Chapter One

Twenty year old, Syaoran had to listen to the lecture give by his mother for the hundredth time. After all that she had said in the past years, Syaoran could probably guess her every word about him not being a proper king. He never would be if he weren't to be wedded with many wives. It was the same old thing. He blocked out her words, as he drifted off.
After what seemed like hours, Syaoran couldn't take it anymore.
“Fine! I'll marry! Happy now? Would you just stop?” Syaoran yelled desperately.
“All right then.” Yelan said calmly. “You are to marry Meilin first, and make her your queen. Right after that, you are to marry Kimi. We'll worry about your other wives later. It's just the start.”
Syaoran agreed without complaint. He may have to marry them, but that didn't mean he had to like them or give them any single attention.
“Within a year, I should be expecting a heir.”
Now that got to him. He couldn't help but burst out, “Weren't you made that father had twenty, thirty, or maybe even forty wives? Like you could sit around and not get jealous and start your own war! Can't the war between the wives of the kings be stopped already?”
“Young man, I won't put up with such attitude. We are only trying to do what would be best for you. You should be pleased. Every man in the right mind likes women. The more the better. Don't you agree? Here, how about this, after the fifth wife you marry, you get to choose your other wives, but approval must be confirmed first.” Yelan smiled as though it was such a great idea. She left in preparation of the wedding that would be coming within two months.
Syaoran yelled out and smashed his fist onto the table, rattling it, as a glass vase fell onto the floor in many pieces. The instant it fell, maids from every direction hurried to clean it up. He kicked them away, as they fell backwards. He was about to yell at them, but what use would that be.
He grunted and left. He still had work to do and it was also tradition that before the king was to marry, he must go outside the walls and see of the commoner's life so he could improve it as a king. The third king of the Li kingdom started it and ever since then, every king did the same. His father, grandfather, and ones before them all went out to see the lives of commoners for a month. He needed to prepare himself of who will make sure everything to run smoothly here within the castle. He also needed to arrange where the trip was to be.
Truth is told, he didn't mind getting out of the castle. He needed it. Well, here's a bright of the whole marriage thing. As soon as he becomes a proper king, his mother doesn't really have power over how he run the kingdom. You would have thought, in that case, his mother would never want him to marry. But being the queen and those lonely times, where the king ignored her, it made her wise and knows her role as well as anyone.
Ever since he was little, he was always within the castle, not a mile away from it. This would be his first time. In a way, he was looking forward to it. He didn't really know how the commoners lived.
On his walk to his workroom, he thought of the perfect place to go to. It wasn't far that far from the castle. Probably a three to four day travel. He had heard that it was an amazing place there and that almost everyone knows each other. It was also said that during their last war, two years ago, that town defended and won the battle against their rival all by themselves, without the help of the soldiers. It wasn't that he didn't care for the town; he cared for them all for it was a part of their kingdom. It was only that their troops were too far to get there. He had feared that that town would have landed in the enemy's hand, but it didn't. They fought it off, and one person who was truly extraordinary arranged it all. He sure would like to meet him. He could probably learn a lot on the ways of martial arts from him, even if he was already the best within his family. It never hurts to hear of someone else's opinion.
If he remembered correctly, that town was called `Xiao Ying Guang' and before the war, it was only called `Xiao Guang', the Ying was added to it in honor of the one that gave them courage to fight. The name fitted perfectly. Separately, each word meant a different thing, but together, it was hope and light. It was his father's favorite town out of all of them. He never knew why, for it was a small one, but he always longed to find out. Maybe it was meant for him to do so, now. Xiao Ying Guang was under the supervisor Eriol Li, his half-blood brother.
For the seat as king, there was many bloodshed, rivalry between the sons of the Li's. Some stuck together to team up and eliminate the princes. Some were guilty, while others were innocent, but was gone because of the rivalry. Among these, Eriol and Syaoran had become a sort of team. They hadn't really fought for the spot as king, but made sure that no one accuses them of anything. Maybe it was this act, that made the king choose Syaoran as the next one in throne. Maybe it was the act of carefree, no threats and reasonable behavior that got to where he was today. Truefully, it was just that they didn't care if they become the king.
He reached for one of the many reports he gets everyday. Among them, was from Eriol Hiiragizawa. He hates to admit it, but he missed him. It was boring here without people to be like you in wanting the fun back. But over the years, he lost his sense of fun. It was still there, all right, but it wasn't how it uses to be.
