* Hogwarts *
Eriol had decided to let Ami sleep through the first half of her classes, which were fortunately Transfiguration and Care of Magical Creatures. Hagrid liked Ami's way with animals and was more interested in whether she would be okay, and it had been only too easy to talk Professor McGonnagle round, all he had to do was tell her that she had exhausted herself with her magical experiments and McGonnagle gave him a note to take to her teachers explaining that she was ill and to excuse her from that night's homework. Eriol checked on her at lunch time, but she was still fast asleep. Kai stuck close to Eriol, partly because he didn't know anyone else, but mostly because he didn't know his way around the school, which meant that when Eriol went to wake Ami for dinner, Kai tagged along. Eriol didn't mind though, it meant he could try to mess with his love life.
Ami awoke stiff and groggy, still feeling the magical drain from her healing. She dressed as quickly as she could manage while the two boys turned their backs, but gave up trying to put her shoes and socks on, allowing the boys to work on a foot each. Once she was completely dressed she grabbed onto Eriol's bed post and hauled herself up. Releasing the post, she stood shakily for a few seconds before collapsing into Kai's arms. His gazed at her weak body as she tried to stand again. Her head lifted and Kai found himself staring into her large, emerald eyes. His cold gaze warmed. He couldn't find it in his heart to be harsh to her, especially in this fragile state. He slid his hands down her arms to her tiny wrists before wrapping them around his neck. One of his strong arms snaked around her waist, bending slightly, his other arm grabbed her legs. Eriol led the way while Kai carried Ami to the Great Hall for dinner. Kai had been more worried about her wound last time he carried her to think about anything else, but now his mind decided to run away with him. His traitorous mind kept allowing thoughts about how beautiful those deep, green eyes were. Thinking about those lovely eyes, he suddenly saw Sakura's face in his mind. The crystal containing the cherry blossom was a warm weight against his chest. He couldn't help noticing that Ami looked remarkably like his Sakura, but she had black hair, not Sakura's brown, and her magic was all wrong. When Kai saw Sakura's magic, it was a brilliant pink, Ami's was a bright silver, with a pink tinge. For some reason though, her small body being so close to him sent the same plesent shivvers down his spine that Sakura did. Ami came to herself just as they were about to enter the Great Hall. "Put me down," she told Kai, "I can walk by myself you know." Kai reluctantly released her and watched her walk shakily, but steadily to the door and into the hall. Eriol smiled slightly at Kai's reluctance, and realised that the next two years were going to be far more fun then he would've dreamed possible.
Kai and Eriol followed Ami into the Great Hall, watching and worrying about her as she doggedly swayed towards the Griffindor table. She slowly sat down between Harry and Hermione while Kai and Eriol sat opposite her. She began to slowly pick at her food. Eriol was concerned, what if she was coming down with something? Harry, however, took her under his wing and finally forced her to eat at least half of her meal. When dinner was over, they stood, trading worried glances at each other as Ami tried to walk, while almost collapsing. An evil grin crossed Harry's face. Ami noticed the change in Harry's aura and spun to face him. "Oh, no you don't," she told him as he started to stride towards her, "don't you DARE!" When Harry had almost reached her, he bent slightly, catching her waist in one arm before throwing her over his shoulder. He straightened and strode between the house tables, Eriol and Kai trailing him, with Ami trying to wriggle from his grasp. Eriol noticed the cold glare Kai was giving Harry and couldn't help but laugh merrily at what he thought to be the best prank ever played. Ami fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Kai was in a foul mood for the rest of the night, especially when he caught sight of Harry, but he didn't know why. He was just about to go to sleep himself, when his eyes travelled over to Ami's sleeping form. His anger immediately subsided. Kai still didn't know why, but her soft presence comforted him in a way he hadn't felt in years. A way he hadn't felt since he last saw Sakura.
By Wednesday, Ami wasn't feeling as tired anymore, also, her apetite had returned. She celebrated by staying up with the boys. For Ami's sake, they decided not to spar, knowing she'd only feel bad for not being able to join them, and opted for chatting, most of which was various things they wish they could do to Snape and Malfoy. Ami eventually fell asleep on Eriol's shoulder, which erked Kai. Eriol felt Kai stiffen as he slid an arm around Ami's waist and carefully carrying her over to her bed.
