Card Captor Sakura Fan Fiction ❯ She never knew the truth... ❯ Prologue/Reminiscence ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Authors Note: This is my first ever fanfic so please review the things that need improvements, it will hopefully show me how to be a better writer for the future (if I'm still around). This is merely the prologue but I do hope to develop a story here...I probably wont bother much unless a mass of people think I should (I'm kind of lazy so you cant expect weekly updates or anything) The events in my fic take place before the last scenes in the last volume of the manga Card Captor Sakura: Master of the Clow I've tweaked things to suit my story but basically it's a continuation of the manga and NOT the dubbed anime Cardcaptors ~Enjoy =^¬^=

I dedicate this fic to Alana Quinn, she's my shining star always brightening up my cold and lonesome nights <.<U (I had to put something cliché there damn it!)

Quotation indicates someone speaking like so - "speech"

Italics indicates someone thinking like so - thought speech/thinking

Prologue

The wind rustled through the trees gently causing them to whisper amongst themselves, scattering the birds that were twittering their early morning nonsense. From a window the flight was seen by a young girl, sitting on a chair chewing thoughtfully on the end of a pencil...

"Sakura?" came the young voice of what looked to be a stuffed bear, yet on closer inspection was actually a small bear like creature with wings. Startling the young girl out of her wandering thoughts, the creature immediately bombarded her with a barrage of questions in an attempt to cajole her into a happier state of mind.

"Hey kiddo, why the long face?" it asked "Your up early for a change, what's the big occasion?"

The girl sighed, put down the slightly mangled pencil and looked at the creature with the depth of her depression clearly visible on her face, slowly she turned her gaze back to the window where it had been for the past twenty minutes contemplating the events that had taken place that fateful summer two years ago.

~*~flashback~*~

"Syaoran why do you have to leave?"

"It's for the best...I don't want to be in the way any longer...after your last battle I'm surprised you'll even talk to me" came the reply, face downcast Li couldn't even look at Sakura in the eye

"But it wasn't your fault!" she exclaimed "It wasn't you...it was the magic causing you to act like you did!" now on the verge of breaking, Sakura tried one more time to convince Li to stay.

"Sakura..."

"Syaoran! You can't leave, it'll be too much for me to handle alone and I don't want to lose you..." she trailed off not sure whether she had said too much or should have told him any more.

Li looked up and saw that there was something that Sakura hadn't said...maybe it was what he hoped for... shaking these unbidden thoughts from him head he quickly turned away and uttered his last words.

"Sakura, I thank you dearly for your friendship... I won't forget it..."

"Wait, Syaoran!" quickly trying to catch up to Li who had already started walking away

---xXx---

Li knew this would happen and fearing those eyes, which would instantly change his mind he did the only thing he could, he ran. Running like the coward he was he slipped into a side street and jumped a low wall before slowing down to think of what he had just done.

She didn't need me around, I'm sure of it... and it's not as if she isn't powerful enough she could easily manage without me, he sighed inwardly Then why do I feel like such a fool...

He turned to the right and stepped into a familiar street, continuing to think about Sakura's reaction

She'll manage without me, after all her magic is stronger than mine and she has the guardians by her side. All I seemed to do was get in the way and distract her from the task at hand anyway! Arrgg, why can't I just leave it at that??! Why does it have to be so complicated.

Realising he managed to get all the way back home thinking about his dilemma the entire time he shook his head in frustration. He blew his tousled locks out of his eyes in a sharp exhale of breath and rested his head against the doorframe, slowly pulling himself upright he reached into his pocket for the keys and let himself in. Knowing he wasn't going to be here for much longer he quietly moved through the rooms and picked up any items that he would be taking with him.

Seems about time that I had left anyway, I was going to leave as soon as I found out Sakura had been the chosen Master of the cards...but then Hiiragizawa had to show up. He couldn't help but smile at that. Who knew he would have turned out to be Clow's reincarnated form, and worse still MY great ancestor...

