at the moon guardian, drawing their weapons and advancing closer…
Yue did not spare them a glance as a shimmering dome went up around them. He could create his own shields, with the moon energy running through his veins…
Tristan died…. Dagonet fell…. Lancelot spared Guinevere…
Ad the chaos unfolded around them…
He had had enough of this. There was one quick way to end this battle, and ensure victory…. “Dark!” Instantly, darkness spread over the area…
He felt so tired… but he saw the green card flutter in front of him, and he knew that it had gone correctly…
And now, for the next card, “Light…”
As light spread across the battlefield, he could hear gasps from the men… many of the Saxons were fleeing, and there were others lying prone, covered with…. Well, they were definitely dead in any case.
Sand… he must have changed Sand while Dark had hidden the battlefield from view… and so sand had drowned them…
The earth itself…
He must have changed Earthy… that left only Change and Create, but those could wait until later. For now, the battle was over… it was time to honor the dead…
