Card Captor Sakura Fan Fiction ❯ Return of the forgotten ❯ Nightmare ( Chapter 9 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

9. Nightmare

Sakura was wandering through the darkness. It was cold, so cold. She shivered.

"Isn't anybody here?", she asked into the blackness around her. But she got no reply. Everything remained silent. She grew frightened. This place was frightening. So cold and dark. And so empty. Like another world. Another world existing in complete darkness.

"Kero-chan?", Sakura asked, hoping to hear the voice of her sun guardian calming her. But instead, silence was all that followed.

"Please,", she shouted, "If here's anybody who can hear me, please answer me!"

For a long while, the complete silence hung over her like a dark, heavy covering. But then, she felt a presence nearby. A flow of energy very well known to her.

"Yue?", she asked, feeling the cool breeze of moon magic, "Yue, are you here?"

The presence came nearer. And with it came a feeling that made Sakura grasp for air. Fear, hate and rage rushed through her and let her fall on her knees. She looked up into the darkness. There, a dim, silvery light coming near. It grew bigger and bigger until it revealed Yue's figure coming towards her. He looked at her with a gaze filled with disgust. The way he stared at her made a chill run down Sakura's spine.

"Yue.", she said, "Yue, please stop this! Please remember how happy we have been together. I miss you so much. Please, Yue-chan, I know that somewhere deep inside, you still love me. The necklace you are wearing is the best prove. Do you remember when I gave it to you, and why? I love you, Yue, please tell me that you still love me."

Yue looked at her, his eyes remaining hard and cold. "How stupid you are.", he said in a harsh voice, "To still believe I would love you. You, hah! And this,", he grabbed the silver necklace and removed it quickly from his neck, "You can have that useless thing back, here!". Yue moved his hand and let the necklace fall to the ground in front of Sakura. She was too shocked to move. She covered her mouth with her hands, tears coming up in her eyes.

"Yue.", she sobbed.

Yue was already disappearing into the darkness as he said: "The next time we meet, be sure that I will destroy you." With those words, he was gone. Sakura burst into tears and grabbed the necklace that laid on the floor. As she pressed it to her chest, she heard Yue's voice echoing in her mind:

"I will destroy you!"

"No, Yue!", she screamed. It took her a moment to realize that she was in her room, sitting upright in her bed, her face covered with sweat and her hands pressed against her body.

"Hey sweetheart,", Kero exclaimed as he floated towards her, "are you okay?"

"It was a dream.", Sakura said, "Just a dream. But it was so real." Then, she opened her fists and saw the necklace. It was really there, in her very own hands. "No.", she said, "This wasn't just a dream, this was a nightmare."

"What did you dream of?", Kero asked, "Yue?"

"Hai.", Sakura replied, "He told me he didn't love me and that he would destroy me the next time we meet. And he removed the necklace I gave him. He really doesn't love me anymore, Kero-chan. He hates me, he wants to kill me."

"Hold it, darling!", Kero said, "I am sure this is all that women's doing. What was her name again?"

"Vaine.", Sakura said dryly.

"Ah yes, Ms. Vaine.", Kero answered, "I am sure she kinda brainwashed him so that Yue thinks he loves her and hates you, although it is not true. I am sure, as soon as we find a way to fight her, we will also have the possibility to bring Yue back to normal."

"But what if he starts a fight against us?", Sakura asked, "I impossibly can hurt him."

"If there isn't another way, you will have no other choice than fight him.", Kero said, "You defeated him once, why not again?"

"This is different, Kero-chan.", Sakura replied, "The judgment was a totally different situation, and I had help from Mizuki-sensei back then."

"And now, you will have Eriol's help."

"I know, but nevertheless, I am just afraid of a fight against the one I love."

"If you want him to be as he was again, you must do what you have to. Even if that means hurting him or so, it is for his own good."

"Yes, maybe you are right, Kero-chan.", Sakura sighed, "But it will be hard nonetheless."

"Life isn't always easy."

"I know. I should better get some more sleep now, I don't want to fall asleep in school."

"That's how I like you. Sleep well."

"Arigato."

DRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGG!!!!!! Sakura opened an eye to the sound of her alarm clock, mumbled something, turned around and went back to sleep.

"Of course.", Kero said and floated over to her, "It is again my work to get her out of bed. Sakura! Get up or you will be late for school!"

"Hoeeeee!", Sakura screamed and jerked up in her bed, "When will I ever manage this?!". She quickly got herself ready for school, rushed down the stairs and into the kitchen. She grabbed a piece of toast and put on her roller blades and then headed out of the house.

"Still got a problem with the time, Sakura-chan?", she heard a voice behind her. And she knew that voice! She turned around and found herself facing Eriol.

"Eriol-kun!", she exclaimed and jumped towards him to give him a tight, warm hug.

"I am also very pleased to see you again.", he said, "Although I would wish it would be under more friendly circumstances."

Sakura let go off him and took a step back.

"Yes, I would also appreciate this.", she said sadly, "But it is good that you are here nonetheless."

"Yes.", Eriol replied, "But you should get to school now, I don't want you to get into trouble. We can talk later. I will wait for you after school in Penguin park."

"Ok, see you then.", Sakura said and continued her way to school.

After school, Sakura headed to the park. Eriol was sitting on a bench, smiling, his legs swinging back and forth.

"I really missed you, Eriol-kun.", she said as she sat down next to him, "Are Nakuru and Spinel also here?"

"No.", Eriol answered, "The are supposed to take care of the house while I am away."

"Too bad.", Sakura said, "I haven't seen them for so long."

"Next time, I will bring them with me.", Eriol replied.

"Oh yes, please!", Sakura exclaimed.

"But we should come to the point now, shouldn't we?"

"I suppose.", Sakura answered.

"I hope Vaine didn't cause any chaos in the meantime."

"Not yet. But…"

"But what?"

"Yue…"

"She draw him on her side, didn't she?"

"Hai..", Sakura sighed, "This is a nightmare. But I just don't wake up."

"Don't worry, Sakura-chan. We will find a way and everything will be alright."

"I hope so.", Sakura replied, "Speaking of nightmares, I had one last night. Yue was in it. It was terrible. He told me he didn't love me anymore and that he would destroy me the next time we meet. And he removed this." She took the necklace out of her pocket and held it up.

"Did you give it to him?", Eriol asked.

"Hai.", Sakura answered, "To show him how much I loved him. It looked so pretty on him. But now, he discarded it. He hates me, Eriol-kun! He really hates me!". Sakura began to shiver at those words.

"Shhh, Sakura-chan!", Eriol whispered and embraced her warmly, "Everything will be alright."

"I really, desperately hope so.", Sakura said.

"Just believe in it. There will be a way and you will get Yue back the way he was before."

"Are you sure?", Sakura asked.

"If the powers of your heart are strong, and remain strong, I am very sure."

"Arigato, Eriol-kun.", Sakura said, "Now we just need a plan how to do it."

"Hai.", Eriol replied, "And that will maybe be the hardest part of all."

AN: Ah, I love cliffhangers, although this is just a small one.