He opened the monthly feedback of Xiao Ying Guang. Eriol had take care of that own two years ago, right after the war. They saw potential of the people within there. It was the usually report of how everything was running smoothly. There food stocks were up to date and no major crimes had taken place. He did mention, however that people were coming together and making it better. No, not just those regular, `let's do or contribute', but they started their own school, teachers were volunteers and there was even a war school. It was all taken care of by the town's people there. They hadn't needed to do anything. It was amazing how that little town could be such a great one, one that couldn't be matched by most.
Syaoran smiled a bit, one of those rare ones. He knew right then, that he's going to Xiao Ying Guang wouldn't be wasteful. Maybe he would get something out of it that would help in such a huge way. He picked up a blank piece of paper and started to write his response. He thought for a moment of what to write, and within seconds his calligraphy brush moved against the paper, running smoothly.
A servant had came up and started to make the ink smoother for him, by using a certain stone. Another servant came up, handing him his tea.
After hours of sitting there, reviewing the reports, he got up and got his sword. He needed a time for himself. His sword was like none other, not just because he was the king. It was passed down from generations to generations. It was made of silver and gold. The smith was one of the best that ever existed. If one were to show his sword, it was a sign, in a way that the king was there himself.
His special martial arts practicing room was huge with wooden floors. He removed his shirt and got into his stand. He practiced like this everyday without missing a single minute. It was one of those things that he was especially proud of. His skills. Time flew as he slashed and stabbed.

In Xiao Ying Guang, the day was like none other. Today was the first day of the war school. Their teachers were the best of the town, and required nothing in return, only of that they would one day use their skills wisely and protect the town from future invaders. They were proud of their little town that they had started from a low, looked down upon, to a model for many. But even so, their chances of being the capital is next to none.
The door of the `War School' slide open. There were ten pupils within each class. Each was as eager as the next to learn and be able to show off their new skills. They were sitting on the floor, chatting away, when the instructor entered, they got up and bowed. They wanted to start a boy, girl war school. Many war schools were in the kingdom, but none were willing to accept girls. They wanted to change that, as girls were as important as the next.
Their instructor, in fact was a female. She goes by the name of Sakura. Her hair was as long, for it was lawful since forever that women kept their hair long and down until they were married. She had her hairs split into three parts and tied. One each side of her shoulder was some of her hair tied together with a red band. Her cloths were of comfortable, easily moveable cloths. Their waistband was wide and red. She was slim for her age, but not too slim to make you think that she starve herself.
She smiled to them as she entered, wearing only her socks. She bowed back to them.
“I'm Sakura Kinomoto. I'll be your instructor. I'm sure each and every one of you is very eager to learn. But before I teach you any of those, you most learn the ways and discipline. You will be learning of its history with someone else.” Sakura said kindly.
The class gave a soft groan and disappointment.
“I'll tell you a secret of mine. I'm not such a huge fan so studies either. I would rather get right down to business.”
“Then can't you teach us right away?” a girl with soft black hair, asked, with his little hand in the air, still waving around.
“I'm sorry, but I haven't gotten your name yet.”
“Jing Jing.” She said with a big smile.
“Jing Jing, I will be teaching you, but not of the sort that you hope just yet. I'll be teaching you how to fight in a real battle later on.” Sakura said apologizing.
“Miss Sakura, then if we learn to get the beginning over fast, would we be able to learn to fight in a real battle sooner?” asked an older boy of around of ten years.
“That's right. So work hard, and you'll get to do really soon!”
Whispers broke out and then all was silent. One of them raised their hand.
“Then can we start right now? So we can get it out of the way and really learn to fight like you?” He was an eager boy from the tone of his voice.
“Of course!”
With that, the lesson had started. From learning the basics of each weapons to learning how to hold them. It was interesting under the instructions of Sakura as sometimes she would give them little breaks and make them laugh. The three hours they had with each other today had flew by and some were disappointed that they had to leave so learn.
When it was time to go, each said their good-byes and thanks to Sakura as the waved and went, running out. They were impatient to tell their parents of what they had learned so far. One had held back and slowly walked up to Sakura.
She had dark brown hair and glowing eyes hard to miss. She looked up, tugging on Sakura's pants.
“Will I be able to fight like you one day and be able to defeat many men?” she asked innocently.
Sakura smiled and bend down.
“Of course you can!”
“But I'm a girl.” She whispered back.
“That doesn't change anything. You can be as good as any guy, if you believe and try hard! You'll never know, one day you could be the best of anyone!” Sakura said with a wink.
Instantly, a smiled brightens up on the small child's face. She ran out happily, in skips.
“Thank you!” She shouted back before leaving the room and closing the door.