By Friday evening, some of her strength had returned, so she spent the evening helping Neville, Dean and Seamus with their technique and aim while Eriol, Harry and Ron sparred against each other. Kai sat on his bed pretending to read while he stroked Hope and watched Ami coaxing and incouraging her three charges while she put them through their paces. The next morning, Kai left early. He'd finally learnt his way around Hogwarts, which meant he was finally free of Eriol. He took some breakfast and a book down towards the lake when he found a nice shady tree to read beneath.
Ami woke up feeling fantastic, most of her strength and even some of her magic coursed through her body. Looking outside, she saw what a perfect morning was waiting for her and quickly began to walk towards the lake. As she stepped out into the fresh air, she noticed Malfoy and his cronies making a bee-line for a small figure.
Kai was just about to turn a page, when a large shadow fell over him. He looked up to see Malfoy and a number of Slytherins blocking the sunlight. Noticing a presence of malice in the air, Kai immediately jumped to his feet, only to be grabbed from behind by two thick arms. "So you're the new member of Potter's gang?" asked Malfoy as Kai tried to twist out of his captor's hold, "lets show him what happens to Potter's friends!" Kai was jsut about to stamp on the instep of the person behind him when a fist collided forcefully with his stomach, then with his eye. He braced himself for another punch, but it never came. He opened his eyes to see a very pale group of Slytherins all staring at someone behind them. Unfortunately, the wall of Slytherins also blocked his view of who they were staring at. All of a sudden, Malfoy went flying out of nowhere to land at Kai's feet. The rest of the group, except for Malfoy, the guy who held Kai, and the one who had punched him fled, to reveal an extremely angry Ami. She held a small fireball in the palm of her right hand. "Don't make me have to throw this, Goyle," she told them, "you remember what happened last time, don't you?" In a heartbeat, Goyle ran for the saftey of the castle. She closed her fist around the flame, as it returned to her flesh. Before Ami could make a move towards Kai, Crabbe shifted his grip so that his arm now squeezed Kai's throat. Kai began to slump from lack of oxygen. He looked up to Ami with pleading eyes and realised she was smiling. Kai was shocked, he thought she was, dare he say it, his friend. He could feel himself turning blue when Crabbe screamed and realsed Kai. Kai dropped to the ground, but managed to look up just in time to see Crabbe dashing for Howgarts, clutching his bottom, while Shadow chased after him, occasionally lunging and landing a painful nip. Seizing Malfoy by his hair, she pulled him roughly to his feet. "Now," she told him calmly, "appologise." Malfoy muttered an appology before turning to Ami. "I'll get you one day," he told her, "you filfthy little mudblood." He wrenched out her her hold and started to run. Ami pivotted in a round-house kick, allowing her foot to collide powerfully with Malfoy's lower back, sending him flying once more.
Unfortunately, the fight had been more then her weak state could manage. She began to sway. Grabbing a hold of the tree, she turned, then using it to brace her back, she slid down to sit next to Kai. She felt him shuffle away from her. Turning to face him, she saw in his eyes exactly why. Reaching out she grabbed his hand. He pulled it away from her and was about to pick up his book and leave when he saw a single, glimmering tear fall down her cheek. Her eyes were closed, hoping that if she didn't see him walk away from her, she wouldn't feel the pain. "I didn't smile because I wanted to see you hurt," she whispered, "I smiled because I could see Shadow creaping up on him. You have to believe me," she pleaded, "I never wanted them to hurt you, I couldn't bare seeing them hurt you." With that the rest of her tears began to flow, as she hugged her knees tightly to her chest.
