Card Captor Sakura Fan Fiction ❯ In the Darkest Hour, There is Light ❯ Smiling ( Prologue )

[ A - All Readers ]

A/N: Konnichiwa, minna-san! Long time no see, eh? BTW… did you read any of my poems? Didja, didja, didja? I'm gonna post up more. Even though probably no one reviews, I'll be happy to know that a few other people will read my work. (People who can't talk to me. Flames are very easy for me to read, but if you get in my face, when you're actually in front of me…)

I'm also thinking of putting up some of my originals. Whaddya think?

Syaoran: You are sad. Extremely sad. You really think they're reading this? And how come you put me in this fic? And how come I'm the main character?

Otaku-hime: You will play the anguished and hopeless lover boy! ^_^ Lucky you!

Syaoran: *flips through rough copy of entire story* *snorts* This is pathetic! I'm a complete wimp! You put me in as some kind of lovesick idiot, when I'm nothing like that in real life-

Sakura: Ohayo, Syaoran!

Syaoran: O-ohayo, Sakura. *Turns red as Sakura smiles*

Eriole: *smiles that wonderful smile I happen to love* Touché, Otaku-hime.

Otaku-hime: Hmm…. Now, let's see. Touya couldn't make it, Tomoyo's at a designer's meeting, Sakura's busy making Syaoran blush, Syaoran's busy blushing, I won't give Eriole the job because I like him… ah! Suppi-chan!

Spinel Sun: What?

Otaku-hime: O.O Duh- Disclaimer time!

Spinel Sun: Why do I have to do the Disclaimer?

Otaku-hime: Because I bailed you out yesterday when Ruby Moon was looking for you.

Spinel Sun: All right, all right…

Otaku-hime: *hands him a sheet of paper* Here ya go, Suppi-chan! My new Disclaimer!

Spinel Sun: Okay. 'Otaku-hime does not own CCS, so if you wanna sue her, go and see CLAMP and they'll assure CCS does not belong to a Filipina on a beaten-up computer. None of the CCS characters belong to her either, except for Syaoran, so she can torture him in any way she wants.'

Syaoran: *blanches*

Otaku-hime: Who reads these horribly long author's notes anyway? And moreover, who believes them? As every author says… On with the ficcy!

Syaoran waited in front of the school, with Rian. Rian: one of the few people who had dared to look past the stoic expression and glaring amber eyes, to see the gentle warrior that Syaoran truly was. He was a friend- a true friend, not one that only saw the advantage in knowing the future leader of the Li Clan. Those people shrank in fear when Syaoran glared at them; Rian merely grinned cheerfully and continued to chatter on. They had been comrades, ever since they had been young- even before he came to Japan. The rain dripped, relentlessly, miserably, stubbornly, still insisting to make this day as dreary as possible. The rain just seemed to make everything more… what was the right word? More unreal- more out of touch with what was important.

He gazed all around him in distaste, seeming to ignore Rian who whistled cheerfully as he jotted something down in a notebook. All these people… People, milling about, every single one of them wrapped up in themselves. They had probably never met someone that had power over the elements, yet she was kind and thought of everyone but herself. She never wished harm for others, and there was never any envy in her. It was the most extraordinary thing that he had been granted the ultimate boon in his life, and he had met her. He had met her, yes, and she had changed him, for when such a person truly exists, miraculous things happen…

Like a warrior is finally struck down and defeated not by his enemy's sword, but by his ally's smile.

And here he was, stuck in Hong Kong, while she was in Tomoeda.

He remembered, the promise he had made…

"I don't care how long it takes, just- just come back someday." Her voice was pleading.

"I will," he said slowly, "I will."

She smiled at him then, and he could see her spirit shining through: beautiful, bright, and pure. She looked like an angel then, an angel with sakura blossoms in her waist-length auburn hair, wearing a pink gown, not made by an over-obsessed best friend, but made of sakura petals, and woven with spells the very heavens secured for their own messengers. He remembered, faintly, that Touya had once remarked on how she looked like thier mother with such long, soft hair.

But most of all, he remembered her eyes.

Her green eyes, falling somewhere between the two treasures of jade and emerald. Depths still unexplored seemed to shimmer faintly, teasing him and making him long to discover the even brighter beauty they held. They held so much compassion, and joy, and understanding, but most of all caring-

-For him.

Those eyes… they were the most beautiful shade of green he had ever seen before.

Had green truly been his favourite color before he met her?

"Hey! Xiao-lang!"

"W-what?" Syaoran came out of his reverie, then glared. "What do you want?"

His friend grinned. "Don't try that glare thingy, man. It's way too old. I've become immune to it, I'm not afraid of it. Was there ever another person that stood up to that dark look other than me?"

She smiled at him, simply, honestly, and kindly. "Thank you- for helping me. I wouldn't have been able to capture that Card without your help."

"You've done it again! Zoned out! Was there ever another person to stand up to you besides me?"

"Yes, there was. She was very brave." Sakura's sweet laughter seemed to ring merrily in his mind, and he couldn't seem to help but smile… And poor, poor, Rian couldn't help but stare. For it was the first time in a long while that he had seen Syaoran smile.

Otaku-hime: So, did you like it? Should I write more? Change more? Add old characters? Have Touya come across Syaoran in Hong Kong?

Syaoran: *whimper*

Otaku-hime: C&C appreciated! You know how much I love those reviews ^.^ Gomen ne, everyone… I know that was extremely short! I'll try to make it longer next time- if there is a next time.

Ja ne, and R&R!