Sakura smiled back, thinking how successful today was. She walked out to meet the other instructors. Among them were her brother, Touyo, his best friend, Yukito Tsukishiro, Kaho Mitzuki, Nakuru Akizuki, Rika Sasaki, Yamazaki Takashi, Naoko Yanagisawa, Chiharu Hihara, and last but not least, her best friend Tomoyo Daidoudi.
All of them she had known since forever and had became the best of friends with. They were all sitting together in a big room where all the instructors go to for breaks.
As Sakura entered, everyone turned to her and gave her a smile, before continuing what they were doing.
“What took you so long?” asked Tomoyo, blowing on her hot tea.
“Just a student that wanted to talk to me afterwards.” Sakura said easily, as she took a seat next to her.
“Was something the matter?” Tomoyo asked, concerned.
“No. No biggie. She just wanted to ask a few questions.” Sakura answered simply. “Boy, am I hungry. Got anything to eat?”
Tomoyo smiled. “Sorry Sakura, but you're not getting anything until you get into your new outfit I made you for your classes.”
Sakura groaned, while Chiharu laughed, and moved next to Sakura. “Why do you have to torture me like that?”
“You know, Tomoyo, you're a great designer, but why you haven't send any of your works out to sell? You could hit to the top!” asked Chiharu.
“It's just a private hobby I like to do whenever. With that much weight of needing designs all the time, it's not fun anymore.” Tomoyo said with a shrug.
They moved on from there talking about anything from boyfriends to social life. It was getting late, and they had decided to leave early so that they could stop by the market to pick up some things Tomoyo needed.
“Hey Tomoyo, I heard that Eriol Hiragisawa has a thing for you. He's hosting a party and was hoping that you would come.” Said Sakura.
“I'm not interested in him.” Tomoyo answered. They were reaching the market.
“Why not?”
“He doesn't seem like my type. He's of royal blood, what would he want to do with me, a peasant? He seems like the type of guy that goes for the unreachable.” Tomoyo pulled Sakura into a shop that sold cloths and sewing materials
“Really? He always seems like an easy going kind of guy.” Sakura said, checking out some of the cute buttons.
“That's what he wants you to think.” Tomoyo answered, removing a cherry blossom patterned cloth from the counter.
Sakura laughed. “At this rate, you'll never find anyone.”
“Don't talk about me now. Talk about you. When are you going to marry off? With a shout, every man would rush over and ask for your marriage.” Tomoyo teased.
“I don't think I want to marry.” Sakura answered seriously.
“What?” Tomoyo nearly shouted. “How can you not? You're too pretty to not marry.”
Sakura shrugged.
“Don't give me that!”
“I just don't find the whole case of marrying a huge deal. I like staying independent.” Sakura looked square in Tomoyo's eyes.
Tomoyo sighed. “There goes another one.”
Sakura laughed innocently, “What's that suppose to mean?”
“Oh nothing.”
Sakura was about to question her more, but Tomoyo beat her to it.
“You know, this cherry blossom pattern would make a great dress!” exclaimed Tomoyo.
Sakura sigh. “Tomoyo.”
“Which is what I'm going to use to make sure latest dress for the party that Eriol is holding next weekend!”
“Wait a minute. Didn't you say that you weren't interested in him? Then, how come you're keeping taps on him?” accused Sakura.
“Hey, just because I said that I wasn't interested in him, doesn't mean I don't keep up with the gossips around here. And whoever says that I'm keeping taps on him? Everyone knows!”
“They do?” asked a clueless Sakura.
“Hate to break it to you, but it's sort of everywhere!” Tomoyo answered. “Yesterday morning, while you were still snoozing, a messenger came inviting us to his party.”
Sakura giggled. “I guess I do sleep in a lot.”
Tomoyo laughed along side with her. “You bet. It's not a surprise that we got an invitation to attend the party, I mean after all you did help in the war two years back, big time!”
Sakura shook her head. “No. That was nothing. I'm sure others would have done the same if they had the chance to.”
“No they wouldn't. They were all frighten and wanted to leave, but you gave them hope.” Tomoyo argued back.
“Really, it was nothing. It was just words. I didn't do much.”
“Didn't do much? You did a lot! You saved this town! It wasn't just words. You showed them hope. And you fought alongside with them. You fought without harm and took down as many as ten men put together.”
Sakura shook her head again in disagreement. “Why is he holding a party anyways? It's not really like him to have a party all of a sudden without an occasion.”
“It's said that a close friend of his is coming and they haven't really seen each other in a long time. I guess he wanted to show his friend the best and give him a great welcome.” Tomoyo answered, going through the piles of cloth again.
“It's just a friend. He doesn't need to hold that big of a thing.”
“I heard that his friend is also part of the government's high rank.”