A rough hand cupped her cheek while another began wiping the tears from her face. Slowly her eyes opened, not truely believing what they were seeing. Ami thought that he'd left, but instead Kai was drying her eyes. Staring into her eyes, he saw nothing but truth stare back at him. He realised then and there, that while she would probably kick his butt when the sparred, she would never intentionally hurt him. "You're so beautiful," he told her, "you shouldn't hide behind tears." A deep blush crept over his face as he turned his gaze, realising what he'd just told her and wishing there was a way to take it back. A horrified gasp turned his attention back to her. She face was only inches from his, he was shocked to find, as she inspected his new black eye. She groaned in pity for him, wishing that she had the power to heal it for him. Storm chose that particular moment to flutter down to Ami, perching on her shoulder. He leaned his head up to her mouth and breathed out a cloud of silvery vapour. The mist entered her mouth, filing her lungs, sending Storm's magic coursing through her body. Her skin prickled as she felt it's flow. Storm slumped into her breast pocket as Shadow returned. Shadow then sent a large streak of lightning into Ami's flesh, creating a bond through which he could feed her his magic. Ami then rested her soft fingers on the edges of Kai's black eye, allowing the magic that pounded through her veins to flow into her fingertips and down into Kai. Kai closed his eyes while she healed his steadily blackening eye, but they snapped open as soon as he felt her beginning to lift his shirt. He watched in horror as she gently ran her fingers up his six-pack, pushing his shirt higher as she went, his heart thumping heavily as she did, until she revealed another large, black swelling on his chest.
He went to pull away from her, wincing in pain. She withdrew her fingers from the bruise, before bringing them back gently. "I think you might have a couple of broken ribs," she told him, "so this might sting a little." Ami thrust her magic deep into his body. Her power surging through him brought him into a world of extasy. He revelled in feeling her magic carress his being, even Sakura had never made him feel like this. Kai was brought sharply back to earth by the pain of his ribs snapping back into place. He dug his nails into the dirt, trying to ignore the pain. The pain went as quickly as it came, before butterfly wings carressed his flesh where the bruise had been. Butterfly wings? Kai looked down and realised that the 'butterfly wings' had been Ami's lips. Shadow withdrew his connection as Ami rested her head on Kai's shoulder, now well and truely pooped. Kai's hand cupped her cheek and tilted it so he could gaze into her eyes once more. "That just gave a whole new meaning to the term 'kiss it better'," he whispered, "but I'm afraid I have one mor ething that hurts." She looked at him inquiringly. Kai pointed to his lips before closing his eyes. A soft, wet tongue licked his lips, opening his eyes, he was disgusted to find Shadow's tongue was doing the licking while Ami giggled helplessly.
Kai finally managed to push the wolf awat from him before turning to smile evily at Ami. She began to back away, but he pinned her to the ground with his body, his hands then began to tickle her as she screamed with laughter. "Stop," she cried, "stop, please, I'm begging you." He stopped the tickling and regarded her for a moment, "but this is way more fun." His fingers began their torture again. Ami laughed so hard she thought her sides were going to split, but just when she thought she couldn't take anymore, he rolled off her, half-laughing, half-crying out in disgust. Shadow had decided to join the fray by licking Kai's cheeks and pressing his cold, wet nose into Kai's ears. "Don't tell me you're ticklish too," Ami whispered into the ear Shadow wasn't licking, "now THIS is going to be fun." Ami's fingers now patrolled Kai's chest and stomach, tickling every part of him. "NO," he cried, "please, stop..Can't take much more." Ami finally stopped and pushed Shadow off so Kai could sit up.
Kai propped himself back up against the tree and picked his book back up. "What are you reading?" Ami asked, leaning her head on his shoulder. Kai showed her the front cover, but the title was written in chinese. "It's just a book on chinese magic," he told her. Ami sighed, she wouldn't be able to read a single word, Syaoran had been going to teach her to read and write chinese, but he was called back home before he got the chance to, so she just closed her eyes and had fallen asleep within seconds.
The setting sun eventually began to make it hard for Kai to continue reading, so he gave up trying and decided to wake Ami. Kai was about to get up to go inside when Ami pulled him back down. "Stay," she whispered, "stay and watch the sunset with me." Kai back down beside her. Ami began to rub her arms. Kai rolled his eyes, she's cold but she won't go inside? Girls are crazy! He then realised the opportunity it presented for him and slid an arm around her waist, pullin gher close to him. She accapted his invitation gladly, and Kai soon found her face buried between his neck and shoulder. Kai gingerly lifted the now-fast-asleep girl into his arms and carried her back up to the boys' dormitory, stoppping at the kitchen on the way for two house elves to follow them with two tray-loads of food and drink. High up in the branches of the tree, Eriol sat watching, "Oh yes," he whispered to himself, "this is going to be a lot of fun."
