Chapter 5

Three weeks had passed, and no Clow Cards had shown up yet. It was a nice break, but on the other hand, he felt kind of antsy. What to do?
He couldn't force the cards to appear…
Sighing, Syaoran noticed that Sakura had obtained the Shield Card, but that wasn't important to him. Shield was hers after all…
That was that!

They were going on a class trip in a few weeks. Syaoran wondered that if he shared a cabin, how hard it would be to string up an illusion spell to change in. The beach, too, so he'd have to wear boxers… and those wouldn't hide much. He definitely needed an illusion. Pulling out a handful of ofudas, he filled a bowl with water and placed it in front of his mirror. Five ofudas appeared.
“Please, spirit of the water dragon, hear my plea and hide me…” The ofudas flared with blue light, surrounding him with a shimmer of sparkles. Smiling at himself, Syaoran stood up. Well, that was fine…
He was soon to learn that planning ahead was a virtue. After all, the illusion needed two weeks to stabilize, and he had three.

Two days later, Syaoran woke up feeling decidedly *not* normal. A quick glance in the mirror confirmed his suspicions.
`He' had suddenly turned into a girl!
Syaoran studied her new body. Well, she was still a little girl, so she didn't have to worry about breasts getting in her way. It didn't make her any less sensitive though, she discovered during the morning shower.
“I wonder which card did this?”
There was no response but that was only to be expected.
“The real question is - how long will this last?” Syaoran hoped that the Change card would get bored soon. The sooner it wore off, the faster she could change back, right? She toweled herself dry and then put on her school uniform.
At school, no one noticed, proving that the illusion was stable enough. Either that or she didn't really look different as a girl, except for the fact that she had slightly longer hair. The unseen differences were there though. Yes, Syaoran really hoped it would wear off soon. Someone was having too much fun…
A burst of magic came from the happily humming card.

At lunch, Syaoran was eating by herself near the fence that separated the elementary school from the high school. Touya Kinimoto and Yukito happened to pass by. In Yukito's arms was a paper bag full of sandwiches.
“Oh Syaoran! You're eating all by yourself?” Yukito asked. “Do you want to come and eat with us?”
Syaoran blushed. “H-hai!”
Touya glared, but since Yukito had invited Syaoran, there wasn't really anything he could do about it. Why did he hate the brat anyways?
At first he had thought Syaoran had designs on his sister, but now… now the boy was just ignoring her, mostly?
Eh?
Touya took a closer look. Something felt… off.
He nearly choked on a bite of salad bread as he took a closer look. It couldn't be, could it?
The brat was actually a girl? Yes, that was magic - he guessed an illusion - around her. It must be wearing off now, for him to see the truth.
Well, that kicked the `Sakura's boyfriend' idea out the window. Last time he checked Sakura wasn't into that. Hmm.
Maybe he should be a bit nicer. It must be hard, pretending to be a boy. But why?
He shouldn't pry…

Syaoran smiled at Yukio between bites of a red bean paste filled bun, as Yukito smiled back sweetly.
Nah, Yukito didn't like the boy - er, girl. He just thought Syaoran was cute in the way he thought Sakura was cute.
Hm.
Touya resumed eating. He did wonder why she was pretending to be a boy though… was it a family thing?
Poor kid… ok, I feel a bit sorry for her.

After a silent lunch, Syaoran waved goodbye to Touya and Yukito. Oddly enough, Touya had been really quiet and hadn't yelled at him once! Amazing…
Was there a calm card? Or a Friend card?
Who knew?
Or…could the Change card still be hanging around? What else did it want to do? Life was full of guesses sometimes…

After school, Syaoran took out her sword and compass and went card hunting. However, two hours passed without incident. She was ready to give up and go home for a break when something appeared.
It looked like… a blue cat.
That was the change card? How… odd.
Well, okay then! Syaoran ran after the blue cat. Finally! Another card would be hers! She wouldn't lose!
The real change card snickered as she flew to Syaoran's apartment to wait for him. He fell for it…

Syaoran finally chased the kitten into an alleyway. “Return to your true form, Clow Card!” She commanded.
The cat blinked at him in puzzlement.
“Change card!” Syaoran commanded, calling it by name.
Still nothing…
The cat purred and began grooming itself. Syaoran twitched, before using the compass. The blue light shot off in a completely different direction.
“What? I just wasted half an hour chasing a fake Clow Card? I hope Kero-chan never finds out about this…” She stopped. Kero-chan? Not `stuffed animal?' The Change card was changing his mind too?!
He'd better catch it fast!

Syaoran was not too surprised when the card showed up in his apartment. After all, he was kind of used to it…
Everything seemed to appear in his room for some odd reason. No problem.
Change looked up as he entered.
“Had enough fun?” Syaoran asked.
The card giggled, before fading away. Syaoran sweatdropped. It had run away again… right? Right.
Checking, he saw he was still a girl…
It seemed this card would take longer to catch…