“That doesn't mean much. I wonder how he's like.” Sakura said out loud. “I guess the school that we just started would be down that day.”
“Is that all you can think about?” Tomoyo ask. “Now, let's get down to business. What will we be wearing to the party?”
“Who says I'm going?” Sakura asked, just to make things hard for her friend.
“You got to! What fun would it be without you?” Tomoyo begged. “You're like a celebrity yourself. I'm sure Eriol's friend would love to meet you. It'll probably mean a lot to them.”
Sakura laughed. “Come on down. You really want to say, that it would make Eriol look great in front of his friend.”
“No I don't!” Tomoyo said in defense. “I just mean that his friend would probably feel honored that you show up.”
“Don't make it should like I'm those hard types of people to get around to.” Sakura said.
“Hey, but you're acting like one now.”
Sakura playfully slapped Tomoyo on the arms. “I'm just playing. I'll come. I don't want to miss out you and Eriol's moment.”
“Did I ever mention, how evil you are?” Tomoyo asked with a grin.
“I got it all from you.” Sakura said with a smile playing on her face.
“Come on. Let's go over there. I don't think that the cherry blossom patterns are enough! I want something more.” Tomoyo linked arms around Sakura's as she dragged her deeper within the shop.

A week had pasted since the decision of going to Xiao Ying Guang and took the whole week to get everything in place while he was gone. He arranged everything and the big problems of that month would be waiting for him after he comes back.
Dawn had arrived and in a couple of hours, he would be taking off, heading towards Xiao Ying Guang. He only took a few people with him, since he didn't want to make a huge commotion about it, as well as the fact that he wanted to make sure that no one knows. Not just because of assassins, but if they knew, his whole plan would just go down the drain. What good is it, if you can't see the real deal?
He been up for quite a while, not because he was excited or anything, but because he was use to it by now. Sometimes he would get up learn so that he could get more time to train, today was no different, even if he was going on a trip.
He needed to work up a sweat. He would finally get a break from it all, a bit of rest in a way. He needed a change; even it was for a month. It would be a hell of a time with Eriol again. He couldn't help but smirk.
Syaoran walked to the corner of the room, and got a towel to wipe his sweat. He went out, cloths on again and started for his rooms to take one more thing. It was a green jade of a little wolf. He had always had it since the minute he was born. That was what he had been told. Somehow, he felt connected to it and it always remained with him. For some old reasons, Syaoran felt that it was more than it seemed to be. It was as though it knew everything about him, even those things that he hadn't know. He never part with it, and he wasn't about to start doing that either. He grabbed the green jade and walked out of his room to the front of the castle, waiting for the departure.
His sisters, mothers, most of the high ranks, and Meilin were there. For the past three days, Meilin had been annoying him about coming with him, but stopped as soon as Yelan said that she was needed here to learn the ways of her role. Boy, did she shut up after that, fast.
He looked out into the road that he would be going on for the next three days. With a last glances at his castle, he got into the carriage and it started off, nicely and slowly. This would definitely be an experience, something was telling him that.

“Tomoyo, can't you hurry up? I'm going to be late for my students!” Sakura groaned, as Tomoyo was taking the last of her measurements.
“That's it! I'm gone.” Sakura ran out of the room, having Tomoyo drop the measuring tape.
“Sakura! You just made me lose that measurement! Now I'll have to do it when you come back!” Tomoyo shouted after her.
“I don't care right now! I don't want them to keep on waiting!” Sakura shouted back. She ran down the halls until she reached the end. She slides the right door opened and everyone was already there, waiting for her.
“I'm sorry everyone, I got held up by my friend.” Sakura said, giving a small nod in response of their bows.
“Okay, let's start. We'll work with bows and arrows today.” Sakura started.
The girl that had once pulled Sakura back raised her hand.
“Yes Zhen Zhen?” Sakura asked.
“Are you going to the party that Eriol is holding this weekend?” she asked curious.
“Why, what makes you ask that?”
“Just that you're very pretty and I think that you would catch everyone's attention of you went.”
Sakura blushed. “Why thank you.”
In secret, she wondered if Tomoyo put her up to it. “I think I'll be going. Now anyways, back to class. Bows and arrows are used for many uses not only to kill. You can…” The class went on, as she showed them how to properly use it and it what position it would work best at.

“Hm…let's see. Sakura loves the color pink, but I think she wore it too much. Maybe another colors this time. I think green would work great; it certainly would bring out her eyes.” Tomoyo said to herself, thinking that no one was in the room, however she was truly mistaken.
“Green is a prefect color. My guest loves that color. I think he'll find a certain interest towards her.”
