Chapter 8
Sure enough, everything was back to normal. But then, two days before the class trip, a new teacher showed up in class…
Syaoran's senses prickled as she came inside. Magic. Power. Whatever he called it, it was there. It jangled on the edge of his nerves. He felt fidgety.
“Hello. My name is Mizuki-sensei…”
Sakura was on the verge of squealing out loud in front of him, from her body language. He had to warn her. What if she was the trap - or what if she was Yue?
Sakura would be in danger! Since she was his rival no longer, and more like a co-captor, since they each had a set, he didn't feel any enmity towards her any longer. Besides, Kero-chan wanted him to keep an eye on Sakura…
At recess, he found her and Tomoyo. Without preamble, he told her to be careful around Mizuki. Unfortunately, he had barely said that when Mizuki herself was behind him and suddenly there! He was jumpy, but he had delivered his message. It as up to Kero-chan to take care of Sakura now.
He would leave her alone now.
But then, on the class trip, he felt the aura of another Clow Card…
“Return?”
No.
“Erase?”
The card nodded.
“Well, it's not mine either…” Syaoran yawned. “I'm sure Sakura can take care of it.” A reassuring squeeze came from the monster, and he smiled. Back to bed then!
What to do now?
He was bored, but he was sharing a cabin with four other boys… they were all fast asleep though.
Syaoran released Dream to keep them occupied and then went outside. He needed time to think.
Syaoran was sitting alone on a large piece of driftwood when he heard footsteps behind him. Spinning around, he met Mizuki-sensei's eyes.
“So you're the second captor.”
“You!”
“Don't' worry. I know all about the Clow Cards.”
“How?” Syaoran readied himself to attack, sword waiting… at the same time, the tentacle card uncurled and got ready to charge.
Mizuki sensed his intent and held up her hands placating. “No, no! I don't want to stael them from you.”
“How do you know about the Clow Cards?”
“Clow Reed gave me a mission to find the first captor. She'll need my help to defeat Yue.”
“But I won't?”
“You won't.” She said. “You will not need my help for the Final Judgment.”
Syaoran nodded.
“And be careful, please. Clow wouldn't want you to break your heart.”
With those cryptic words, Mizuki left.
Syaoran blinked and shrugged. Whatever… he turned his mind to more pleasant pursuits as the beast stroked him to completion. Ah…
This was nice…
The next day, they went hiking in a cave. It was then that the Erase card showed up. Being erased was unpleasant for the few moments that it lasted, but he was Ok. However, when Sakura tried to give him the card, he fled.
He didn't want to deal with it.
I don't love Sakura!
Besides, I love Yukito. And even if he doesn't really love me, that dream was nice while it lasted…
He went back to bed and dreamed a dreamless sleep… at least it was dreamless until something appeared.
He was standing on Tokyo Tower, dressed in his normal card capturing green robes, sword on his back. Soft, white sparkling snow fell all around…
Looking up at the sky, he noticed a full moon…
Standing across from him was a shadowed figure. He caught a glimpse of long, sparkling white hair and wings… in spite of himself, his dream self blushed.
Blushed?? Yes, blushed. His dream self began walking towards the other. Wait! That didn't make any sense!
He couldn't use Fly, which was sakura's card! What was happening?
Was this one of the Clow cards he hadn't captured yet? In any case, he made it to the other side of the tower, and then…
Syaoran woke up, covered with sweat. A quick glance down; and he saw that it hadn't been a *bad* dream. A worried burst of energy came from the Tentacle card. Syaoran patted it gently, and then shook his head.
Not a bad dream.
Could it be a foretelling dream?
He knew that he had magic, otherwise he wouldn't be able to use/capture Clow cards as well as his Clan training, but…
Did he have foretelling magic? He didn't know. None of his family did…
Maybe it had something to do with being the Card Captor? He'd ask Sakura next time he saw her.
Yes, that was good…
Sakura walked out of the cabin the next day, yawning. She bumped into Syaoran right on the way out.
“Li-kun!”
“Kinimoto-san.”
“Um… good morning!”
Syaoran smiled. “Don't worry, Kinimoto-san. I'm not here to contradict your or anything. I just have a question.'
“O-okay!”
“Do you have forecasting dreams, Kinimoto-san? I mean about the Clow cards? Do you ever get those dreams?”
Sakura nodded, understanding. “Hai, the night before Fly appeared, I dreamed about it. That was how I found out it was hurt.”
“Oh.” Well, maybe then… was that winged figure? Was it actually a card? It was quite likely. He'd be careful around the tower then….
Yes, who knew what might jump out at him in the dark? He had to say that he actually liked most of the cards that he had captured. Then again, they were being nice, even if they were mischievous.
So there were… eleven cards left. He could do this! Yes, he would come up with a plan and he would *not* fail the Final Judgment!
That he swore…