Putting his thoughts on hold he meandered his way back to his room and flopped down on his bed causing his shirt to bunch uncomfortably around his shoulders. Groaning he sat up and contemplated getting changed out of his stiff shirt and formal trousers, he couldn't be bothered for once and instead rolling over he reached for the phone next to his bed and dialled.

"Good evening...may I speak with Ms. Li" he asked the unknown speaker

"Sure, may I ask whom is calling" came the response

"Could you tell her it's Li Syaoran, her son calling from Tomeada"

---xXx---

Tears streaming down her face Sakura found herself at Tomoyo's house long after Li had left, she couldn't remember when she had decided to go there...or how long it had been. But now she was here she knew she had to tell Tomoyo, she would understand and she would give her the best advice in her current situation. Taking a deep breath and plastering a smile to her face she walked up to the gate and pressed the intercom to speak.

"Um, hi is Tomoyo in?" she asked nervously

"Yes, may ask whom wishes to see her?" came the stiff reply, upon hearing this Sakura realised it was most probably just one of Tomoyo's female bodyguards.

"Kinomoto, Sakura speaking"

After a short pause the gates opened and Sakura muttered a quick thank you before rushing up to the house. Ringing the doorbell she quickly thought how to tell Tomoyo without upsetting her, as kind as Tomoyo was Sakura knew she wouldn't like Li's behaviour and she could do something that later on would come back to haunt her...

"Sakura!" Tomoyo startled her out of her pondering and quickly ushered her into the foyer, taking her friend by the hand she led her up to her own room. Passing the front room and then ascending on the mahogany stairwell they approached a slightly ajar door.

"You know you probably have the best timing ever Sakura, I was just going back through some of my video editing and was wondering if you wanted to keep some shots of you and Li from when first met him" sifting through shelves of tapes Tomoyo came across the one she was looking for scruffily marked `new kid' in what looked to be a jumbo marker. Tomoyo giggled at the memory of Kero rummaging through her videos when he was looking for the power shots of himself.

"Here it is..." taking the tape out of its cover she placed it in the VCR located towards the back of the room and hit the PLAY button whilst pulling back the cover of her entertainment system.

Sakura looked on at Tomoyo and thought of how to tell her what she needed to get off her chest but it seemed that Tomoyo wanted nothing more than to have her go through the video scraps. Seeing Tomoyo approach her she decided to try and get the truth out, clasping her friend's hand she pulled Tomoyo to sit with her and proceeded to tell her what happened.

"Tomoyo, I have to tell you something...but you have to promise not to get mad ok?" Sakura said carefully trying to avoid Tomoyo's over protective side

"What is it Sakura?" replied Tomoyo her dark violet eyes searching Sakura's jade orbs for answers

Sighing Sakura launched into a dialogue quickly trying to tell Tomoyo what had happened with Syaoran and how he was leaving to go back to Hong Kong without giving away her reasons for feeling so bad.

---xXx---

Sakura couldn't remember how much time had passed since she had told Tomoyo what happened, but knew that it must have been quite a while as Tomoyo had just left to ask her mother if Sakura could stay for the night as she was feeling tired and they wanted to spend some time together. Hearing footsteps approaching she quickly put a smile on her face, not wanting to worry Tomoyo any further.

"Ah, Sakura you're allowed to stay no problems!" she said with a grin walking back to where they had been chatting earlier

"Awww Tomoyo you know you didn't have to!" Sakura exclaimed feeling awful for imposing on her friend like this

"Don't be silly Sakura you know I love to have you stay" and with that she closed the discussion and went back to asking Sakura of what Li had said to her

"So he's going back to Hong Kong and not coming back this time?" she asked quietly, not daring to look Sakura in the eye lest she give away Li's secret

"Uh huh" came Sakura's reply as she meekly nodded her head

"So are you going to say goodbye" Tomoyo asked tentatively

"...I-I'm not sure" whispered Sakura
